I've lived six lives in one and it all shows up in the books I write, one way or another.

I was always a risk taker and broke mustangs at thirteen years old in Oregon. I learn to break them with love, not threat or pain.

At 17 years old, I picked night-crawlers (worms) out in our Oregon orchards from 9pm to midnight, every night. I earned enough money to buy my school clothes and book. I also plunked down $600 to a flight company at the Medford, Oregon airport and asked them to teach me...a girl...to fly. I soloed in 12 hours, which is average. From that time until I left for the US Navy at 18, I had accrued 39 hours of flight time in my Cessna 150 single engine airplane.

I was in the US military and was an AG3 (weather forecaster). There was no airplane club, so I couldn't fly when I was in the Navy. But I could look at the clouds in the sky ;-).

Later, I flew in a B-52 bomber for a day and night mission (18 hours total), a T-38 Talon jet, USAF, where I was riding in a "chase plane" on a test flight in a Dragonfly jet.

I was one of the first AFLA (American Fencing League of America) women fencers to fence with epee and sabre. These weapons were closed to women because they were too 'heavy' for a female to handle. I said baloney and fought the males and won half my bouts. I was part of a surge of women fencers on the East Coast in the 1970's to push for equality in the sport. Together, we changed the sport and changed the mind of the men. Today? In the Olympics? Women now fence in foil, epee and sabre, thanks to what we did as a vanguard showing the world it could be done.

I then became a volunteer firefighter when I was a civilian once more, the first woman in an all - male fire department in West Point, Ohio for three years. I became a local expert not only in firefighting, driving the engine and tanker trunks, but also had training in hazardous material (Reynoldsburg Fire Academy, Columbus, OH).

My books always reflect what I experienced. If you like edgy, gritty, deeply and emotionally intense love stories with sympathetic heroes and heroines, check out my newest series that will be available mid-Oct. 2015, and it incorporates much of what I have lived.

mmmm, maybe if I read the book I might have given it 4 stars but I listen to the audio book and I wasn't that wrapped in the narrator. I don't know, something about this book just didn't stick with me. I'm still going to read the next one in the series, see how I go.

Sniper Gage Hunter's back from a long assignment and runs into his friend, Matt Culver. As they sit to enjoy pizza they're joined by Matt's pilot sister, Alexa, just in from a protection run. Happy over his recent engagement, Matt briefly tries his hand at matchmaking but doesn't notice that the attraction between Alex and Gage don't need any help.

Gage is immediately taken with Alexa but he's very conscious of their differences in education, money, lifestyle and their ranks, she's an officer and he's enlisted. But he'd love to be part of the close-knit, loving family that he'd once had and lost leaving him alone in the world.

Alexa's excited she'll be stateside in three months working with her family and the last thing she was ready for is meeting the man of her dreams. Throwing ranks and caution to the wind, Alexa invites Gage to help pack and distribute the charity goods her family has collected in a nearby 'friendly' village.

But they are in a warzone and the delivery doesn't go as smooth as everyone hopes when the delivery and medical teams are attacked and every female in the group is kidnapped by the Taliban.

Overall the outing is typical of this nice safe series featuring sweet romances with a war torn backdrop leaning heavily on the close Culver family's mixed culture. However, as always, flashbacks to information previously related and repetitive information was tedious to slog through in the read, thankfully there was less than usual overall.

Captain Alexa Culver and Marine sniper Gage Hunter meet on base in Bagram, Afganistan, and there is an instant attraction between them. When Alexa is kidnapped by the Taliban when they are on a humanitarian mission, Gage is desperate to rescue her. She is humiliated and feels broken by the cruel kidnappers who intend to sell her as a sex slave. Attaching himself to the Seal team sent in for the rescue attempt, Gage uses all his talents as a sniper to help with the rescue. Coming from a tagic background himself, Gage wonders if their fragile feelings for each other will be enough. I really enjoyed this military, suspenseful romance.

Lindsay McKenna has created an intriguing and exciting group of characters, who are meshed together in a most unusual way. This complex group of stories comprises the Delos Series. While each book is a stand-alone, the impact and continuity is more appealing when read in order.

Broken Dreams, Book 4, takes us on another special journey in this amazing collection, with the focus, this time, on Alexa Culver, Robert and Dilara's younger daughter and Matt's twin sister. The Culver's three children have all followed their Dad, an Air Force General into military service.

Tal, a retired Marine Sniper and Matt, a Black Ops Specialist, had me gripping the edge of my seat after reading their exciting stories in the previous books. So, to say I couldn't wait to devour Alexa's life, as a U.S. Air Force Captain and an A-10 combat jet pilot, would be a huge understatement.

Alexa's vibrant beauty, from her red hair and statuesque physique, is only matched by her soft and caring nature. She allows herself to be vulnerable because she is openhearted by nature, giving her the ability to sense people's feelings deeply. Risking her life over six tours in Afghanistan, has only added another layer of dimension to her forceful personality.

When she is introduced to Gage Hunter, a Marine Corps Sniper, sitting with her brother at the canteen at Bagram AFB, there is an immediate and electrifying attraction. Striking, with black hair and blue eyes, standing 6'2” Gage is impossible to miss. His quiet demeanor, however, is a mirror to an intense loner with a personal past that is filled with anguish and grief. Alexa's intuition is bouncing off the wall, leaving her feeling unsure how to act.

Alexa and Gage set out on a mission, via helicopter, to bring charitable supplies to a village, along with medical personnel. From this point on in the powerful story, the surprising actions that take place left me profoundly moved.

There are no spoilers here. All I can say is Wow! You'll just have to read it! While Ms. McKenna has a military background, it is quite something else again, to combine that experience with a supreme talent for writing.

