But with new evidence on Cole's shooting, Justin can't deny that the plot to take their ranch was bigger than one man. A good solid installment in the Cimarron Legacy series. This one is Justin and Angie's story, and they are quite the unusual pair, as he's rough, ready, and confident, and she's city-bred, unsure, and lacking confidence. But since she's been told what to do and think all her life, she's not about to let him step in and be the boss of her, no matter how much she likes him...

Meanwhile, the story of finding out who Dantalion is and who's trying to drive the family off the ranch continues with lots of danger and a passel of twists. Read this series in order.

The Bodens are still in danger. Someone wants their ranch. With Chance recovering in Denver, the running of the ranch falls to his children - Cole, Justin, and Sadie. Only now Cole's been shot and is fighting for his life. Justin and Heath, Sadie's husband, put plans in place to find the traitor. To complicate matters, the beautiful Angie DuPree is staying at the ranch to help ensure that Cole is on the mend. Justin finds the woman to be a big distraction. Will having her at the ranch put her life in danger?

It was a delight to return to the Cimarron Ranch. I saw the sparks between Justin and Angie in the first book, and eagerly devoured their story. While the problems at the ranch didn't get completely resolved in this book, there have been some that were resolved. I can't wait for the third book to really wrap up the ends.

I received this book for free from the publisher for the purpose of providing my honest opinion. My thoughts and opinions are my own.

I love reading Mary Connealy books. The western setting, the rough cowboy heroes, the strong sense of loyalty and family all wrap together to make for a fantastic adventure.

This is the second book of this series and you really need to read these books in order. There is an ongoing plot of mystery and danger that begins in the first book and continues on here. It took me a quick minute to remember the last book and how everything ended there. This book picks up right where the last book leaves off. All the same characters from the first book are here, but the focus has shifted to someone else.

I don't think this was my favorite book of Mary Connealy's, but it was still good. I had a hard time feeling really connected to Justin but I liked him. Angie was a lot of fun and I liked her ability to stay calm and smart in stressful and anxious situations. It's easy to get wrapped up in this story given the many elements that are continually humming. Good writing, good plot. I'm anxious to see how this story continues to play out and eventually resolves.

Content: some mild violence

Before you read Long Time Gone, make sure to read No Way Up and possibly the free prequel, The Boden Birthright. This series really needs to be read in order. Although the author does work hard to insert information about the former books in this novel, it will just be easier if you have already read the first book.

I struggled to connect with the characters in this book. Justin and Angie were likable enough, yet I simply felt like I was reading about their story, not really feeling it with them. I don’t know why I didn’t connect with them. Angie had a very interesting back story and it was touching when Justin truly learned what she had gone through.

There was lots of danger and western action in this novel, just as in book one. Overall, I enjoyed the story much more after the halfway mark, but still not as much as book one. I am, however, looking forward to the third book in the series and am curious to find out who is the mastermind behind all of the mayhem that has befallen the Boden family.

The Bodens are a dynamic family. They can beat up on each other, but if someone else tries to hurt a member of their family, watch out! They are loyal and determined. Once they determine a course of action they stick to it and put their all into it.

This is the second book in a series. I requested this book from Netgalley over a year ago, and then found out that the books needed to be read in order. I had not read the first, so it took some time before I found wiggle room in my review schedule to read both of them together. My thoughts are that is better to read it late, than never. I'm glad I did read it! The best part, the third book is out and I don't have to wait to read it. I am ready for Cole's story!

The Bodens have a land grant in New Mexico. Someone with government connections is trying to take their land away from them. They didn't realize what they were taking on when they decided to mess with the Bodens. I LOVE the family. They love each other fiercely, and accept new members as they come. This is a romance, so new members are finding their way in every book.

The second book highlights Justin, the second son. It also has the point of view of the rest of the family. I enjoyed that I stayed connected to the characters that I came to love in No Way Up, and the introductory novella The Boden Birthright.

If you love a good action, suspense, romance book set in the Old West. You should definitely give this series a try. It has Christian themes, non-graphic violence, and kissing.

I read book one in the Cimarron Legacy series by Mary Connealy and enjoyed her light hearted writing style, sense of humor, touches of historical setting, and sweet romance. In book two, the Cimarron ranch folks continue to fend off evil desperadoes and wind their way into the reader's heart with their inherent goodness.

