🦸🏼‍♀️ Heroine Spotlight: Malia

Malia is a fiercely independent woman carving out a life in Hawaii through a patchwork of odd jobs—boat tours, catering gigs, manual labor, hula dancing, even collecting water samples for grad students. Beneath her laid-back island exterior simmers a deep well of anger rooted in childhood trauma. Her resentment toward the powerful Farrell family runs so deep that she openly celebrated the death of Walter Farrell, the man she holds responsible for her family’s suffering. Malia’s strength isn’t just in survival—it’s in her refusal to forget.

---

🦸🏻‍♂️ Hero Spotlight: Robert Farrell

Robert’s life was upended when his father, Walter Farrell, was murdered last year. Now the reluctant heir to the family empire, he’s spent the past year cleaning up the wreckage left behind. A self-proclaimed New York playboy with a fear of commitment, Robert is unapologetically honest about his lifestyle. But the discovery of a half-sister, Jean, has cracked open something more vulnerable in him. As he tries to build a relationship with Jean, both siblings confront the legacy of a father who was anything but honorable.

---

🔥 Plot Snapshot

Their first meeting is pure serendipity: a sunset, a beach, and the elusive green flash on the horizon. Malia is charmed by Robert’s flirtation but wary—she’s not about to fall for a tourist, no matter how magnetic. Still, she lets herself enjoy the moment, even sharing a kiss that awakens long-dormant desire. When Robert offers his card, she accepts it with no intention of calling. But everything changes when she realizes he’s that Robert Farrell.

Fueled by old wounds, Malia wants nothing to do with him. Robert, however, is intrigued—and persistent. He tracks down her tour company and books a trip with his sister and her boyfriend, hoping to see her again. What begins as a romantic spark quickly turns dangerous when Robert receives an anonymous email with photos of their kiss and a chilling threat: “Touch her again and she dies.”

---

❤️‍🔥 What Worked

• The Hawaii setting is a dream—lush, vivid, and escapist. It’s a joy to travel there through the pages.
• Both leads are layered and likable, with emotional depth that makes their connection feel earned.
• Robert’s protectiveness toward Malia adds a compelling edge to his character arc.

---

🤨 Room for More

• I found myself craving an earlier reveal of Malia’s backstory. Her hatred for the Farrells is intense, and understanding the roots of that pain sooner would have deepened the emotional stakes.

---

🎧 Narration Vibes

Told through dual POVs, the narration by Marcio Catalano and Addison Barnes brings the story to life. While not my personal favorites, both deliver solid performances. Catalano’s voice is smooth and unobtrusive—he disappears into the story, which works well. Barnes, with her youthful and expressive tone, captures Malia’s spirit beautifully. Her emotional range adds texture to Malia’s journey.

---

📝 Final Thoughts

This audiobook blends tropical escapism with emotional grit, offering a romance that’s as much about healing as it is about attraction. Malia and Robert are two people shaped by the shadows of their families, trying to rewrite their own stories. If you’re drawn to character-driven narratives with a touch of suspense and a strong sense of place, this one’s worth the listen.

The second book in the Fractured Farrells series by Mallory Crowe. Robert Farrell is "vacationing" in Hawaii when he sees a woman on the beach. He is intrigued but Malia Martin wants nothing to do with the man and even less when she discovers who he is. Robert isn't through though. He arranges a boat tour for his sister and her boyfriend and decides to go along, knowing that Malia will be their guide. Then he starts getting threatening emails regarding Malia and needs to protect her.

I was pleased that Robert found his girl and, while I did sort of guess the whodunit, I didn't guess the why. So I did get a little surprised over that. Anyway, I am enjoying the series for the most part and look forward to the next.

REVIEW: RECKLESS is the second installment in Mallory Crowe’s contemporary, adult FRACTURED FARRELLS A Damaged Billionaires romantic, suspense series focusing on the Farrell siblings. The FRACTURED FARRELLS is a spin off from Mallory’s BILLIONAIRES IN THE CITY series. You do not have to have read the original series to understand or comprehend the premise of the new series. This is billionaire Robert Farrell, and tour guide Malia Martin’s story line. RECKLESS can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty although I recommend reading this series in order for backstory to understand the dysfunctional nature of the Farrell family.

