A Nebraska native, A.C. Wilson now lives in historic Abilene, Kansas with her husband and two boys. Always an avid reader, A.C. first fell in love with historical romances both Regency and Western. The world was a wide open place where adventures could happen even between the pages of a book. Deciding to give the characters in her head some room to breathe, A.C. started typing and hasn't looked back.

The Black Hills series books are contemporary western romances set in the iconic beauty of the Black Hills of South Dakota. The Johnson family holds true to their values of love, duty, family, and loyalty.

Broken Country novels featuring Levi and Taryn begin with Discovering Taryn. It is a "clean" young adult romance spinoff from the Black Hills Series. The family values continue as a young woman tries to find her way in life and love and a young man learns the meaning of patience and perserverence.

Am I alone in the fact that I have absolutely no love for Taryn?
I'm just wondering because I find her to have zero likeable qualities.
Sure, she's been through a lot. However, that doesn't make her worthy of an affection as genuine and deep as Levi's. I simply cannot find anything about her that makes me think she deserves him, and I can't for the life of me understand what he sees in her. Where I found her flaky in Book 1, she's become manipulative, deceptive, and self-centered in this one. The colors she's showing right now aren't flattering, Levi!
I just don't get it.
And to think Book 3 is titled "Deserving Taryn". More like "Deserving More Than Taryn". Or "Deserving Levi" from Taryn's pov. In my opinion, anyway.
Right now, I'm totally #TeamCharity, and I barely know the chick.

Levi, on the other hand, has really grown on me since the first book. Not that I didn't think he was a doll in the first book (I even said so in my review), but the further he grows into his manhood, the more endearing I find him. He is a true, good man. Deserving of much more happiness than Taryn allows him.

In this book, we get to be reunited with some characters from the author's Black Hills Series. Based on the books I've read in the series, they are good people. I love how well Levi fit in with them, as he should since he's good people, too.

Even though my distaste for Taryn is strong and I think Levi's love for her is undeserved and ridiculous, I gave this book 4 stars because, unlike the first book, this one really held my attention. It moved at a much more steady pace and evoked much more emotion and intrigue from me. Most of it was not happy, but it was more just the same, and I like to feel when I read. A vast improvement from Book 1. Kudos to the author for stepping up her game with this one. I'd also like to compliment her use of descriptive and figurative language. When Levi said his mouth tasted like ash toward the end, I tasted it, too. I do like her way with words, even if I don't always like the way they make me feel.

I'm a little on the fence about Book 3. I'd really like to see Taryn redeem herself for Levi's sake, but I don't think I'll ever feel like she deserves him. She left a sour taste in my mouth that I'm not sure I'll be able to wash out with the next book. However, Ms. Wilson surprised me with the turnaround in the quality of this book, so maybe she'll continue to surprise me with the third installment.

*** Gifted in exchange for my honest review ***

So I was anticipating book 2, which is set when Taryn and Levi are set to graduate and plan for their futures... Levi has loved Taryn for a long time but it seems she sees him only as a best friend, she has a boyfriend whom Levi knows is a wrong choice for Taryn, but try as he might she won't listen to his concerns.

Taryn sees Levi as her best friend, but she is blind to knowing that she holds Levi's heart in the palm of her hand.
Does he move ahead without Taryn? Does he tell her how he feels? Levi's family see it plain as day, so does Levi's MBFF Alex, Alex has lots of suggestions for Levi, and finally Levi listens to him...

Levi sets forth to lay his feelings at Taryn's feet, will she stomp his heart and future hopes into the dust? Or will the future look bright...

Taryn has had a rough life, she is planning to move to Atlanta, Georgia with her Boyfriend Dustin, and although she is keen to spread her wings and leave the small country town in Midwest Nebraska behind. But things start to change when Dustin shows his true colours, and Levi finally tells Taryn how he feels.

When Taryn's sister Bailey rings to tell her that she is marrying Blake Phails (Their story is Adult): Black Hills Secrets Taryn is worried that her sister will move on and forget her, upset and in tears she runs to Levi, her rock and asks him to accompany her back to the place that has many unhappy memories for her.

Will this time away cement the fledgling romance or will Taryn's past make her withdraw and in the process break both their hearts.

Well I can say ...Have tissues at the ready and get ready to watch Levi fight for what he wants most in life.

I sat and read this again in one sitting - staying up well into the wee hours of the morning. I hoped like heck that Levi would get his dreams, whether this meant leaving everything behind which he loved, he would give everything up for his girl, and I love his old fashioned romantic heart!

I will not give you any ideas on the outcome, but I am desperate for book 3 to arrive ASAP

I was given a copy by the author in exchange for an honest review.

Levi has been in love with Taryn for a long time, but Taryn only sees him as her best friend. They are getting ready to graduate and plan their futures, but will Levi finally speak up and tell Taryn how he feels? Will he let her move away? I can't say much without giving this book away, so I will say I really liked this book. It is very well written and the characters are so lovable. I am really looking forward to the next book, I really have to know what happens.

No matter your age, you will love this series. Levi and Taryn have a lot to work out, but the past is a hard thing to let go of, especially when you are in the place where all the demons live. For some the Black Hills bring peace and show beauty, but not for Taryn. Back in the Hills for her sister's wedding, the peace and quiet are giving her time to think. Levi, on the other hand is using the time to develop their relationship, but also learn more about Taryn's past. The Johnson's all try to help the two with their struggles, but sometimes you have to throw your hands in the air and let Fate take the wheel.

Wow after 2 long years Levi is still head over heels in love with Taryn, but Taryn doesn't see it the same way as Levi. They are best friends and he is trying to be there as a friend but he's head and heart aren't matching. I received this book as an ARC and I couldn't put it down when I was reading. Country and family values in this story were great
