Legend of Love
Muse Chronicles series #2. Contemporary romance, slight paranormal edge. Can be read as a stand-alone however better as part of the series.
Hunter Armstrong is a Navy SEAL, driven and dangerous. He doesn’t really believe that his birthmark is a sign that he is to protect Callie O’Connor but she soon proves her claim. Hunter is caught in the middle of a mythology mystery that he never expected to be real.

Compelling and steamy. The team is building for the current Muses.

Legend of Love by Lisa Kessler is the second book in the Muse Chronicles series. If I were to make a comparison with the previous book. I would have to say this my favourite.

What the story is about.

Legend of Love is Callie O’Connor’s story. Callie is a woman of adventure, but when the muse epic poetry came alive within her, her life was never the same. To escape the effects of what her muse does to her she moved across the country and took a job as a civilian psychologist for the Navy while leading her sister muses in their quest to reopen the Theatre of the Muses. She is determined to stay single and made a pact to remain dateless and single until the theatre was completed. However, she never counted on meeting Hunter Armstrong, a Navy Seal, who is determined to break down her barriers and do his best to protect her from the evil at hand.

The Story

The story picked up from where book one left off. The threat to the muses is not over. Instead of weakening, it intensified. The Order of the Titans are determined to put an end the inspiration of this generation, that means killing the muses, and Callie is on their radar.

The story began on a strong note and maintained that pace to the end. We learn more about The Order of the Titans. Based on their actions, I would say they are fanatics, which makes them deadly. However, I found them to be inefficient in their quest to kill the muses.

The theme that intrigued me most about this series was how Greek mythology was incorporated with present day events. The intensity of the action scenes kept me glued to the pages. My eagerness to discover how the events would unfold kept me turning the pages.

I loved how the romance unfolded. Callie and Hunters’ connection was instantaneous, which I expected due to the legend surrounding the guardian and his muse. However, the romance developed at a pace that was befitting the characters. I appreciated their attempts at getting to know each other before rushing into the carnal aspect of their relationship.

There was a particular scene which I found emotional. Reading that scene made me feel sad but placed a smile on my face.

The Characters
Character development was well executed. Callie’s past is riddled with secrets and as a result, she is scared to get close to Hunter. She believes she would cause heartbreak for any man she gets close to and so getting involved with Hunter was out of the question.

Hunter is a troubled soul. He joined the military to help his family. However, his duty to his country prevented him from sharing in important events in their lives. Added to that, he is struggling with the guilt of leaving behind a team member during his last deployment. Meeting Callie would bring changes to his life in ways he never anticipated.

I loved Callie and Hunter together. He helped her to move past her fears and seize her destiny. With Hunter, she learnt she need not fear who she had become. She helped him to see that he need not feel guilty about his family or his friend.

Conclusion/Recommendation
I thought this was a great addition to the series. I can’t wait to see what next the author has in store for this series.

(RabidReads.com)3.5/5 stars rounded up. Book 2 of The Muse Chronicles, continues this series about a group of modern day women, each with a Muse that lives inside her. Muses, as in Greek mythological beings-daughters of Zeus. These women are trying to renovate an old theater in order to facilitate all things artistic, for the ages. Of course, it’s not that simple. There’s a group out to get them and they want to wipe out all of the Muses.

This time around is Callie’s turn. She was one of the more noticeable peripheral characters in the first book, so I was looking forward to her story. Callie is the Muse of Epic Poetry, but only in a kind of spiritual way. At the age of eighteen the Muse woke up inside of her. Of course, she’s still human, she just is aware of the Muse and what she must do for society. She’s also a psychiatrist and works with the military. Hunter Armstrong is a Navy Seal, home temporarily. All he needs is for the base psychiatrist to sign off on him being able to continue in his job after he was involved in a rougher than normal mission. He is assigned to Callie, as her patient, and is pretty much smitten with her at the first meeting. She, of course, won’t go out with him, as she would never jeopardize her career that way. But Hunter has a plan, and so ethically, she is able to finally go, and teaching her to surf seems the way to go. As in the first book, Hunter was born with a birthmark. It starts bothering him as soon as he meets Callie. And he develops a special psychic talent at the same time. He thinks he’s nuts, but of course Callie knows better.

