In the eleventh book in The Notebook of Doom series, Sneeze of the OctoSchnozz the gang is suddenly dealing with a monster without the Notebook of Doom to assist them!
{My thoughts} – Things don’t always go as Alexander and his friends think. In this book they are invited to Dottie’s birthday party. While they are there she is acting very strange. By strange I mean, it’s like she’d never seen a monster before. She tells them that she’s okay playing the game with them usually, but they are at her party and she more or less wants to golf. After all that is the real reason they are there, not to monster hunt.
The monster they are chasing today is different. It is strange and it loves foul smelling things. They also learn that it has the ability to sort of shape shift like some of the previous monsters they have had to deal with in the past. Alexander isn’t sure what to make of the events that unfolded and neither are his two best friends. All they know is that they will go another night and then hunt monsters again the next day.
I look forward to reading the next book in this series very soon.
This book starts out with Alexander spotting slimy piles of snot on the floor, then he starts seeing a bunch of noses everywhere. He meets the monster at Dottie's (another member of S.S.M.P.)birthday party the monster turned out to be an octo-schnozz. Even more surprisingly, Dottie actually can't see monsters!
Not remotely scary. And sometimes that’s exactly what kids need. Many of the characters (Alexander’s father comes right to mind) and pictures are goofy, but pleasantly so. Actually, the monsters are kind of cute. These books would be fun even as read-alouds.
So, a while ago, me and my dad went to Barns and Nobles. I randomly came across this series. I picked the funniest, weirdest, most random one, and it happened to be this one. I read 2,000 times... OK, not literally. But, since then, only now has anyone else in my family read it even though it's so good....
Hilarious, cute, TWISTS IS THIS SERIES'S MIDDLE NAME.
A fun book like all the rest but both me and my 7 year old were confused by some of it, especially the ending which doesn't seem to cover much. What happened to Dottie? What's up with Rip? What's up with the cupcakes? Weird ending and very abrupt!
Well, we made it 11 books without any boogers or snot. Couldn't have lasted forever I suppose. Not a fan of nose monsters or bodily function humor myself, but my 6 year old son thought it was hilarious.
Xavier loved it. This one definitely ends in a cliffhanger with lots of unresolved plot lines... The last one comes out in June. I'm sure we will do rereads prior.
A is checking these books out at his school library (CCE - 2nd grade - age 7) Mom and Dad are having fun reading these books aloud to A. We all enjoy them. They are silly and fun.
It was weird when, instead of hitting him the Octo-schnozz sneezed on him! A lot of snot came out when he sneezed and Alexander was in a puddle of snot!

The SSMP is now without their notebook and there's evidence of a new monster in town. Can they figure out what's making the garbage disappear and leaving strange holes and green piles of slime around town? Also, what's up with Rip? And Dottie for that matter?
This was one of the SSMP's grosser adventures. (The green slime turns out to be snot from the octo-shnozz monster.) Ewww!! And poor Alexander stuck doing workbooks all day with Ms. Vanderpants as his one-on-one teacher. I am still curious to find out what's up with Dottie. She seemed on board to become an SSMP member in the last book, but in this one she is clueless as to the monster. Rip's adventure in this was a bit of a surprise but it does explain Rip's behavior a little better. So don't skip this one because there is some important info for the longer plotline, but be warned there's a lot of snot involved.
Notes on content: No language issues or sexual content. One monster explosion that's not gory. Some grossness with snot.
Mama says: Eleanor would rate it five stars, I am giving it four because I hate things that are having to do with boogers and snot and it makes me want to throw up.
Eleanor says: I love this book! Unlike my mom I like disgusting stuff. It makes me giggle.
