In part two of this Dark and Dirty Tale serial from New York Times and USA best-selling author Kristin Miller, Red has two hot alphas in pursuit. But which one should she choose?
Lukas, the Alpha of the Arcana wolf pack, has chosen to seduce me in his private chamber before I join his pack and declare a mate. But Lukas doesn’t intend to rush things. A tantalizing game of cat and mouse uncovers my dark desires, and no matter how I try to resist, I’m lost in him.
Although the sex is so good I forget my own name, I can’t deny there’s still something missing…Reaper, the Omega’s eldest grandson.
He swept me off my feet before meeting Lukas, and I can’t get him out of my mind. And now that Lukas has taken me, Reaper is more protective than ever. I'm torn, but I have to choose—the one who has captured my heart or the one who possesses my body. And there is more than passion at stake—lives hang in the balance.
Get ready for scorching hot Alphas, a spitfire heroine, and a breathless cliffhanger ending.
The Dark and Dirty tale series is best enjoyed in this reading order.
Book #1 Desiring Red Book #2 Dominating Red Book#3 Dangerously Red – Coming July 17th.
New York Times and USA Today best-selling author Kristin Miller writes sweet and sassy contemporary romance, romantic suspense, and paranormal romance of all varieties. Kristin has degrees in psychology, English, and education, and taught high school and middle school English before crossing over to a career in writing. She lives in Northern California with her alpha male husband and their two children. She loves chocolate way more than she should and the gym less. You can usually find her in the corner of a coffee shop, laptop in front of her and mocha in hand, using the guests around her as fuel for her next book.
Dominating Red is book two in the series, A Dark And Dirty Tale, by Kristin Miller. This book was generously provided to me in exchange for an honest review by NetGalley, Entangled Publishing, and by Kristin Miller.
Holy Cow I just can’t get enough of this series. This book started out directly where the previous book left off. Ivy has been chosen by Lukas, the alpha, to be with him before the mate choosing ceremony. So much mystery surrounds the alpha and his dark ways but Ivy is captivated by him. He shows her pleasure beyond her wildest imagination. Their time together is over before she knew it and she is forever changed.
A part of her is still possessed by Reaper, though, The Omega’s other grandson. She knows he doesn’t want her to choose him at the ceremony. He isn’t staying with the pack. He is driven to continue his search for his parent’s murderers after he finishes his business there. If Ivy chooses the alpha as her mate, will her heart ever be fully rid of Reaper? Can she let him go?
The choosing ceremony is upon her and Ivy must choose. But the chain of events doesn’t go as planned. Also, Reaper makes some disturbing discoveries while searching for the answers that the Omega summoned him to investigate.
Of course, since this is a serial, it leaves off at the worst possible moment. Kristin Miller, you are making me crazy. I am loving this series and can’t wait for the next installment.
So this second instalment of the Dark and Dirty series focuses on Ivy and the pack alpha Lukas. He has chosen her out of all the new initiates and as much as she has started to develop feelings for Reaper she's also very attracted to Lukas. Lukas is very dominating and he knows exactly what he wants from Ivy, he plays her body like a master but no matter how hot the sex is she still finds herself thinking of Reaper. As the mating ceremony draws ever closer Ivy knows she must make a decision but will she go with her head or her heart.
I hate to say it but this is where the series started going downhill for me. I still don't think the world makes sense, it seems totally stupid that the new initiates to the pack have to choose their life mate on at their very first ceremony, even in Ivy's case where she has only met two of the men in the pack. How is she supposed to decide something so important when she doesn't know what all her options are? Why is it only the women who get to choose their mate? Why don't the men (apart from Lukas) get a say in the matter? For that matter why does Lukas get to pick any woman he wants? I know he's the alpha but they keep saying that the omega is actually the one who is in charge so why would she let him treat pack women like that? I'm probably overthinking things considering this series is only around 150 pages in total (so it's pretty much a novella split into three parts!) but it bugs me when things don't make sense!
