Even a Brain a-day can't keep this doctor away. Things get weird in the lab when Dr. Grimes feeds a zombie sandwiches, all in the name of science. Bring out your undead Bring out your undead I'm not undead yet!"
Continuing with the NIGHT OF THE LIVING DEAD stories, we find this one set in a University near the zombie attacks in Philly. This volume has some pretty big revelations.
We find out (supposedly) the cause of the zombie infections. It's been hinted throughout the series that radiation from the Venus Probe was behind things, but we find out it's actually
I still think Double Take is overreaching with the series including superpowers and aliens but I still enjoy the overall concept of the series.
This comic was so terrible that I have to read at least one more of these books (I was gifted the complete first cycle of these books ... and now I see why they were given to me for free) to see if it can possibly be any worse.
What starts as a mediocre zombie story set in the 1960s, with an evil scientist named Dr. Grimes (so we're starting off with some hacky writing) investigating what's essentially your basic zombie premise, quickly goes Way Way Way off the rails. There's a "Previously In This Series" page at the beginning of the third chapter that talks about a bunch of characters who aren't in this book, and casually reveals that one of the characters you have been following is actually several clones(?) of someone who we haven't actually met yet. Also there are maybe godlike creatures reaching into the panels and shaking things up, literally? It's hard to tell, the writing and pacing is just So Terrible.
The artwork starts off looking like it was made with MS Paint. Eventually it feels more technically correct but the posing and the facial expressions are static and lifeless. Not just the zombies. Every character.
So the art is lifeless, the dialog is atrocious, the characters have no depth, the plot makes Zero Sense, the authors don't even appear to have a solid grasp on the premise. How do I have so many volumes of this series? Oh, they all came out at once. And then the publishing house immediately closed.
That makes sense.
I'm going to try and read a couple more of these. I am simply astounded at how awful they are, and who thought there was even a modicum of potential in this trite, poorly executed idea.
I recommend this for fans of terrible sci-fi movies, and people who want to learn how NOT to make a comic book universe.
Thank god I'm finally done with these turkeys. This one should probably be read last even though they are supposed to be able to be read in any order you want. It's about a doctor experimenting on the dead in order to discover a vaccine. But he's killing live dogs on TV to see if they return from the dead. WTF! Half the book is college kids partying it up and covering themselves in ketchup as a joke. There's some Venusian aliens here behind the scenes helping with the cure too. I still think all of these double take books were written by aliens trying to pass themselves off as human. They are all batshit crazy and don't make a lick of sense. Thank God Marvel wasn't this nuts when Bill Jemas was the publisher there. His name is on every one of these.
the best of the double takes ive read so far but the dynamics are weird. the humor is lacking. the balance of characters is unsettling and uncomfortable.
Another addition to the beginning stages to a Zombie Apocalypse from different locations relating to the same storyline. Solid read & I recommend the entire series 😎