Featured this time is basically the story of Justin and Angie. We met Angie in book one as the new comer to the town who went to live and work with her Aunt Margaret who runs the Catholic orphanage and school. Justin is the oldest of the ranching clan although Cole is the actual oldest brother. Cole prefers mining to ranching and he was college educated back east. But because their father (previously seriously injured in book one) changes his will to involve all the kids living on the ranch, Cole is available with the others to fight off those intending to take the ranch away and wipe out the Boden family.

Long Time Gone has the earmarks of a tried and true western but will appeal to ladies because it has those lovable heroes and heroines and that touch of sweet romance.

Looking forward to Mary Connealy's next book to see just what happens to Cimarron Ranch and the folks living there and in the nearby areas. I recommend this as it is a good, clean book you can easily place in the hands of teens or adults.

This book LITERALLY picks up where No Way Out ended (therefore, I recommend reading the first book in the series before this one). From the moment Cole is shot, tensions run high. There are a myriad of dangers facing the Boden clan and Connealy had me gripping my seat, hoping to uncover the danger but knowing there’s another book in the series so it won’t end with this one!

I generally love Mary's books as she always adds some humor to them in all the right places.
This time around, I couldn't really get into this book and I too couldn't connect with the characters.
It didn't really start to get interesting until the middle part of the book when the action started taking place.
I really thought that some of this story should've taken place in the first book but to me it seemed long, drawn out focusing on the character's problems instead of being of being about what it is they're really trying to do.
I did however; like the fact that it was a western mystery and a who done it thing, which I sort of figured it out pretty quickly and I wasn't disappointed.
I'm like the others that have done reviews on this book before me. You should really read the Boeden Birthright and from there it pretty much goes into the why's and how's and how everything should fall into place.
I'm going to say that Sadie is my favorite character because she's sneaky, stubborn like her brothers and she made me laugh. I really think that she likes making her brother's mad at her. She also is quirky and very outgoing( which I wish i was).
Cole made me laugh in some places as well. He's just as bad as his sister Sadie. Probably just as stubborn.
Then there's Justin. Who is extremely bossy. When he doesn't get his way, he pouts like most men do. Justin generally follows orders unless it's against what he thinks is right. Justin is a good man.
He doesn't judge or get mad or puts a woman down. I know that there are big, strong, men out there just like him. But, they are few and far between.
Angie I think is a very special lady. I was glad when she got out of her current situation but, I wished it weren't the hard way.
Love is a very sneaky thing or sometimes it just hits you hard over heels. Love is kind. Love is gentle 1 Corinthians 13.
I think the author did very well with this. She snuck love in where it should've been. Like I've said before I love the humor and she did do a great job with that.
There's just some people that you just can't trust in this world and I think Mary did a nice job overall with that too.
I recommend this book to people who like this sort of story. It's in a Western setting and I liked that as well.
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher and not expected to write a review. All opinions are my own words.

Another trademark action-fueled comedy from Mary Connealy. But beware -- developing reader whiplash is inevitable as you try to keep up with the sharp twists and turns in this fast-paced plot. The Boden clan is under fire again, relentlessly pursued by a mysterious enemy intent on their utter destruction..

Long Time Gone is book two in the Cimarron Legacy series and I would recommend that you read book 1, No Way Up first. And that's because there's a complicated suspense thread that is carried over. The author does a good job of playing catch up in the first few chapters but I think it will all make more sense and flow better if you've read the novels in order.

I just love Connealy's dead-pan humour. She delivers one-liners that have me doing a double-take. I don't know whether to laugh or scream or swoon -- mostly I do all three -- so this was a very interactive read for me. :-)

Justin and Angie are a match made in heaven...once you get passed all the gnarly bits. Like Justin being all cowboy tough and bossy. And Angie being determined to stand on her own two feet after years of playing puppet to domineering family. That makes for clashing of wills galore and tons of rapid-fire give-and-take kept me grinning from beginning to end.

A rollicking fun read with plenty of promise of more to come when the final installment comes out later this year.

I've become quite found of the crazy Boden family! They bicker and fight, but they love fiercely.

Justin is bit rough, arrogant, and he likes to be in control. Angie is a mild and meek, having come from an abusive background. While Justin learns to give God the things he can't control, she's trying to learn to stand on her own, thinking that's what God wants for her life. The title, Long Time Gone, proves to be a beautiful theme for this story since God loves to stop us on our life journeys and bless us with things we thought we had passed a long time ago.

