A curvy, Blasian professor with body anxiety... and a psychic student determined to love her...
Fresh out of university herself, when Claire Lanh moved from California to Chesterfield Pennsylvania to fill the position of Professor of Philosophy at the prestigious St. Lucia University, she'd expected a fairytale ending in an Ivy League setting. What she wasn't counting on was falling in love with her gorgeous student, and resident psychic, Daniel Kang.
Just twenty-three, Daniel is the son of a wealthy Korean Manufacturing Conglomerate, currently on the run from a mysterious team of government scientists who want to claim his unusual powers for their own. After his elder brother goes missing, he is whisked away to the United States where he is hidden in the quiet town of Chesterfield. He lives his life in relative peace, until an easily flustered, plus-sized, Blasian takes over his least favorite course.
No matter what she does, she can't get Daniel to pay attention in her class and his troublemaking ways are making her already difficult job all that more treacherous. And once he volunteers to help her with her work after school, a whole new can of worms is opened. With her career on the line and his life in danger at every turn, can they learn to coexist? Can Claire resist the charms of the man that literally everyone wants, who will stop at nothing to have her? Or will a single bad grade destroy them both?
*Daniel Kang was very much inspired by Korean actor Park Bo Gum. If you're a fan of Bo Gum and other Korean actors, check out more Kdrama/Kpop inspired stories, novels and graphics by Author A.C. Greenlee at acgreenlee.com!
Author A.C. Greenlee is an award-winning creator of paranormal romance, high fantasy and adventure novels. In 2012, Greenlee’s debut novel, Guardian of the Hellmouth, was released via Lillium Publishing House LLC and quickly became a fan favorite. With short stories and novellas like Her General Knows Best, Put the Gun Down and Werewolves are Diabolical published under the same house, she most recently dedicates her time to the completion of her manuscript, Genesis and its sequel Arise. With a B.F.A in Creative Writing and an M.F.A nearing it’s completion, A.C. is extremely enthusiastic about embarking on the quest of university level graphic design and just hopes she has enough poultices to see her through.
I have to admit, at first I wasn't interested in this book because the typical teacher/student relationship schtick doesn't interest me, but I'm glad I gave it a chance. The first couple chapters start off with the forbidden relationship plot, then luckily Greenlee comes through and delivers the supernatural spin that I've come to love from her other works.
I especially love the alternating POV from the male and female leads. Initially I was annoyed by the sometimes excessive inner monologue but then I realized that the character suffers from anxiety and how it is written makes sense and is true to the character. After reading the entire story, it's refreshing to have a character that isn't cocky and confident and doubts her decisions, it's very true to people with anxiety.
The last two thirds of the book are action packed and fast paced and I got sucked in by the end. I would have liked to see Daniel use his powers even more, so that I could better understand the different types of psychics, but only because I'm more into the action than the romance plot. The story ends with the satisfactory romance ending, however is left open for a sequel. I for one, am interested in seeing what kind of trouble Daniel and Claire get into next. And there better be powers. Glad I gave this book a shot and can't wait to read more.
this author is quickly becoming one of my all time favs. the way she paints a picture makes you feel like you are there and like the characters are actually in the room with you. the heroine is plus sized like i am and even though she sometimes feels bad about her body its clear that she still loves and takes care of herself. this isn't a story where the bbw heroine beats up on herself the whole time and is filled with self love and understanding from the hero as well. daniel is sexy and so incredibly sweet. he's still tough and badass but when it comes to claire hes the most understanding man ever. i bought bad grades on kindle then turned around and got it on nook too just because i wanted my collection to be complete.
Some of the scenes were laugh-out-loud funny: a smart mouth student and a philosophy nerd, after all. But I was hooked by some of the emotionally evocative descriptive or inner thoughts of the heroine. This author is solid; she just needs some editing assistance (typos, autocorrect shenanigans).
The sex scene fizzled the love to fast the action was pretty good too many holes in the storyline. I would never recommend this book to anyone. I’m guessing this is one of her first books so maybe that’s why it’s like that if this becomes an action writer, I think that she will be fantastic at it but as far as romance, it’s in the trash.
I really likes this book and have red it twice. I gave it a five because it has a different plot from all the other AMBW books I have read (and I have read a lot of AMBW). The twist at the end is good. But most importantly, the writing was excellent! The flow was excellent. I was really impressed by the quality of writing.
