Muscled, tattooed, and irresistible.

Thomas Street is an ex-con, but before he got out of prison, he locked eyes with her…

The moment Street sees Katie serving food in a hellhole of a prison, he wants her. Her sweet little body against his. Under his. Her screaming his name until she admits she’s never had better.

Now he’s found her again, working in a bookstore of all places, and she’s just as gorgeous as he remembers. Only Katie thinks he can be redeemed. That there’s a good man underneath his darkness.

He’s not so sure.

But then Katie becomes his. Katie and her daughter.

And he’ll risk everything, including fighting the devil himself, to protect them.

DNF 60%, which makes me sad because I wanted to like this book. I just
can't take the hot/cold -push/pull anymore. Both characters think one way but act another. The H is obsessed with the h & wants to find a way to make her his. The h is just as equally drawn to the H. But you would never know that based on how they talk to each other & their actions. The constant contradictions kept taking the romance out of the book and I found myself not only getting bored but also annoyed.

First of all, this cover rocks! Between the cover and the synopsis, I had to read this book. I think a lot of woman have a fantasy about a guy in prison cause let's face it, he's the ultimate bad boy. Knowing Street is obssessed with Katie and even hunts her down after he gets out of prison is a lure I couldn't resist. While I did like this book and it was maturely written, it wasn't as hot as I was hoping. The only reason I have is, it felt like we were reading about two teenagers instead of a full grown man and woman. That's the only thing that kept this from a 5 star read for me. Still a great book and I loved it enough that I can't wait to read the rest of the series.

1-1/2 stars.

Where do I even start with this book? Thomas Street became obsessed with Katie when she was a lunch lady at the prison he was serving time in. I don't think they spoke one word to each other the entire time she worked there. Fast forward two years (I think), and Street's out--and he finds finds Katie. She gets him a job at the bookstore she works at, and then...you know what happens. They fall in love. Sort of. I mean, they do, but there's so much back and forth between them, I don't even know.

There were hot moments, but hardly. If you want a bad boy (literally) with dirty thoughts and lots of drama while nothing really happens, then maybe check out Hard Time. Personally, I think you can skip it.

I was asked to read and review Hard Times and give it an honest review.  The book is currently free on a few sites.  I found both Katie and Street to be utter contradictions. The first part of the book Katie is an abused mouse then she turns a complete 180 when Street comes back into the picture.  I liked the second version of Kate better, but it was such a contradiction that it didn’t mesh well in my mind.

Then there is Street.  He is depicted as this badass prisoner, Then he gets out, and I suppose he is showing depth, because he can sprout poetry.  Conrad made him so darn wishy washy when it came to his feeling for Katie, there really isn’t anything badass about him.  When she brings in a motorcycle club I’m shaking my head thinking for fucks sake!

Did I hate it? No. Did I love it? No.  It was OK.  I just like it when my Alpha is more alpha, or at least tied with the female lead in the story.  When the chick is the one manning up and asking the hard questions like, Why you always running away from your problems? (Like a bitch) I can’t get behind that Alpha....Sara

This is one of those books that wasn't bad but wasn't mind blowing which is not necessarily a bad thing. Not every book has to blow your mind. But it is a read that is sort of forgettable, meaning, I read it last week and now sitting here trying to gather my thoughts, I struggle with remembering what I actually liked and disliked about it.

One thing I do remember is it starts out with a man in prison and he gets out. Okay, I have read prison romances or ex-con romances before. But then somehow an MC get's mixed in and that is when I felt like this book didn't quite know what it wanted to be. Or is the MC added in just to lay down the foundation? I also felt lack of character development. We learn that street loves poetry and can recite it, yet we don't really get too deep of a backstory from him. I think he could have been a complex character, but he was sort of all surface. Same with the heroine.

Not sure if I want to continue with this series. We shall see!

The story was ok but didn't wow me, due to the length of the book it felt very underdeveloped. It had such potential but just felt a little lacking for me, could have had more detail.
Street was a bit hot and cold with Katie considering how obsessed he was with her and she kept chasing after him time and time again. I liked the secondary characters but after a bit of research it shows the next books in the series are equally short and while I find the synopsis interesting for each of them, I much prefer longer books so wont be continuing the series at this stage, if at all.

I was surprised to see that Street had some self control in him, who would have thought, “you should go,” he says through a smile as he adjusts the erection in his jeans. “If we start now, you’re not going to get home until midnight.” I really liked this book, Street was a good man.

175 Seiten purer Sex.

Katie notices Street at the prison she works at serving food and she thinks he doesn't notice her but he really does. Katie leaves that position and goes through some things that makes her not trust men. Street doesn't forget about Katie at all and they meet up again when he applies for a job at the bookstore. Street is fighting to stay on straight and narrow but his old friend his making it hard for him to do that and Katie believes that he can do that and start to break down the walls that they both have up.