As with book one, the group that is trying to eradicate them still didn’t make a lot of sense to me. They were lethal, but seemingly inept at times. They think the Muses must be stopped from bringing any kind of good to the world. Meanwhile, they are drilling into the earth’s core, via an oil well, to try and break out an even worse group that is imprisoned there-for centuries. Here’s the thing, they have no proof the group even exists. As I said, this part of the plot was a bit weak for me. There’s more involved of course, but this is the gist of it.

What I enjoyed the most was the characters and romance and since that was at least 70% of the book, that made this a fairly good read for me. The main characters from book one, Lure of Obsession, are pretty major characters in this one as well. We see some more of the other Muse’s, not a lot, but enough to wonder who will have the next book. And we also find out who else has a birthmark, which was unexpected.

There’s a few scary moments, a few edge of your seat moments, and all of that really added to the story. There is of course some steamy scenes. In future books I would like to see more about the renovation and what is planned and how they are supposed to make such a mark on all of society that this nefarious group needs them dead. But Lisa Kessler knows how to spin a good yarn, and this is yet another one under her belt. I am sure she has a plan for all of this.

I would recommend this to adult light paranormal romance fans-as in light on the paranormal aspects.

Lisa Kessler helps readers learn a little about Greek mythology with her Muse Chronicles series.

Legend of Love is the second book in the series and is a standalone read. The story features Callie O’Connor, a Navy Psychologist, and Hunter Armstrong, a Navy SEAL. The two meet when Hunter is sent to her to deal with the outcome of his last mission and get cleared to return to duty. Their session doesn’t go so well, but their attraction to each other is clear. It isn’t long before they figure out their destiny is to be together. Callie is the Muse of Epic Poetry and the leader of this generation’s muses. According to legend, Hunter has been marked to protect her and in doing so has gained a remarkable ability to add to his SEAL training.

“I’m a warrior, and I’ll defend you with my life.”

I loved that Legend of Love was outside of the contemporary romance genre that I usually read. While it took me sometime to get all the Greek mythology straight, I loved the fantasy aspect woven in. I loved the mystery/suspense element that started with the first book (Lure of Obsession) and most likely continues throughout the series. Surprisingly, the fact that the mystery/suspense doesn’t get resolved isn’t a negative, but adds to the appeal of the series. While the mystery/suspense continues, the couples featured in each book do have their stories resolved.

Hunter and Callie are a perfect match. They each have family baggage that they help each other to process. “I don’t want to clip your wings. I want to fly with you.” They understand each other like no one else ever has. While Callie tries to put up walls to protect Hunter, he refuses to be dissuaded. “You don’t give up do you?” “Never.”

Lisa has written a story with humor, amazing likeable characters, sex and as mentioned a little suspense. Legend of Love is definitely a book you aren’t going to want to put down.

I love this series and Lisa Kessler's writing! I love the romance and the suspense! Legend of Love is the 2nd book in the Muse Chronicles, and although each book is about a different Muse and their Guardian, I think it's best to read the first book before this one or you will have some spoilers for the first in this book, and the first book is excellent as well, so no hardship there. The Muses are in danger because someone is out to kill them so they can't open a theater and inspire people to do great things, and to help out the Muses, each has a Guardian that will supposedly help them out, and each of these Guardians will have something special to help the Muses succeed. In this book, we get Callie's story, she is the Muse of Epic Poetry, which means she has the desire to be a bit of a daredevil. Callie also works as a psychiatrist on a military base, and that's where she meets Hunter. Hunter is a soldier that just had a mission where one of his fellow soldiers didn't make it back home, so he needs to get approval to return to service. Hunter and Callie feel an attraction towards each other, but Callie is hesitant because she has a bad experience from her past that affects her. Callie and Hunter are really sweet together and have some super hot moments and some swoon worthy moments, and I love how honest they are with each other; there's no games. Legend of Love is entertaining and I enjoyed the action, and I'm super excited to read the next book!

Legend of Love is the second book in the series and I’m starting to get the feeling that each Guardian will have unique skills that JUST HAPPEN to align with the specific danger scenario’s the Muse ends up in. I’m getting this feeling since Nate is a detective and Mel needed a detective. This time, Callie needed a strong protective force that comes in the form of a Navy SEAL.

One of the best things about this story was that even though Hunter pursued Callie and kept asking her out, she didn’t just give in. She stuck to her guns and focused on talking to Hunter about their feelings and what was going on. While at the same time it didn’t feel like Hunter changed who he was, other than the natural progression of someone making hard decisions about their careers.

