The Marked #2

Invidious

Rate this book
The steep descent into Hell is always paved with good intentions.
My name is Jemma Blackburn, and I'm a Slayer. Finding out I wasn't human was only the beginning of my problems. My best-friend, Taylor, is still missing, and so is the Immortal Amulet, and it's my job alone to get them both back. I don't know who I can trust, and I'm still not sure I'm cut out for any of this, but I'm determined to figure it all out, or die trying.

As if that wasn't bad enough, there's a new enemy in town and they've come bearing gifts—an ancient prophesy that is going to blur the very lines between good and evil. And, apparently, my blood is tied to the center of it. I don't have all the answers yet, but I’m getting closer and closer to discovering the truth. The truth about my bloodlines, and about who I really am.

And, believe me when I say, it's going to change everything.

This series has so much potential but could the main character be more ignorant, stubborn or reckless? I have raised teenage daughters and they were smarter than this girl. She never listens and is in constant denial. The descriptions of her attraction for the love interest get so nauseating that near the end I wanted her to die. So disappointed.

At first I was like "wait, what!?" and then I was like "omg, yes!" and then I went from "oh no!" to "craaaaap!" and then I ended somewhere between "dreamy sigh" and "nooooo!". An emotional rollercoaster if there ever was one. Deep breath. I need a minute.

Bravo! A lot of times book 2 doesn't live up to the 1st one, but dare I say, it exceeded 'Inception' by leaps and bounds and I didn't think that was possible! And now we are back to the waiting game. Bouncing in my seat for Book 3! Oh and Trace&Jemma? I ship it like Fed-Ex!

This book keeps me on the edge of my seat. I can never tell what is going to happen next.

I like the character development. All throughout this book you can see that Jemma is getting stronger and stronger. She's still a little too in denial for my liking. But I'm guessing that will get better with the next book.

Trace is still a beautiful soul. His love and adoration for Jemma is what I love most about his character. He loves her so fiercely. I love his character.

Dominic, even though he's a Rev, I absolutely adore him. I'm still waiting on him to pour out his undead heart to Jemma. As much as I love Trace and as much as I hate love triangles. I think Dominic could be good for Jemma.

I was not expecting her to be some prophesied Daughter of Hades. That was a surprise. And I'm anxious to find out what happens about that.

The story line is written well in my opinion. I'm not really big on reading about a highschooler but this is a pleasant exception. :D

I hate reading a series when the whole series isn't done :( my mistake ... There was a bit of slow parts but over all a good book especially the last 25% I love the intensity and the build up to an ending. Trace is still my fav but Dominic certainly has a place too

I found Invidious to be entertaining, I like Trace and Dominic is becoming more interesting and saw some growth. We got to learn a little more about whom and what Jemma is and we saw the story move forward. We did end on another cliff hanger that was a bit on the bad side.

In this book it really is Trace that made the story enjoyable, he really carries things and makes me want to know what is going to happen. Trace is probably the most mature and down to earth person in the story, this is including the adults that we didn’t see much of in this installment. Dominic is still a really bad boy but he’s looking like he might not be as bad as people think and may turn out to be a valuable asset to Jemma’s crew.

While I like the general story I’m having a harder time liking Jemma, I kinda want to knock some sense into her; she had a few tstl moments in this book. Jemma is also flirting with being a special snowflake... One thing that drives me crazy with the YA genre is the lack of adult involvement some authors strive for; this book had a serious lack of adult involvement. These teens can run around at all hours with no one missing them, get injured and no one seems to notice, and make lame excuses that just get glazed over. Our bad boy immortal who is an adult really let common sense slide when it came to Jemma going up against Engel. When Taylor is returned it seemed that we ignored issues that would pop up when someone has been missing for over a week, there certainly would be a ton of police involvement even if she lost her memory.

It’s these issues in the story arcs that have me only giving the story 3 stars; I'll probably read the next book. This is a YA novel, the violence was not very graphic and while you have teens angsting about sex they so far haven’t got there yet.

4 Stars!!

This was another re-read for me so I can finish the series. I originally rated this a 5 and I’m dropping a star this go round. I still enjoyed the story and all the characters. I loved Dominic in this one but I hate the pet names he uses for Jemma... every other word. I could totally do without that. Looking forward to finally finishing this series! That cliffhanger was killer and can’t wait to see how everything unfolds in the end.

