The Heart of Marriage: Stories That Celebrate the Adventure of Life Together

Rate this book
The best marriages are not necessarily the most perfect and picturesque. Marriage is about walking together through all of life's ups and downs, its challenges and triumphs. And no relationship offers more chances for personal and spiritual growth, love and support, and just plain fun.

Collecting true stories from some of today's best writers, Dawn Camp offers readers a chance to sit back and reflect on the heart of marriage. With beautiful photographs and poignant prose, this collection is a great gift for the bride-to-be, the couple celebrating a significant anniversary, or for any time readers need a lift. Contributors include Holley Gerth, Kristen Welch, Emily Wierenga, Renee Swope, and many more.

Review- The Heart of Marriage- Dawn Camp, Editor
The Heart of Marriage is a collection of true stories that share from the heart of their own marriages. Each story speaks of a moment or a lesson learned in their marriage that will encourage and bless you. It is not preachy, but conversational in style. Each story is short and to the point. You could pick it up and read any of them to be inspired to make your marriage the best it could be.
This book is for anyone- from newlyweds to those married longer. I have been married almost 39 years and was touched by the stories. I believe you always keep working on your marriage. I would give this book as a shower gift or wedding present or an anniversary gift. The concepts presented are for all marriages.
The stories will inspire and challenge you; they will make you want to fall in love all over again. They will touch your heart and move you. They will make you smile and you will want to share them with others.

This is a book to be picked up on the good days to warm your heart and make you appreciate your spouse. It is a book to be picked up on the hard days so you hold on and stay committed. And it is a book for every day in between as they all comprise the unique story of our lives and leave a legacy for our children to remember.

A wonderful book!

"...marriage was never meant to be disposable." Right it is. When I first heard about The Heart of Marriage, I was enthralled by the theme of editor, Dawn Camp's next project. I've been a fan of her other two books, The Beauty of Grace and The Gift of Friendship, both, like The Heart of Marriage is a compilation of stories that reflect the theme of the book. Each story was personal and bound together giving readers insight. The Heart of Marriage was no different. With a high divorce rate in today's society, the marriage institution seems so unreliable. Yet, that is not what God intended.

The Heart Marriage comprised of stories from many and they are each heartfelt and honest. I love that no matter where I am in the book, or what stage my marriage is at, I can still relate to each of these stories. Not one will have the answer to the perfect marriage, but each will share with us the blessings of love and the grace of God that binds their marriage. It takes will. And as you read through each story, some will hit you harder than others, and sometimes, there's a slow and subtle rebuttal that you catch, and your mind and eyes are opened. It did that for me, and I am grateful for it. That's the gift of The Heart of Marriage, profound, candid and genuine with its meaning and it's purpose.

"A successful marriage isn't the union of two perfect people. It's that of two imperfect people who have learned the value of forgiveness and grace." (66 - Darlene Schacht, Time-Warp Wife)

A book that I highly recommend to both male and female audiences. It will make a great gift too! Perfect for couples to share and discuss or a small group. Dawn Camp has also put together a study guide. Head over to her website HERE to download.

Fluff stories of other's marriages. The motto of the book is marriage is hard. If you want to add substance to help your marriage grow try Cherish by Gary Thomas.

`The Heart of Marriage` is a book on marriage written by author Dawn Camp. It's a book of stories that celebrate the adventures of life together.

Author Dawn Camp is a wife, mother of eight, writer, editor, and photographer who lives in Atlanta. You can visit her faith-based blog at myhomesweethomeonline.net

The author used the King James Bible unless otherwise stated. Stories come from some very familiar online names. Examples are Crystal Paine, Lisa-Jo Baker, and Holley Gerth.

This is a remarkable book with loves kiss at the altar and a reminder that today may be all you have, how are you going to let your love know you really do love him?

There are black and white photographs dispersed throughout the book that adds simplicity to it and quotes that make you think. Things may seem bleak but this book can put that spark back in your marriage. I enjoyed everything about this book. Even the part when Dawn and her husband had to look for his wedding ring in the snow before the snow plows came by to clean up the snow.

This is a fast read that I recommend to all women and I give it a flying high-five.

I spent some time reflecting on our marriage – the hard parts, my favorite parts, the parts I thought I buried deep down in a mental box of memories – as a I read Dawn Camp’s new book “The Heart of Marriage: Stories that Celebrate the Adventure of Life Together.”

This book is lovely and packed with truth. Truth isn’t always tied up in a box with a pretty bow. Sometimes truth is hard to face and even harder to apply. But Dawn Camp told beautiful stories of love and recruited many other Christian writers to share their marriage stories.

With essays from Christian authors like Holley Gerth, Edie Wadsworth, Erin Mohring, Mary Carver, Ashleigh Slater, Crystal Paine, and Kristen Welch, “The Heart of Marriage” is a beautiful compilation that can be read straight through or read in stages. Together they weave a beautiful picture of how marriage truly is an adventure worth pursuing.

I truly enjoyed spending time in the pages of The Heart of Marriage. This books compiles short essays and stories from some wonderful writers, sharing the messiness and the redemption to be found in marriage. I loved the span of what was shared, ranging from romantic sappiness to the gritty, hard realities that are all part of this tremendous grace of being married. On hard days, marriage can feel like a lonely place to be. But I loved the sweet reminder that this book offers in reminding us that we are not alone. If we are married, we find ourselves in the same club of hard days and good days and all the mundane moments in between. We find ourselves recipients of the same grace from the Lord, as we wade into the pain and beauty to be found from being married to another human. A sweet and encouraging read.

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for my honest review. First of all, I'm not a typical reader--I'm completely single and to be quite honest, Although marriage is the desire of my heart I'm not holding my breath. This book, however, is entirely relevant and inspiring to read. It contains short stories, essays and poems about various facets of married life and is funny and touching in all the right ways. I really enjoyed it and this book would make a great gift for a bridal shower or wedding.

I am really enjoying this book! It is packed full of short stories that celebrate marriage and I love how it is not only encouraging me but challenging me as well. It has reminded me not to take my husband for granted (it's so easy to do with the busyness of life!) but also taken me back to remember the sweetness of our relationship and what drew me to him in the first place. This would be a great gift for a newly married couple or as a present to those who have been married for years. I'm glad I'm reading it!
