Ally and Charlotte Sweet are catering dessert for a cocktail party hosted by the Mayor and Deputy Mayor. The party is swarming with the rich and powerful of the area. Ally and Charlotte’s primary concern is to bake delicious chocolate tarts so the reputation of ‘Charlotte’s Chocolate Heaven’ is upheld.
But when someone dies at the party everything is turned on its head. When foul play is discovered and it is suspected that the tarts might be to blame Ally and Charlotte, with the help of Ally’s cat, Peaches, and Charlotte’s pot-bellied pig, Arnold, do everything they can to find out who the murderer is. Their investigations antagonize the wrong people and not only jeopardize the future of the shop, but their safety as well.
Will Ally and Charlotte find the murderer before there is another victim? Or will their investigation lead them down a dangerous path with no way to turn back?

Luscious Pastry at a Lethal Party is book 5 in the Chocolate Centered Cozy Mystery Series. The main mystery is solved in each book, but the series is best enjoyed when read in order.
Ally is at it again. She finds herself in the middle of a murder investigation and just needs to know who did it. Ally will bribe her way out of by chocolate. I enjoy the series but Ally is getting on my nerves. She is reckless and gets herself in danger and doesn't think about what can happen. For someone who wants to solve murders she has no issue breaking the law.
Unfortunately, Ally appears to get dumber with each book. She thought she could break into the Mayor’s office and there would be no cameras? She needs to smarten up for me to continue to read this series.
I find this book a good read, much in line with the previous books in this series However, it would be more fun if it had another spin rather than Ally being the same curious person who ultimately becomes rescued by Luke. I. The spirit of continuing these book series, I may be surprised and see a different turn in events.
I love this series and I have read every book in it. I suggest if you have not read any of this series, that you begin with the first book of the series and read them in chronological order. The main characters are Allie Sweet and her grandmother Charlotte Sweet who owns a chocolate bakery called Charlotte's Chocolate Heaven. Allie has an orange/yellow cat named Peaches and Charlotte has a pig named Arnold, who winds up staying with Allie when her grandmother moves into a retirement home. These two animals are quite adorable and add a lot to the storyline, and in several books winds up saving Allie and Charlotte's lives. I would recommend these books to everybody, young and old. They are clean cozy mysteries with memorable characters.
Part of me hates myself for continuing to read these. Ally makes me so angry. She was better in book four, but now we are right back to her having this inane drive for justice while endangering herself, endangering Mee Maw, and breaking a ton of rules/laws in the process. But it's all fine as long as she figures out who the murderr is. It doesn't matter if all of her tactics would actually endanger any kind of real court case and probably actually help the murderer. In book four, Luke was able to help reason with her, but with him conveniently out of town, we are back to bad reasoning and serious lapses in judgment. The story overall isn't bad, I think if it wasn't for Mee Mae and Arnold I would have quit reading.
I've never given any of Cindy's books, only three stars. Although, the mystery did keep me guessing, I was about to throw my kindle against the wall! As I thought about it, I realised it wasn't my kindles fault. Ally never listens to anyone's advice. Then wham! She comes so close to be killed. When someone comes to help, their life is in jeopardy too. She does it in every story! Is she an adult!!?? She doesn't act like it!! Usually it doesn't bother me much. Wow! This one was over the top!
Another party, another death and another chance for Ally to stick her nose where it isn't wanted. I do love the Chocolate Centered mysteries, but why Ally would keep putting herself in danger instead of passing what she learns to tghs police, is bsyond me, especially when she has so much chocolate to live for.
Our chocolatiers are catering at a special event with the mayor himself. While there they just observe what seems to be a little hanky lanky among the married and well established.
This time, it is a poisoned glass that kills the deputy mayor. And there are plenty of suspects. With her cop friend away training, our protagonist goes out of her way to be irritating and irresponsible.
I enjoyed this story of adventure, the author has done a great job of telling her story about a mysterious death. The author has done a good job of putting it together.
This was an exciting book. I couldn’t put it down! It amazes me what danger Ally gets herself into, but she always learns the truth. I can’t wait to read the next book. Thanks for a great series!!!
I really enjoy Cindy Bells Chocolate series of books. Easy read , Love Me Maw! Peaches & Arnold are fun too with their antics. Only down side is it makes you want chocolate while you read.
Ally and Charlotte provide tarts for the banquet, the deputy mayor starts to gives a toast, she dies from poison. As usual Ally wants to investigate. She is reckless this time. Luke is out of town.
With her cop boyfriend away on training, Ally finds herself once more wrapped up in a murder investigation and her chocolate shop closed while the investigation progresses. I found the motivation behind the reason she investigates the murder to be weaker than the other books but the mystery was enjoyable.
I enjoyed reading this book very much. The author is very talented. She makes the storyline and the characters enjoyable. I would recommend it to anyone.
We have a murder, poison, a nosey photographer, yummy chocolate tarts, and Luke away from home. Will our sleuths make it another day to make more chocolates?
