He quit his high-stress job, sold his high-rise condo, and left his high-maintenance girlfriend behind to start over in Nashville. Three years later, his band Wilder is still struggling for the recognition they deserve and his hopes aren’t what they used to be. Out of the blue he gets a call that an ex-girlfriend passed away – leaving him a child he didn’t know he had. To make matters worse, his six year old daughter, Andie, is a demon.
Kelsey Conklin never had the good life.
She’s always taken care of everyone and everything around her, including her entire family. But now it’s just her and her two kids. She’s packed up her past and moved them all to Nashville to start over. All she really wants is a quiet life and she’s pretty sure she knows how her story works.
But JD and Andie need her. And it turns out that she and her kids need them, too. Somewhere along the way, JD becomes something she can’t live without, and something she never thought she’d have.
With a little ingenuity, they can make this work. And maybe JD knows what she needs better than she ever did...

I picked up Our Song by Savannah Kade free on Amazon during a Book Bub special and I am so glad I did because not only did I get a fantastic book, but I’ve found another author to love. There was so much I enjoyed about this book including that it featured two single parents trying to figure out a new normal and leaning on one another and forming a friendship that turns into more even though they refuse to admit it or acknowledge it. I loved the rich plot, the well developed characters, and the slow burn of this endearing and emotional romance.
Sometimes you read a book and you know in the first chapter that you’ve stumbled on something fantastically different and wholly engaging and that is exactly how I felt when I began Our Song. I felt for JD, a man who finds himself a father to a 5 year old he knew nothing about, but was trying his hardest to make his daughter feel safe, accept his life has been changed in an instant while working to get his band, Wilder, discovered. While JD felt Kelsey saved him, little did he know that he and his daughter, Andie actually helped her to really begin living her life again. I loved the way their friendship began, how their lives kind of melded into a pseudo family without them even trying, and the way JD and Kelsey helped each other even though JD believed he owed Kelsey more than he could ever repay.
With JD’s daughter and Kelsey’s son and daughter there was never a dull moment especially when you add in the other members of Wilder. Through it all JD and Kelsey had their ups and downs, but they never gave up on one another and worked to keep their friendship alive even when they both wanted more but were afraid to admit it.
If you enjoy a feel good story packed with lots of emotion, fantastic characters, and a well deserved happily ever after then do yourself a favor and pick up Our Song now.
P.S. I loved this book so much, I immediately went and bought the boxed set of all 4 books and I can't wait to dive into the other three!
I'm really not entirely sure how to rate this book. This is a slow burner romance and when I mean slow, I really mean slow. It went at a snails pace which isn't necessarily bad. I enjoy how the author’s main focus is on the family and friends aspect and how success comes second but also plays an important part.
JD is trying to hit the big time with his band but on top of leaving his cushy job he then finds out that he has a daughter. What I liked is that we see JD with when he already has Andie and that he can’t cope at all. He has no idea what to do with a five year old. All is not what it seems with Andie but sometimes it is about doing the right thing in life more than anything else.
Kelsey is a one of a kind woman. She has taken care of everyone in her life but no one has ever taken care of her. After the death of Andrew she has been going through the motions while moving to Nashville she looks after Daniel and Allie her children. Her family background is complicated to say the least.
While at Target she sees the temper tantrum that Andie throws and takes pity on JD. Turns out they are neighbors. Small world right?
Throughout their interaction with one another and getting to know one another they become closer but due to the friendship they start to have feelings for one another.
There were times where they just couldn’t get their heads out of there arses. Those times were often and my kindle nearly suffered under their pig-headedness. But I can say that it drove me bat shit crazy well the main characters did at least. I was inpatient and they were just prolonging the inevitable.
Usually I don't like the whole older woman, younger man even it is only about two year difference but this was surprisingly good.
In my personal opinion I thought the book could have been shorter with the story tightened up here and there. There was too much or their daily routine. I can't imagine how hard that must be to balance out. There were also times where I got confused with all the names that were similar Andie was JD’s kid which was ok. But the author kept on chucking Andi/Andrew in for the one character. Please stick to one name.
A good, strong start to a promising series. My most anticipated book is either Alex/TJ. So that means if you haven't figured it out then I will continue with the series once the others are out.
So after a week of not getting my head out of me arse and thinking how to rate it I have decided to give it 3.5 Stars.
I loved this book. I love the premise for the book and the characters. I was sad it took so long for the two to admit there feeling to each other. But then again I m a very impatient person so it is what it is. I'd love to read more of this authors books. This was my first time reading hers.
Our Song was my first Savannah Kade book, and certainly not the last one. I found this book as a free e-book in the Kindle store when I was in the mood for a romance book. I read the summary, and it was an interesting one. The premise of two single parents helping each other, building relationships, friendships and family is something that you don't see in this kind of books. It is a slow burner love as well as the pacing; I deduced a star because sometimes I wanted the characters to get together. The other reason that I lowered my rating is that Kesley wasn’t open with JD about her true story about her family. I love the three childre, Daniel, Andie and Allie. In Greek we say from a crazy person and a child you learn about the truth. They were sweet. It is the second book that I am amazed with the male main character that is a gentleman, his mama taught him how to behave and how to treat man. This is the second book I find to be surprised that the male character is a dream man, is someone that is very hard to find in real life. The group, The Wilders are also very united, and this book for me teaches when you have good friendships and good family relationships thing go the way that you want, everyone knows to give a hand during good time but especially during bad times. I am for sure going to look for this book and the other books of this series in their physical form, and I will be reading Savanah Kade’s other books as well
I just finished this book and let me tell you this a lovely love story written by @savannahkade. Like going into this book I didn’t really know what it was about I just it was a guy that was in band and he wrote a song about a girl he met one night and never saw her again but that the case in this book. JD and Kelsey story was unbelievable because she was a single mom with two kids and he was learning to become a dad after a flame had passed away and leaving behind a young child that had just lose the only person she knew and loved.

