I'm a Dragon by Sigal Adler was creative, captivating, but confusing at the end.
I read this ebook to my children (6, 9, and 10). We didn't know what to expect from the title, except that a child was going to transform himself into a dragon. Little did we know that this boy's behavior would make him a "dragon-kid."
My children enjoyed the rhyming and illustrations. Although some words were a little advanced for my younger readers, with a bit of discussion, we were all able to infer from the text what specific words meant. The story kept my children's attention, and they grasped the lesson immediately.
The children were surprised at the dad's response to the dragon-kid's behavior. I was too. It appeared that the dad let his anger out and "blew up" at his child. Although having dad transform into "dragon-dad" was a creative ending, it gave us the initial impression that it's okay for parents to retaliate when their children disobey, or that it's okay to treat others in the same way they treat us. Again, this sparked some discussion among us, which was good.
Overall, we enjoyed the book and would recommend it to other families with young children. But we would also encourage discussion, especially about the ending.