I didn't like Lukas from the beginning, he comes across as selfish and entitled, he doesn't really care what is best for Ivy only about what he wants and he pretty much warns her that selecting anyone else as a mate is out of the question because it would supposedly make him look bad. Even that doesn't make sense since he has his pick of women every year and since he's not mated already they were all obviously allowed to choose a different partner at their ceremonies! The sex scenes between Lukas and Ivy just didn't do it for me, she was willing enough once they got started but I kept thinking about the fact that she wasn't allowed to say no to him even if she wanted to and I thought there was a far better connection between her and Reaper in part one.
There is a bit of a plot running through the background regarding stolen pack money and someone trying to undermine the omega but it was so obvious who was behind it that it didn't even feel like a mystery. I did go on to read part three purely because I wanted to see who Ivy ended up with but it didn't really get any better and I can't say that I'd particularly recommend the series unfortunately, especially when you consider how expensive it is thanks to the serialised format!

Initial Thoughts: I may or may not get around to reading this one. I didn't realise when I requested it that it was the 2nd part in a 3 part serial. After checking the prices for the other instalments I'm not impressed that you have to spend £1.49 per section when they're all only around 50 pages long! That works out very expensive for a 150 page novel compared to thousands of other ebooks I could be spending my money on.
Sometimes I think publishers only invented serialised novels to rip readers off and I can't for the life of me understand why they're so popular.
Update: Kristin Miller has kindly offered to send me a copy of part 1 so I will go ahead and read this serial & I'll write a proper review ASAP.
I received an eARC, from NetGalley and the publisher, in exchange for an honest review. 3.5 Stars 'Dominating Red' by Kristin Miller is Part Two in the "A Dark and Dirty Tale" series. This is also another Novella and is about 60 pages. This also picks up where Part One left off with Lukas, Reaper and Ivy (Red). Ivy is being taken to Lukas room before the finial ceremony where Ivy has to choose a mate. Ivy is still reeling from her feelings for Reaper and their hot encounter when she finds herself in Lukas room. Ivy is just as attracted to Lukas as she is Reaper but she keeps thinking of Reaper. Time is getting away from her and she just has a short time to decide who she will pick to be her mate. I love this story and can't wait for the next installment to find out what happens next!
Dominating Red starts off right where Desiring Red leaves off and holy hell the hotness level has increased. Lukas and Ivy, holy hell, these two are smoking hot. Add in the tension with Reaper and Ivy and I am surprised my kindle didn’t ignite into flames. I want Ivy with Lukas but I want her with Reaper as well, hell I want her with both of them at the same time. (Ms. Miller do this book whore a solid and have that happen please, if not it’s okay but I want that scenario so so bad) I love how even though these are short novellas that they are not lacking at all. They are sexy, they have drama, they are quick but satisfying reads that you can’t help but want more of.
This is the second novella in this series - and I've posted my review for the first one today, too. As I said in that one, I’ve read and thoroughly enjoyed books by this author in the past, so when I was contacted and given the opportunity to read and honestly review this, I jumped at the opportunity. Anyone who has followed my reviews for long will know that I don’t choose to read books which are generally classified as erotica - which this novella is. However, there is a solid plot structure in this as well as some hot and steamy scenes making it an easy, quick read.
The heroine for the continuing story, Ivy Douglas, tells many of the events as she participates in the January Moon festival during which she is supposed to choose her mate for life. She has a very difficult problem, however, in that she has only just met two strong Alphas both of whom she is attracted to but for different reasons. With many hot and steamy scenes this definitely is erotica, but the story continues as Ivy tries to decide what to do. Get ready for when she meets the Omega for advice, too. As I said before, what on earth is the girl to do? Should she choose Reaper or Lukas - or let the Omega choose for her? Decisions, decisions, decisions!
This is a great sequel, another hot, paranormal romance with two powerful Alphas still vying for Ivy’s attention but will she be won by either of them - or someone else? I’ll warn you it ends on a brilliant cliff hanger to tempt you to read the sequel as soon as you can (and not the same day in my case as it isn't yet available!)
Thanks to the author, publishers and NetGalley, too, for letting me read this in exchange for my honest review.
Dominating Red (After Dark and Dirty Tale) part two of the serial picks up right where the first installment stops. Now, the reader has the chance to experience Lukas, the Arcana pack leader. The possessive Lukas is nothing like his first born cousin Reaper. Where Reaper is all Insta-passion with our curvy heroine (Ivy), Lukas is calculated and controlled. How will dear Ivy ever choose between the two?
