A Home for Gori

Rate this book
In a deeply personal memoir, Habib Rehman captures the joy and anguish of loving and saying good-bye to Gori, his canine companion of many years. As a pup smuggled into their home by his wife, Rehman refuses to have anything to do with Gori. Not one to give up, she soon worms her way into his affections. For ten years, they are inseparable, going for walks, embarking upon adventures, sharing a pillow, talking on the phone when he travels out of town. As Gori reaches the end of her life, Rehman tenderly nurses her through her last illness. And when she passes away, he resolves to build a home that overlooks her grave, as a memorial to her. A Home for Gori will remind dog-lovers of the canine companions they have loved, and lost. To the rest, it will tell an extraordinary story of a dog and a human being, and a bond that endures, quite literally, beyond the grave.

A Simple book for a quick read.

May be, I expected a lot from this book. Naturally, being a dog lover I thought this tribute to his pet dog (Gori) by Habib Rehman would be more interesting containing many details that I did not know. But it was a simple retelling of emotions that transpire between the owner and his pet. It was neither very moving nor utterly boring. A one time read - a quick read.

Habib Rehman's moving tribute to his dog Gori. Brilliantly written... I'm not much of a dog-lover. Won't say it has converted me like the book claims, but can definitely understand why some people get so attached to their pets.

It is written out of pure love & attachment. Being a dog lover and having experienced the loss of a spitz in August 2019, I could visualise every narration. Though work narrative I could grasp, but the lengthy details into architecture of the home, at last, was not at all required. It kills the emotions built so far. Could have concluded in a far better way. Though the relationship is beautifully captured.

As a pet lover, I truly loved reading this book. It reminded me of the challenges we faced with our own pets. It shows how deeply pets connect with us even when we don’t fully realize it. Their loss teaches us valuable lessons about love and companionship.

I expected to read more about Gori than about ITC Journey

I expected to read more about Gori than about ITC Journey. Loved reading about her wherever there was a mention of her.
