James “Mac” Maccari’s career in the mafia is at a standstill. As the best solider in his Capo’s crew, all he wants is to be noticed enough to get Made in the Pivetti Crime Family. But instead, his Capo’s interests seem more focused on keeping his solider hidden from the boss, and every other Made man he can. Seemingly stuck right where he is with no chance of going up, Mac doesn’t know what will finally get him the attention he needs to earn his button. Until she shows up and all eyes are on them … Melina Morgan survives—that’s just what she does. She’s never been able to depend on anyone but herself to keep her safe and get things done. When a chance encounter puts her in a bad situation with the cops and the mafia, Melina has no choice but to put her faith in the hands of a man that not only infuriates her with his cocky arrogance, but catches her interest, too. Playing pretend in a fake relationship with Mac doesn’t seem all that terrible, until pretend turns real and bullets start to fly. A man is nothing without his woman … When the attention on Mac and Melina turns from bad to worse, and someone in the Pivetti Crime Family decides the couple needs to go, they know they’re fighting an uphill battle alone. But making it to the end alive means Mac could get what he’s always wanted, and Melina might find what she didn’t even know she needed. Together, they’ll make waves the mafia has no choice but to notice …

4.5 "their love will be stronger than the mafia rules" stars
A man is nothing without his woman...

Bethany- Kris never disappoints and now she has teamed up with Erin Ashley Tanner and they doubled the thrill.

They both gave us a strong, bold, brave heroine - Melina Morgan , she's a survivor. That’s just what she does. She’s independed, she knows what to do to keep her safe and get things done. And she's not afraid or reluctant to do it. And she doesn't trust anyone.
Trust on one and they'll never have the chance to disappoint you

So when things come to push and shove and she finds herself in a situation where she can't get herself out of on her own, she needs to put faith in the man, the type of man she would never rely on.
James “Mac” Maccari
He was arrogant and too cocksure.
He had a smart mouth.
But he was also sexy as hell.
Hazel eyes and brooding face.

A soldato that wants to be noticed enough to get Made in the Pivetti Crime Family, burdened with his own past (failer of a drunken father) he wants to make it beyond the name he's carrying. But it seems his Capo has hidden intrests and is keeping all Mac's work hidden from the „BIG BOSS“. But the chain of events will push both Mac and Melina in Pivetti's boss sight and it will force them to fake a relationship, to keep them both safe, Melina from the mafia and the police who suddenly have their own agenda and are stirring muddy waters.
Mac provides the necessary shelter to Melina by pretending to be in a realtionship.
There was something between her and Mac and it was dangerous.

Their animosity soon turns into the developed mutual interest and while they fight their attraction
Mac had unleashed something inside of her that she thought she'd never feel.
Want.
Lust.
Need.

Melina soon gives up her icy and bitchy posture and lets Mac in…and he takes over, he takes control to claim but also to make her safe, by making her his, he just takes layer after layer of her selfcontrol and high erected walls.
You see, you might like to be the queen bitch in the room, but I get the feeling that somewhere inside you, there's a woman who would die to have an assertive man take control.

the danger lingering above them turns serious and very real…and there's no time to dwell upon further action, action that will make them both united and noticable. Stronger. Bolder. Together.
And Melina just might prove to be that one turning point.
His GUN MOLL.
Melina was born to be a mobster's girl, even if she didn't know it. The woman could handle a gun, kept a calm head in bad situations, and wasn't afraid to get a little dirty.
That had „gun moll“ written all over it.

 photo gun20moll1A_zps7c7kufyq.jpg

Excellent writing, interesting plot and a fantastical build up between the characters guarantee a pleasant and enjoyable reading material.

and I still call

on "Mac".

Talking about being in the wrong place at the wrong time. No second chances. Do not pass go. If the cops don't want Melina Morgan in Jail then the mafia is out to kill her. Hells bells is ringing on her door. James “Mac” Maccari will stand in the line of fire, proving once and for all in order to get to her, they must go through him.

Melina folded her arms in the darkness. “What’s your point?” “Luca Pivetti hasn’t gotten to where he is by being stupid. He’s careful and runs a tight ship. No outsiders. And then here you are unleashing a firestorm, so he has to wonder exactly what your motives are,” Mac explained.

5 ' My gun moll' stars

I knew I'm gonna love whatever Bethany-Kris had in store for me. But when she teamed up with Erin Tanner and came out with Gun Moll, it totally blew my expectation out of proportion. Mac and Melina have just turned into one of my favorite mafia couple, because they are both totally badass together!

