AC Katt was born in New York City’s Greenwich Village. She remembers sitting at the fountain in Washington Square Park listening to folk music while they passed the hat. At nine, her parents dragged her to New Jersey where she grew up, married and raised four children and became a voracious reader of romantic fiction. At one time she owned over two thousand novels.
Now, most of AC’s books are electronic (although she still keeps six bookcases of hardcovers), so she never has to give away another book. AC writes GLBT andis to writing, a late bloomer, however, she’s found her niche writing GLBT romance. She currently writes for MLR Press, JMS Books, and Decadent Publishing
Werewolves of Manhattan is a series about several Alpha Werewolves who find their mates – all male, mostly omega/smallish – and rescue them in some way only to find out that their mates have some sort of ability or skill that will eventually aid them in their battle against enemy werewolf nations.
All of the Mates have had, or nearly had, some crushing circumstances that make their lives with their new werewolf husband a walk in the park. With one exception all the Mates are human so the first hurdle is always the “I’m a werewolf” speech. Then there is some form of danger to be escaped followed by the “I’m not worthy” issue.
In this case, Alexi is the Alpha and Donal is the Mate. Donal ran away from home at 14 to escape an abusive situation with his stepfather. He was immediately kidnapped by an evil pimp who forced him to take heroin and made him turn tricks.
When Alexi finds him he’d just overdosed in an attempt to escape – the only way he knew how.
Alexi had been in the Russian prison for the last three years being raped and tortured for protesting the rights of gays in Russia. He’s carrying his own scars but knows his new Mate will help him to heal.
There is a little drama with Donal’s old pimp but most of the story is simply Donal healing and getting used to the whole rich, werewolf lifestyle.
**
There are some writers who are good storytellers and some who are good writers and some who are both. In this case, AC Katt is a good storyteller, but not a great writer. Her writing is full of “tell” and lacking in “show”.
Just like an agenda, the story is outlined room by room, hour by hour and the details of the time spent are listed out in very plain spoken details. There’s not much guess work or subtlety, but the story is an interesting one.
There is very little romance involved. The Alpha knows his Mate is his one and only, they work up to having sex, and then they live happily every after. This story in particular is rife with revenge and ways to make Donal’s abusers pay. Though our guys tell one another they love each other, they really don’t do much to build their relationship.
I was also a bit disappointed that the healing Donal was supposed to have in store for Alexi was mostly brushed under the rug with “now that we’re mated I feel whole” instead of actually going through or even talking about the issues both characters faced in their lives.
We get a glimpse of the next couple and a hint that all the Mates are going to be needed to use their special skills in some apocalyptic event in the near future.
Though I’m sure I’ll read the next one – because I just have to see what happens next! – I wasn’t that impressed with this story and found others in the series a bit better developed.
although I enjoyed this book, I felt like there wAS NOT ENOUGH INTERACTION WITH Kane IN IT, SINCE HIS GIFT IS TO RESTORE MENTAL HEALTH AND CLARITY
Although I liked this book, I did not think that there was enough interaction with Kane. It is his gift to restore clarity and mental health to those who have been abused, and goodness knows that both main characters have suffered greatly. While I realize Sean's gift of la voix is necessary for the detox, Kane's gift is definitely necessary for both principal characters to have a healthy sexual relationship after so much abuse.
Donal has had to be strong just to survive. But he has finally come to the end of his rope. Alexei has also been through his own hell. Together they can each bring their own way to healing. This is a story of rescue and love.
Reading it again like how it is written and the characters. The series is a reread adventure and enjoyable as outstanding store line and highly recommended .
Spoiler Ahead This was the best book in this series too me. This was book 5 in the "Werewolves of Manhattan" series. Alexei Davidoff was second in command in Russia when he was thrown in jail for protesting gay rights. Alexei was beaten and tortured and raped he was left their by his Alpha because he wanted to challenge him. With the help of Etienne he was moved to NY where Armand invested his money and he became fifth on the council. While out jogging in the park he came across a boy dying on a park bench from a drug overdose turns out the boy is his mate. Donal Berne ran away from home at fourteen to escape a bad situation and found himself in an even worse one. Donal meets Apuso at the bus depot when he arrives in NY Apuso raped and beat him and got him hooked on heroin and had him working the street. This was a really good book I liked both of the MC both have been through a lot. Donal thought that he didn't deserve to be loved by Alexei. Turns out Donal is also a human omega like Sean. I also liked how the other Alpha's and their mates came together to help them. I also liked how the gods spoke through Sean and not only healed Donal but also gave him a gift of helping other abused and homeless wolf's. This book was also more erotic then the others. This book also introduced Julio who was Donald's friend on the street and is Etienne's mate. This book was well written like the other books in this series with no errors in grammar or spelling. I am looking forward to reading the next book in this series.
Donal is rescued by his mate Alexei when he was at his lowest moment in his life . Donal was forced to be drug up prostitute . He lived on the streets sense he was 14 yrs old . Donal ran away to escape the abuse of his step father just to fall prey to a evil pimp who used and abused him , he thought suicide was his only escape but fate was watching and Alexei found him . Alexei spent 3years in a Russian gulag being beaten and abused daily . Together they find love and how to overcome the abuse they endured .
A heart breaking story that calls attention to the incredible and deplorable situation of both teen prostitution and homelessness inflicted on the vulnerable youth of the LGBTI community. I was very grateful for this story and the series because if anyone deserves a good life it is Alexi's Mouse. The lead in to the next book was not a shock, but I liked the departure from the previous totally random pattern in the series.
I love this book. Especially the ending, I can not wait till her next one in this series. This one had the ups and downs. I like how it seemed to come in one big circle. If I keep typing I will ruin the plot. You do not have two read the other stories to get this one, this one will make you want to do that so you should really just read them all.
Another book that's wonderfully exciting. Between the werewolves, the omegas, and the friends who are being like family you wrote one hell of another werewolves of Manhattan book. Keep up the good work.
Awesome as always. I just love this series. This was my first read though of this new book in the series but will not be my last read though. I always have to read them several times. I can't wait for the next one.
This is the fifth book in this series and I highly recommend reading them all in order. All of the "mates" are amazing - can't wait until Julio's book comes out, he deserves a happy ending.
The two main character's in this book go through a horrible situation but in the end find love. It was an enjoyable to read this romance and see how the main characters fell in love with each other.