And don't think I forgot the mystery surrounding the Cimarron Ranch! There's a B.I.G. reveal towards the end of the book that seemingly answers all our questions...or does it? ; )

Four Stars - a fun story! If you like westerns, cowboys, spitfire characters, romance, and mystery, then you need to read this series! I would recommend you read the first book, No Way Up, due to the ongoing mystery. I can't wait to read Cole and Melanie's story in Too Far Down because #teamcole!!!

Things are really heating up at the Boden ranch. As Cole fights for his life, the rest of his family hunt desperately for answers. Though Dantalion is dead, the clues he leaves behind point to a much larger conspiracy that will put more than just the Bodens in danger.

The plot of Long Time Gone was fast paced and fun, with a helping of Connealy's trademark whit, though it isn't as pronounced as usual. There is plenty of intrigue and action that will keep you locked to the book, even when you should be doing other things.

The main weak point of this novel were the characters. Though they weren't bad by any means, they just...lacked something.
As the main heroine, Angie was okay, but we didn't really didn't get enough of a strong backstory for me to fully connect with her. She fell a bit flat to me. She kept fighting her attraction to Justin in the first half of the story, saying she needed to stand on her own, but suddenly near the last third of the story.....

It had been a while since I read the first book in the Cimarron Legacy series, but the author did a good job of catching me up, woven into the action-filled beginning, right where the previous book left off. This time we get the perspective of Justin and Angie as they work with the other Bodens and friends to solve the mysterious attacks on their family. There is quite a lot of investigation mixed in with various attempts on the lives of Justin, Cole and Sadie. Their parents Chance and Ronnie are in Denver while Chance recovers from his broken leg, and letters fly back and forth as they are updated on the danger. More leads are opened up and bad guys taken down, but the big picture answers are saved for the third and final book.

This wasn't as action packed as some other Mary Connealy books that I've read. Normally, I'm not even that into the action sequences, but I think she does a great job so I missed it in this one. It seemed as though there were an awful lot of pages of people planning to talk to people and talking about talking to people, all to find out what was going on, and they never really found out what was going on.

The relationship between Justin and Angie could have developed more smoothly. It seemed they went for a few awkward moments to discussing marriage. But they were, as usual, fun characters. The dry wit sprinkled throughout the book just makes me glad to have read it.

I am so glad that I had a lot reading time available to me when I picked up this book! Not only is the author developing the relationships between the family members beautifully--the bonds are realistic but drawing them ever closer--she wove enough doubt and suspense into this book that I couldn't quite figure it all out definitively for myself. I love how well Mrs. Connealy is ending each storyline while continuing the master mystery. I want to continue reading because I enjoy the family and want to know how things resolve, but I'm also content with the ending of both books I've read so far. This is a good series for those who love romance with a bit of suspense, a lot of action, and good, clean humor.

This was a fun western action with some humour included.

The danger continues from book one (thus this series will be best read in order.)

I enjoyed how the Boden clan investigated clues and events to find who is behind the attacks on their property and against their family. The chemistry between Justin and Angie was evident and cute to see how their relationship developed.

I enjoyed the group of strong female leads next to their strong protective male leads.

The danger and action and fun banter kept me engaged in listening to this enjoyable audiobook.

I picked it for the New Mexico location, which it kept. It appears to be a middle book, so I missed the start of the trouble and I'll miss the conclusion, but I got to see the middle brother grump his way to a marriage and Angie, the woman he ends up, grow herself some backbone. It's a Christian romance (and a historical), so there's no sex, and the religion is fairly well integrated into their lives. They don't stop to consult Christian morality before doing things, but it's more that they see that as the only society possible and it's a fish in water thing. Active religion is more a case in trusting that what happens is part of a greater plan and resigning themselves to it, and to trusting that things will turn out.

"Stop noticing handsome young men..." (59), and handsome men they were! O, men, yes, but cowboys to be more exact with some mad skills! And that is just one of many reasons why Mary Connealy's Long Time Gone, the second full novel of The Cimarron Legacy is just as fun and funny as the first one, No Way Up. With the author's usual humor, we can expect she rubbed off on some of her characters.

It's such a delight to see the characters from the first book make an appearance, and not just short and sweet, but makes convincing supporting characters. Heath may be my favorite character - can't help but laugh when I think of him. I think he's more non-chalant about his humor in this one than the first, but still good, especially when he verbally baits Justin. And speaking of baits, what a story about family always comes first and love defends all. The love story seems to take a back burner to the character development, but it's all relative, since the romance buildup started from the get go. I just love how Angie grew emotionally, as she finds strength to be who she wants to be, a woman of courage to decide for her own, stand up for herself, and know when to surrender to the Lord. She has this quiet strength with a heart of gold that I admire.