"She's dangerous. She's amazing. She's a mobster's girl, the unsuspecting lady with a gun hidden under her coat, and the only thing a man can trust to follow through. That, doll, is a gun moll."

James 'Mac' Maccari is just a foot soldier, low down in the food chain of the Pivetti Family. He is a hard worker, loyal to a fault, honorable and biding his time to be a made man. He is also one of the rare hero that had an affinity to talk much more than the heroine. Seriously, he can totally be a therapist or a life coach for his ability to always talk about his feelings and voice out his thoughts. I especially love his optimism in life, humor in a shitty situation and his heart that is full of love to give.

description

Melina Morgan is a ball buster of a heroine, a domineering woman who sneer at men and thought they are pigs. She had been working as an high end escort to support her ailing father. Living a seemingly unassuming life, her fate came an about turn when she visited a mobster owned club one day. From then on, she got harassed by cops and threaten by the mob. The poor woman can't catch a break and help came in the most unlikely circumstances when the cocky, arrogant gangbanger, Mac took her under his wing in order to protect her.

description

To say Mac and Melina's interaction was entertaining is a seriously understatement. They are like yin and yang. Mac is easy going, flirty and go with the flow kind of man, while Melina is always on the edge, independent and trust no one. Mac is like a dog with a bone, keep pushing her, while she tried her damnest not to succumb to his charm.

"You see, you might like to be the queen bitch in the room, but I get the feeling that somewhere inside you, there's a woman who would die to have an assertive man take control."

The best part of the book is their relationship that started of as a charade to everyone, but later on develop to something real and strong overtime. In fact, what I love most is that Mac is so honest about his feelings from the beginning and they spend about half the book as a real functioning couple, supporting and loving each other. I love that Mac never shy away from loving his woman and to see tough Melina unravel under his hand is a sight to behold.

"You're like ice to me. Crystal-clear, strong, and cold all over."

If wanting you is a flaw, it's one I'm damned-well happy to have."

description

On the mafia front, things get really heated when all focus was on Mac and Melina and someone out there putting a hit on them. Amidst the danger, Mac is still trying to be on the up and up and stay on the good side with his Capo and Don, with Melina acting as his back up and always looking out for him. Mac seems to keep getting fuck over by people higher in the food chain and I simply can't wait for him to finally get recognize for his talent and hard work.

I'm not sure how many books will there be for this series, but the plot was nicely wrapped up with a resolution. However, there is still an interesting cliffhanger that will keep me hooked and impatient for the next book. I can't wait to see what is in store for Mac and his gun moll, Melina next!

"Ti amo."
"Always, Mac."
"Tanto. Sempre, Melina."
"I don't know what that means."
"So much. Forever."

I struggled initially to get into this book and it actually took me three attempts before I got going. I suspect it was me I because once I got past the first couple of chapters there was just no stopping me.
The book opens with Melina Morgan standing over her father's casket, he was the only family she had and now he's gone she really is completely alone in the world.
Mac has family, his own and the Pivetti Crime Family. He's a soldier probably the best they've got but he desperately wants to get Made in fact it just about all he wants.
Both Mac and Melina have their own problems and neither are looking for a partner but there's something there from the second they meet plus fate lends a hand.
Melina doesn't trust anyone but Mac just gets her, completely he knows what she needs and how to handle her and she's never come across that before.
Once I'd settled in I loved this book and was hoping to move straight onto the second one 'Gangster Moll' since I'd seen the reviews coming through but unfortunately it's not out for a few days yet.
I really liked the characters which helps. Mac is handsome, hot and a total gentleman, Melina is a fabulous female character, strong, beautiful, intelligent and independent. It had some interesting secondary characters as well and the whole thing kept me reading.
What didn't I like initially?
Basically it was mainly the fact that she was an escort, I just didn't want that to be her job, no idea why I just wasn't feeling it at the time but as I read on it didn't matter the characters and the story took over.

4.5 Doll STARS

It’s a man’s world. Truer words were never spoken than when talking about La Cosa Nostra. Women are merely pawns or commodities to be used as bargaining chips or toys and then discarded as one pleases.

Melina Morgan is discounted because she’s the fairer sex. But that would be someone’s first mistake, because she’s a force and not to be messed with. She’s a real Gun Moll.

“She’s the one that no one ever expects. She’s the pretty face in the corner that everyone overlooks. She smiles and bats her lashes, but when you turn your back, she’ll cut your fucking heart out from behind. She’s dangerous. She’s amazing. She’s a mobster’s girl, the unsuspecting lady with a gun hidden under her coat, and the only thing a man can trust to follow through.”

James ‘Mac’ Maccari is a good soldato with aspirations of getting his button; becoming a made man.

