Jesse is an unclaimed omega. He’s also been a member of an exceptionally nasty drug cartel in California who’s been wanting to go legit for a long time. Connor was a mid-level drug runner who turned on his bosses when he found out they were involved with something he couldn’t accept. He’s also a single alpha. U. S. Marshall Max Sandoval knows that Jesse and Connor’s enemies are all looking for single men. Pairing them up should throw people off their scent, and it saves the Marshalls on housing. Having Connor claim Jesse also ensures that Connor will always have a bodyguard on hand, because Jesse’s skills are valuable and their bond will force Jesse to stay by Connor’s side. Unfortunately, neither the omega nor the alpha is initially enthusiastic. Neither of them has ever wanted to be part of a claimed pair, and Connor is terrified of forcing himself on an unwilling omega. Mutual reluctance and unfamiliarity leads to misunderstandings, caused by powerful attraction, high stakes and the constant threat of danger. This is a non-shifter male pregnancy gay romance book. This book contains sexually explicit content not suited for those under the age of 18. The book is approximately 50,000 words, has a happy ending and does not end in a cliffhanger.
Unlikeable MCs. Reversed Alpha and Omega roles. Bad sex. Cheating. No romance. Endless hormonal arguing. Stupid behavior. Unpunished selfish manipulative brother (the REAL bad guy).
The main reason I’d read this book was because it had gotten quite a few low ratings, and some of the reviews were just so awful that I needed to see what all the hoopla was about. For some odd reason, I am one of those readers who tend to like books that many others hate. The only thing I can think of is that I am rating the actual story, the writing, and the emotional (good or bad) impact it has on me, and not rating the likability of any one character. For instance, I love watching The Walking Dead, but I would never one star an episode or the series because I hated an actual character. I understand this is a “romance”, per se, but not all romances start off on a lovey dovey playing field. That was the case here and you need to let the story completely play out before you judge, in my opinion.
All that being said, I can completely say with certainty that this story between Connor and Jesse will not be for some people. There is an element of perceived cheating, even though I personally did not view it that way. Connor and Jesse are complete strangers, who for their own protection within the witness protection program, are forced to be mated and claimed. This is a lifelong commitment between two men who 1) don’t know each other, and 2) don’t like each other, either. Considering the paranormal aspect of this book, Jesse, an Omega, is linked to Connor and only to Connor, his new alpha, for life. The rules suck in this alpha-omega world because it’s the omega whose life is forever changed. Hence all the hatred toward Connor and his infidelity.
I admit, Connor and Jesse were their own worst enemies in many ways, but Connor was simply awful at times, and his claims of not understanding the alpha-omega dynamics, more than once, rang a little shallow…just like Connor was in some ways. In this book, the alpha is the one being protected and is smaller in stature. Jesse is the lowly omega but could kick ass and towered over most at six foot four. This played a bit on Connor’s insecurities, and if it wasn’t for Max, Jesse’s U.S. Marshall brother, Connor would have just let Jesse die of neglect. Yeah, I can see how others would hate this man and this book, but like all things, you have to let the story play out.
In addition to the mating and claiming of Jesse and Connor, we can’t forget that they are in witness protection and that there is more to the story than this not-so-romantic, forced union between these two men. Someone is trying to kill Connor, and Jesse is coerced to protect him or go to prison. Both men are in a bad spot, and that is not completely brought to light until close to the end. What I will say is that Max is not as bad as he seems, and I was thrilled when Marisa went packing. One of the things that was crystal clear in this story is that omegas are considered beneath everyone else and not worthy of love nor respect. It was truly an awful feeling to hear such condemnation placed on a man due to his biology.
If I could say anything to prospective readers, or to those who did not finish this book, please give it a chance and look at it from a different perspective. Realize that these men did not choose each other and were true to their own characters. It takes a while but eventually they end up in a better place and the future is much brighter. I left this book feeling like I’d went through a terrible battle but at the end I’d won the war.
That omega/alpha story plot is the stupidest of all story plots, I read till now. Author "Aiden Bates" wanted to make changes in relationships so readers get 1 omega playing the alpha role and 1 alpha who's ego is hurt because his omega doesn't want him. And the fun begins - blah.
Also, omega character Jesse is one of most annoying characters in the whole story plot.