We also learn more about the Order of the Titans, what they are trying to achieve and the lengths they will go through to achieve them. I get the feeling that as I progress through each book we will learn more and more while also growing the little army against them in the form of Guardians who can work together to shut them down.

The one thing that kind of bugged me about this Callie’s Muse is that I couldn’t really see the relevance of her in this story. With Mel we could see her use her Muse’s powers throughout her story. However, with Callie we only get hints at it and more warnings and memories of her Muse’s impact to her life.

So Hunter’s op didn’t end like it was suppose to. Hunter was sent home for some R & R Nut Hunter isn’t sure where home is anymore . Hunter carries guilt from the mission though it isn’t warranted. Hunter is determined to go back and bring him home. Hunter is Callie’s patient and he is smitten with her since he met her. But Callie won’t jeopardize her career and go out with Hunter. Hunter has a birthmark that has started to bother him since he met Callie. He also develops a psychic ability. Each guardian has something to help his muse succeed. Callie also has the desire to be a bit of a dare devil. Her muse awakens an adrenaline junkie in Callie looking who is always looking for the next rush and challenge. That can be detrimental to any relationship she may want to form. Callie keeps most people at arm's length. Hunter’s determination and charm eventually wear Callie’s determination down to push him away. Each muse must connect to her guardian to survive from the group trying to kill all the muses. The last time Callie was involved with a man her muse took over and it ended badly.
I really enjoyed this story a lot. I loved the new twist on muses . This was a quick read. I liked that there was a lot of mythological history in this story. This is also fast paced as well as action packed. This story has: kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, suspense, action, lies, missing teammate, mythological creatures, humor and Navy Seals, and so much more. At times this story was scary and had me on the end of my chair. I think Callie and Hunter make a perfect pair and I was rooting them on. I didn’t want to put this down. I loved Callie’s and Hunters character and I loved the ins and outs of this story and I recommend.

Another great story in the muse chronicles. This time the group known as Kronos are attacking as hard as ever, but most of the muses don't realize how close to home they have been to their group. A wonderful love story of Hunter and Callie, as they both have to deal with their issues to find peace with themselves before they can find it together.

Callie O'Connor loves adventure she needs it, when she thought it was going to be taken from her she ran. Working as a psychologist for the Navy she meets Hunter and sparks fly. The attraction they have towards each other is scaring her. She doesn't want to hurt another, but can she walk away?

***4 'Things are starting to get interesting' Stars***

I really enjoyed Lure of Obsession, closet Greek mythology nerdgirl here, and after finishing it I knew I’d be grabbing the next one to see what would be coming next for the Muse’s and I wasn’t disappointed! Legend of Love is fun, quick read with a good mix of romance, heat and suspense that kept me turning the pages until I couldn’t turn them any more.

Callie is the Muse of Epic Poetry and the unspoken leader of her sister Muses. She has accepted that she has the Muse of Epic Poetry within her and feels an affinity with her and yet due to an incident in her past she must keep the impulses her Muse inspires locked away because she awakens the adrenaline junkie in her who is always looking for the next rush and challenge and that can be detrimental to any relationships she may want to form. I loved Callie. She was strong, determined and when she let go, really fun. I understood why she kept most people at arm’s length after what she experienced it’s not hard to see, but sometimes you have to go with your gut and snap that leash.

Hunter went into the military to help take care of his family and while he doesn’t regret it, it has kept him away from his family ~ for one reason or another ~ and from sharing in those once in a lifetime moments. He’s been sent home for some R & R after an op didn’t end the way it should have and he’s finding that he’s not all too sure just where home is anymore. I adored Hunter. Tall, dark, handsome, stubbornly determined, sexy alpha male with charisma in spades. The guilt he’s carrying around is unwarranted, but it goes to show what a good man he is.

Callie and Hunter’s journey was a fun one. With the whole Muse/Guardian connection activated there was what I’ll call insta-interest and attraction, but nothing more than that to begin with. Callie does her best to push Hunter away, but his tenacity and charm wear her down, as does seeing him half nekkid, and soon they find that they are kindred spirits and not just because they’ve been drawn together because of some higher power working it’s magic. The sexual tension/chemistry between them was HOT and I loved how they fought for each other. And the ending? I even teared up a bit for them.