What he didn’t count on is Melina. Life or death circumstances may have brought these two together but it’s their magnetic attraction and growing affection that keeps them together.

 photo GunMoll_zpsnlidobfh.jpg

Mac and Melina are both stand out characters and I couldn’t get enough of either of them. Melina's the epitome of strong, independent and sassy. She’s the kind of woman that men take notice of, she’s hard to miss.

Mac's dominant but while he lives in a dark and dangerous world, he’s a special kind of man. He knows how to treat a woman. And if you’re lucky enough to be his woman, you’ll be respected and adored.

"If a man cares enough, worshipping his woman should be the simplest, easiest, and most obvious thing for him to do every day, doll. She should be the most important thing on his mind. The first and last thing he considers every day and night.”

Together these two are quite the pair and while things aren’t easy for them. They make it sexy, sweet and memorable.

This ends on a cliffy that has both Melina and Mac in a precarious situation. I want book 2 now.

I highly recommend this first-time collaboration between Bethany and Erin. If you love Mafia stories, formidable heroines and unforgettable heroes, this is a MUST read!

Bethany-Kris has written some of the best mafia romance books I've ever read. This book, written with Erin Ashley Tanner, is one of her best yet!! I could tell right from the start that this book would be the start of an incredible series.

Gun Moll is primarily about James "Mac" Maccari, a soldier of the Pivetti Crime Family. He's overworked, underpaid, and unappreciated. He meets Melina, an escort that doesn't have sex for money. Together, they get Mac noticed (through some unorthodox means) by the Boss, find a saboteur, shoot some guns, evade the police, have tons of scorchingly hot sex (so fcking hot), and fall in love. Obviously there's a lot more to this story, but you've got to read it to find out.

Although Melina was likable for the most part, my fave character was Mac. He was so fcking beautiful, inside and out. He was honest, honorable, respectful, hardworking, ambitious, considerate, and so freaking loving. The world really needs more men like Mac. No Joke!!

I docked .5 of a star because Melina's attitude got on my fcking nerves sometimes. She needed to slow her damn roll. Overall, this was an amazing story (mostly due to Mac, of course) and with that ending, I cannot wait to dive into Gangster Moll!!

I never even thought that one day I will write review like this, but I suppose you should never say never.
Here comes my confession.

''Dear Bethany-Kris,
You know that I love your books. I love ''Filthy Marcellos'', ''The Chicago War'' and ''The Russian Guns''. I just can't choose my favourite one from them. They are all special and one of the best mafios books ever. And then comes ''Gun Moll''. And I can't believe what I am reading. I though that your other series were amazing, but this is ten times better.
There are some sentences, some simple words, but so strong emotion. That sentences, that feelings, BROKE ME DOWN.
I know that great books do exist. They are rare. But this one is definitely part of them.
So I am sorry to say, but it looks like ''Filthy Marcellos'' didn't show even half of your talent.
Women, you are amazing.''

''She mattered.
They didn’t.''

Now, this great, great, great book wasn't done by Bethany-Kris alone. It was co-written with Erin Ashley Tanner. This is first time that I heard about this author, but I was interested and wanted to see what other books this author wrote. I want to read her book Goddess of Legend, but right now my wallet is even more broke then me, so that will have to wait.

''Gun Moll'' does have so strong and confident characters, that I must say I am proud because I read about them.
And now officially? James “Mac” Maccari - H in this book- is my perfect man. Simple as that. He is smart, sexy, dangerous, funny. But his behaving with h is what really got me.

“If I was your girl, then what would you do, Mac?”...
“I would spoil you rotten,” Mac said, shooting her a look through his hair that had fallen down over his gaze. “Whatever you wanted, whether you needed it or not, I would make it happen. I’d make damn sure you felt as beautiful as you looked, regardless of what you needed to feel that way. I’d take you out every chance I could, just to show you off to the people who can’t have you because you’re all mine. But I’d have my fucking hands on you all night, so that they’d know to stay away. It’d probably feel like my fingerprints were burned into your skin because I’d be holding you that tight.”
Melina’s tongue peeked out to wet her bottom lip. “What else?”
“I’d always keep an eye on you, even if you didn’t know I was doing it, just to make sure you were good and safe. I’d wake you up in the morning, every single morning, with my hands all over you and my mouth kissing all the spots I could find. I’d make sure that whenever you were stressed out, or something was on your mind—bothering you—that you could take some time away from life and the world to be just you again. Simple stuff, you know.”

Melina Morgan is right part for Mac. They are like perfect puzzle piece. Beautiful characters inside and out.

I can't even imagine them with any other characters.

