2.8 - I got some great nuggets of advice from this book, but at the same time there was a strong emphasis on the Christian faith in this book that I hadn’t anticipated from reading the blurb (there was no mention of God compared to all the time scripture was referenced in the book).

Nevertheless, it was a good read for a self-help book. 👍

Never Give Up: You're Stronger Than You Think is an inspiring book written by John Mason. This book is broken up into three sections, “Looking Inward”, “Looking Outward” and “Looking Upward”. Within these three sections are 52 nuggets of information to help us not give up on our dream. The author gives us tips on how to not give up when we are ready to quit, how to avoid trouble and how to keep our energy up when faced with difficulties.
The author points out that anything worth doing is going to have struggles. And that most people give up either when they have failed to do something they wanted, or when they have accomplished something they aimed for. The author points out to us that God does not quit. That God has given us gifts to use and excel at. God does not take back the gifts he has given us. That by using the gifts God has given us, we will get better at what we are doing.
The author uses Bible verses to show us that the Bible gives us directions for how to live. He also uses Bible verses to show us how to gain godly wisdom and the benefits of prayer. God will give us the answers we need if we listen when he speaks to us. God will tell us what he wants us to do and he will use us right where we are, just like he used people in the Bible such as Mary to be the mother of his son.
Some of the points in this book that really stand out to me are that we sometimes feel we should always be busy. This kind of thinking can be a trap. The important thing is that we are progressing. The author points out that the Devil tricks us into saying yes to so many things. We gets spread so thin that we are not able to excel at what we are doing. I wish I had read this 10 years ago when I left the work force and decided to volunteer “a little”. My little became very overwhelming quite quickly.
Another thing the author points out in the book is that everyone has a potential to lead and influence others. He actually lists 25 ways to lead and influence well. When I took my first job outside of the house after having our children, I had co-workers tell me I would not be a quiet person very long working with them. Little did I know that I would eventually be in a position of leadership in work, as well as my volunteer life.
One of the most important nugget, I feel, is sometimes the most important thing is to get away to a peaceful God-filled spot. To leave thoughts and feelings behind. We should have a place where we can go to be alone and focus on the Lord.
This is a very thought provoking book. This is a book that you may want to go back to from time to time to encourage you in your daily walk.
I received this book from the Revell Publishing. I have chosen to write this honest review.

"Never Give Up" is a book that I read like a devotional. It has 52 nuggets of truth and the chapters aren't long at all. They are about 3 pages, which broken down is about 5-10 minutes of reading every day. This is a great book jammed packed with wisdom about how to keep going when the odds are stacked against you. I really liked "nugget 34" which talks about how we need to always lift people up. In a society where we judge and criticize others, or we think we know what is going on in their lives, this nugget helped me to see that we need to BELIEVE the BEST in EVERYONE of our leaders! I love how this particular nugget talks about raising up influential leaders in the best way and that they don't need to be recognized by other people, but they are genuinely interested in others, always speaking praise, want to make other people better and have good reputations. This nugget stuck out to me as so many others did. I found this book to speak a lot of truth. I give this book a 4/5 stars. Thank you to the publisher for providing me a complimentary copy. A favorable review was not required.

My Review:

Wow. Where do I even begin? This book was beyond inspiring. The author truly made me believe that my dreams are worth not giving up for. This book is composed of 52 points/mini chapters/reasons of why you shouldn't give up when you are so close to achieving your goals. Though this is a very motivational book, I would like to say that the author mentions God quite often. Sometimes when you are in a situation where you want to give up, you feel alone and helpless. This book kind of felt like a one-on-one conversation. It was as if the author was actually reaching out to me and was right in front of me making sure I didn't fall behind. I got this book at the right time when I was stressed about school and other things. Mr.Mason tells you that you are unique in your own ways and there will be a time where you get to shine...but only if you put in that hard work. You have to put in your best effort to get to your goal. I really like how each mini chapter was different from one another. With every passing "chapter", I felt myself getting stronger a little more confident. I think this book actually changed me a bit. After reading this in detail, I am almost positive that I can overcome my obstacles in life and reach my goal in no time at all. Thank you to Revell Reads for providing me a life changing book!

Thank you Revell for this complimentary copy.

John Mason's latest book showed up in my mailbox in perfect God time. Upon opening it, the title, Never Give Up, You're Stronger Than You Think was especially impactful because I forgot I had requested it. I received this book just days after my cancer diagnosis. Never Give Up holds a meaning for me now that it did not when I first saw the notice about the book back in April.

Thank you God. I choose to never give up.

These are 52 nuggets of wisdom and advice in this book by John Mason. You can read them weekly or daily or one after the other like I did. There's some really good stuff in here. I recommended it to my husband, because it reads like a business book, but there's also a Christian side to it. I found that even though I am not in business, nor do I expect to be, the nuggets nearly all applied directly to this mom who's stayed at home with her children since 1991. Oh my, that was a long ♥ time ♥ ago!