As much as I enjoyed Lure of Obsession I felt like there were still pieces missing that could have made the book that much better and in Legend of Love Ms. Kessler stepped up her game. What I felt was missing in the first book was not missing from this one at all. I loved how much deeper we got, not only into the overall storyline with the Order of Titans and why they are doing what they are doing, but the MC’s pasts as well. I enjoyed hanging out with Nate, Mel and Maggie and the rest of the Muses, but am definitely looking forward to more of Reed, so bring on the next book in the series!

Hunter, a Navy SEAL, is home after a mission gone wrong. A teammate was captured and he's determined to bring him home, however, he must first be approved by a psychologist. When he sees her, he can't stop thinking about playing doctor. He's hopeful he'll get cleared for duty very soon, have some fun with his shrink, and figure out why all of a sudden he can hear thoughts.

Callie, a civilian, works with the military ensuring men and women are emotionally and mentally healthy to perform their jobs. When she sees her next appointment, she's immediately attracted, but due to her particular muse is hesitant to get involved with any man. Even one that calls to every part of her.

Hunter and Callie both feel the intense attraction between them, as well as the undeniable connection. Hunter has always believed his job wasn't conducive for a lasting relationship, yet that doesn't seem to matter when it's Callie. Since the Muse of Epic Poetry came alive inside her and eventually ended her engagement, Callie feels she's destined to be alone because her muse will never be satisfied, always looking for the next adventure. But there's just something about Hunter that she can't resist.

When it becomes clear that Hunter is Callie's guardian, sent specifically to protect her, the two grow closer as they spend time together. Callie explains Hunter's new path in life and Hunter is determined to keep Callie safe...and to make her his forever.

Can Hunter and Callie uncover who is behind the attacks on Callie? Will they be able to take down the group determined to stop the Muses from fulfilling the prophecy? Will Callie survive? What happens when Hunter needs to return to duty and go on a mission to retrieve his friend? Can Hunter and Callie make a relationship work? Will her fears regarding her Muse's sense of adventure keep her from taking a chance? Can these two get their HEA? It seems Hunter's best friend, Reed, has a certain distinguishing mark signifying he too is a guardian. Who will his Muse be?

One-click now and follow along as two people destined to be together find their way to each other and begin a love that was fated to be. Please keep in mind this is book two in the series and I highly recommend reading them in order. It's a fantastic and unique premise behind the series and I eagerly devour each story. I've already pre-ordered book three, Erica's story, and it doesn't release until March 2017.

LEGEND OF LOVE was just as fast paced and full of romance as book one, LURE OF OBSESSION. We learned a lot about the world of the muse chronicles in book one, so book two stuck to the continued storyline and character love story.

Callie is the Muse of Epic Poetry and isn't looking for a relationship, so when Hunter Armstrong walks into her office and starts to flirt she tries very hard to keep him at arms length—even though she is just as drawn to him as he is to her. On top of her pact with her fellow Muse sisters preventing her from jumping into a relationship with Hunter, she has a fear of hurting another man. An old fear that isn't easy for her to get over. Luckily fate has a hand in things and Hunter ends up being her Guardian. I found Callie to be very determined, yet fun when she's able to let go. She is definitely someone I could see myself hanging out with.

Hunter loves his family so much that he joined the military to help take care of them. When he's sent home after a challenging mission that left one of his brothers missing in action, he is sent to a therapist. Hunter doesn't want to talk about it, but he is definitely interested in the therapist. Hunter quickly won my heart. He was loyal, protective and willing to go the extra step for those he cares about.

The relationship was the best part of the book. Hunter and Callie were made for each other. They had plenty of ups and downs, but there relationship felt real and their connection shined through the pages. The secondary characters, especially the Muses, continue to be a strong part of the storyline and I loved seeing them again and continuing their journey to open their theater and inspire everyone. Both Melanie and Nate also play a good part in LEGEND OF LOVE, it was nice seeing them again and seeing that they still have their happily ever after.

There is just something about this world and these characters that draws me in. BREATH OF PASSION—Erica's love story— is up next and I look forward to diving into it.

*Disclaimer: I received an eARC of this book from Netgalley and Lisa Kessler in exchange for an honest review. This does not influence my rating or the content of my review in any way.

