(I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review from the author)

Reborn is a high fantasy book, including many magical elements. (Like unicorns!). It follows a large set of characters, and over a long period of time.

I must admit I had trouble getting into this book. Mainly because of the POV switch, and not because it was confusing, but because one of my biggest pet peeves in books are time jumps. (Sorry D:) But once I got a hang of it, I did enjoy it. I enjoyed the characters, and I especially enjoyed the intricate world that Tesli have created. And I don't think I've ever read a book with unicorns, that was especially magical.

Another aspect I did like was the names of some of the characters. This is written by a Norwegian author, and I like how many of the names are kind of Norwegian. (Like Thorleif.) That was fun, you don't see many Norwegian names in high fantasy books. (Not those I've read anyway.)

I also did have some problems with the language, mainly because of the overuse of the words "however" and "though", which almost got annoying at times. But I did like the overall writing, and there were no traces that this was written by a Norwegian author. It's written in a high fantasy style, which suited the story well.

Overall, I think this is a strong debut and an enjoyable high fantasy novel. I would recommend reading it, not only because it is a good book, but to support a self-published author.

I will continue on with the series, and hopefully buy this in paperback once I can afford it!

This debut-novel is really well worth the read. It is a real pageturner. I was captivated from det first page, and I am having a hard time putting the book down. Fortunately there will be four more to read. Unfortunately there is only planned on four more. If you are into fantasy, magic and mythical creatures, this is a must read. I have written a review in norwegian below.

Mostly I really liked this book, there were a few details that I found too childish, but other than that it was a great book! It drew me in, and I really cared for the characters. For a debut it is very well written, and Linn Tesli has created a solid fantasy-world With a lot of New and fun species. Can't wait for the next book in the series!

Well well, what can I say about Reborn? I got this as an ARC by the author, but doesn't influence my review at all. This is a firm but fair overlook into Reborn.

First of all, the world is vast, and pretty complex. There are a LOT of characters and time-skips going on, so it can be tricky figuring out what's happening in the story. However, the author has clearly researched and created her world very well, as each one is refreshing without being overdone. There are a vast amount of different creatures (some cutesy and some downright deadly!) some of which may turn off readers. Unicorns, griffons and talking sarcastic squirrels, this has it all. While the worldbuilding hasn't really introduced anything original to the fantasy genre, using a lot of tried and tested fantasy cliches, I wouldn't take that away from the author or the book, as they are utilised fairly well. The talking squirrel is actually one of my favourite characters because of how sarcastic he is! I laughed every time he appeared.

Same goes for the plot really. An evil king takes over from his sister (who you actually feel sorry for as the story goes on), a chosen group of kids have to go around, gathering allies to defeat them. While nothing special in terms of creativity, I think its well written and a lot certainly happens! There are a huge number of characters in Reborn, some written better then others, as is the vast number of races. Therefore it can be difficult to figure out what's going on in the scope of things. Birken was my favourite character because he was likable and probably the most developed. I will be perfectly honest...I didn't like the kids. Ayva is the most powerful and chosen character in the book for obvious reasons, but I have a natural bias against any teenager prodigies, mainly because I find them whiny and full of angst, and usually everything bends over for them on a silver platter. That...doesn't happen so much in Reborn, but I found their powers at times a bit "overpowered". I would have liked more conflict overall, but it's still very well written, and gives you a scale of how vast the world is. It ends on an open ended note showing there is still a lot to come into the second book, and a lot of conflict to follow.

Overall, I highly recommend Reborn. Good quality writing, a very wide-scope world and there's a lot of fighting. If the story had any flaws, it'd just be that sometimes it infodumped a bit too much for my taste, and that my personal opinion against the "kids" grated on me, but this is just a hard-to-please fantasy writer babbling. It's an excellent read and I frankly cannot wait to see what happens next!

Strictly for kids.

This is firmly in the "young adult" section, there is nothing here for adults.

The main characters are magic teens and they are on a quest while coming of age, it could easily be the plot of a computer game or create-your-own-adventure book.

There is nothing new or interesting here.

Maybe a teenager might empathise and enjoy it but I can't see any reason for an adult to read it.

So I have some mixed feelings on this book.
I got it as an ARC from the author for review.

This book is an epic fantasy, both in world and language.
And this is one of the problems I have with it.
The language in many ways reminded me of ''Lord of the rings'' and ''Wheel of time'', but I didn't really like the language in any of those books. It was kind of flatt, and the same have to be said about the language in ''Reborn''.
But if you like the heavy, classic fantasybooks, I don't think you will have a problem.

As said it is an epic fantasy read, and on that note it has new languages, many countries and races.
The book has a map and glossary, but as I read it at my Kindle, it was kind of hard for me to jump back and forth. Therefore it became really hard for me to remember where was where and whom was whom.
So I would also suggest to read it in psysical format, if you can.

But all the languages, countries and races were really fascinating!
Tesli has done a great job at creating a new, epic world with unicorns, elves, new races from all over the world and a hint of dragons!

She has also done a real good job on most of her characters.
They're well written and have an interesting characterarcs.
But not all of them. Some of the characters felt a little underdeveloped, but then again, there are going to be 4 more books in this series, dedicated to different characters, so I believe we'll get to know them later on.

Story was fast paced and filled with action, almost to much.
There were seldom time for the reader to actually take a breather, and that became tiresome after a while, especially combined with the language.

I also had some trouble with understanding when things happened compared to each other.
There are many POV's in this book, their storyline overlapping each other but on different continents.
There were no indicators of when the different things happened compared to each other. This posed to be a problem for me.

But this is the authors debunovel.
For a debunovel, it was a good book, and she has a great start to an epic fantasy-story.
I think, if I'd not read it on Kindle, it would soon have gotten a 4/5 starts, but the combination of language, Kindle and the heavyness of all the action, soon made the book seem really long and hard, and at some points I didn't enjoy it because of just that.
I'm hoping to get my hands on a psysical copy before the next book in the series is out, and do a reread!

But I would recommend it if you don't have a problem with the ''classic'' fantasy language

I received this book as an ARC from the author, but this in no way effects my opinion of this novel.

I found the plot line interesting and I really liked Ayva, Birken, and Everine. I found them to be relatable and likable characters. I was even sad at one characters death. With other characters I must admit I was not excited to read from their point of view and found myself skimming a couple of times to get back to my favorite characters.

The world building was pretty good. It reminded me at times of the game World of Warcraft and the good memories of it. I think it will continue to be an interesting series, though I can't say I will pick it up. Overall it was an okay read. If fantasy is your style then this might be the thing for you.
