I've not had much time to read for pleasure lately on account of needing to renew my CCNA certification. One of the difficulties of studying for the CCNA is that there's just so much material out there to choose from. These sources cover all the same objectives but the methodology is slightly different between each instructor. Some of them are able to teach concepts more clearly than others and some cover the material thoroughly but do so in such a dry, monotonous way that it's nearly impossible to retain anything.
Todd Lammle's book covers all you need to know and incorporates enough levity to keep your eyes from glazing over along the way. His coverage of subnetting - which can be a very tricky concept to grasp if it's something you're new to - is the easiest to understand and digest that I've come across. The book has lots of exercises and examples that do a thorough job of helping you remember how to work through all the material and the virtual labs provide valuable hands-on practice. I was able to follow along most of the labs and exercises using Cicso Packet Tracer and though a few of them I couldn't get to work exactly, I was able to understand the syntax of the commands which is the important part.
The only reason I deduct any points was the sluggish online test engine that covers all the practice questions in the book. It's incredibly slow and some of the questions that feature matching or typing a command don't work. This is minor though inconvenient and all the useful information in the book far outweighs it.

Well written. If missing a few things. I read the book and did half the labs (only had access to one router) and managed a pass. But definitely had questions not covered in the book.

Excellent book for people who are studying for their CCNA. I would couple of with the Network+ book of the same publisher if you need a refresher on more basic stuff.

Scattered, but thorough. I'd recommend the Odom guide over this, but the best route would be to work from both.

It's a great book to start your study of the CCNA, but only START. I found Lammle a bit less easy to follow than Wendell Odom, who also publishes CCNA books. However, the big clincher for this textbook in particular is that there were several errors that outright stated the complete opposite from what was right.

One example that immediately comes to mind is that the book claims that a notification is sent whenever a switchport with the port-security violation mode of Protect is enabled, but this is 100% wrong. Protect does NOT send an SNMP trap notification when a violation occurs. The completely misdirectional errors, combined with a few more formatting issues and spelling errors than I felt comfortable with, definitely makes me lean towards Odom's texts more than Lammle's.

Note: Finished reading this in January 2019 but I do not wish for this to show in any of my reading challenges, so it has no date.

While the particular exam this is for has been restructured into a new one with updated curriculum, this book covers the basics for much of the material you need to know to pass the CCNA.