''Melina was his.
Mac decided.
Simple as that.''

I loved that we don't need to wait for Melina and Mac real relationship. I loved that they don't carry too much bagage from the past. I loved how they were together. I loved how Melina could be trigger-easy. I loved respect that Mac has for Melina.
I loved how I don't even need to think what I will write in review, because words are just getting out for me.

But do you know what I don't like at all? I don't like (hate!) that I can't read part 2 of this series after that end!! I don't like that at all.

“If you ever scare me like that again, I’ll have your balls. Do you understand me?”
“You already own them and my heart, too.”
“Good answer, Maccari.”

Before reading:
Bethany-Kris has new book! I am so happy!!!!!
''Together, they’ll make waves the mafia has no choice but to notice …''
Can you give this to me now??

What an emotional roller coaster. I was constantly on the edge while reading the last 30% of the book biting my nails and praying for them. Imagine my surprise when I came to the page and my kindle refused to go to the next one. The first book was over. I literally wanted to throw my kindle at the wall.

As with all other Bethany-Kris works, I loved this book. It was unusual in its own way. First of all, it is the first book written with a co-author Erin Ashley Tanner. And what cooperation it is! And, secondly, her each story is unique and catching.

" A man is nothing without a good woman by his side."

Gun moll is a story of Mac Maccarri and Melani Morgan. Met at a strange time and place in their lives, they click immediately. Despite рaving their baggage ( an escort and a soldato) , they are perfect for each other. One compliments another. She is a perfect Gun moll for him.

"She is the one that no one ever expects. She's the pretty face in the corner that everyone overlooks. She smiles and bats her lashes, but when you turn your back, she'll cut your heart out from behind. She's a mobster's girl, the unsuspecting lady with a gun..."

It's not easy for them to be together. In Mac's world appearance and duty is everything. A man is nothing without it and his word. But he is ready to sacrifice it all for Melina, because she is worth it.

"What are you?" - "I am the man my mother raised."

Mac is a strong, well-mannered individual. He is cold with his enemies but becomes a softie for the woman he loves. He was raised by the best and knows how to treat your special one.

Melina is a real badass sassy girl. Getting used to rely only on herself, she doesn't want to lower her walls but she is willing to give Mac a chance.

Together they become noticed. Together they make waves and together they will fight.

I'm so glad that Bethany-Kris and Erin Ashley Tanner made decided to create this series together. Desperately looking forward to book 2 because, honestly, once you meet Mac, you won't be willing to let him go. ;)

I don't like mafia romances.

I don't like them because most writers gloss over the ugly, violent side of the life. They don't show the victims of the business - the addicts, the prostitutes, the little people paying money to extortioners. I especially hate how writers make the heroines of these books out to be these sweet, virginal ingenues who have no clue how the hero makes his money, nor do they seem inclined to ask. Even when bullets are flying and bodies popping up all over the place, they're written as clueless Pollyannas.

In such a world, only alpha bitches survive. Ingenues get eaten.

So imagine my surprise reading my second mob-themed romance in ages (my first was Dmitry's Closet which pretty much turned my off to the entire subgenre, for many reasons).

While there were lots of things I liked overall, my biggest fear was that the heroine Melina Morgan would start off kick ass then end up hijacked after some sexing up by the hero.

I hate that.

I'm still feeling all over the place in that regard. I loved Melina with an edge. I loved her take no prisoners and no shit attitude. I loved her survival and fearlessness. I loved how she accepted her sexuality. I loved that she was good with a gun. That she was loyal. That she was willing to learn the ropes and adjust to a new reality.

I'm just not feeling the love thing.

The way both characters changed just didn't feel natural. They were better together and more interesting when hackles are raised and they're fighting the attraction while giving into it at the same time.

That brings me to Mac.

He didn't stand out for me in any way. He's a mobster. He's one of the "good guys" as far as this world goes. He's not the fabulously wealthy suave mafioso. He's more grunt, blue-collar working his way up the ranks. He loves his mother and his sister. He "protects" his woman. He has daddy issues. He's great in bed.

In retrospect (and after having my morning vanilla latte) Mac was the typical alpha male without the asshatery that makes me absolutely hate many of today's versions of the character. He had some good qualities, but overall he kind of left me feeling meh.

One thing that really irked me was Mac calling Melina "doll". For one thing it's an anachronism far more suited to a 1920's setting than contemporary. For another, he showed no respect for Melina when she told him over and over that she didn't like it. Instead of respecting her wishes, he just kept doing it and somehow she "grows" to accept it. A good alpha male respects the woman he loves. I didn't see that here, and it matters.