This is the first book in this series from a new author and I was totally drawn in from the beginning. I loved how throughout the book Katie slowly got her backbone and spoke her mind. She didn't let Street get away with anything and the love that they have for each other made them both break down any walls that they had up. When he is with Katie, he has hope that he can make it.

Katie serves food in the prison Thomas Street was sent to. They fantasize quite a bit about one another over time. When he is released from prison he finds her, works in the bookshop she works in and they begin a relationship that ends with a HEA.

If you like bad boy alpha males, women who are attracted to these men, don’t mind instant relationships based on fantasy and are in the mood for a contemporary romance that is more fairy tale than reality then this might be a book you will enjoy.

This is the first book in a series that will star the Nailed Motor Cycle Club. The members were in the same orphanage together, bonded and are there for one another always. It will be interesting to see what happens as the series develops.

Thank you to NK authors services for the copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Thomas "Street" Street is an ex-con looking to hook up with his fantasy woman Katie. Katie has haunted Street's dreams for years. Street wants to get close to Katie in any way that he can. Katie's own dreams have been haunted by Street as well. Katie works in a bookstore while going to college and raising her infant daughter Riley. Katie has her own set of hang ups regarding her life and the men she chooses. Can Street be the man Katie needs? Will Katie let Street into her heart? Your answers await you in Hard Time.

This new to me author told a heartbreaking turned into redemption which appeals to me on alot of levels. The story and characters were real, honest, complex, unique, compelling, raw, gritty, and down to earth. I look forward to more from this author in the future and in this series.

I was instantly drawn in to the crazy link between the main characters even though I'm not an insta love fan. The constant POV change during pinnacle scenes speeds the pace of the book and gives the reader a more complete instant read on situations Katie and Street. There were some intense moments readers got to feel that were believable and yet sometimes the perfect connection got a little much. I wish Katie was a bit stronger because it was odd that she couldn't see the correlation between herself and Street yet so easily cast judgement.

This book was a huge letdown. The H was a loser and the h had the typical cliche struggles (abusive ex, struggling to make ends meet, etc). The H treated the h like garbage. After their first time together he dismisses her so coldly. I was disappointed in the h. She kept chasing after him. Lastly, there were 2 sex scenes that were not real but fantasies that the H and h were having. I hate that. I am already reading a story, I don't want another fake scene in a fake scene.

Street and Katie met in a prision... she is the girl serving the food and he paying for help a friend, but both can't take their eyes and lust for each other...
Katie has a abusive boyfriend and Street a dark past... will they meet again? Katie no longer works at the prison ... Street just got out of prison.
At the beginning it's just hard lust but their relationship is intense and becomes a redeeming love.

Awesome <3 A really great story filled with amazing characters. The entire book, from start to finish, was completely entertaining. You can't not fall in love with Street, or Katie for street. All fans of romance, particularly of the bad boy, yet can be sweet variety, should hands down read this book. Can't wait to start Slate's story now :)

Hard Time is the first book in the Hard as Nails contemporary romance series by Hope Conrad. Thomas Street is an ex-con, but before he got out of prison, he locked eyes with her. The moment Street sees Katie serving food in a hellhole of a prison, he wants her. Now he’s found her again, working in a bookstore of all places, and she’s just as gorgeous as he remembers. Only Katie thinks he can be redeemed. That there’s a good man underneath his darkness. But then Katie becomes his, Katie and her daughter. And he’ll risk everything, including fighting the devil himself, to protect them.

Hard Time is a contemporary love story and a good start to a series. I liked that Street and Katie face huge, real life problems. While their issues were those that are not part of my reality, I am very aware that some of them are very really to many people. I liked the fact that Katie's daughter did not just become a non issue, but that where she was and how to keep her safe and happier were very much a part of the story. Too often a child in a romance with a single parent just kind of disappears and plays too little of a role. The danger and drama of Katie and Street's romance was real, and I like that it come from both sides of the story- they each had problems that needed to be overcome rather than one being the perfect partner and one in need of redemption. They have both made mistakes and talk out their issues for the most part. The guilt and pain they each feel, and the internal issues they need to overcome are just as important to the story as their attraction and sex that they share. I really liked that emotion and consequences were so important and prevalent in the story. I wonder where the series will go next, and look forward to seeing the friends from Street's past find their way to happiness.

Hard Time is a great redemption and love story. It is heartening to see people overcoming huge but real problems and work towards happiness.

>Book Review – Hard Time

>This book is the first in the Hard as Nails series and ends in an HEA. Katie has a dead end job in prison food service. She finds a mutual attraction with an inmate, Street. They never speak, but she can’t seem to forget about him. Two years later, Katie is out of an abusive relationship with a daughter in tow. She now works at a bookstore, when Street walks in.

>The pull between Street and Katie is undeniable, but I wouldn’t really call this romance. Street has a hard time getting past his thug past and everything bringing him down, while Katie has trouble saying no to yet another bad boy. When the first sexual encounter is in a car, romance is not anywhere near.