The bottom line is, Long Time Gone will stick with you, and you with it until the very last page, and still continue to create amusing thoughts in your head long after its gone from your hands. Action packed with a bit of everything, romance, mystery and a plot that moves. Want to start a new series, definitely give this one a try!

I'd forgotten some of what had happened in the first book of the series, and it was helpful to go back and skim some to refresh my memory. Being as the entire series is focused on a single family and an assault against their ranch, these books are pretty closely tied together, and I'd recommend reading the previous books first.

I really enjoy the family dynamics in this series; the siblings really act like siblings, squabbles and all. There's a definite brotherly rivalry between Justin and Cole, with comments about how one of Justin's favorite activities includes punching his big brother, yet there's definitely strong love too. With such an extensive history of squabbles, they tend to fall back on their old habits of annoying each other to express that love rather than a sudden sentimentality. I get it--there are just some siblings you can't get too sentimental with, or they'll assume something is really wrong, and it's easier to fall back on old habits than to change too fast.

I really liked how the author took Angie--a proper, obedient, quiet, city girl--and proved that anyone, when faced with danger, can be brave. And just because one is trapped in unfamiliar surroundings doesn't mean that one has to be helpless. Angie may not know much about the New Mexican wilderness or defending herself, but she makes good use of common sense, and that goes a long way. She's the kind of heroine I like best--the kind that balances femininity with intelligence and bravery, who's willing to both help and accept help.

I look forward to the conclusion to the series!

" . . . . he smelled clean, like the outdoors and horses and something else she had never smelled before . . . .if strength could have a smell, she'd say that was it."

Angie DuPree lands herself right in the middle of a Boden family conundrum; Cole Boden has been shot, his brother Justin is desperate to get to the bottom of it, their sister Sadie makes it home safely only to announces her wedding to Heath Kincaid. Meanwhile, Angie watches helplessly as they try to figure out the source of the danger that has been stalking their family for weeks. The least she can do is help the doctor save Cole's life and try to stay out of Justin's way as much as possible; if it's possible, the big man is hard to ignore.

Justin Boden is finding it hard to think straight around the doc's pretty assistant. Why is that? Furthermore, when she keeps daring to put herself in harms' way while a killer is on the loose, her actions unleashe a protective instinct inside Justin that surprises him and riles her. He never could understand women. As his family works to protect Cimarron Ranch, Justin discovers that the pretty little woman whom he has admired from a distance, turns out to have more true grit that he could have ever imagined. Which might suit him just fine, if their time doesn't run out.

Mary Connealy has continued her Cimarron Legacy series with a fine example of her ability to weave western romance into a really, really good story.

Filled with laugh-out-loud scenes, entertaining characters, and action-packed gun fights, there is never a dull moment in "Long Time Gone". I quite enjoyed my journey through this second addition to the Cimarron Legacy, and am certain that those readers looking for a bit of romance will enjoy the sparks that ignite between Justin and Angie. Now I will say that a few of the moments in the book were a bit over the top and the characters subsequently didn't always ring true. But you have to approach a book like this in a certain mood expecting some lighthearted shenanigans. And when I say there was laugh-out-loud scenes - I'm not lying! I don't want to spoil it of course but there is one interaction between the characters that I found particularly hilarious, perhaps because I could see myself stumbling over my words like these characters.

In the midst of all the flying bullets, I think what I most appreciated is the way that Connealy depicts marriages in this book, one where there is absolute love and support, accompanied by laughter and strong women and courageous men. These are the kind of marriages that we all long for today, and in an age where marriage and God and dedication seems like an after thought, books like these point us to a better way. And of course, folding some deeper themes like that into a novel packed with plenty of action makes for a solid book in my humble opinion!

Fans of Connealy will appreciate adding this novel to their collection, and will no doubt be eager for another romantic comedy about cowboys with the third book in the series. I award this novel 4 out of 5 stars.

I enjoyed this continuation of the Boden family's adventures, and all the twists that the mystery took were certainly unpredictable! The glimpses of what was going on with Chance and Veronica in Denver added to the suspense as well.

