Slate Rawlings keeps mobsters out of prison, but now he’s tasked with defending an innocent women who makes him imagine all the naughty things he can do to her…
Slate battled his way to the top and now he’s the most successful lawyer in the city. His clients have pasts even darker than his, so he avoids honest, decent women.
The moment he sees kindergarten teacher Rose, however, he’s overcome by desire. She has blue eyes, pale skin and legs made to wrap around his hips. He wants to push her sweet body against the wall and f**k her until she cries out in complete surrender, but she deserves better than the monster hiding inside him.
Only Slate can’t leave Rose alone because he’s the only one who can save her.
And eventually he knows he won’t be able to resist temptation.
Blackened soul or not, he’s going to make Rose his in every way imaginable.
I was provided a copy as Hard Case in exchange for an Honest review. I liked this story better than the first. however, it felt forced. If Conrad had made the book longer, I think there could have been more of a natural progression for Rose and Slate to get together. The way it happened, just felt wrong. I don’t want to spoil anything but I was shaking my head thinking WTF?!. The only redeeming factor, was Rose was doing the same.
The back story started in Hard Time #1; yet we get enough information, that you can read Hard Case as a standalone. The way it looks, is each book in the series is going to be about one of the members in Nailed MC; with a bigger backstory going on between all the books. I was disappointed because I thought the hard working sister Dee, from book one was going to get a HEA. Oh well. Maybe if I keep reading the series?
Hard Case has a mix of suspense and mystery. Along with some pretty hot and intense love scenes between Rose and Slate. But some of the descriptions! OMG I laughed. “Rock hard flesh rod” That one brought me to a fit of giggles!
Criminal defense for an innocent takes things on a high ride for this defense attorney that works for the worst of the worse.
Things a heating up for the Hard as Nails crew. Things this time has Slate in the mix of it all with his temptingly sweet innocent school teacher, Rose. He wants her with a desire he has never felt before. Slate Rawlings is . . . Rich, smooth, and powerful. He also keeps the bad boys out of prison. He's worked hard to get where he was.
Rose & Slate has the sweet kindergarten teacher taming the dominating and powerful defense attorney. Rose is no withering flower. This is the 2nd in the Hard as Nails Series. Each one better than the last.
I enjoyed Slate & Rose book. It was little shorter then what I was expecting. The relationship build fell short for me. It happened quite instantly which seemed to rush the story. But the book was still entertaining & steamy!
She did it to me again. I was up all night stuck in this book. I just could not put it down. This series of books may be fast reads, but well worth it. I loved the bad guy gone good underling story. This is the first book in the hard as nails series, where 5 friends that grew up through adversity and did what they had to, to survive. But at 18 all went in together and all go straight, till one of them ended up in Jail and the others did what they had to, to get him out. Hope may be a new author, but she came out with one hell of a first book and her 2nd is even better. The story is well thought out and flows so well that you can get totally lost in the story and loose all track of time. Hence the sleeping till noon as I finally went to sleep at 8am.
This book is Slate and Rose’s story. Slate is a hot shot Lawyer with that bad boy edge to him. And Rose is the sweet kindergarten teacher who is has shot her husband and killed him. Now it is up to Slate to save her, and he will do whatever it takes to save her, even go up again of the King of crime. Rose is suspicious of Slate she knows he has a connection to some bad guys, but she thinks he’s a lawyer of course he is acquainted with bad men. When he takes her to his home to protect her, she keeps having these naughty thoughts about slate. And in one night of terror from nightmares, slate is immediately there to take care of her. And well that is where it all begins. But one night while looking on the net she sees something that has her running. And know it is up to slate to prove he loves her and will take care of her. Have to read to see if he can.
Now before I ruin this for you I will leave off here. I hope you enjoy this book as much as I did. If you do like this book, please consider leaving a review. The Authors really like it when you do; they value your opinions too.
**I received a copy of Hard Case from N Kuhn and EBooks Galore in exchange for an honest review**
Hard Case is book two in the Hard as Nails Series by Hope Conrad each can be read as a stand alone or with the series. I really liked this addition to the series because of the chemistry between Slate and Rose.
Rose Carter a Kindergarten teacher finds herself in jail for killing her husband who has become paranoid and jittery in the past few months. She files for separation having made him move out but after six months of Josh showing up with a gun he arrives one night explaining his plans of murder suicide which he says will take care of all the demons. She defends herself with her own gun and ends up in jail. What she doesn't know is why Josh was like he was or that she's getting one of the top lawyers to defend her Pro Bono. There's alot she will learn about her husband that Slate will discover while they try to fight their attraction to each other.
Slate Rawlings is a defense lawyer who has been hired by King a shady mobster that all of the men of Nailed Garage have known since they were at the orphanage together. He gladly takes on Rose's case even knowing that King has something to do with what Josh was doing and what he had to do with it. When Rose and Slate succumb to their desires, King wants to make sure that she never finds out and Slate agrees with him wholeheartedly. Add in shady characters who break into her house and destroy it, the unfolding of why Josh was really doing and the romance happening between them and you get a darn fine story. I really enjoyed reading this book and have already started book three.
