Wayne Walter Dyer was an American self-help author and a motivational speaker. Dyer earned a Bachelor’s degree in History and Philosophy, a Master’s degree in Psychology and an Ed.D. in Guidance and Counseling at Wayne State University in 1970. Early in his career, he worked as a high school guidance counselor, and went on to run a successful private therapy practice. He became a popular professor of counselor education at St. John's University, where he was approached by a literary agent to put his ideas into book form. The result was his first book, Your Erroneous Zones (1976), one of the best-selling books of all time, with an estimated 100 million copies sold. This launched Dyer's career as a motivational speaker and self-help author, during which he published 20 more best-selling books and produced a number of popular specials for PBS. Influenced by thinkers such as Abraham H. Maslow and Albert Ellis, Dyer's early work focused on psychological themes such as motivation, self actualization and assertiveness. By the 1990s, the focus of his work had shifted to spirituality. Inspired by Swami Muktananda and New Thought, he promoted themes such as the "power of intention," collaborated with alternative medicine advocate Deepak Chopra on a number of projects, and was a frequent guest on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

What a find. Wayne Dyer writes, "I believe that you cannot start early enough to teach the essential lessons for living a successful and peaceful life." This book can be read to all age groups. Kids will love thinking and talking about 10 great ways for them to let their greatness shine through. The book might be read and used differently for different age groups.

For K-3, I'm going to read 1 idea at a time during transitions. For 4-5th graders it could be read in one sitting. Some older kids may find the presentation too simple. Followup discussion should be included to invite kids to share their own experiences, thoughts and questions. The questions in the back are excellent for writing prompts and/or discussion starters. Drawings, art projects, journaling, and other curriculum could be student driven.

Dyer also writes, "It is my desire to have all of the children of the world grow up knowing within that they are indeed incredible divine beings. This book was written and designed with this one idea in mind." And lastly, "It is my desire to have these tiny, precious souls close this book and feel so good about themselves that they feel in their hearts that nothing is impossible for them."

In this uplifting rhyming story students are given 10 ways to look at their problems with new perspective. They are encouraged to take challenges head on and look for solutions rather than going to someone else to fix them. What an important message for our children in the age of fostering critical thinking! This book also sheds light upon the value of each person. Rather that seeing differences as a challenge, they are celebrated. As each personal problem example is presented, a useful, flexible strategy is given as to how to address it. Once familiar with these problem solving tips, students will be bouncing with ideas as to how to face their difficulties and help their friends do the same.
Teaching idea: Self-esteem/celebrating diversity. This book is an excellent way to encourage students to find their inner gifts.

INCREDIBLE YOU is a fantastic read, especially for younger-aged children, my kids are ages 5 and 3. My 3-year old refers to this book as, "My book, Mom."

I think its greatest appeal resides in its 10 easy to understand lessons, much like the human hand, I remind my 3-year old with brilliant illustrations by Melanie Siegel that are large [takes up the whole page], colorful, and offer a flair of whimsical creativity.

Best of all, each of the life lessons tie into universal values of kindness, personal empowerment, and social interactivity. As a parent, I leave each reading feeling inspired by the book's content.

It's truly a book for all ages, and what a great reminder that incredible you starts with the reflection that we see staring back at us each day, or in the authors' words: "In your life, plenty has happened so far. That's part of what makes you who you are. But don't worry too much about yesterday. What matter is what you do with today!"

This book is so full of good advice for both children, teens and adults. I love Love LOVE the great advice it gives.

** Talking Points: This book has so many ways that we can care for ourselves. Which do you already do? What do you do with the negative thoughts that you feel? Who and what helps you move from the negative to the positive. Who loves you just the way you are? What do you feel is incredible about you?

** Essential Oil Pairing Tip: I'd pair this book with 2 drops of doTERRA's Forgive essential oil blend (Studies show it's such a wonderful blend to move people from feeling negative emotions to feeling positive emotions) and 2 drops of Bergamot (The Oil of Self-Love and Self-Acceptance.

Summary: In this book the kids are given different perspectives on how to fix some problems. It gives great ways to look at a problem and fix it. It also is showing how to find the true self of you. It has great illustrations to show what they are meaning in the book.

Analysis: I think this is an amazing book to show what kids need to learn and how to accept who they are and how to fix the problems that they are facing. Incredible you is encouraging the kids to not give up and to keep going.

Use in the classroom: This book can be used in the classroom by me giving them a scenario and then they pick out of the ten what would work best for that scenario. How to let themselves shine through also using these top ten ideas.

I loved "Incredible You" because it helps kids want to do what they love and to think positive about themselves. My favorite part is Chapter 6 when the little girl is praying next to her bed for her lost ferret to be found. It says in the script to ask for help when it is needed. I truly believe that every child is filled with love, they just need to bring it out and use it for good! I learned that you shouldn't dwell in the past, but you should take charge in the present and do your best, even if others don't recognize or acknowledge it. I recommend this book to any kid that needs a boost of self-worth and any kid that wants to change their mind-setting.

"Incredible You" by Wayne W. Dyer is an uplifting book that uses simple rhymes to help children learn about loving themselves and being happy. The illustrations are bright and colorful, going along with the positive and uplifting theme. I remember reading this book as a child all the time and feeling great after reading it every time. This book is great for both families and educators to read with children. It can also be great in a lesson activity in which children can write their own reasons why they love themselves!

I'm a huge fan of Wayne Dyer and all of his, "how to be a better person," type books. This one was no exception and beautifully written for children. I especially loved the end where questions are incorporated to reiterate the lessons, make it fun to learn and, most importantly, instill the value of letting your greatness shine through. I highly recommend this book for children of all ages.

Really like the sentiment of this book. That everyone has the power within them to control their day and their thoughts and their positivity. The questions and conversation pieces in the back are particularly good. One star down for the god talk. Nothing wrong with god but our happiness and impact on the world doesn’t have to be tethered to religion.

Dr. Wayne Dyer does not disappoint. We love all his books and use them in addressing every-day issues in our own and our childrens' lives. And my kids love picking up this book and reading it on their own, too! Amazing stuff!

A nice children's book about ways to make your life more positive: do what you love, have a quiet place, make today great, dream, know everyone is special, have positive thoughts, etc. Good for discussion with children and good reminders for adults.

For kindergarten children, this is an excellent book to let children know how great they are as a person. I would use this book in the classroom as an encouragement book to help children to succeed when they are struggling or just want to know how incredible they are.

I think this is a great book to read at the beginning of the year. Using these "rules" can help set up a community in the classroom. This book can also be used with students who are having a hard time, who have self esteem issues, who need confidence. PreK-5