I really liked this second installment in The Marked series. I love how Jemma keeps evolving and her relationship with Trace is awesome. That is some deep love there. I hate Nikki - she is such a pain. And I was sad when Jemma had Dominic . Love this series.

Bianca Scaroni has done it again- taken me on a riveting roller coaster of a ride that left me panting for more. Invidious is the second book in the marked series and picked up right where Inception (My favorite book of 2015!) left off. I kept telling myself to reread Inception before I started this, it has been 7+ months after all, but I couldn't wait and dove right in. I have a terrible memory when it comes to books-I read at least one per week, usually- but this story was written so beautifully that I was brought back up to speed without it seeming like a redundant retelling of what happened in book 1.
Jemma is one strong chick. She's dealing with a centuries old vampire trying to kidnap her for her special blood, her best friend is missing-taken by said vampire, her one true love has turned against her and betrayed her. Yet she pulls herself out of the misery and stands strong, putting her personal issues aside for the good of her friend.
After several twists and turns, things seem to be working out- then the bottom drops out yet again.
The story is engaging and gripping, the writing flawless. The character development is wonderful- who knew I'd end up liking Dominic? Though I am firmly and irrefutably on Team Trace, I can see the pull. Dominic is dangerous and calculating, yet there's good inside him. He does everything he can to help and protect Jemma. She should be leery of his ulterior motives.....
The romance in the book, though it doesn't go too far, is steamy enough to make my heart race and cause butterflies to erupt in my stomach on more than one occasion. That first bud of lust is exciting and I could feel it through the excellent writing of the author.
There is some cattiness on Jemma's part when it comes to Nikki. Let's remember, though, that despite the terrible burden of responsibility placed on her that she IS still a teenager. I felt her reactions were honest and believable.

Invidious is a great follow up to Inception, a must-read! Five very well-earned stars!

Jemma must find a way to recover the Amulet and her best friend from the clutches of the powerful vampire, Engel, and she only has a couple of weeks to do so. In the meantime, she has to continue to train with Gabriel, unravel her feelings regarding Trace, and concoct a plan to defeat Engel. Dominic has offered to help, especially when she needs to find out what effect her blood has on Revenants (he is eager to taste it again). Her blood seems to be the key to her future.

Book 2 was an improvement on book 1. There were only a few instances where the author threw some new terminology at us. There was, however, a HUGE plot hole with regard to the Amulet. I have some suspicions as to why that might be, but evidently, the author is waiting for a future book to remedy it. At the moment, there isn't even a hint to show that anyone other than me noticed the inconsistency. Normally, something like that would bug me enough to put me off a series unless I really liked the characters (these characters are just ok). It just so happens that I have a need to read titles starting with the letter "I" at the moment, so I will likely continue the series this month. I hope that book 3 will be another improvement.

Still as vomit-inducing as ever. After I hated detested the first book, I shouldnt have touched this one with an 80 foot pole, but my reading ocd kicked in and I did. But even that can't make me keep reading it.

I'm done with whats-her-face's monologues about StefanTrace. I'm done with all the ridiculousness that is her and Damon Domnic. I'm done with the overdone cheese fest cliches. And the storylines that make no sense. Jemma is ''supposed'' to be a ''slayer'', but she does no slaying, looses in fights, makes empty threats, stupid promises and worse decisions.

Just done.

It's a fast-paced and page-turning series, even though it trips over one clichè after the other, following the classing ya fantasy story line. 3.5/5 stars

The introduction wasn't as captivating as Inception, but the whole plot and story was just as amazing. With all the character lines intertwining together to form this amazing piece of work <3

I strangely sort of ship Dominic and Jemma. Dominic has that old-lover kind of vibe. (Calling Jemma "Love" and all :D)

Throughout the book, there's wasn't anything boring and I was find just reading through. But real stuff really gets down when we finally find out what Jemma's true identity is. Hade's descendant.
I was so immersed in the book that I was making actual remarks out loud like a crazy person I am.
"If what your Sister is saying is correct, your blood is prophesied to bring on the end of days, love. To unleash Lucifer and open the very Gates of Hell. Permitting you to live means the Order is willing to risk the end of the world, which I assure you, they are not. Duty first, remember?"

The ending was so exciting though! With Jemma bleeding profusely and all. I hope she joins forces with Hades and torture that delusional bitch Nikki.

