[Children's Fiction (Ages 8-12)] [Read by MacLeod Andrews]
Experience the excitement of the complete origin story as told in Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy .
An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy tells the story of a group of cosmic misfits -- Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket Raccoon, and Groot -- who band together to protect a mysterious orb against Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe.
Before they were the Guardians of the Galaxy, Peter Quill, Gamora, Drax the Destroyer, Rocket, and Groot were just a group of cosmic misfits. They must put aside their differences and band together to protect a mysterious Orb from a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. In so doing, they learn more about themselves than they ever thought possible.

Like The Avengers, the ensemble here really shines. So many funny things from the movie were captured here. It makes me want to watch the movie again. Also, I learned more about Nova Corps and Xandar. Language was toned down to befit a children's book.
"Metaphors are gonna go over his head." "Nothing goes over my head. My reflexes are too fast. I would catch it." "I'm going to die surrounded by the biggest idiots in the galaxy."
this film is so iconic and I very much enjoyed its novelization. not 100% sure who this version is meant to be for, considering some of the profanity remained, but I had a great time.
Opener: “The planet Morag was once home to a great civilization. For centuries, the citizens worked together to develop commerce, build monuments, and advance the arts. But at the height of its culture, Morag’s environment went through a terrible shift.”
Summary: Brash space adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the quarry of relentless bounty hunters after he steals an orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain. To evade Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with four disparate misfits: gun-toting Rocket Raccoon, treelike-humanoid Groot, enigmatic Gamora, and vengeance-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when he discovers the orb's true power and the cosmic threat it poses, Quill must rally his ragtag group to save the universe.
Verdict: I have a soft spot for space operas. I have already said in the Thor book review that Thor and Guardians of the Galaxy were my favorite Marvel movies. Guardians of the Galaxy more so because it has a smart, lovable host of characters. These characters carry depth in their background, worldview, and uniqueness. Drax and anyone would make for a hilarious combo. Gamora and Nebula share an intense emotional relationship. Rocket, Peter, and Groot (oh, blessed Groot!) make up for a badass motley of baddies. This book tones down the language a bit for the younger readers, but that is not necessarily a bad thing here.
Marvel's Guardians of the Galaxy is is like the movie but has a better sense of the characters perspective and more details of it. The book was not too good, it wasn't as exciting as the movie and there were certain things that were missing. The story talks about how the heroes get together and save the universe together and fight against Ronan, to get the infinity stone that Thanos wants. Guardians of the Galaxy is a exciting and mind blowing to read, and you can imagine it in your head that is going on. I would recommend this book to people who have not watch the movie, but for those who did, I don't recommend it.
When I saw Infinity War, I always wondered where Thanos came from. It was so random to start the movie with him, someone I didn’t know in the marvel cinematic universe.
After reading this book, I had some more background knowledge about infinity stones and also Thanos.
This book explained to us each character before they became the guardians of the galaxy. Was interesting to learn about Drax!
I suppose if you want something tamer than the movie this is where you go. Instead of "They got my dick message!" you get "they got my jerk message!" Which is not as funny. At all. But hey, they somehow PG'd up this thing. Whatever.
Peter Quill (Star-Lord) is a thug who is trying to get his hands on a precious artifact from a distant planet. When he is there grabbing it he is stopped by guards and military. He gets past them and runs away. A more evil person named Thanos wanted it's mighty power. Thanos took it and started to kill people and towns. They decided to fight Thanos. My favorite part of the book is when their industrial ships are blown up so Peter jumps out of his to save someone else from space. I would recommend this book to everyone but people that don't like sci-fi.