As a couple, they were good together and they had each other's backs. Yet something just didn't click with me in regards to their relationship. There wasn't that oomph that made me care enough about it. Maybe that's due to the fact this is a trilogy.

Which ended on a cliffhanger. I HATE cliffhangers.

I'm taking another star away for the annoying number of times the authors mentioned Melina's "caramel colored" skin tone. And yes, it was annoying. The hair thing was annoying. I don't mind that it was long, but seriously where's the maintenance? Not a single mention of shea butter or a silk bonnet? A flat iron?

I did like the three other women in Mac's life - his mother, his sister, and the wife of the big boss (who's also Black). They were no-nonsense and obviously loyal to him and by extension, to Melina.

I haven't decided whether I want to read the next book. I'm curious, but we'll see. One thing for sure, as well written as Gun Moll is, it still hasn't changed my mind in regards to mob romances. I don't think there's one yet that could.

Maybe if there was one set in Swinging Sixties London. I'm kind of partial to The Krays and The Richardsons. And I loved Essex Boys (because of Sean Bean). Hmm. At least it would be different. I'm way past done with Italian and Russian mobsters. Can't the Yakuza or the Triads get some love?

"Mac didn't fight for any of that. Nor for approval, validation, or release. No, he fought to win. He fought for money and nothing more."
description

Melina Morgan is a twenty-five year-old public relations extraordinaire/ courtesan who is grieving the loss of a cherished loved one at the opening of this story. With no true friends, and even less of a connection with her remaining family members, she feels the rawness and the grit of life attempting to strangle her soul. While fighting this harsh bite of reality, she has a chance encounter with an intriguing stranger, one who piques her curiosity unlike any other man she's ever met. Too soon they meet again, and her life takes an unexpected turn.

James Maccari is a soldier for the Pivetti Cosa Nostra. He's imbedded neck-deep in the mafia lifestyle and at twenty-six years old, he's amongst the lowest on the totem pole, but determined to change that status. When he sets his eyes on a gorgeous woman one evening, he lets his cockiness take front and center, not anticipating that their lives will forever be entangled.

While Maccari climbs the mafia ladder to succession, Melina makes one small mistake, forcing Mac to follow orders from his Don that he can barely comply with.

A judgement is made. It's swift and punishing. The lovers are out of luck and out of time. A new chapter begins...

***** 3.5 Stars *****

"She's a mobster's girl, the unsuspecting lady with a gun hidden under her coat, and the only thing a man can trust to follow through. That, doll, is a gun moll."

Gun moll is unique because Mac isn't a 'made' man. As one of the best soldiers in la famiglia, he works hard to earn his button. Mac is strong, confident, and a sometimes a bit arrogant. He also talks a lot. Always trying to explain to Melina what he thinks she's thinking.

description

Melina is a high class escort with a big attitude. She has no family. She has no close friends. So when Mac enters her life, she's scared about all the new feelings in her heart. She's also very insecure about herself.

Although I found the story a bit repetitive, there were some good steamy and erotic moments. I'm definitely interested in where the story will go.

This was a great read. I loved it all.... The romance, the action, the mystery of who to trust, the dynamics within Cosa Nostra.

First, I'll address all that is right in a man, aka Mac.
 photo man_zpsloqdbtb2.gif
He was dominant, sexy, ambitious, but most importantly, a gentleman who knew how to treat a lady. His mama raised him right. He said how he felt whether with Melina or the Family.

Now to Melina. I absolutely loved her.
 photo like_zpsnxrulwki.gif
She ain't take no s**t. She was witty and tough. But I loved that she let herself be vulnerable with Mac and let him defrost her heart a little... Just enough for him to fit.

Their sex scenes...
 photo breathe_zps0hxnk8ot.gif
So freaking hot. 3 words..... That.Shower.Scene.
Panty change..... Check.

Then the ending. The ENDING.

Totally unexpected. I was expecting some type of drama to lead into book 2, but not what actually happened. I was like wth is going on right now?
Can't wait for book 2.

I'm not sure how to really rate this since the story isn't over. It ends on a cliffhanger. One that leaves the story with NO resolution. Since this is a fairly long book, not sure why this had to be continued.... whatever.

That said, this was pretty good. I typically don't read mafia books but I was attracted to this one because the title. I liked the idea of the heroine not being some naif who is swept off her feet by money and male charisma. There is a little bit of that, but Melina is that chick -- that ride or die -- who handles her own gun and is on the tough side. Also, Mac isn't some slick suited mobster. Even in a mob story I like 'em a little blue collar. And Mac is certainly that, he's a foot soldier who is scrappily working his way up top.

But yeah... that cliffhanger. Not cool.