I think I actually enjoyed the second book a little more then the first. I think it was the budding romance between Jemma and Trace that I love so much. I action and the twist were definitely there to keep the story line interesting. I'm anxious to start the third book. I'm sure it won't take me long to devour that also.

Jemma is a Slayer, her human BFF Taylor is being held hostage in return for the Amulet, Angels and Revanants are a thing, Trace has betrayed her, and on top of it she’s suffering a massive hangover. Can’t get worse, right?

Dominic and Jemma agree to put aside their differences and work together to retrieve the Amulet because if they don’t, all Hell will break loose, literally. Jemma and company’s main goal is to kill Engel, an evil Revenant and rescue her friend Taylor.

Jemma’s powers are still hidden from the cloaking spell meant to keep her safe, but she knows she’s something more than just a Slayer. Once Jemma’s sister Tessa tells her everything, Jemma understands why she’s been so sheltered her whole life. Her parents sacrificed themselves for her because of her blood line. And now Jemma faces the most dangerous fight of her life.

Book two really started ramping up the plot. And I just love Scardoni’s characterizations! She’s got some of the best and baddest boys ever! I am totally Team Dominic now, and growing more so by the day. I’m feeling love for the love triangle!

Where to start? I hardly ever write reviews but this book has me fangirling all over.

I loved that this book not only picked up where we left off but had a great story line throughout building to the next book without taking away from the plots in this book.

The main characters can all hold their own within the story line. It's paranormal without all the same crap you read in every young adult paranormal book. Characters are well thought out and written about each with their own personality. Jemma is a herione who can do so much and is not written as a side kick but the main character she is meant to be.

Amazing book that can and will be read over and over again, I definetly recommend everyone to read as I feel its got it's tags but is a book for anyone who loves a great plot line.

I’m so pissed. Can the main character be anymore stupid. Like it’s almost unrealistic how stupid she is. By the end of the book I’m so annoyed at her. Am I going to read the 3rd book? Yeah but please. I’m rooting on the author to please please redeem this character. The potential of the story is good but for the love of anything good in this world, she needs more brain cells and can she fight back to save her damn life too? The damsel in distress is getting me up to my neck. Isn’t she a “slayer”!? Anyway, off to the 3rd book, I’m hoping. HOPING. That this will be better.

I need the third book in this series like yesterday! This book did not disappoint. I was glued to the book and every word wondering what the outcome would be. I loved Jemma and Trace, but I also liked Jemma and Dominic. I knows he’s one of the bad guys but i just couldn’t help liking them together. I could’ve lived without that cliffhanger. Now I’m left wondering what’s to come in the third installment of this series.

A sweeping fantasy that takes you away

This book has all the elements you could ask for in a fantasy paranormal romance. The overall plot and villains work and flow right, the young girl trying to find herself in a new world and the youthful love that is blossoming. This is a YA so don't expect mature decisions or emotions from any of the characters. The ending was great and now on to the next one!

That ending!

It's hard to tell who to trust and who's plotting against Jemma other than a select few. That makes everything so much more darker and dangerous as we can never tell who's going to come out and attack from what direction. The story is definitely getting darker now and I feel like it's going to get a lot more darker

3,5 stars. I liked how Jemma developed in this book, though I wished sometimes she'd be more badass ;-) The cliffhanger in the end leaves me with no choice but to wait until the sequel comes out and hope for Jemma in the mean time.

The 2nd installment in the mark series has been by far my favorite.

The evolution of Jemmas character as she goes from “damsel in destress” to owning her Morningstar blood was very enjoyable and kept me cheering her on instead of rolling my eyes like I did on the first one.

Dominic is still my favorite character. It’s a Damon from VD all over again and I’m not mad

As much as I liked this book, for me, it didn't seem like it went anywhere until the very end. From book one I had higher hopes for the series and maybe book three will be better. It is probably more like 3.5 star. I like the Jemma triangle that seems to be happening between her, Trace and Dominic to a certain degree, but I just feel like I have read this dynamic before. Then the whole relationship between her and her sister and Gabriel. I don't know, I just wanted more. Maybe I will get it next book.

This was a huge disappointment compared to book 1. I enjoyed that one but with this one I had a hard time. Jemma was just too stupid for me. I found myself constantly being angry with her and her actions. That's when I knew this wasn't for me anymore. I can only handle so much stupidity.
