I think that this is the first series that I’ve listened to that every one of the audiobooks is written and narrated perfectly, without no boring parts to make it longer and make more money by selling extra books.
WARNING:
I declare this series a very addicting substance which will be impossible to stop or even put down!

Absolutely recommended for addicts like me.

Good, Enjoyable Series

I've read entire series so far and enjoyed every book. Author has some very interesting and thought provoking sub-plots that makes the series more entertaining, interesting. Huge Plus.

Usually when I like a book -- feels right, good writing, reasonable military (many SCIFI authors get the military wrong), not too technical devoting 1/3 describing technology (don't need to rationalize w me unless far out), etc -- I don't nitpick. However....

I'm starting to notice some drift by author on some basic fundamentals of writing -- character development! Characters introduced, either heroic or treacherous and author spends little time developing. Focus is on action, possibly too much and sometimes very fast. I'm losing touch w characters . There are so many interesting character development opportunities n author is not exploiting.

The actions of saving Earth, Crucible a Dotok makes comments regarding Earth military. This could have been fleshed out more. There are other examples , a lot of them. Only characters I know are the Marine squad, iron hearts, few others and they're no longer developing. Relationships between 3 resident races on earth -- ?

Eight fleet action, last one, was so fast that im not sure exactly what happened. Maybe it's just me, I'm a little slow, tad stupid and lots of crazy. Action was great but what exactly did we do to General n his 'fleet' and there was either too much or too little detail through out action. Strategic vs tactical.

The proccie n doughboy stuff is great but .... So much opportunity n not taken advantage of to make this series outstanding . And my 2 cents, with all of the stuff couples are now doing to have kids, the 'racism' of proccie n natural is moot . Per marine squad relationships, that's what it's all about and all military gets it -- brothers.

Look forward to next.

Creeping toward resolution: death or success?

In this latest novel about the "Ember War Saga ", the Xaros fleet starts to enter the Solar System, Malal ( the most evil one) seems to have joined the humans (maybe?), one Sergeant may have returned from the dead - but reincarnated as a drone, and the Earth has had time to organize a defense - but the mathematical models indicate that won't be enough for humanity to survive.

As Richard Fox has done in his previous five novels, there is non-stop battle action, divided by short scenes in which the protagonists question the methods they are using to survive.

Attitudes, philosophy and platitudes are expressed by our protagonists as each battle seems to require larger "Deals with the Devils" just for humanity, or the remnants to escape total and final extermination by (pick any one or all): Xaros, Tathos, Malel, or those claiming to be "allies". I'm sure even more enemies are waiting in the wings...as the Artificial Intelligence, older civilizations, the "ghost in the machine" (the memories and motivations of the human first contact - preserved in a computer - he actually died long ago) work to create a system of defenses for Earth and the Solar System.

As the struggle intensifies, reaching almost apocalyptic proportions, humanity's few true allies work behind the scenes to preserve some of humanity. Often these characters manipulate humanity, rather than working openly. This leads to big problems for the cast of protagonists, as they often work at cross-purposes, misinformed as to goals and means.

This series is military space opera in a galaxy-wide scale. Fox drops a few hints (and probably a few red herrings) as the war progresses, but I still can't figure out where he is going with this huge tail. This novel and the entire series are Highly Recommended.

This is a story of two parts - 8th Fleet on a mission to slow the Xaros down and The Breitenfeld teaming up with the powerful Malal on a hunt for some of his secrets to help humanity survive.

Lt. Hale, Cortaro, Bailey, Orozco, Yarrow, Egan, Steuben, Lafayette and Standish do not have too much to do this time, but they are that comforting presence and when they are involved, they have, as ever, fantastic camaraderie and action scenes.

Elias, Bodel and Kallen - The Iron Hearts step up more in this book and their Moral Values take centre stage as well as their fighting skill.

There is one character who really takes centre stage and though I won't mention their name, in case anyone does read this and I spoil it for them, but they are not the same as they were and could become a major asset if they are allowed to be.