Conner is a fuck face asshole!!!!!!! And Marissa... What a fucking snatch!!!!!! This is one of those stories where you really just wish that the mc's don't get together. I don't think that this can even be considered a romance. It's more like a cautionary tale.
Jesse (28), an omega, had gotten into the family criminal gang, while his brother (Max) had become a law abiding US Marshal. Max had convinced Jesse to work for them undercover. Jesse has spent several years undercover. Max arrives to tell him he's out of the undercover business, but he has to live in witness protection under his real name, but with a fake backstory, mated to another guy who also needs witness protection. If Jesse doesn't agree, Max's boss is going to incarcerate him in a supermax prison.
Connor (30), an alpha, got involved in a criminal gang, but just thought of it as any other job. He's not really a gangster type. Then he saw the gang was trafficking people, and decided to become a witness against the gang.
Max was ok with forcing his brother to mate with a stranger because:
1. It was the only way the US Marshals would let Jesse live a normal life, even if it was witness protection.
2. Jesse had talked about wanting an alpha, house, children, etc., and this would give Jesse those things. And Max expects the bond will help them get along at some point, and they can be happy together.
3. Although not every marriage was arranged in their world, it does happen, so Max just thought it was no big deal?
4. Max had his own selfish desire to live near his brother, and he over-romanticized what it would actually be like.
5. Because of Jesse's undercover experience, he could keep Connor safe from the gang he's testifying against. (Connor doesn't know this part, because they tell him Jesse's in witness protection but not that he's a trained assassin or whatever.)
6. Mysterious "other things happening that you don't know about yet."
Jesse agrees, thinking this is just a way to stay out of supermax until he can figure out how to free himself from Conner.
Jesse doesn't want to be tied to or dependent on a stranger, but at the same time the bond makes him want his alpha. It's like watching a horror movie, reading about these two people living together. Like Stephen King, a nice little neighborhood on the outside, but something grotesque happening on the inside.
They go about their lives like roommates, while Jesse slowly starts to die from a neglected bond. They just eat dinner together, that's it. And all the while, his brother Max is there with his golden retriever energy, thinking they are going to be a real married couple and be happy together.
There are no ill effects of neglected bond for alphas. Connor starts going out and sleeping with other omegas. Is it really cheating? I don't know. They were forced to get married in the first place, and don't want to be mated. But at the same time, Jesse is left feeling like a failure.
Max realizes Jesse is going to die, & confronts Conor about his neglect. Connor argues that Jesse is just defective, frigid, and unlovable. So the confrontation doesn't really change anything. (Jesse's actually not frigid, he just doesn't want to be pimped out to Connor.)
Jesse and Connor have a confrontation about how they really feel about each other. Jesse says Connor's not good enough, he's not a protective Alpha. Connor says he'd rather sleep with someone willing, than to force himself on someone who can't enjoy it. It doesn't change their feelings, but it clears the air and makes things less tense, I guess.
One night they agree to have sex to keep Jesse from dying. As soon as Jesse feels better, Connor just says, "So you don't need it again for a while, right?" It's like every time they could make progress in the relationship, Connor fucks it up. Connor can't put 2 and 2 together. He just sits there confused, like, "Jesse's such a mystery, I don't know why he was upset after I said that."
What do you do when the character like Conor, who is written with absolutely no empathy at all? Every time he hurts Jesse, he isn't capable of realizing what he did. So how do you resolve the conflict? You don't resolve the conflict, really.
The neglect made Jesse's birth control fail, and now he's pregnant. He goes out to find Connor to tell him about the pregnancy (because Connor is barely ever home). He finds Connor getting a BJ in the bathroom of a bar. He goes home, packs his clothes and leaves. By the time Connor makes it home, Jesse's gone.
Jesse ends up being set up by a nonprofit organization in an apartment for abandoned Omegas. The only way for Jesse to survive is by having sex with Connor, but he'd rather die, because at least he'd die a free man. So he just stays in the apartment waiting to die of neglect.
Max and Connor find the apartment, but instead of apologizing or anything, Connor just stands there berating Jesse for the birth control failing, for going to the bar, etc. Connor's attitude hasn't changed. Jesse makes them leave by threatening to shoot Connor.
Connor is very self-righteous. Sometimes he thinks he might be wrong, but there's always a "but."
So on the way home, Max goes off on Connor, and tells him the criminal gang is going to kill Connor eventually, and the Marshal's office won't give a shit, no one will care, etc.