The Hard as Nails Series is fabulous. Here we have Rose Carter, a kindergarten teacher, and a loving wife. She thinks her life with her high school sweetheart was just fine. But everything starts going wrong when her husband starts doing things out of the ordinary. The chain of events that follow soon land her in jail for killing her own husband. Did she ever think her life would come to this? It was either shoot or be shot. Not only is she surprised when a defense attorney by the name of Slate Rawlings bails her out and also defends her, but when her suspiscions slowly morph into truth, she doesn't know what to do. Slate Rawlings finds himself in a love at first sight predicament and he'll do anything for her. Having to defend Rose isn't the hard part, but keeping her safe from the bad guys is a battle he's willing to fight. Their chemistry soon develops into wanting from both sides. Although Rose didn't want to start over, she soon finds herself wanting what Slate can give her, and for the first time, Slate needs to have her in his life.
The characters in this series fall hard for the woman they choose. I'm so glad that I read this book because not only is it a fresh style of writing that I love, but it's always good to see a different range of scenarios. I would definitely recommend Hope Conrad's series to anyone looking for a great read. Why the series? Because one book just won't be enough.
As the story opens, Rose Carter is in jail for killing her husband in self defense. Enter hot shot defense attorney Slate Rawlings who announces he has taken her case pro bono and he's there to bail her out. Slate has secrets he can't share with Rose, including the truth of why he is involved in her case, but he is going to do his absolute best to keep her safe and out of prison, while trying to control his lust for her. After everything she has been through, Rose is understandably suspicious of his motives but as her trust in Slate grows, so does her desire for him. Is their passion for each other strong enough to survive the truth when Slate's secrets are revealed?
This story is told with alternating viewpoints, which I love. Slade and Rose are both strong characters in this red-hot romantic suspense story which is a good follow up to the first book in the series, Hard Time. I am excited to read the next book of this excellent series. My rating for this book is 4.5 stars.
I received a copy of this book in return for an honest review.
Slate is a defense attorney that is chosen to defend Rose from murder charges. Rose doesn't know how she got Slate as a defense attorney and how she got to this place. Rose can't believe all this happening because she was just a school teacher. Slate is determined to help Rose out and find out who did this but what he isn't expecting is the immediate attraction and chemistry that they have. Little does Rose know that Slate wants her to be his and his only.
I thought this was a great follow up to the first book in this series. Slate is summoned to get Rose out of jail by King and he doesn't know why. Slate is determined to protect Rose and make her believe in men again even though he doesn't know why he is doing it at the time. The chemistry between Rose and Slate is immediate and hot!!! Rose gets under his skin and he knows deep down that she is his!! I cannot wait to read the rest of this series!!!
**I was given a complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review**
Slate and Rose so far are my favorite couple. Slate has worked his way up from doing the illegal activities in the orphanage to being one of the highest paid attorney. But one favor to get Street out of prison has him working again with the scum and walking the line between illegal and legal activity. Rose has live the fairytale life, until her husband got caught up in some activities that cause him to stress and become paranoid. When she's jailed for shooting him in self-defense she meets the sexy and suave attorney defending her in court. I love that Slate was able to bring out the dirty in this sweet kindergarten teachers as well as Rose able to show Slate that the past doesn't define someone, but helps make them stronger. This is definitely a series I will continue to read. Can't wait to see if these guys are able to get out from under King's thumb again.
I liked Hard Case by Hope Conrad. It reminded me of a gritty fairy tale. Rose is in jail for the murder of her husband. Slate has decided to take her case pro bono. However, there are other motives behind Slate taking Rose's case. Rose is as innocent as they come and Slate is going to prove that she acted in self defense. Along the way, Rose loses herself to Slate. However, things get complicated when his past comes to light. Will Rose be able to forgive Slate when she learns of his link to her husband's bizzare behavior before his death?
Hard Case gave us an interesting darker read. It was gritty, dark, dramatic, suspenseful, and erotic. It was easy to get lost in the characters and the story line. I was rooting for Rose to get a happy ever after. You couldn't help but like her character. The Hard as Nails series gives us some hot Alpha males and Slate definitely delivered in that category. A hot read.
This murder mystery starts off with a bang! Rose is in a life & death struggle and ends up traumatized and in jail. Slate is a slick lawyer that has been hired by some unknown benefactor to represent and protect her. The suspense is intense, the source of the threats is unknown, there is a powerful mystery man somewhere in the background and the plot thickens and becomes complicated when Slate & Rose deal with a strong attraction between them. Rose was so wounded by her husband's betrayal that she swears off letting any man ever again get close to her. Slate is so eat up with shame, guilt and regret from his past that he feels unworthy of the sweet, kindergarten teacher. He refuses to offer more than a physical release. Their adventure makes for an exciting, suspenseful and thrilling read. I was given an ARC in exchange for an honest review. Five stars.
