Sifted is book #2 in the A Recipe for Love series, and is the conclusion of Emily and Declan's story. It is told from Declan's point of view.
I asked her to have hope, faith, and trust in us, and then I did the unthinkable: I left.
Now, it's time for me to return and to sift through the pieces that I left behind. I guess my nickname of the Irish Car Bomb is fitting because I went off and left bits of shrapnel behind. I just hope it's not too late to clean up the mess I made.
We only regret the chances we don't take, and honestly, my leaving had nothing to do with Emily—my lovely Lemon Drop.
When I left, I thought I no longer knew who I was. What I know now is that I'm nothing without her by my side. She is the biggest piece of me.
She loved me when I was unlovable. No, she never said the words out loud, either, but her love for me is something I've never doubted. I felt it, I know I did. I promised to be worthy of that love when I returned to her. I'm still not sure that I am, but I need it, and if she'll have me, I'll have her until death do us part.
I meant every word when I told her that my heart would always bring me back to her. She is my home. She is my everything. My yesterday, my today, and my tomorrow.
I never thought that I would write a novel, although my English teacher my freshman year in college told me that he would hunt me down if I wasn’t published by the time I was thirty. Thirty came and went. I was busy being a wife and working mother of two and nobody came looking for me.
I doubt my sister thought she was about to change my life forever when she got me a book of “Mommy porn” for my birthday in 2012, but that’s exactly what she did. After reading the first book in the trilogy, I rushed out and got the other two books. I became obsessed and read the series several times before learning about Fanficiton. Apparently, I wasn’t the only one who couldn’t get enough. The idea fascinated me and I thought, “I can do that.” I was a nervous wreck when I posted my first story, a one shot about my new favorite couple. One story lead to another and then another. My readers encouraged me to write something original, so that‘s what I did. Thank you to everyone who encouraged me. I couldn’t have done it without you.
I love reading, writing, traveling, and spending time with my family.
I was waiting for Sifted for so long, I adored Floured, and here I am, finally getting a chance to read it.
I loved Declan and Emily, and even if the ending of the first one crushed me, I was eager to read what’s coming next for these two love birds.
How is Emily going to deal Declan’s return?
I took me some time to get into the story, the time lapse between the two release was quite long and I had to remember some plot lines from the previous book, but I loved how Lane Martin managed it. I was afraid for Declan and Emily, because her favorite Irish guy was away for a long time.
The beginning was really surprising and a little rushed to me. From the moment when Declan left and come back to his home, it was like nothing has changed. There was so many issues and secrets going along the way, and it was confusing at times. Declan and Emily never ceased to love each other for sure, but I saw them in a new light. Almost different from the couple I loved so much.
I have to deal with so many information that I was overwhelmed at times.
What I loved the most? Each character had his part into Declan and Emily’s journey, creating this awesome chemistry and amazing banter. I admit I wasn’t expecting this. For a 300 pages, I had to proceed a lot and be aware of each detail. Reading in Declan’s POV was great, finding himself back, determined to win his love of his life and to show her that they meant to be. Emily was a little tough in that one, but her heart never stopped to beat for him. She was just waiting for his return. the way back to each other was written in a beautiful way. No lies or secrets coming between them.
Once I got back on track, I was totally captivated, about this man who could admit his flaws, trying to do better for her. I smiled, swooned a lot, Declan’s thoughts and actions were speaking for itself.
Just showing how much he loved her, and pulling his big boy panties and face the music.
Reading Sifted made me fall in love once again with Declan and Emily. A great second chance romance, with a forever kind of love. This was such a beautiful conclusion for them, just flooded with love and happiness. A writing from the heart.
Lane Martin, I hope your next novel is coming soon because I can’t wait to read more!!!
After the way Floured ended, I was shocked and ready for so much more from Lane Martin and her Recipes for Love series. Declan and Emily were such a fantastic couple and I was devastated yet hopeful with the end of the first book. This story starts right where the first ended and takes the reader on an emotional roller coaster, told in Declan’s POV.
The story was a bit hard for me to get into at first. It had been a while since I read the first book so I was searching my memory bank trying to remember all the secondary characters. There are quite a few extras in the story and their roles in Declan and Emily’s lives are very important. Once I got my head on straight and started to remember who was who, things smoothed out a bit. The beginning seemed a bit rushed. Declan is attempting to find himself after the shocking ending and the door is wide open in Sifted; literally anything can happen. In the blink of an eye, we fast forward seven months and he is trying to find his way home. This book deals with many different issues. There are two hurt people trying to find their way back to each other, along with a multitude or secondary storylines that intersect and involve the primary characters. It is messy and complicated but there is assurance in the fact that these two have a forever kind of love. Once they forgive and learn from past mistakes, things are brighter.