Told from dual third person perspectives (Robert and Malia) RECKLESS is a story line that follows eldest sibling Robert Farrell as he embarks on a business trip to Hawaii where he meets Malia Martin-a woman so vehemently opposed to the Farrells that Roberts sees an opportunity to break through Malia’s hardened shell. What ensues is the building relationship between Malia and Robert, and the realization that the Farrells and the Martins go back a number of years. Malia blames the Farrells for everything that has gone wrong with her family; and Robert is desperately trying to undo the sins of the past.

Malia’s attitude and anger towards the Farrells, and thusly Robert, is caustic and bitter. As Robert tries to break through Malia’s defenses, someone else is targeting our couple with personal threats and accusations against Malia and Robert. The relationship between our couple is slow to build as Malia tries to keep her distance from Robert’s advances but Robert will become a constant in our heroine’s life as their would-be stalker begins to threaten anew. The $ex scenes are intimate and provocative.

All of the Farrell siblings play secondary or supporting roles, if only by way of mention. Logan’s pending release from prison for fraud becomes the number one agenda on the siblings list of things to do. Colin and Jean (Ruthless #1) spend a few days with Robert in the Hawaiian Islands. The world building is limited as the author did not venture into the Farrell Family business or the breathtaking scenery of the exotic islands. The story line focused on the threats against Robert and Malia, and Robert’s attempts to romance the heroine.

RECKLESS is an engaging and entertaining story. The premise is intriguing and optimistic; the characters are energetic; the romance is an early struggle towards a happily ever after.

Robert is the eldest of the Walter Farrell children. With the murder of his father, he has now been thrust into running Farrell Enterprises, and although he had worked for his father for more than 10 years, he hated Walter with everything he had. He’s now in Hawaii, working but also trying to balance a family relationship with his new sister Jean and her boyfriend Carter. A chance meeting with a women on the beach has him searching for something he never knew he wanted.

Malia has learned to survive regardless of the situation. She spend her time working odd jobs, giving tours and helping graduate students. One of those errands puts her on the beach, meeting an extremely man, which results in a searing kiss. After she leaves him on the beach, she discovers who Robert is. She has more reason hate the Farrell family than most. But she finds herself liking Robert more than she should. Everything she learns about Robert tells her just how different he is from the man that used to head the family and the man that tried to run her life.

Now there is a threat against them and no one is sure who it is, what they want, or even who the real target is. Strange threats start to appears, photos, Malia’s house burns down, Jean & Carter’s hotel room is vandalized. Can they stay safe and not destroy this fragile relationship of trust that they’ve started to forge?

I read this book in one day if that tells you anything about how much I enjoyed it. Now, I have to sit and wait until August for the next one. My only confusion came in the epilogue where Robert and Malia are having a conversation at a wedding. Malia makes a statement about being at his brother’s day, which brother is getting married? I would have got it if was Jean and Carter’s…I guess it just left me confused. I’ve asked author Mallory Crowe this question, and she says it’s a glimpse at the future and it will all come around. I have to trust her on this but I’m interested to see which brother would be faster to get to the alter as Robert’s personality doesn’t strike me as the type to sit back and have patience with putting a ring on Malia’s finger. He strikes me more as he found what he wanted, now he closes the deal.

I'm gonna start with my likes.

I enjoyed the snarky interplay between these two characters.

Mostly, Malia didn't react or say the usual vapid heroine reactions or invectives.

I was not enamored with her reaction to being 'kidnapped'. She was smart about Robert wanting to keep her safe in every other situation, which I appreciate. She didn't purposefully throw herself into dangerous situations by herself, but when Robert 'kidnaps' her for her own safety, she blows a gasket. Because, you know, spending a romantic getaway on a luxurious yacht with a gorgeous and generous lover is such a hardship. Boo!

I wasn't quite convinced with Robert falling in love with Malia. Like, when did that happen? Sometime during the three encounters hey had? There was no real indication of such a strong emotion from him in any of his POV chapters, so his declaration really surprised me.

All in all, though, I took it for what it was, and it was good enough for me to finish.

This was much better than the last book I read by this author. Not that it was horrible I just didn't enjoy it as much.

Robert and Malia were a fun couple to read about. There is a family feud of sorts with these two families but that just makes it all the more fun to read. I loved when Malia stopped fighting Robert and gave into what she felt and wanted. Robert was pretty yummy. The only downside was that I knew who was behind it all early on. But that's ok. I need to check out the rest of this series.