I'm completely in love with this series, and I'm waiting anxiously for each and every book in this series. The second book in this series takes the story further, by introducing a new Guardian, Hunter, but also by making the villains more evil and scarier, maybe even a little bit deranged.

Hunter is an interesting choice for a Guardian. I like how his military career was portrayed and how it played into his role as a Guardian. I also liked the fact that he didn't have the same gift as Nate, so I'm assuming each Guardian will have different gifts. I'm also assuming that their gifts are somehow tied to what the Muse they're protecting.

Callie was a great heroine. I like how she dedicates herself to working with military men and women, to help them heal from traumas from being in war zones. The thing I liked most about her is that she's not perfect, she has a little bit of a wildness in her, due to her Muse, that she tries a lot to keep under control.

I liked Callie and Hunter together, they make a great team, and I liked the little glimpse into Mel and Nate's future. The pacing was great, and there were a few developments in the overall story, that of some really deranged people trying to keep the Muses from opening up the Theater of the Muses, that I'm very curious to see how it will play out in the future books.

All in all, a great book and one that any urban fantasy lover should add to their TBR piles.

This was a quick read, with a lot of action and romance that kept me wanting to read more and more. It picks up where the previous book left off, and I liked how you didn't really need to read the first book to understand what's going on (although it helps).

Dr. Callie O'Connor is a psychologist on the local military base in Crystal City, California. She's been on a no-dating streak for a while, along with her "sisters", the Muses. Each have within them a Muse from Greek mythology. Callie's is the Muse of Epic Poetry. A group of men are out to get her and her sisters, and they each must connect with their Guardian in order to survive. Hunter Armstrong, a Navy SEAL home after a mission overseas, is that Guardian for her. Soon Callie's no-dating rule is gone, and she and Hunter must work together to keep her alive.

While I liked both characters individually, I did have some trouble becoming truly invested in their relationship. I like Hunter a lot, even with his insecurities, and he truly cared about other people. Callie was very relatable as well, but I was aggravated in the beginning with her martyr-ish attitude. It became a bit much, and I was glad when she finally came out with the truth of her past. The story felt a bit stunted until that point.

I enjoy these books so far, and I look forward to reading more in the series! I think I can already tell where the next one is headed, and I'm very excited.

I loved the first book in the Muse Chronicles but I think Legend of Love by Lisa Kessler is even better if that is possible. It is a must read for fans of well-written intriguing romance with just enough magic to keep it from being predictable. This latest addition, book 2, continues the overall theme of the danger to the muse sisters as well as learning more about those villains, the Kronos worshippers. While you could read this book as a stand-alone, the big picture would be clearer by reading these books in order. It is an addicting series so you will want to read Lure of Obsession anyway.

This is Callie’s story, she “houses” (for not having a better word to use) the Muse of Epic Poetry. Her story would not be complete without finding her Guardian, Hunter. One of the elements of this series that I enjoy the most is seeing how each of the guardians is different. Both books have strong, alpha males with a strong hero complex but their career choices are different. Then the “gifts” that they are given after meeting the Muse is different but such a help in their goal of protecting. This helps keep each story new and fresh to me.

Ms. Kessler has the wonderful style of combining believable, genuine characters in a realistic contemporary setting with fantasy, so the story seems and feels true. It definitely holds your attention. So all in all, Legend of Love is an amazing suspenseful romance.

An ARC of the book was given to me by the publisher through Net Galley

This book picks up where the previous one left off. The sisters are working together to refurbish the theatre, and the Kronos worshippers are doing anything they can to get in their way.

Callie, who houses the muse of epic poetry, is a complex character. A civilian psychiatrist contracted to work with the military, Callie has past traumas of her own that she keeps wrapped tightly within. When she lets her muse loose, people get hurt, so it's safer that way. Well, it seems that way until Navy SEAL Hunter walks through her door for a mandated appointment after losing a comrade in a raid. The two are obviously drawn to each other, like moths to flame, but Callie is reluctant to open herself to anyone. Hunter's character was perfect and swoon-worthy. Who doesn't love a military man with a heart of gold?

I especially enjoy this series because the characters are complex, but real, and the background is rich in its setting, mythological history, and secondary characters. The end of the book even gives a hint of which couple the next book will follow. I, for one, cannot wait to read it.

This was fast, easy, and fun read with the perfect amount of spice, character development, and action. Another fun five star read from Lisa Kessler.