Sometimes, when a story has two likable male leads it's hard to figure out who to cheer for. Do you cheer for the dark and kind of broody former alpha (Reaper) with his tall built frame? Or do you cheer for leaner Lukas who is equally impressive? Lastly, as the reader do you just throw your hands up and say “who cares” because you want to know what happens next? Honestly, I just want to know what happens next.
Love Ms. Miller’s writing style and I've enjoyed the first two installments of this serial. Though the page count is short, I always enjoy a retelling of a classic fairytale. I wish there was more pack interaction (just me wanting the installments to last a little longer) but the author does a great job focusing on the main characters.
Things are really heating up between Lukas, Ivy, and Reaper. These men are so different how will Ivy choose? Can't she keep both???? Ugghh anther crazy cliffhanger again, I need to know what Ivy is going to do so I am jumping right into Dangerously Red.
Where we left off was Ivy getting hooded by guards, Reaper sneaks out from Ivy's room just beforehand and Lukas making a decision of which Pre-shifer female wolf he would like to stake claims on.
It's no secret that Ivy isn't used to having two hot alpha males, but how does she handle the fact that her heart wants both?
For the second "act" we see more of Lukas side, BOY!!! he's got bad boy attitude all over him. He's also very possessive but what he doesn't like is that he can't claim the pre-shifter of his choice because it has to be her choice. But what really drove him over the edge is that the sweet pre-shifter that he has his eyes on, someone else has eyes for too.
For the most part of second act we see more into Lukas side however I get a sense that he's hiding more than he's sharing to the omega. Reaper is still feeling like he doesn't deserve to have a mate, but he can't deny the instant chemistry he has with IVY and now he has to worry about his cousin taking IVY.
Can Ivy chose?
While Dominating Red really focus on exploring and learning about Lukas side I'm a definitely a Reaper fan, I think it's because he showcases emotions although he doesn't want to show it but also he's not claiming anything of his.
I give this four Cat Paws, I'm sorry I'm just not clicking with Lukas! There's just something about him that rubs me the wrong way.
Book 2 in "A Dark and Dirty Tale" by Kristin Miller.
We pick up were the first book left off with Red being chosen my Lukas the Alpha to spend time with him before the choosing ceremony. Being tied up and blind folded for him is all telling in the time they will spend together. As she waits for Lukas to enter the room, Red's mind keeps thinking of Reaper.
Both men are alpha and she has had the pleasure of experiencing both men but she has a choice to make. A choice that is tearing her up inside. When confronted, Red panics and asks the Omega's advice. The answer is not what she wants to hear yet takes into consideration. After all she has to do what's right. Right? You just have to read to get the answers. I will say that the ending will have you howling in frustration knowing that this is a major cliff hanger. But don't fear, the next book is coming out very soon and we will have our answers.
I love these paranormal romance and a quick, short read but yes,.... I also wish they were put into one book instead of very short installments. Otherwise, the author did a wonderful job of writing a very interesting take on what I would consider an adult version of Little Red Riding Hood. But with two very sexy wolves ;)
Someone is trying to overthrow the Omega and since Lukas, the Alpha and her second grandson is busy with the January's Wolf Moon ceremony she calls in Reaper, her eldest grandson and former Alpha of the Arcana Wolf pack, to assist on the matter. Matters of the heart and politics do not mix well. Finding out who is after the Omega is already a sensitive task. And it doesn't help that Lukas and Reaper both want Ivy.
Ivy has the toughest job. She knows Reaper is her soul mate but he does not want a mate because avenging his parents' death is his priority and he doesn't want to endanger the life of his mate. As for Lukas, her desire for him burns bright but whether she chooses him or not she will still lose Reaper. The third option is letting the Omega choose a mate for her, somebody that she has never met and does not know. Decisions! Decisions!
Quick little read but ends on a cliffhanger. I missed book one in this series but the story still came together without it. I will definitely be checking out the next book.
Alright so Ivy is constantly going between two males and fucking them both… like with minutes apart. How is that not a whorish behaviour? And how does Reaper still want to be with her after Lukas has fucked her? (How did he let her go in the first place is a better question but we’ll pass that) and i would have been pissed too if i were Lukas because its like she cheated on him, before and after they have been together even though she owes him no loyalty. This is just fucked up stuff and too much hoeing and cheating adjacent for my tastes but the books are 4 chapters long so i really need to finish this shit and see how this fucked up storyline finishes.