I'm still loving this and have bought the Seventh Book on Audible. Three more books for the characters to survive - I'm worried!

I just love this series, although the God-like powers of some of the "pre-cursor" intelligences and the leaders of the main antagonist are somewhat hard to fathom. Would highly evolved beings really be able to transmute matter with their minds? I'm a bit more grounded in tech-based advancements, so that put me off a bit, but the characters are well developed for a sci-fi battle series, and there are no obvious plot lines - the humans take it on the chin many a time with some very interesting twists and turns, and excellent battle sequences in deep space. If you like rail guns, cruisers, battle armor, and high powered Gauss rifles, then this series is for you.

Real page turner!!

This was one of the more complicated and surprise filled books of the Ember War Saga. I really enjoyed this chapter as much or more than the previous ones.
** Spoiler Alert **
I guess that there are times when the good guys need to be casualties, but there seem to have been more in this book than the others.

hope

while the 8th takes on the star of drones that is it's own black hole for the Xaros, Hale and his crew accompany Stacey and Malel to his hidden laboratory to gather the information he needs to help Earth stop the attackers. or so he says. and there are side games being played among the Xaros; now who would have expected that?

Very good story

This was a good one. Lots of action. Earth is still in serious danger from the Xaros, but no one has been standing idly by waiting for the end. War forces new alliances and sometimes that's a good thing. Only time will tell.

Compared to many other scifi series of this genre, this series tends to be long periods of mediocre writing with an occasional uptick in quality. It is easy to get bored and lose track. Going to read one more book in the series and if it doesn't pick up, I'm done.

This really jumped around more than the other books. I found myself having to re-read whole chapters because I couldn't figure out how the story got where it was. Not my favorite book in the series so far, but still a good overall read

Continues to entertain...

This 6th book in the series continues to entertain. The events leading up to the inevitable invasion Earth have been methodically revealed in a way that I think most sci-fi fans will enjoy. The interesting underlying plot-line compels you read on...

Malal becomes useful!

Another great contribution to the series! Lots of action! Kind of sad that the doughboys were passing away 😥. Looking forward to how they take on billions of drones haha.

Storyline, Writing and Editing Improved

Book 6 of "The Ember War Saga-Battle of the Void," picks up the SciFi storyline of near future humanity, caught in a fight for survival, pinned between various, powerful alien races-some xenocidal, some allies and others duplicitous.

The writing and editing are much improved from prior books of the series, indicating that the author is again taking professional control of his work. There are minor flaws-one dimensional characters, inane plot twists, questionable "science"- but overall, it's a quick and decent read.

The book is recommended.

Great book continues the story

What a great follow up book, we see that the battles continues, earth has sent out a fleet of ships with the hope of delaying the next wave of the Carlos. The fleet plan works with limited success, but can Hale and his team find something that will help win the war. malal is still playing both sides, can Hale and earth trust him? But a further shock for all is the return of Torni but not the one that you expect. Enjoy and then look forward to reading the next book in July.

Another Great Read

Mr Fox has made this series one of my favorites. The book is well written and full of action . I like space action and this is a great series . The twists alone will keep you reading just to see what happens. Sorry I'm not much for saying what a book is about because I have a way of spoiling it so if you haven't been reading this series then give it a try. Nice work Mr Fox.

Good story. Bad spell checking.

I enjoyed the story, much as I expected to and I would have given it five stars had it no been for the frequent misspellings, perhaps from a search and replace gone wild. Example: Every time the letters "plain" should have been in a word, they were replaced with "plane," as in "Let me explane" or "tell me "planely"... I can't believe this author suddenly forgot how to spell after 5 books.

A great continuation

What can I say about this book but wow. Without spoiling anything Richard Fox out did himself again. The pressure is on in this book. The 8th fleet and the Xaros have one heck of a fight. If you liked the first book with the space battles then get ready to love this one even more.