Navy SEAL, Captain Hunter Armstrong is desperate to get back to the desert and rescue the team mate they lost, but until intelligence find out where he is being held he can't go anywhere. The navy insist he see a shrink to make sure he's got his head together.
Dr Callie O'Connor is also the "Muse of Epic Poetry " that makes her a bit of an adrenaline junkie. She finds it hard to live without excitement. As the Muses are targets of the Order of Titans, that excitement can be deadly.
Our heroine is doing her best to keep the sexy SEAL at arms length. Our hero us used to fighting for what he wants. He relishes the challenge.
A very exciting and epic romantic suspense. You could read this as a stand alone but it's better to read the series to follow the background story.
I'm totally hooked on this series and can't wait for the next book.

Hunter and Callie's story was epic. The way the author combined mythology of the past into the future was superb. It was a joy to read and learn at the same time. I love a book that can captivate me from the beginning and hold that interest throughout making it impossible to put down the book! Book gifted to me.

A pulse-pounding blend of sweet, heat and dangerous perils!

“No matter what you tell me—” his lips curved into a sexy smile “—I’ll still want you.”

“But you’ll at least understand why it’s a bad idea.”

He tipped his head back under the water. “Oh, Doc…” He ran his hands through his hair and met her eyes again. “I’m the king of bad ideas.”

Legend of Love by Lisa Kessler is another exciting, fast-paced, action-packed installment in The Muse Chronicles series. The series has strong Greek mythology overtones and is based on a prophecy that deems that every generation the nine daughters of Zeus are reborn along with nine guardians – one of each of the Muses. In Legend of Love, the Muse of Epic Poetry, Navy psychologist Callie O’Connor, finds her guardian, Navy SEAL Captain Hunter Armstrong.

Legend of Love picks up pretty much from where Lure of Obsession ended. The cult of Kronos worshippers who were dealt a blow in the first book are strengthening again. This time, they have their eyes on Callie to be their next victim.

As the story opens, Hunter is on mental health leave with orders to see a psychologist while spending the holidays with his family in Crystal City after his last mission didn’t end as expected. A comrade was captured by insurgents, and once intelligence finds where he is being held, an extraction mission will be imminent. Having an alpha mindset, Hunter is not keen on seeing a doctor even though he’s experiencing PTSD symptoms. But, he does as ordered and makes an appointment with Dr. O’Connor. He was not expecting him to be a her. Neither was he expecting to be attracted to the therapist or to start hearing voices in his head or to suddenly have an old birthmark become an angry shade of red.

Callie does not date her patients ever. But, she has to admit to herself that she is attracted to her new patient. Callie has her own issues from a failed past relationship where she felt that choices made by the adrenaline junkie in her hurt her former partner. Therefore, now she keeps her daredevil side locked away and refuses to get involved with anyone else. Then… Hunter changes doctors… and he’s no longer her patient. But, Callie has another problem. As the unspoken leader of her sister Muses, she had instituted a no-dating pact for them to limit their distractions until the Theater of the Muses becomes a reality. Completion of the Theater would inspire mankind to reach for their dreams in the arts and sciences. One Muse has already breeched the pact. How can she fail her fellow Muses by breaking the pact herself?

Both leads were likable and their romance seemed genuine – though Callie fought their attraction a bit more than I would have liked. I really enjoyed their surfing scenes in which Hunter, a world-class surfer, taught Callie to surf. Lisa’s writing was so vivid that I felt like I could actually feel the rush that Callie experienced when she caught her first wave.

Following please find a few of my favorite quotes from Legend of Love:

“I’m coming into this embracing that wild spirit in you. I don’t want to clip your wings. I want to fly with you.”
---
“I love surfing, but ---" his gaze wandered over the thin sheet covering her body before he met her eyes again " --- no wave could ever compete with you.”
---
“Hunter scooped her up into his arms as if she weighed nothing and carried her over to the bed. He laid her down and then moved behind her to spoon her, his arm holding her close to his chest. His lips brushed her ear. "Before you push me away, you have my word that once you're asleep, I'll go in the other room, okay?" ...
Without moving, she whispered into the darkness, "What if I don't want you to go?”
---
“I thought when you finally kissed me, I'd be able to walk away." He shook his head, his voice lowering to a throaty whisper. "I was dead wrong.”