There just wasn't anything good about this book. There was no chemistry AT ALL between the two main characters. I couldn't believe they were interested in each other at all. And then their out of the blue declarations of love made the whole thing even more unbelievable. The stalker plot line was also a disappointment. Who it was did not come as a surprise, you could see that coming a mile away. The reasoning behind it fell totally flat and didn't make sense either. This book was a disappointment from beginning to end and I wish I hadn't wasted my time on it.

Robert and Malia's story. The sins of the father fall on the children. All of the Farrell children are hated and despised because of the way Walter Farrell cheated, betrayed and robbed innocent people to build his empire. Robert Farrell has never met Malia before, so he wonders why she hates him so much? Wait until he finds out what dear Daddy did!

It's been a while since I've read a story by Mallory Crowe and after reading this I'm kicking myself for not finding the time to read more. I enjoyed Reckless better than I did the first book I read by this author, Teaching The Boss.

Robert and Malia were such a great couple. I fell in love with them right away. The misunderstandings and conflicts between them were understandable once the full story of both their pasts came to light. There were also quite a few twists and turns in this one, some of which I didn't see coming.

This is the second book in this series, but I was able to read it without having read the first book. That being said, after reading this one I want to go back and read Colin and Jean's story.

I would recommend this book to anyone who's looking for a sexy romance with two characters that have a complicated past.

Mallory Crowe has done it again with Reckless ( Fractured Farrells 2) she's taking us into a world of family , love , passion , betrayal ... oh , did I already mentioned passion ;)
I love everything this author writes and was eager to read this awesome story about Malia Martin and Robert Farrell , knowing that I would get pulled immediately into the world she created for her very lovable characters . I loved Malia from the start but had never thought that I would love Robert so much !!!
We start off with Malia Martin , a strong and independent woman, living a quiet life on Oahu ,Hawai . That's where she meets a tourist on the beach while she's working for her living . From the minute they start to talk his attention is captured and so is hers . They share an instant attraction and fighting against it is fruitless. What she doesn 't know that very moment ; he's Robert Farrell , CEO from the Farrell company and family that she hates and loathes so much because they totally ruined her life and family when she was much younger .
I'm not giving too much on the fantastic plot and won 't spoil the whole story for you but the humor and the banter between Malia & Robert in this awesome story is too much !! There were moments I couln't stop laughing or smiling to myself between their interactions.
I thoroughly loved "Reckless" and could've read it in one sitting if life didn't interrupted me so much . This story will certainly captivate you and the suspense and romance between Malia and Robert will have you sitting on the edge of your seat, pleading that they get the happy ever after they deserve.
Thanks Mallory for this little gem with his touching plot, great dialogue, humor, and ... toe-curling sex !!
Now I 'm anxiously looking forward to read the imprisoned brother , Logan Farrell 's story in "Remorseless" .

Mallory, you’ve done it again. This is the second book in the Fractured Farrells: A Damaged Billionaire Series.
The story focuses on Robert Farrell and Malia Martin, the woman he spots and meets on the beach. Robert Farrell is no stranger to Malia after Robert’s father destroyed her family and left them homeless. He hasn’t any idea who she is and barely remembers the event of long ago. He was young and not involved in the family business at the time.

Malia lives on the island of Oahu where, it just so happens, the Farrells have one of their luxury resorts. Robert is there for a week or two representing Farrell Enterprises working to straighten out some problems. When he takes a very rare break to go outside it is then he spots the beautiful woman who’s collecting salt water samples in vials from the ocean. When she figures out just who he is she is determined to stay away from him but he’s just as determined to get to know her and he manipulates the situations to his advantage. He is inexplicably drawn to her, more than any other woman he has known.

Someone is sending Robert threatening notes and they’ll use Malia to get to him. Scary attacks begin happening. Photos turn up showing private moments with Robert and Malia and they have no idea how someone got so close without being seen.

We also get to spend some time reacquainting ourselves with Colin and Jean from book one as their relationship builds. Finding out more about Logan, the brother who is imprisoned, sheds new light with dastardly new evidence in his case. We also meet Alex Farrell briefly and begin to learn more about the family dynamics.

Pleased there was no cheating, other women or other men with our hero and heroine...thank you Mallory.

