Continuing with the comic series based in the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD Universe, we come to Spring. This one is based at a nearby lake during the zombie attacks. Everyone is enjoying themselves until the dead start to rise. Then several swimmers jump into the lake and don't return. This is because they meet up with a group of space travelers from Venus who are attempting to retrieve their stranded invisible spaceship from the bottom of the lake.
This is the sexiest of the titles so far since most of the characters are in swimsuits and bikinis (and sometimes less.) It's also the most sci-fi since we have aliens, spacehships etc. This was hinted at in another volume and at the time it just confused me, but at least now I see what was going on.
I really expected these books to be more horror, but they are attempting to expand the universe into other genres. I give the company credit for originality, but I personally would have preferred more horror.
Each graphic novel takes the outbreak from a different perspective which is quite refreshing.
Unfortunately this one misses the mark completely.
The book is written from the perspective of a group of “60’s teens” who are enjoying peace and free love at a local lake and come across an alien spacecraft.
Unfortunately, this Story has the feeling of a bad acid trip and ultimately fails because to be honest it’s not interesting at all and really does not contribute anything to the storyline of the other novels in the series.
I am Looking forward to completing the rest of this series, but this one should be avoided.
Another day, another Double Take graphic novel that makes absolutely no sense. There's no zombies here at all. It's about a bunch of people at a lake, telling stupid stories that drone on and on and serve no purpose. Then some swimmers disappear and they surface somewhere else that's more jungle like with toucans and stuff but no one seems to notice. Then there's somehow a spaceship from Venus. blah. blah. blah. None of it makes any kind of sense anyhow. I can't believe no one at this company ever said, "Hey, none of these comics about Night of the Living Dead make a lick of sense. Maybe we should consider rewriting this instead of having monkeys banging away on typewriters to write the script."
This one was just confusing. In the midst of a zombie series, this was barely zombie related until the very end, and even then it was very loosely. The structure many of the panels and dialog were impossible to follow in a way that made sense. And the story itself was confusing to start and more confusing at the end. I really was struggling to follow what had happened by the very end.
that.. that was pretty poorly written. literally nothing to take away from the dialogue. also getting tired of all the fit white able bodies running around w nothing to say. one poc per volume is really limiting and off putting.