I don’t want reaper or lukas (nor ivy for that matter) but id choose lukas tbh. The slow burn and dominance and the ‘goliath dick’ (yes i quoted that) sounds like the better deal. And i bet he wouldnt continually say he wont choose me as a mate and go to Europe but continue giving me mix signals by being angry whenever another prospect pops up.

The second book picks up where the first book ended. This dark and passionate tale of will they, won't they, got more thrilling and exciting as the story unfolds. I liked how this story could go in several different ways, it all comes down to the main character and who she decides to end up with. Dominating Red is one of the most consuming books that I have read in a while. I am not sure if it was the complex characters which were so intriguing to read or the story and the plot itself which grips you from start to finish. When Ivy is taken to choose her mate, she knows she must be with Lukas but there is just something so dark mysterious about Reaper that her heart and head are torn and she is stuck deciding which man is going to be her mate for life. I truly can’t wait to read the last part of this amazingly suspenseful book.
I absolutely loved this whole novella trio from Kristin Miller! It was a real treat. I've been a huge fan of Kristin Miller's for a long while, and this one was definitely her steamiest yet. I liked the characters, and while I wanted a little more from the plot, I overall thought it was a really great read. I read part one, then moved instantly on to part two, and finished off with part 3, needing to just devour the entire story!

The time for Ivy to choose her mate is only a few hours away. She is still undecided as to what her heart wants. Reaper has yet to return from hunting his parents killer and Lukas has Ivy tied up in knots figuratively and literally. Who will she choose? Will it be the right one?
As Dominating Red is the second book in the Dark and Dirty series and takes off where book 1, Desiring Red left off, I recommend reading book 1 first. That way you will get the full story and understand the characters better. Ivy is drawn to the allure of Lukas' mastery of her but Reaper calls to her soul. Lukas and Reaper are both alpha types who desire Ivy. Kristen Miller always delivers bold fully developed characters that hold your interest. Pair that with a well written and though out plot and you have one great read. My only problem is that the story was so short and left me wanting more. I can hardly wait to read book three Dangerously Red to come out July 18th. My rating is 5 out of 5 stars.
Ivy Douglas still has only a few hours to choose a mate, but it seems Lukas Black, the current Alpha might have made that choice easier. Ivy feels Reaper is out of the picture while he’s still searching for his parents’ murderer. After the initial encounter with Lukas, Ivy is literally all tied up and waiting for what’s coming next…
DOMINATING RED is book two of the Dark and Dirty Tale series, and while I’m not sure if it can be read as a standalone, I would encourage readers to try anyway because it’s worth it. Ms. Miller’s writing is hypnotic when it comes to Lukas, who appears at the same time a tad frightening but oh so mesmerising and seductive. She made me experience what Ivy was feeling while she was tied up and blindfolded as no other writer had managed before. Told in alternate points of views, Lukas’ is riveting and simply fabulous. Ms. Miller made DOMINATING RED a most captivating read, as the author has woven erotica, pack politics, and fascinating characters in a cohesive whole, and there are quite a few chuckles along the way as well. It’s no secret that there is a cliffhanger, and what a cliffhanger it is! Another fabulous book by Kristin Miller!
I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
In installment #2 Ivy is taken before Lukas as he has chosen her to pleasure him before she choses a mate. This is his right as Pack Alpha. No matter where her heart or head lie, she must submit to the Alpha’s will in this. We also have the opportunity to learn more of Lukas, the Alpha. What Ivy doesn’t expect is to be swept up by the Alpha in his “cat and mouse game”.
Now Ivy must choose a mate, choosing between Reaper and Lukas. The two men who have touched her body; however, only one has touched her heart. But its not just about who her heart wants, its also about what is best for the Pack. The Pack that will now be her home for the rest of her life.
We finally get some answers to the dilemma that was posed to Reaper in the first installment. But what do the answers we find mean?
I got this book from net gallery for an honest review.
I was really looking forward to reading this book but was left quite disappointed.