This second book in the series definitely didn't disappoint! Slate is coerced to accept a case where a husband was killed by his wife. Rose is the wife! Rose is 'just a school teacher' as she says and next finds herself charged and in prison! She is amazed that someone of Slate's stature wants to defend her. Slate and Rose feel more than just confused about the case! This is a sensual, passionate, suspense fill story that was a little darker than the first book and extremely easy to become attached to the characters. Hope's fast paced story makes you crave more! The underlying story from the boys childhood continues to be intriguing and left with a need to know more. I really like the way this at hot combines characters that would fit the 'opposites attract' theory. The plot is sensational in this book and I look forward to reading the next one.
Slate Rawlings, is the best defense attorney in the state, who spends time getting criminals off. Yet when Slate is asked to take on a case of Kindergarten teacher who happens to be innocent. Slate wants her badly knowing he shouldn't get involved with her. Rose Carter can't believe her husband is dead at her hand but it's the truth sadly. Rose knows she should be grieving yet can't help the desire she feels for Slate. Can Slate move on from his past? Will Rose make Slate want to be a better man? Your answers await you in Hard Case.
This series is really heating up. Slate and Rose's story is about redemption and caring for someone else above yourself most of all. I'm anxious to get my hands on the next book Hard Core.
This second book in the series features another tough man finding the woman who can really change his life. She is locked up and needs his talent as an attorney. He is not sure why he has been asked to help her but once he meets her, he is determined to save her.
I liked how these two very different types really connected. The attraction hits them hard and fast. He wants to protect her but she doesn't want to be kept at a distance. They generate some real heat.
Each book can be a standalone but I do encourage you to read the series. Each book has really delivered a good mix of action and romance and a lot of heat.
This book is Slate and Rose’s story. Slate is a bad boy Lawyer and Rose is a kindergarten teacher who needs Slate's help. Rose is still in shock about the changes in her husband and what she was forced to do.
When Slate see's Rose for the first time he is immediately drawn to her and helping her is just the beginning. This story takes off and will keep you up all night. You will not want to put it down until your done.
You don't need to read book #1 but I suggest it so that you can get the history. 1-click and get started today on this great series.
This book was better than the last in the series. The writing had fewer holes in the plot line. The story was more believable, and it was a little better on seeing the connection and possibility or love more than lust. I wish we had seen more from the heroine's Point of view. We didn't get much from her other than what she did for a living and a small part of her relationship with her ex-husband. I didn't feel connected to her. I felt the author had more of a connection to the hero and it came out in the writing in the way he was portrayed and better described.
I received this for my honest review. This is Slate and Rose’s story, Slate is a hot shot lawyer with a bad boy edge to him and Rose is the sweet kindergarten teacher who has shot and killed her husband in self defence but is Slate able to save her in more ways than the obvious he may even have to go against the King of crime. This story will definitely have you gripped right to the end for all the right reasons and I don't want to spoil it but will say there is a lot more going on under the surface....... brilliant characters and plot can't wait to read more.
This is the second book in the Hard as Nails series. This book is about Slade and Rose. Slade is a defense attorney who is summoned to defend Rose who killed her ex husband in self defense. Both are thrown together by unfortunate circumstances but through the mess they find each other. I really liked this book. I loved the suspense, action, and the hot steamy moments. I devoured the book from beginning to end. I can't wait for the next installment of this amazing series. Highly recommend!!!
Slate is a attorney who keeps everyone out of jail even the mob so why does he want to help a kindergarten teacher Rose. In jail for murdering her husband after he comes at her extremely paranoid and welding a knife. Slate agrees to defend her and gets her out on bail and stays with her after coming under fire. But does Slate have a different agenda? Can Rose trust him? Will a secret destroy all? Second book in this series
Loved this book. Slate is so bad, but does have a lot of good in him and Rose is a sweet woman who finds herself in trouble. I love when a good girl can make a bad boy into a taken man! I loved the flawless way the book flowed! I recieved this book for an honest review.
This is a fast paced steamy read. Slate is one of the best defense attorneys in the state. When he is asked to defend Rose, a kindergarten teacher, he wants more than a victory. I really liked Slate, smart and sexy. I loved the story as well as the characters a great read!
Good thing it was short. Really ridiculous story with very redeeming it. Basically sex and sex and more sex - which is fine - but the story didn't even make sense.
This was a very interesting storyline with very strong lead male and female roles. Rose was first portrayed as very vulnerable and fragile, and Slate came across as charismatic and sly, if not sleazy. However, as the story progressed it was amazing to see both characters morph into much stronger and durable individuals. I particularly enjoyed the attraction between Rose and Slate, as in opposites attracting with super magnetism. I found this story fast-paced and very enjoyable. I can't wait to read more in this series. Very Enjoyable Story!!!