Legend of Love is a pulse-pounding blend of sweet, heat and dangerous perils. This book fleshed out more of the history of the Order of the Titans and why they are doing what they are doing. Legend of Love could be enjoyed as a stand-alone read if that is your preference. That said, I enjoyed hanging out with Nate, Mel and Maggie and the rest of the Muses from the first book herein.

Breath of Passion is up next. It will be Erica's love story. She is the Muse of Lyrics who is also known as the Muse of Passion and Erotic Poetry! I’m also excited about seeing more of Hunter’s friend, Reed, who happens to be an awesome surfer too! Oh My! I can’t wait! Bring it on!

Suggested Reading Order:

The Muse Chronicles:
Lure of Obsession (Book #1)
Legend of Love (Book #2)
Breath of Passion (Book #3) – Coming May 15th 2017!

Legend of Love by Lisa Kessler
Book #2: The Muse Chronicles
Source: Netgalley and Purchase
My Rating: 4½/5 stars
My Review:

Among the Muses, Callie O’Connor is the one most determined to stick to the “no men” pact she and her sisters struck. The last time Callie got involved with a man, her muse took over and the entanglement ended beyond badly. In fact, it ended so badly, Callie hasn’t even seen her own family in several years. Thankfully, she has the other Muses and their theater.

Hunter Armstrong is a lost man. Since returning from his last deployment, Hunter has struggled with settling back into his life. Through no fault of his own, Hunter is home while one of his fellow SEALs is lost overseas, he hasn’t seen his mother and sister in so long he’s nearly forgotten what they look like, and he doesn’t even have a proper place to live. It’s Hunter’s hope, the shrink he’s been ordered to see will just rubber stamp his paperwork so he can get on with the finding of his lost friend.

Callie is no one’s puppet and if the super-sexy SEAL across from her thinks she’s just going to sign off on his mental health, he’s a damn fool. Hunter may think he’s convincing, but his game is a bit off once he meets Callie. What’s more, following his stilted meeting with her, his birthmark begins to burn and he can apparently fear voices in his head. Yeah, maybe he does need a shrink and maybe a dermatologist to check out that birthmark.

Meanwhile, in the seat of evil (aka Belkin Oil) . . . . .

The followers of Kronos haven’t given up on their mission to kill off all the muses and they’ve singled out Callie as their next target. Before Hunter walked into her life, Callie may have been a far easier target, but Hunter’s abilities, both learned and innate make Callie a far more difficult target. Once she and Hunter take the time to really talk and Hunter understands his new role, it’s just a short step to the two falling for one another. When Hunter and Callie unite, they are force to be reckoned with and even the Kronos group is going to have a hard time getting through either of them.

The Bottom Line: With book two, The Muse Chronicles are really rolling and Hunter and Callie’s story brings them even deeper into the Kronos plot. The Muses were meant to be together and as each Muse collects her guardian, their strength and numbers increase. This only adds to the intensity and sexiness of each read. Really, how can you go wrong with more and more hot men protecting the women Fate brought to them? My only fear for this series is that it may become formulaic and stale: Muse meets hot man, Muse blows man’s mind with the story of guardianship, Kronos group tries to kill Muse, men and Muses thwart the plan, HEA. While this has been fine for the first two books, there is going to need to be threats and plot lines more expansive than this to keep readers interested and coming back for more.

Book Review- Legend of Love by Lisa Kessler

Hunter is home from active duty as a navy seal. After his last mission and his missing team member, his commanding officers what him to be in top form. He has been ordered to seek medical help and get a psych evaluation.
Calli O’Conner is the doctor he is sent to. He is immediately attracted to her. However he doesn’t want to be there. He hopes she will sign off on his paper work. She refuses.
Calli has her own issues. The muse of epic poetry shares her body. Her group of “sisters” that also house muses are here working to reopen the muse theater. The Order of Titans, however, had other plans. Their ultimate goal is to stop the muses by taking down their leader, Calli. Hunter discovers he has the birthmark and a new ability. He is freaked out at first until he learns what is really going on. He steps into the role of guardian wholeheartedly. Both Calli and Hunter grow closer but they need to fight their own demons. Things get dangerous as the Order of Titans step up their game and make things personal.
This is the first book I’ve read in this series. I instantly liked the characters. Hunter, the navy seal, was believable with his behavior and personality. Calli was a bit of a tough nut to crack. The author kept her guarded for a while. She definitely needed to loosen up.
The storyline was origin. I’ve never read anything like it. Muses that share women’s bodies with guardians appointed to each muse. I like reading something new and this story provided that. The characters were likeable and fun to be included with as you read the story. It was a fast paced and suspenseful story. There was kidnapping, murder, attempted murder, lies and surfing. The setting with access to the beach also added to the overall likeability of the story for me. Several elements were on point and the author created a great story as part of an interesting series. I am excited to read more. I give this story between Calli and Hunter a 4 out of 5.

