A wealth of information packed into a manageable size book that works across background knowledge and experience - it would be great as an introduction to best teaching practices in mathematics or as a guide to going deeper and branching out. The book does an excellent job of explaining why it's necessary given the ways in which mathematics teaching and learning has changed over the years and connecting research to these ways as evidence for why this has been good and continues to be important. Each chapter presents a myriad of strategies that can be tried to address different components of math instruction, and the accompanying online videos provide great examples of many of them. The grade level books that come with this overview guide take all of this information and put it into very specific suggestions for activities and lessons that are appropriate for the content and student ages while maintaining strong alignment to the overall core practices. Math in Practice as a series is an excellent resource, this teacher guide included!