It's a toss up as to who I love more ~ Tal and Wyatt, Matt and Dara or Alexa and Gage. Oh, on second thought, it doesn't matter. I'll just keep reading them again. I received an advanced copy of this book, for an honest review.

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. First, this is most certainly a standalone book. However, the Delos Series is amazing and I highly recommend you read it from the beginning. For Broken Dreams, I have to admit that this book is my new favorite of the series. Trust me, that is saying something because the previous books were all my favorites…until the next one came out. This one? It has just about everything and anything that makes a book special and a standout amongst other books. Yes, folks, it is THAT good.

The two main characters in this story are Alexa and Gage. I had “met” Alexa in previous books and I had some pre-conceived notions about her that this book shot to hell. She is strong. She is broken. She is amazingly giving. She is also a nice person and a helluva an officer. And Gage. He makes all my previous “favorite heroes” in this series pale in comparison. He, too, is strong but broken. He shows amazing depth in his giving to Alexa. He is just amazing and of course, my “new” favorite! These two have an amazingly fast-paced, gut wrenching, sweet and sassy story and it is a wild ride to their HEA.

I personally enjoyed revisiting previous characters – Alexa’s extended family is a hoot – and the entire Delos team. Know that this book also deals with some of the very serious, ugly sides to war that just about broke my heart. And the reason it was so heartbreaking to read is that these things DO happen, every single day. Ms. McKenna truly does an amazing job of weaving the cold, hard facts into an amazing story and you will appreciate what I believe was a tremendous amount of planning and plotting to make this series well-thought out and delivered. I can’t speak highly enough about this series and especially this book. Read this, people. You won’t be sorry. And apologies for over-using the word ‘amazing’.

I liked this best of all the Delos series, but it dealt with real problems around the world. It deals with the real problem of the sex trade. Of people being kidnapped around the world. Some is tough to read. It feels real to me. Broken Dreams touched me and I admit to shedding a few tears. I also wanted to cheer at one seen in the cave.

Broken Dreams is full of drama, family, some romance, a couple of love scenes at the end. Real tough talk about rape and sex trade. I wanted some other guys stopped and hope in future books they can do that.

U.S. Air Force Captain Alexa Curver is a stationed in Afghanistan. . She's an A-10 combat jet pilot. Alexa is smart and beautiful. She is a hugger. She has three months left in Military.

She meets her twin brother Matt for Pizza one night and meets Gage Hunter. Gage is a Marine Corps sniper. Gage has known Matt for years and Their older sister Talia too. Gage is enlisted. Alexa keeps asking him to help her. She is willing to risk getting in trouble for him.

Gage and Alexa only had three days together to get to know each other before things go wrong. They both felt things but were not spoken to each other.

Alexa is going to work full time for her family's new security company Artemis. Artemis is going to protect Delos 180 charities around the world when they need it.

While going to a friendly Afghan village to deliver winter clothes and shoes for Delos with other organizations to give help things go really wrong.

I have enjoyed reading the first 4 books of the new Delos series by Lindsay McKenna. I like that they are coming out right after each other with only a month between them to start the series.

I was given this ebook to read for free by the author. In return I agreed to give a honest review of Broken Dreams.

BROKEN DREAMS is book #4 in Lindsay McKenna’s fabulous, relevant, intense but heartwarming DELOS series. My emotions were tugged thru gut wrenching lows and eventual extreme highs. I thought the previous books were fantastic, but this one hits it out of the stratosphere.

This is the story of Air Force A-10 combat pilot Captain Alexa Culver and Marine sniper Sergeant Gage Hunter. They are both serving our country, are stationed in Afghanistan and meet by chance thru Alexa’s fraternal twin brother Matt. Although they sense an immediate and powerful connection they cannot acknowledge it due to her being an officer and him being enlisted.

Within days of meeting, Alexa invites Gage to join her on a Delos charity humanitarian visit to an American friendly Afghan village. This ends up being life changing as they are attacked by the Taliban. Alexa is kidnapped along with 7 other civilian women. They are taken, hidden in surrounding caves and brutally assaulted before Gage and a team of SEALs are able to rescue them.

In order to heal from the trauma she has experienced Gage instinctively senses what Alexa needs. She is wary of men but turns towards him and not away. He’s there for her in ways that no one else can be and provides a safe haven for her fractured soul while filling her heart. Patience, time and love allow them to create an unbreakable bond. They discover that together broken dreams can be mended and new ones created.

Riviting

In-depth plot of sex slavery and it's effect on Alexa and her family as another part of the foundation to the Culver family siblings is revealed. Another branch to Armetris Security and the beginnings of the future plots unfold. McKenna's ability to pull u into the story is outstanding with just the right amount of suspense, romance and more. Tying each plots into her series is unique and makes u want more. Just keep wanting the next one.

Delis Series Book 4

Reading this series gave me joy, and happiness when you read of the love between the families. I cried when I read at what is being done to women and the young children to be sold as sex slaves. It's a fact and happening now it disgust me I would like to face this men when they are caught and in prison how they treat them if it wasn't for a women you would not be here.

Outstanding suspense romance

This is Gage Turner-Marine sniper and Alexa Culver-fighter pilot in his unit in Bagram. Gage is buddies with Alexa's twin brother Matt-who's a undercover ops. As soon as Alexa and Gage meet they feel that zing of immediate attraction, are so drawn to each other. So much happens on this book that keeps the reader unable to put the story down but through it all shines their love, and the love of their family.

It wasn't that I didn't like this series...i did. It was just a little to tame for my liking...it had romance...it had suspense...but all the characters were a little to "nice" for me.