So when Connor's in the house alone, he starts to realize that Jesse had tried his best, and Connor had rejected him unfairly. He was intimidated by Jesse. (Jesse's like a badass, 6'4" thug type). Connor was being timid, hesitant, self-pitying, not the kind of alpha Jesse could respect. And if he could go back and do it over again, he'd do it differently.
Jesse hears about one of the gang members looking for Connor. Jesse (half dead), goes to Connor's house and finds the house broken into and rushes in and kills the bad guys. (I would have let them kill Connor so that I could be free of Connor, honestly. But I might be a sociopath, I don't know.)
Connor apologizes and asks to try again and do it right, like actually spend time together. Jesse agrees to try. Unfortunately, this is at 90%, so we don't get to see the real relationship develop. But I guess I can accept they somehow made it work and got their HEA. I would have liked to see Connor prove himself to be a real man, though.

It's refreshing! Nice to read something different. I'm totally down for messed up, fucked up, flawed MCs. Both MCs are to blame maybe one more than the other. But the point is they fight like real people! And i like that the author didn't try to make excuses for his MC. Simple fact - people do fuck up sometime and they have options to correct it.
It's the book that makes you want to pull your hair out of frustration. I feel for Jesse and i like his headstrong stubborn personality. I don't think what Connor does is infidelity but the fact is he still sleeps around after their bond - so possible trigger there. If you are looking for a book in 'arranged marriage, alpha neglects his omega' trope where one MC is outright asshole and another one is stubborn as a mull (not without justification) then you will enjoy this one.
I liked that the omega was a strong guy, and not one of those wanna-be's that pretend or swear to be strong at the beginning, and then become putty in the alpha's arms anyways. I also enjoyed that the alpha was sort of an idiot and he was blamed a lot, too! The usual perfect, almighty and never-failing alpha gets old, so this aspect really felt fresh here. My favorite character might have been Max though, what a great big bro!
The story was too short for my tastes though, I would prefer a longer, slower buildup and proper dealing with their relationship before a happy ending. Otherwise a fun read!
This had all of the drama I like to see, but Connor was too much of an ass to forgive. Unfortunately, I get that they had to make it work for various reasons, but at the end of the day it's still not love. Not once, even at the end of the story, do either one of them speak, let alone think, of that four-letter-word. I kind of hoped someone would be successful in offing Connor so that Jesse could find a real alpha. Sadly, Jesse's good nature doesn't allow him to let the alpha die on his watch. Jesse really was too good for Connor.

DNF. Horrible book. Main character is a cheating, cold-hearted POS. This book is considered MM romance but there is not an ounce of romance between either character.
Bound Together – Aiden Bates Couldn’t put this down… I have never loved characters this much while spending so much of the book ready to throttle them before. This is not a sweet love story where alpha and omega meet, succumb to their baser instincts and face the threat together as a unified front. Instead, Connor and Jessie are manipulated into a claiming and spend most of their time as their own worst enemies, drawn together but letting their insecurities and false impressions colour every significant conversation. To be honest, I spent about 80% of this book angry with Connor and ready to shake him. Hard. Admittedly, Jessie often behaved like a petulant brat, but Connor’s sense of entitlement and lack of comprehension about omega behavior was beyond frustrating for me. As much as I wanted these two characters to get over their pride and work out their differences, my sympathy for Jessie occasionally left me wondering if Connor actually was the best choice for him. These two characters hypnotized me page after page as they would get so very close to having that epiphany moment only to have one abruptly withdraw from the other. I couldn’t put this down, even if I did come alarmingly close to tossing my tablet in my own petulant fit. Please note that I received a complimentary copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.
I have an abusive love hate relationship with this book, ironically one not too different from the actual relationship being portrayed in the story (if one can even called it that.)
It started with an arrangement that came awfully close to dub-con, that already screamed drama. What I didn't realize, however, is that the angst and drama would continue to be folded over and over for the majority of the book without any consolation or breath space in between. It's so frustrating since half of the drama could have been avoid had the characters just acted more mature more once. Then there were Max and Connors who were both so oblivious and inconsiderate toward poor Jesse that it was hard to belief either of them cared for him as much as they claimed.
The whole situation was almost overbearing, so much that I almost weep in joy when it was finally over and done with. So much that I forgive the rush ending.
Despite all its flaws, and it has many, I did enjoy the book - considering how much of a slut for angst I am. The book has many potential in its plot, however I just wished there were more refinement in its characters.