1.5?

Again... this is the second book I've read this week with a 'strong, independent and capable' h... And this is the second book that they just fold and follow orders. What is it with calling someone strong when they fold faster than a wet tissue?

This h has made a point of saying that after the H's family somehow fucked hers over when she was ten, she has been repeatedly homeless for most of her life and 'can literally be put down in any place with the clothes on her back and build a life for herself', homeless or not. And he fucking kidnaps her and after sulking for a few days, she's all 'so what's next master, because you've left me with no choice but to follow your orders since I have no where to go when we hit land'. WTF!

Anyway, I've finished the book now. Not great. Even putting the spineless issue aside, there's no real oomph. Especially after she caves, it's all a bit jumpy, wishy-washy and half hearted. There was no real connection between the characters, and it certainly didn't inspire any connection with me and the characters and the plots.

I just don't care that this is the second book and I haven't read the first... and I always care. And I have no real interest in any of the other brothers stories... and I am ALWAYS at least curious, and willing to at least put a bit of thought into how they might go. This time... nada. I'm done.

If you like romance, romantic suspense, mystery, and a fast-paced sexy rollercoaster ride, this is the book for you. Robert finds himself completely intrigued by Malia. He knows that she is not only attracted to him, and intrigued by him, but that she also hates him at the same time.

There are a number of little mysteries to be solved. Who wants to harm them? Why does she hate him, but can't quite stay away? More is revealed about the brothers Farrell, and their father Walter.

There is just one thing I wasn't sure about. There is an event at the end of the book. I'm not sure whose event was being attended by everyone. Maybe it will become clear to me in the next book. Don't get me wrong, this is NOT a cliffhanger. I may have just overlooked the info. I will be re-reading it to find out, and just because I enjoyed it the first time.

I received this book as an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

I have read the first five books of this series and like them. They follow the pattern H/h meet, feel attraction, assault, they stick together, fall in love, solve the problem with the help of the family, HEA, a one page long epilogue, and end around 93% on kindle. The rest is preview of the next book in the series including a sneak peek. Books 2-4 are set about half a year after the first, book 5 four years later.

This book had it all: romance, suspense, strong characters.
The hero was an alpha-male but the heroine no simpering damsel in distress but very strong and independent.
The villain is a surprise.

An author should be well versed in the English language, not only speaking it but also using the proper form in writing. That includes the correct use of tense, i.g. if the novel is written in past tense action from the past must be referred to in past perfect: he knew Mr. X had left the house ten minutes ago. The same applies to orthography and interpunction. Maybe all these mistakes catch the eye of second-language speakers more because we have learnt the foreign language more by grammer rules and less by speaking.
This author could use a good editor or proof reader because all of the afore mentioned points apply.

Another annoying part are the inconsistencies about the brothers’ degree of relationship and the timeline concerning wife number 4’s adultery and Logan’s stay in prison.

-Book 1 says: “ ..(Nathan) was the youngest of the four and had a different mother than the other three”. His mother was wife number 3 so I suppose the others were sons of wife number 1 or 2.
- In book 2 we learn: “ Logan had a different mother than Robert…”
- Nadia, the fourth wife had a fling ten years ago with the CEO of a software start-up which led to the immediate ruination of that company, insider trading and Logan’s conviction (book 3).
- But Logan has been in prison now for only seven years (book 2).

Careless Writing?

Book two of A Damaged Billionaire Series, "Reckless" is a romantic suspense. It has an entertaining plot premise that kept me guessing almost to the end about the identity of the bad guy. However, author Mallory Crowe is better at character development than she is at sentence structure. I was disappointed at her redundant and oftentimes clumsy phrasing, incorrectly used words and lackluster writing. Make sense of this sentence if you can: "He ran his hand up the back of her calf up to her knee and he pulled it up and over his shoulder." Huh? Here's run-on sentence to beat all: "It was one of those newer subdivisions where the houses were all close together and every third house looked exactly the same, and considering the drought going on, the suburb must be spending a fortune to keep the grass green as it was." That's a mouthful. Admittedly those are two of the more egregious examples but this is an author with numerous titles to her credit and as such, I would expect some evidence that a copy editor had at least skimmed it. Alas, it doesn't seem to be the case. The fact that numerous readers rated this book four and five stars didn't escape my notice but "I calls 'em like I sees 'em."