I loved that there is so much we learn about Declan and Emily’s families. Secrets are revealed and new players are brought into the story. There are lies uncovered and truths outed. The story took on a whole new whirlwind I was not ready for. Reading it all in Declan’s POV makes the story different. It definitely makes the dialogue and thought patterns a bit more sexual (*sigh* men) but it allows the reader to understand why he reacted the way he did and where he is headed.
Sifted is the best conclusion for Floured. It ties up all the loose ends and gives the reader a beautiful story of love, forgiveness, and second chances. Lane Martin writes her heart out and brings the reader a story that will touch your heart and make you smile.
Sifted is book 2 in the Recipe for Love Series. It is told from Declan's POV.
Declan and Emily have a storied history. They fell in love and Declan promised her forever. Then he up and left. He had his reasons. He wasn't sure who he was. He destroyed Emily when he left. Now he is back and ready to claim what is his and he intends to make Emily that he is nothing without her.
I loved this second chance romance. I hadn't read book one, so I was worried I would be lost. There were some missing pieces, but the book gives enough background and recap to understand what I missed in book 1. Declan is a great character. He recognizes his flaws and that he loves Emily, needs her. He goes about showing her just how much he loves her and oh my is it beautiful.
If you like a second chance romance with a swoony hero, then this is for you.
I received an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I loved the conclusion of Declan and Emily's story. I didn't honestly know at first how I was going to feel about reading from Declan's POV....but I really enjoyed it. I gave me insight that we don't often receive as readers.
There were a few ups and downs that kept me on the edge of my seat. It was sweet, sexy and infuriating at times as well but well worth it.
I have to add that I loved the secondary characters. Especially Libby and Logan...I'm so glad their book is next!
I really liked Sifted this can't be read as a standalone you have to read Floured first and it's told in the heroes point of view which I thought was perfect because we didn't have to play the guessing game with what he is going through . I'm very conflicted with how I really felt about this story some of things were amazing but others frustrated me and left me a bit angry , the things I liked was the story line and getting to see more of the characters from the first book plus the sweet things the hero does and the heroine was even more likable , the things I didn't really like some I can't get into with out spoilers all I have to say is double standard with the family drama on both sides plus it felt liked a lot of new characters were brought in very quickly with similar names to characters . Over all this was a good story and I can't wait to see whats to come for the future couples . copy provided for honest review **************************************** hero=10 heroine= 9 secondary characters=9 Chemistry=9 steam= 6 romance=9 humor=4 darkness level= 3 action= 3 mystery= 4 enjoyment= 8 angst= 4 story line= 9 Story ending=10 character development=10 pacing= 10 cover= 10 stars= 4 would I recommend this book= yes would I re read this book= yes would I read future books by this author= yes
WOW!!! So many emotions sifted through the pages of this book. I made the mistake of starting Sifted just before Midnight. At 4:00 a.m. I had to close the kindle after reading about hunting eggs over and over again. The situation still brought laughs.
Book two definitely had more laughs than book one. At the same time the declarations of love had my heart pounding faster and faster. This was romance and devotion at its best.
Declan has gotten his head together. He loves Emily more now then when he fled across the pond. Now the groveling begins. Can he convince Emily that he is home to stay???? Can he convince her friends not to hit him, dismember him, or worse take his place?
Can he accept the changes that have occurred? Will Emily allow him back into her heart? Making this story even better was realizing what a small world we live in. Declan's early life was a sad and lonely adventure. With Emily and everyone else by his side, the sky is the limit.
Great story ! Could not stop readind till both books in series were completed.
Such a wonderfully written story. As the story unfolded with Declan and Emily I laughed and teared up in some parts. So many characters however one felt that you were there and knew them all.
Enjoyed both books...had some great twists i did not see coming. I laughed i cried, but I was never bored!!! Looking forward to more books by this writer.
I picked up "Floured" because it was a freebie, which was good, because if I'd paid for it I would have been upset to get to the end to find out it was a continued story in Sifted. That being said, I loved these characters, and Declan Hayes makes a marvelous book boyfriend. Such a sweetie, even though he's in the dark about his own heritage.
In "Sifted" the story finishes up through Declan's point of views. A great cast of characters, good friends and family. What he does to organize he and Emily's wedding is amazing. I went through lots of tissues, some to wipe away sweet tears, not just sad tears.
I loved this story, but this is the third author I've read recently who doesn't seem to know the difference between cavalry and Calvary.

DNF (Did Not Finish)
I regret this is the first time that I have not been able to finish a book to completion. This book was very slow from the start and just did not improve. The story felt like it was all over the place, with events in the present and past mixed together. The story was boring.
I made it to chapter seven, but I have given up. It just wasn’t for me. I realize that the book was in the male character’s POV but there just wasn’t enough interaction when the characters were together. There also didn’t feel like there was a build up to anything big happening.