>Street is a likable character. Katie seems to be the first one to believe in him until the MC is introduces at the end of the book. Those men stuck with Street as well, only in secret. The parts of the book from Street’s point of view show how protective he had always been towards Katie and how much he loves her. Katie sure stands by her man, but as a mother, she thinks the only danger is Riley meeting Street?

>I am a reviewer for Romance Author’s that Rock. This book is appropriate for an adult audience. I am giving the story 4 hearts. The relationship seems solid, but the danger from Street’s past was only hinted at. The story was fast moving, but not particularly romantic.

Brooding, broken bad boy. Nailed it.

Hard Time (Hard as Nails Book 1) by Virna DePaul is a very well written tough guy romance. Street and Katie have a sort of initial silent meeting which makes their introduction almost a second chance. To say these two have had difficulty in their lives would be an understatement, each handling things in their own ways. Katie is very resilient and brave. Street is too, however, his coping tends to be avoidance which is the antagonist in my opinion.
The plot is very interesting with emotional elements. As the story progresses, Street and Katie fall in love and all is well. Between the steamy chemistry, emotional connection and Street dealing with his past, this book will grab your attention and then refuses to let it go.
Overall, this author nailed it for the first book of a series which I enjoyed a great deal. It was also a pleasant surprise as the first book by this author for me as well. Best of all, Street and Katie get their HEA with a promising future I hope will be a part of each addition to the series.

Some people have it tough.

Thomas Street was a convict in prison when he first saw Katie. She was serving food at the prison as a job. She was petite, pretty and had a great figure, although in her cook’s outfit it was hard to tell. He saw her during a meal time and couldn’t get her out of his mind. Katie noticed him also, but the prison lunch room was no place to mix with cons, but for some reason she couldn’t get him out of her mind. He was big, tough, and handsome in a rugged sort of way. Katie had a boyfriend at home who was always abusing her and she was afraid of him so put up with it. Finally he got tired of her and left her.
Katie’s ambition was to go to college and get a degree, but two years later she is saddled with a baby girl, Riley, who was an accident but whom she adores and she has a nice job in a book shop. This allows her to study in her spare time. One day Street walks in the book shop, sparks fly between them, and Thomas Street is hired to work in the book shop.
The book is loaded with explicit sex, either thinking about it, talking about it or doing it. Neither of these individuals know how to love, and as time passes, life begins to mean more to them. The story is well written, but it would not appeal to every reader. I was given a complimentary copy for an honest review.

Katie and Thomas Street are both looking for fresh starts. He is just out of prison and she has a 3-month-old daughter from her abuse ex-boyfriend. Both of them fantasized about the other while she worked in the prison kitchen he was incarcerated at. It has been 2 years since they last saw each other but Thomas can't stay away. He finds her at her job at a bookstore and lets her know he has been keeping tabs on her. Katie has been burned by men in the past, most especially her recent ex. He physically and mentally abused her. She has sworn off men and fights Thomas and their attraction to each other at first. Thomas thinks she is too good for him but Katie knows better. They have a push/pull throughout this story. It was interesting to watch Thomas try and move forward with his life. He did bail when things got rough too much for my liking but it was an overall good story.

A very fast paced story by Hope Conrad. This story begins in a prison cafeteria with the two main characters, Thomas Street- inmate, and Katie-a cafeteria employee, observing each other with considerable interest. The plot thickens with prison drama and time passes before fate brings these two people back together in normal society, Thomas as an ex-con looking for work and Katie as a bookstore employee. I found their story to be very touching and enjoyed watching both characters learn how to trust and become comfortable around each other. Thomas gained so much humanity and became real as they became a couple. I recommend this book as good reading to anyone that enjoys a good romance story with a big helping of drama. Very Good!!!

Awesome book

I loved this book. When Thomas and Katie first meet he is locked up and she is a prison employee. Fast forward...Katie works in a bookstore and Thomas is released from prison. When their paths cross again the flame reignites. Their attraction to each other never faltered and even though they are trying not to, they fall in love. Katie's ex however brings mayhem into her life. When Thomas intervenes a attack on Katie he is once again facing jail time. Katie stands by his side and shows him he is worthy of her love.

This book is emotional and beautiful. It's about overcoming obstacles and rebuilding a future. Awesome book.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

A sweet, hot story about an ex-con and the girl he met in prison. When Katie was working at the prison, she was drawn to Street...and he was drawn right back. When he's released, he finds her and the two embark on a relationship that's full of chemistry and extreme heat. It has a little danger in the form of an ex-boyfriend ad we get a minor introduction to the Nailed MC group that Street belongs to.

I'm interested in seeing what comes next.

Not a bad read, at least the characters haven't magically fixed all their problems by the end. And there are just enough unresolved problems in the plot line to give some hope for decent stories through the rest of the series.