“She’s the one that no one ever expects. She’s the pretty face in the corner that everyone overlooks. She smiles and bats her lashes, but when you turn your back, she’ll cut your fucking heart out from behind. She’s dangerous. She’s amazing. She’s a mobster’s girl, the unsuspecting lady with a gun hidden under her coat, and the only thing a man can trust to follow through. That, doll, is a gun moll.”

I love reading mafia books. They just give a certain hype. They also remind me of when I used to watch The Godfather(My favourite mafia movie of all time) eoth my dad. I used to love the suspense of it, the different dynamics of characters, the action, the intrigue and the romance. Gun Moll truly reminds of the Godfather and that is why I loved this book so so much.

Gun Moll is about a woman named Melina, an escort who just buried her father. She has no one in her life and being an escort is her only way surviving. She meets Mac, a soldier in the Italian mob who wants to be Made in the mob. Melina goes at the wrong place and she gets heat from the police and the Mob. Mac propose they have a fake relationship but sometimes fake relationship turns real. Hell break lose and everyone starts to come after them. The storyline was just pure genius. Everything just fit perfectly. The action, the intrigue and drama in the story was gripped me in and I was so engrossed in the movie. I loved every single moment in this book.

Gun Moll told an awe inspiring story of survival. The story itself clicked snd it was due to the writing and the dialogue. The writing was so structured that made this book so easy to read. My eyes were glued to the book because everything flowed page by page. It had the right information and the writing felt lije obe writer was writing instead of two. There was true harmony to every single chapter. I was amazed by it.

The characters were so appealing and amazing to read. I loved that the writers gave us information about the characters. I loved the character development in this book. The characters were also unique and showed perfect and true chemistry. I loved Melina. She is the one who developed more in the book. She started out so closed off snd shut off and chapter by chapter I saw her walls down and I truly loved reading about. I felt for her and her story. Mac is amazing. A strong, dirty talking and charming alpha male who turned me into mush. Together they were the perfect couple and the perfect contrast.

Gun Moll is part one in the Gun Moll series and I cant wait for the next chapter.

What a nice difference this was in terms of mafia books. This time it wasn't the mafia princess falling in love. Melina was badass heroine who could shoot, kickass, and take names with the best of them. Mac was great. He was so flirty and loyal, and all he wanted was to be a made man. They were perfect compliment to each other.

I was completely enthralled by the rags-to-riches story of Mac & Melina, don't get me wrong I love reading about mafia princes & principessas but it was so refreshing to have a different style mafia story from Bethany-Kris.

I also love a bad ass heroine, which Melina completely was!! She was made for the lifestyle and completely held her own which I love to read about and was a nice switch up from the usual mafia principessas who are there to look pretty and play their part.

Love love loveeed go read it now!!! Can't wait for the next one!!!!!!!

Loved it! Mac is absolutely the hero I love reading about, he loves with everything he is and makes sure Milena knows that. He was all in and never waivered.

Great twists and turns that have me itching to move straight on to book 2.

Oh My GAWD! This book is absolutely FABULOUS!! I love Mac and Melina!

This story is not the typical Mafia book. In most Mafia stories the male character is "made", already high on the food chain. Mac is a soldier. It's totally awesome to read about how these men scrimp and scratch to pay their dues to their Capo. It's totally refreshing to understand how the process of becoming made from the ground up.

Mac and Melina meet under unusual circumstances and the timing sucks. But who said love is fair? Fate is a fickle heffa and she doesn't ask permission or wait on anyone. While Mac is working his way from the ground up to become a made man, he's forced to become responsible for one more person, Melina. Mac is in for a rude awakening because Melina can outshoot and kick anyone's ass who talks out the face sideways!

Things are not easy for the duo but this thing between them is worth the hell they go through! Someone is out to end the two....or should I say several people on BOTH sides of the law are out to bring down this duo!

This story is a great start to this series! It's dark, dirty, gritty, and is everything Mafia! The ending is gonna blown your mind! Definitely a WTF moment!

Five stars because Mac and Melina are ride or die!