If this was a 'Choose your own Adventure Book'......
..........then Connor would of died and Jesse would live due to the broken bond (NO Spoilers here!). Unfortunately, this was not a choose your own adventure, and I had to painstakingly read through the story of Connor and Jesse.
I am NOT saying this is a horrible book, more so that it is not my favorite one of the author. With that said, my rating of the book is related to the story itself.
In the beginning, both Connor and Jesse were at fault due to their actions and lack of communication towards each other. However, midway through I felt that it all fell on Connor. The way he acted towards Jesse made me want to constantly strangle him. In the end, it seems like they have a fighting chance for their HEA.
With that said, thanks Aiden for the emotional roller coaster of a story (and letting me vent
The only reason this book got a two star rating instead of one star is because it had a halfway decent ending. The book was well written with only a few errors, which was nice, but other then that it was not to my liking at all. Connor and Jesse get thrust into a relationship, which would suck for anybody, but the worst part is their attitudes towards one another. For me, the two main characters completely ruined this book with their immaturity and their consistent habit of blaming each other instead of actually talking and learning how to compromise. Max, Jesse's brother, is the only one that I actually liked and that only happen sparingly. This whole book just gave me a very negative feel.
I have to admit, I hated Connor for a while and really wanted to slap a couple of the other characters' attitudes. In addition, there were some editing issues that were a little annoying.
That being said, it was a really interesting and enjoyable story. There was a satisfying and plausible resolution to their situation and a HFN/HEA.
Could Kevin get his own story? Maybe end up with Max, who finally admits he's bisexual?
The story line was a good premise but I found that the characters were too antagonistic. Each accusing the other of saying things that the other didn't say. That weird misinterpretation of each others words was annoying by the end...
It got three stars for that reason. I dislike he said / he said stories when all they really had to do was TALK to each other... not AT each other.
***2016 has been a very unstable year. Not only have I lost favourite role models in droves, I have been into dark places more times than I could count. Yes, I experienced highlights as well but the darkness has had a big impact this year and the only way to keep it at bay was reading, mass reading, back to back books with no stopping and no reviewing. I do apologize to all the writers that I won’t be able to review their books yet but I will get to it. Promise!***
I literally wanted to kill Connor he was such a fucking asshole. It was so bad it was shocking. I usually love aiden bates but this book had zero romance just angst, despair, depression, self loathing.
Connor ticked me off throughout almost the entire book. How he treated Jesse kept making me mumble much worse than "jerk! " The story , while ticking me off on a continuous basis, was very good. I wanted to smack some sense into Connor. Max is great...his wife? Didn't care for her at all. All in all , a great story.
Jesse and Connor are perfect ! Perfectly misfits, but it works well. Talk about cross purposes through out a story. Lol !!! Aiden, my friend, you have done it again ! A great story with all the heart soul, and fire one should have. Thank you as always for sharing your talent. Hugs....Kathy
Oh man, this book was intense for me. I was so anxious for Jesse. Conner was such a douche, it made me feel sick to my stomach how irresponsible he was. Jesse had such a rough life. Even though not much is told about his life, it was obvious that it wasn't good. I'm a bit speechless. I'm having a hard time expressing how much this affected me at this moment.
This book was so emotional to me...I cried a few times because it left me frustrated and sorrowful. I did like the story once it ended but I would have love a longer look in after the MCs got it together. This book has action, sexy times, mystery, and a bag full of sadness. Read it!
I didn't hate this book, but I didn't love it either. I found that I was stressed out for at least 65% of the story, as the main characters fought, disagreed, misunderstood, and gave up on eachother. I think I need to take a break from omega/alpha stories for a while - my last 3 reads haven't been very good...even for a guilty pleasure read.
I managed to push on through half this book, hoping that Connor treated Jesse would change, before giving up. Connor is an absolute a**hole. Terrible way to treat his 'mate'.
MM, Alpha/Omega. A great premise with Jesse, the Omega, in a more dominant role. Connor, an Alpha, was all Alpha, but a big jerk. The situation is a tough one for both of them, but Connor makes their relationship impossible. He never wanted to claim an Omega, only to have casual sex. He never learned or paid attention to Alpha/Omega relationships. When Jesse tries to make their relationship work, he turns him down flat, cheats on him, and says that's what Alphas need to do.