I have to say I loved this story. I read the first one in this series and it was good, but this one was great. Robert is rich and hard-headed. Malia is stubborn and has a really good reason to hate Robert and his entire family. This story is about being willing to really get to know someone and figure out who they are beneath the surface.

Malia encounters Robert on a beach in Hawaii where she lives and he's visiting. She kisses him before she knows who he is. Once she finds out she tries to avoid him but Robert tricks her into seeing him again by setting up a boat tour (she's a guide). Things roll from there when suddenly Robert is receiving threats against Malia. He can't just leave her to fend for herself, so he kidnaps her to protect her. Unlike other stories where the "victim" falls into her "kidnapper's" arms. Malia stands up for herself and lets him know it's not ok. Their relationship develops from there and suspense is added because you don't know where the threats are coming from. The ending was good and I'm ready for the next story in the series

Yet another great book

Yet another great book by Mallory Crowe in the Fractured Farrells series. Robert Farrell is the last person in the world that Malia Martin should get involved with let alone fall in love with but that is what happens and in so doing puts her life in danger. Well rounded characters, suspense and romance - what's not to love? Kudos to Mallory for including an epilogue, I do like to get a glimpse of characters I feel invested in, a year or so down the line! Shame there was so little description of Hawaii (a place I have never visited) nor the Farrell luxury resort.
This is a standalone book. Warning of strong language.
I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review, and I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed here is my own.

This book was good. It was an easy read for me and I didn't get tired of the plot line. I got this book for free on BookBub and it's the second one in a series called A DAMAGED BILLIONAIRE . And since I hadn't read the first one, I was just introduced to everyone in the series...but I will say. The sneak peek at the end of Remorseless (3rd book) got me sooo hooked I need to know what'll happen so I looked it up in Scribd and the whole series is there so trust me when I say I'll read them. Not sure when. But I will.

Really good book but I will say I didn't fall in love with Malia (main character) I just feel like se needs more depth but that's all. Over all, great book.

4 stars.

Thanks for reading,
Isa

This is the first book in the series I've read (and as far as I know the first book by this author). It doesn't really matter that I didn't read book 1. I can guess what it was about, but my lack of knowledge was never a problem reading this book. Although I generally read paranormal/sci fi romance, I do occasionally read some historical or contemporary. I picked this up because it was free and sounded interesting. I'm glad I did.

The book is generally well written and entertaining. Was it the most perfect writing I've ever come across? No. Still, it was reasonably good quality and I enjoyed reading it. Since the other books in the series are only 99p (at the time of writing this) and are of a decent length, I'm happy to pay that to read the rest of the Farrell stories.

They say never to judge a book by its cover and that certainly proved to be true with Reckless. Looking at the cover one would think that this was a romance, maybe even a bodice ripper, but I would never have expected to find an exciting mystery intertwined with the romance. Fortunately I like to explore all genres and discover new authors to add to my favorite author's list. Mallory Crowe has joined that growing list and I will be reading more of Mallory's work in the future. Much to my pleasant surprise this turned out to be a real page turner, one that I couldn't put down once I started reading it.

I loved this book it shows you that love can make you go to extremes to protect the love of your life when they are threatened . She had a hate for Robert because of who his dad was and the reputation that followed his dad added to the fact that Malia had been pretty homeless for the most part due to his dads way. She fought her attraction to him for those reasons , but love always wins out!! loved this book all the way through !! As always Mallory has never disappointed me with any of her books !

I loved this fast-paced, action-packed romance!

Robert and Malia have an extremely complicated story that's even more intense due to their unwavering chemistry and undeniable attraction to each other. Their relationship is quite a roller coaster ride, set against a backdrop of suspenseful intrigue. This story grabbed me right from the start and I couldn't put it down!

Their HEA is hard-won, but by that time we really understand how deep their connection goes and we can wholeheartedly believe in their love for each other. This is probably my favorite Mallory Crowe book.

Billionaire Becomes Humanistic

Moves along quickly... many times you want to smack Robert for his tendency to take everything into his own hands, and bend others to his will. Being from money, he is used to getting what he wants. Big surprise when Malia wants nothing to do with him. How can this be? Read on to see billionaire Robert wend his way through death threats, family messes, and love.