This is the second book in the Muse Chronicles . This is a great new series and in book two we are introduced to Callie and Hunter . Callie is a psychologist working for the Navy but she is more then that . She is also the Muse of Epic Poetry and the leader of the Muse sisters . Hunter Armstrong is a Navy Seal, who is dangerous , sexy and all out alpha . When they meet its sparks that both of them want to deny . Will they survive each other and the titans to figure out how much they mean to each other .

The characters are so well written and complex . Callie is a complicated woman who thought that she was all in for the Muses , she has some skeletons in her closet . After loosing her best friend she has closed herself off from finding any kind of love You see her grow more and come into her own as you read the book . Hunter is the man of your dreams . confident , kind of dangerous , he would lay down his own life to keep you safe. But he also has his secrets and you want to hold him tight and pull those secrets out of him . Together they are a force to reckoned with , they will keep you on your toes through out the book . I really loved these characters and really got invested in them as I read

This was a fast read for me , I finished it in one evening , I got so wrapped up in the story and the characters . This story mixes Greek mythology and hot sexy couples . I must say it really works . The action and fast paced and the sex is well lets just say have a fan and some ice on hand . So if you want a great evening read with sexy alpha men and the women they are sworn to protect check out the MUSE CHRONICLES by Lisa Kessler

*I voluntarily read a Review Copy of this book. All opinion stated are solely my own and no one else's*

This was a great read, pretty much continuing from where things left off in the first book.

Callie is the Muse of Epic Poetry and works as a civilian psychiatrist. When Navy SEAL Hunter walks into her office, sparks start flying but she's reluctant to pursue her attraction.

Hunter is drawn to Callie, he wants her yet she keeps pushing him away, but why? The birthmark on his wrist is getting really irritated and strange things are happening to him. Is he going crazy?

Will Hunter accept he's Callie's guardian or will he walk away?

A gripping read with lots of action, suspense and heat. I loved the depth/intensity of the characters: and their emotions/fears are captured beautifully. The ending gives you a big hint as to who the next muse and her guardian will be and I'm very excited and eager to read their story too. Lisa has written another fantastic book which doesn't disappoint.

Well this is the second book in this series and I have to say I liked it a bit better than book 1, the hero was a character easy to like, the heroine was not buried in her problems to the point of boring us with angst.

The story moved at a good pace, the threats were just dangerous enough to keep you on edge but not so much that it stressed you out to the point you really felt worse for reading it. The romance was done well, the sex was about right (since too many novels stick a sex scene in every couple of chapters just to add pages).

The return of characters from the previous book was done nicely since I always like that in a series without rehashing the whole story again.

The ending was believable and if I had to nitpick a bit I was waiting for the next couple to at least get to recognize each other but we do get to know who they are so not too bad .

Bottom Line: Still don't really get into the "muse" part of this series but the story still is a good one and the characters were entertaining and I enjoyed reading it so 4 Stars it is.

Book two in the Muses series brings us Navy Seal, Hunter, and the psychologist, Callie. He is sent to her after a rough mission, but he has no interest in talking and getting his head examined by an "old man". When he discovers that his doctor is a beautiful female he still doesn’t want to talk about how his mission went wrong, but he does want to go out on a date. Callie holds out strongly and stubbornly, but Hunter draws her in and when she discovers he is her Guardian it makes it even harder to resist his charm. As they grow closer, the Kronos Worshipers single Callie out as their next victim and it is up to Hunter to keep her safe. I enjoyed their story. The Order of Kronos is a bit weak for the bad guys. The members are part of a big oil conglomerate and yet they have to brainwash someone in order to make him fanatical enough to murder without question. They need to be more ruthless and aggressive. They come off as a bit passive compared to the strong protagonists in the story. Other than that, I enjoyed book two as much as book one. Looking forward to reading about Reed next.