It's a very quick read, ending on a cliffhanger. However, everything felt rushed and too fast paced.
Ivy needs to join the wolf pack and she needs to choose her mate. I didn't realise that this was the second book and that reading the first would be a prequiste therefore, I felt somewhat lost as to what was going on.
The fast paced nature of the book made it incredibly difficult for me to connect to the characters. My review reflects on my own personal taste therefore, please don't let it deter you from reading this book, because I'm sure many would enjoy it.
This is Book in the "A Dark and Dirty Tale" Series and it starts exactly where the first one ended, although to have answers to what will finally happen we will need to wait for Book 3.
The love triangle between Lukas, Ivy and Reaper in this book is even hotter than in Book 1. Ivy's feelings are mixed, she feels really confused. She has feelings for both men and she knows she needs to make a decision that will change her lie forever. There is some suspense about the killer of Reaper's parents and some grey area where Lukas's dealings with money are concerned.
The book is hot and the sex scenes are scorching hot!
It ends in a killing cliffhanger! I cannot wait for Book 3!
This one really felt like a filler--the story moves ahead a bit from where we're left in the first book (Desiring Red) but you know nothing's going to be resolved until the third (Dangerously Red).
So...it's kind of story limbo. It's probably a good idea to wait to read this one until you know book three is close at hand, so you can (hopefully!) enjoy finding out how it all ends.
I think I read this in about 30 minutes.. maybe less. This is one of those series that you read in a short sitting and leaves you with a cliffhanger. More than likely it will leave you waiting for a while too for the next book in the series. These are okay, but not everyone's cup of tea. Alpha males galore.. one beautiful woman between the two...scandal somewhere in the pack. Fast read...wouldn't mind reading the series if it is on kindle unlimited. I just can't see myself spending even one dollar on something I will read for 20 minutes. I need more..more ..more!
I received this ARC from the publisher via Net Galley fur my honest review.

So here we are with Dominating Red by Kristin Miller, Book 2 of A Dark and Dirty Tale, and holy hawtness ya’ll!!!!!! This lil shortie is burning up the pages/e-readers, as it may be. Already a heated series, this newest installment has amp’d things up a notch or two and it’s smoking! Jumping right back in where the prior story left off, we are pulled into the thick of things between Ivy and her alphas, Reaper and Lukas. Who will she choose? Dilemmas, dilemmas, dilemmas. This is a super short (50'ish pages), fast-paced erotic read that ends with a cliffhanger. Not for the fainthearted...
The story picks up were Desiring Red left off and the writing is just as good. Ivy has her one on one time with Lukas and is no closer to being able to make the decision about who will be her future mate. We also get to see a little more regarding Reaper's investigation into who is trying to overthrow the Omega and stealing from the pack. I feel that she has more chemistry with Reaper than with Lukas but we will have to wait until the next story to find out. Just when you think a decision has been made, glorious cliffhanger!
*I received a copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.*
2.5 Stars
This novella picks up right at the end of the first as Ivy is taken to the Alpha's chambers. I struggled with this part of the novella as her time with the Alpha was not my cup of tea. Earnest power struggles and little to no intimacy.
The story picks up again at the choosing ceremony, with Ivy still no closer to making a choice. The novella ended strong and I'm excited to read the last installment!
This is a great book with a wonderful story and well developed characters. This book will keep you reading long into the night. This was such a great read and full of surprises. I am looking forward to reading the next book by this great author. A Review copy was provided to me in exchange for a fair and honest review. The free book held no determination on my personal review.
This is the second book in this series and continues where the first book left off. This is a fast paced read, Lukas, the alpha has chosen Ivy and plans on seducing her before she chooses a mate. The sex is off the charts hot and now Ivy is in the process of deciding who she will choose. Steamy read! Looking forward to the next in the series.
I was given a free copy for and honest review. Book 2 in the series, and holy hell.... these cliff hangers are to die for. I was left wanting more, and I am not know for my patients. I can't wait for book 3 and 4,5,6 I can't get enough! Reaper or Lukas..... I want both! Y can't I have both!!
Are you ready for more alpha hotness, dumb question of course you are and in this part Lukas takes lead and Red in more ways than one. Holy hotness, he's hot. I'm talking he could melt panties with just his voice hot.