I especially enjoyed seeing Heath settle in as an official member of the family, as well as Justin's dilemma with balancing his deep-down love for Cole with his love for arguing with him. I enjoyed most of his relationship with Angie, although the fact that he asked her to marry him before even considering the fact that he might be in love with her bugged me some. There were a few small discrepancies from the first book (especially in the first few chapters where the books overlapped), but I probably wouldn't have noticed if I hadn't read them back to back. Angie's stubbornness about wanting to stand on her own made some sense with her backstory, but it still made me frustrated with her at times, and I didn't quite understand how she eventually moved past it. I did love her interactions with Mel and her attempts to learn to be tough, though! :) And while I felt like some of her actions were a bit unrealistic, I liked her part in the climax. My biggest takeaway from the first two books--men love girls with rocks! XD

3.5 stars

Content--hints at intimacy between married couples; kisses; a few accidental but extremely embarrassing comments (); violence, including gunplay; people shot and otherwise injured; descriptions of blood and wounds; ; references to immoral relationships in historical characters' pasts

I have not read No Way Up (book one) yet, and while it would have been helpful to have read it first, I still enjoyed Long Time Gone very much. Plus, I now have an excellent reason to purchase No Way Up, which I have acted upon.

I have read Over The Edge (Kincaid Brides series), and was thrilled to meet grownup Heath Kincaid in the Cimarron Legacy. And now on to Long Time Gone, the book has everything - cowboys, mystery, action, love, and family. Justin Boden is drawn to Angie DuPree, but it is not the right time to make a commitment... or is it? There is so much happening that is outside of his control. Justin has been forced into the leadership role on the family ranch with his father in Denver and his older brother Cole recovering from his recent bullet wound, and while Justin has no problem giving orders no one seems to be listening especially Angie. Speaking of Angie, there is definitely more to her apparent stubbornness than meets the eye. It takes an abduction and a punch from his older brother to open Justin's eyes and heart. But has he waited too long? And does Angie feel the same way? You will have to read Long Time Gone to find out.

The plot to uncover who wants their ranch continues with the Boden family. They had thought that with a powerful enemy gone they could go back to life as normal. But he may have just been one piece to the puzzle. Because trouble is still following them everywhere.

Another excellent book by this author. I really enjoy her writing style. She's able to convey the correct emotions, bring depth to the characters, and draw the reader in to the story and the lives of the characters. I've read the first book in the series so I would definitely say that this isn't a stand-alone. You need to read the first book so that you can grasp what has happened before. The story begins right where the first one left off with the assumption that the reader knows what just happened.
This plot has adventure, strong family elements, trust, faith, suspense, and romance. And it's all woven together to create a wonderful story that I thoroughly enjoyed. Can't wait for the next book.

The second book in The Cimarron Legacy series, Long Time Gone, continues the story of the Boden family and is about one of the Boden brothers, Justin. It is yet another exciting adventure with a bit of danger and suspense, causing readers to be on the edge of their seats waiting to see what happens next. Connealy once again brings to life another engaging, entertaining, and funny story in her well-written and pleasant novel. I would highly recommend this charming western romance.

The Cimarron Legacy series has quickly become one of my favorite series. I have loved the action packed pages, the suspense, and the relationships in the Boden family. It's not perfect, like any family, but they have learned to stick together and to make sacrifices for each other. They have also learned to work together to accomplish one goal. In the case with this book, they are having to come together to figure out who wants them off this ranch.

While you could read this book without having read book 1, in my honest opinion, you need to read book 1 first. You won't be sorry that you did and it will put this book into a better frame. The book picks up right where the last one ended. There really isn't a recap of the story, although you find hints of it sprinkled throughout the book. I liked how the action picked up right away. I felt like I had jumped into the middle of a movie set and had to catch up a little since it had been a little while since I had read the first book. This is a series that I want to reread again once all of the books are out so I can tie them all together in my head!

When I say that there is a lot of action in this book, there is a lot! There are some deaths, too. I was surprised by the traitors and by the ending. I had some suspicians, but I didn't want to truly believe that was who behind all of it!

Angie was a character who was easy to like. I felt like she grew up within the story and it was neat to watch her progress. I did laugh towards the end when she reaches the height of her newfound bravery! Justin was just a sweet cowboy who really never thought he'd find a girl. He was a little hard-headed, but with certain events happening, he came to see what everyone else saw in him. The story focuses on Justin and Angie, but you definitely get a lot of action from the other members of the Boden family, too. It's a book that you won't want to put down!

I am anxiously awaiting book 3 to come out! Everything hasn't been resolved yet and I can't wait to see what happens next.