The reading selections are short—just two or three pages each. They're easy to snatch read in your in between moments. That makes this book great to tuck in your bag for moments in the check out line, waiting in the car, or in a waiting room. Yep, been there done that.

This is good old-fashioned advice that would probably been common knowledge for lots of folks a couple of generations ago. It's all delivered in a frank, matter-of-fact way with lots of funny examples and stories tucked in to keep it all interesting.

This one's worth a look my friends.

Blessings,

Laura of Harvest Lane Cottage

This book is small--166 pages-- and each chapter is as small as a devotion sized book. So if you want to read this for your morning devotions, go ahead! (However, I wouldn't suggest that as devotions are supposed to be more Bible study than a pep talk.)

I think he brought up some really good points that a lot of people should read. (Debating which person to pass this onto next, lol!) He used stories, jokes, and the occasional Bible verse to make his point. A point which I think is important-- that you are stronger than you think. If God is for you, who can be against you? I've never heard of An Enemy Called Average, but now I want to check it out!

One thing annoyed me. With  John Mason as a Christian writer, I felt that he spent too little time talking about the power of God, or having God on your side, or looking to God for encouragement and motivation. Instead, he spent most of his time talking about digging your feet in and simply standing up for whatever it is you're trying to do.

If you see this at your library or another book place that you frequent, be sure to pick it up! It's worth it. :)

Never Give Up is a terrific little book of encouragement. Fifty-two short little chapters, each a nugget of truth about perseverance and diligence. I especially liked that his encouragement was back up with scriptures from the Bible and not just nice platitudes. Just because the chapters are short doesn’t mean that the concepts are necessarily easy to implement in one’s life. Persistence and diligence are tough concepts. But so worth the effort!

I gratefully received this book as an eARC from the authors, publisher, and NetGalley in exchange for my unbiased review.

I was so happy that I read this book. This is a perfect book to read if you’re frustated in your life or losing your faith to God. John Mason will remind you that God is always by your side and God is bigger than our problems. I will read this if i’m feeling down again.

I’d be curious if there’s a book like this—one that, instead of quoting scripture, cites historical figures. Very solid nonetheless.

This is an inspiring and motivational book full of bits of information designed to encourage the reader to never give up on their dreams. The chapters are short, so they are easy to digest, as well as fit into a busy daily schedule. Some of the tips are common sense, but the stories illustrate the points well and may give the reader new insight. It is a quick read, but I chose to read just a few nuggets each day and really focus on the message of each one.

The book is broken into three parts: “Looking Inward,” “Looking Outward,” and “Looking Upward.” Scripture is woven throughout the book, and the author frequently reminds the reader that God isn’t finished with them yet, so don’t quit. Quitting prevents us from reaching God’s goals.

Book was given to me by a friend and I don't regret reading it. The book is focused towards Christians or roman Catholic but don't be dismayed cause it has other concepts that apply to non-christians. It was a really nice and easy read that brings you back to basic christian values that you can apply and use in your everyday life. I really loved this book, will probably reread every once in awhile. Would recommend! 5/5

In his book, Never Give Up, John Mason delivers fifty two keys to help us to never give up on our dreams. Each chapter is short, delivering a nugget of encouraging truth to help us to persevere.

The author brings experience, quotes, and stories to help us to find the strength, courage, and motivation needed as we pursue our dreams. The book is an easy read which can be picked up and read even when short on time. Each chapter stands alone bringing an inspiring thought to help when on the brink of giving up or quitting.

He helps us to look at the attitude within us, the opposition around us, and to God, the answer to our questions as we journey. No matter our quest, we all need that push at times to keep going and press on towards the prize.

Reading his words is like having a personal coach alongside of you, speaking words of affirmation and encouragement.

He encourages us to take time every day to recognize the bigness of our God and His personal involvement in the everyday lives of His people. The book is an inspiring and upbeat read, almost a necessity in a world often filled with negativity.

First, the disclaimer. "I was provided a free copy of this book. All opinions are my own." That done, NEVER GIVE UP: Your're Stronger Than You Think is full of common sense advise and stories illustrating the point. I've heard many of the stories before and the common sense advise is all well, common sense, but I guess that isn't so common anymore which is why the book was written.

The chapters are very short, and conversationally written. I read through half the book in an hour before I had to go fix supper, so you can easily read parts here and there or in a large batch.

The movie The Pacifier has a line in it said by the wrestling coach - Quitters, quit. And that is true. And this book emphasizes this point over and over. Those who succeed are the ones who keep trying. Keep learning. Keep making mistakes and learning from them. The ones who don't reach their goals are the ones who quit.

If you have something you really want to do and want to give yourself a heaping dose of common sense advise, this is the book to go to. If you have a son or daughter who keep quitting and not trying over and over, this would be a good book for them. If you think they'd read it and not quit. It would be good assigned reading for high school and college students who are struggling with hard classes, a job, and not succeeding the first time they try.

Pick up a copy of NEVER GIVE UP: You're Stronger Than You Think today for you or someone you know.