Excerpt

“A good man always takes care of his girl,” Mac said quietly.
Melina’s eyes opened again at those words. “But I’m not really your girl, Mac.”
“So? I should still take care of you.”
“What if I was?”
“My girl?” Mac asked.
“Yes.”
Mac cocked a brow, eyeing Melina as she grabbed a loofa off the ledge of the tub and began dropping dollops of milky colored body wash onto the frilly cloth. “I don’t understand what you’re asking.”
Melina drew the loofa over her arms, covering her slick skin in white suds. “If I was your girl, then what would you do, Mac?”
Ah.
Mac smiled, leaned forward, and snatched the loofa from Melina’s hand. He ignored her quiet ‘hey’ and started running the loofa up and down her legs with smooth, long strokes.
“Mac, I asked you a question,” Melina said.
I’d take you out every chance I could just to show you off to the people who can’t have you because you’re all mine. But I’d have my fucking hands on you all night so that they knew to stay away.
I’d make sure that whenever you were stressed out, or something was on your mind, bothering you, that you could take some time away from life and the world to be just you again. Simple stuff, you know.”
“Simple.” Melina scoffed. “Right. That sounds more like worshipping, Mac.”
Mac didn’t see the difference. “If a man cares enough, worshipping his woman should be the simplest, easiest, and most obvious thing for him to do every day, doll. She should be the most important thing on his mind. The first and last thing he considers every day and night.”
Melina’s gaze flitted from Mac’s face and then down to the bubbly water. “Oh.”
Oddly, it bothered Mac like nothing else that he could tell Melina had never been given the pleasure of having a man treasure her like she should be treasured. No one had every loved her enough to worship the very ground she walked on, or had seen her for the beautiful gift she truly was.
It nagged in his chest.
Poked at him like a needle.
Over and over.
Like a damned tattoo was being penned permanently to his skin, reminding him that Melina deserved someone who would treasure and treat her the way she should be cared for. Didn’t he have enough going on where this girl was concerned without adding something like that to the pile as well?
Mac sighed, shaking off the strange feeling. “I suppose it doesn’t matter, anyway.”
Melina sucked in a quiet breath before asking, “Why not?”
“You’re not mine, doll. Or at least, you don’t want to be.”
Melina didn’t respond, but she wouldn’t meet Mac’s eyes again.
He continued washing her stress away.

I don't know what about this book I'm most insulted by: the fact that it honestly believes it's a mafia book or that it dares to call itself a romance. I had high hopes for it--I love Italian mafia-related content, and gangster romances are honestly so hard to come by because none of them I've read are any good.

And now Gun Moll can be added to that sad little pile of disappointments.

Truth be told, I had problems from the beginning. I actually had to start this book over after putting it down for a long time before I finally buckled down and finished it with grim determination. The writing was awful, both from a grammatical/mechanical standpoint (where was the editor at with all those commas?) and also from a storytelling standpoint. For a book supposedly handling mobsters and explicit sex, the diction, sentence structure, and characters were all juvenile. At no point was I ever able to take anything seriously, especially with the two main characters.

Let's actually talk about them, shall we? Especially since they're the only characters that even matter. Everyone else was a caricature. First up is Melina Morgan, who works as an escort to pay off her veteran father's medical bills but also now his funeral bills. She's the typical "hard-ass bitch" trope who naturally has no friends or family and who doesn't open up to anybody because she doesn't want to get hurt. Oh, also, she's so good as an escort that she never has to make money by having sex with her clients. Even the ones who push or get handsy with her stop once she gives them her hard, no-bullshit attitude. #SureJan But none of that even matters because once she meets James "Mac" Maccari, most of her so-called grit goes out the window along with the majority of her agency.

But oh, what to say about Mac... First of all, you almost couldn't have picked a less sexy name to call him, but I understand that the stereotypical Italian names (Luca, Anthony, Enzo, Guido, etc.) were already taken by other characters who barely mattered. But I guess it's a moot point because there was nothing attractive about Mac at all. His arrogance was the kind that is just annoying to read. From the moment he spent two pages mansplaining to Melina why him calling her "doll" wasn't degrading despite all the evidence otherwise, I was done with him. (And what really sucks is, I love degrading pet names. I love "doll," but this book's treatment of it and its severe overuse just put me to sleep).

Otherwise, Mac was completely boring. He's not a made man in the mafia yet, but of course, we never see him doing anything mafia-related. We hear about it a lot, we kinda see the business he runs for his boss on the fringes, but nothing about the jobs themselves are focused on. There are no details. Mac never does anything inherently "bad" or gets his hands dirty, which tells me all I need to know about the two writers of this book and their grasp of what it means to be in the mafia. They don't understand it beyond Google, they don't want to harp on what Mac actually does to bring any kind of conflict to this apparently perfect relationship they're contriving between their two leads, and they definitely don't want Mac to be a bad guy. Using the mafia as the backdrop of the story was literally just that: a poorly-painted backdrop to give Mac whatever bad boy and dangerous angle they could without any kind of substance behind it. He's just a sort-of dom and a dirty-talker in the bedroom, and that's it.

So sadly, I couldn't root for either of our would-be leads. Neither Melina nor Mac did anything for me. Every time they were on the page together, which was almost the entire book, was agonizing to read because their banter was so bad. Nothing about their dialogue was interesting or compelling. There was no mystery behind their feelings or actions because everything was out in the open all the time, which isn't how people work. Their romance happened because the writers were hellbent and determined for it to happen, not because it was natural. Their insta-lust turned into insta-love, and there was no spark or intrigue surrounding it. There was never any doubt for me how this would go, and that kind of predictability in a romance book is a complete mood killer.

And the sex scenes were far, far too many with no impact or appeal to them at all, and they were usually incredibly poorly timed. I guess if you like reading explicitly-detailed sex a lá "his cock filled her, and he felt the walls of her sex contract around him, and she was so beautiful. The sight of his dick inside her sex drove him crazy," then, yeah, you might get something out of this. As for me, sensuality goes a much longer way, and there was nothing sensual about the sex scenes in both actions and writing language. In fact, the amount of times Mac just jack-hammered into Melina made me think the authors must've watched a lot of porn before writing this book, thinking that's what good sex is. Listen, rough sex is great, but there's more to it than that.

The best way I can describe my overall issue with this book, from the characters, to the plot, to the romance is that it's all shallow. I don't have a good time with books like that in general, but again, if it's mafia-related, then I expect there to be depth and grit, not...whatever this was.

"Playing pretend is a pretty serious game." "Good thing you're the kind of woman who doesn't seem to like to lose, doll."

Gun Moll is about Mac and Melina from New York so this one is a story based on the New York Cosa Nostra. Two individuals from completely opposite sides are entangled in a string of complications that leads to a scorching romance between Mac and Melina who is affectionately called doll by Mac. While I like the writing of Bethany Kris I wasn't surprised by the difference in style presented by her co-author Erin Ashley Tanner. I liked that the heroine though not from the Mafia background was a tough chick due to the influence from her father and Mac also was also a part of the Mafia but with no or little recognition in their organization and this part was very well portrayed not that I am an expert or anything on the matter just by my experience reading these types of genre.

"I am not sure of anything." Mac chuckled. "Because of me?"
" Don't flatter yourself."
"Too late."

I like the characters that they were different in their own way from the Mafia Don to the their lowest employees like slaves each with their own predicament and hold their own place in the story. There will be several characters presented in parts from the fellow soldiers to the Capos handling them and superiors above them. I also enjoyed the way the way Mac and his doll were actually culturally different and much emphasized was given on their different skin colors, this part was mentioned a lot in the book that I have the feeling social discrimination is very much prevalent in today's culture and maybe it is a way the authors would like to put their thoughts out there. I also noticed there were several light moments in the book which provided the much needed humor in the book.

Women tend to hold the power, after all. Men simply thought they did.

This book has a lot of feminism in it as you will see Melina or doll affectionately referred as Mac is shown throughout her life fighting and surviving in this world with the hardship that she was in and Mac was also shown as someone who has great respect towards woman especially his mom and sister. Now Melina also learned self-defense, shoots guns, can speak her mind, independent, and bold and also was assigned a rather controversial career by the authors. I am happy they made emphasis on her character like a lot in the book. I will explain the a lot in a the next paragraph of the review.

"…it's entirely true and whatever it was that happened is so shocking, people don't trust that anyone will believe them, regardless if they are being honest or not."

I really liked the book but it just wasn't cut out for me, the content was repeated too much, like I mentioned before that they referred to certain things like a lot but sometimes I believe powerful words are much more important than the point to it out in every other chapter in the book. It bored me, frankly since this is the first and mostly introduction is being made of the characters, situations and from where the story will pick up or carry on the next book. Strong scenes also lacked in the book like some shooting scenes which I find rather questionable as to why Melina used her abilities and not Mac since he had the weapon he is after all a Mafia soldier after all. It is mind boggling sometimes common sense demands further explanation. I didn't really get the way Mac handled his and Melina's situation like the confrontation shown was like absurd.

"Love makes you vulnerable. It's why I've always fought against it."

This book is a page turner but since a lot of characters are being introduced in this first part of the book, I will put much trust in the next book to bring forth the story I am waiting for which I believe is an intriguing web created by the circumstances both Mac and Melina are thrown in the last part of the book. Overall, this book is full with everything Mafia related and how the story is shaped around an innocent citizen such as Melina pulled into the dark and sometimes sinister ways of the underworld. I have hope in my heart that they will be a power couple in pulling the right shots in their next novel in their series keeping my fingers crossed, and always remember to fight for your love not obsession!!!

She'd always been a rebel and there was no need now to do anything differently.