I really enjoyed this slow burn! A lot of people said she could have cut a lot about their daily lives out, but that's why I enjoyed the book so much. I'm not in a hurry to get to the end, I want to know the characters! The only reason this didn't get 5 starts was because of the Andy plot line. It was very confusing, and, at times, it seemed like the author didn't even know who Andy was to Kelsey.
3 stars, struggled to rate. I enjoyed it except for the parts I didn't. two categories: things that bugged me (any one of which I could have probably overlooked), and the last ~15% of the story.
things that bugged me, in no particular order: - soda - why was it such a big deal that Kelsey liked to drink a soda in the mornings? loads of people drink coffee... - Kelsey making several (internal) comments about this or that being slutty (mainly the way she was or was not dressed) - really? why? could we move beyond the 1950s? - Bethany watched the three kids (all ~6 or under) overnight - what? isn't Bethany a senior in HIGH SCHOOL? who leaves three kids overnight with a senior in high school? how could she take them to school and pick them up? didn't she have school to attend herself? - Andrew was her - photography - if Kelsey just happened to be a super talented photographer, why hadn't she been doing it all along? just too convenient. - age difference - my goodness, she was barely 2-3 years older than JD; that hardly counts as an age difference and both of them made it out to be a huge deal in their heads. if the situation was reversed and it was a 32 year old man and a 29 year old woman, it would be a total non-issue. - church - just ugh.
beyond those specific annoying things, I liked the book until the last part. it devolved into stupid miscommunication/misunderstanding on both their parts and I felt like they were TSTL for how long it took them to work things out.
it's too bad because I really liked a lot of things about the writing and about the characters; this had a lot of potential, it just didn't completely deliver for me.
This sweet story is unique in that it features a band BEFORE it becomes famous so the heroine gets in on the "ground floor" so to speak.
While I enjoyed the book and the main characters, Kelsey and J.D., at times, Kelsey seemed like a supporting character in her own story. Kelsey helps J.D. adjust to sudden fatherhood while raising her own two kids (one of whom is her brother's child) and getting J.D.'s band on the map. In a word, Kelsey was a candidate for sainthood which was part of my problem with the book. It wasn't that Kelsey was a doormat, she was just so self-sacrificing that I was just waiting for J.D. to sow his wild oats elsewhere why Kelsey took care of everything at home.
J.D., while younger than Kelsey, was a likable character who was mature and very grounded. He floundered at his newfound fatherhood as I would have expected anyone, man or woman, to do if in the same situation. I can't really say that he rose to the challenge because really, Kelsey did most of the heavy lifting. However, J.D. made some key decisions about his life which were made to put his daughter first so I had to give him props for that.
Of course, misunderstandings between Kelsey and J.D. made for a long, drawn out relationship that could have been easily resolved had they just had an honest conversation. Considering how close they were, the fact that they didn't talk things out in order to get their crap together was frustrating and, well, dumb.
J.D.'s bandmates were fun and I look forward to Alex's story next. All in all, not a bad read.
This is the first book in the series The Wilder Books and its a great emotional read that will take your emotions on a rollercoaster ride. Its a single parent, friends to lovers contemporary romance book that i really enjoyed.
JD and Kelsey fought their feelings for a long while and both went through a very lot before they realized the feelings they have matter and acted on them. Kelsey will do absolutely anything for anyone no matter what and after starting over she feels like no hopefully things will get better.
JD is still trying to make the band big and after taking a risk he's hoping things will take of. After a chance meeting with Kelsey they become friends and both their lives change.
This is a slow burn romance with friends who become what lovers need. I loved the way that this author has written these characters and I felt like they were real people. I loved this love story and I love that 2 single parent families can become one. At times this slow burn love was a tad too slow but I still loved this love story between two people that deserve it. I can't wait to read more in this series.
Honestly I was a bit skeptical when first opening this book of just how good a read it would be. The blurb read well but so had many others by others authors which had invariably been the only good part of the book. This story however, was a hidden gem. A proper book not a novella with various misunderstandings for both main characters. A little more clarity on some points would have been nice however, they could be deduced by random comments or thoughts as the book progressed. I loved the story and found it hard to put the book down. I truly wanted to know what was going to happen with these two little families and the story continued to draw me in. I was not left with a burning need to read the next book though which was a shame and one of the reasons for only a four star review. I would suggest this book as a complex yet light-hearted read with a HEA.
What an interestingly romantic story in Our Song by Savannah Kade. I am a big fan of this author! This author brings the story to life. The characters had a lot of depth, and were very real. Kade introduces the "rockstar romance" to the reader by bringing us in JD's life, and how it is complicated, and in disarray. In comes Kelsey, trying to be just his friend. There is a lot going on, and it's not just about hiding feelings from each other or just being afraid. There is more than one plot, and even though their lives are chaos, the book was written very well. I love it when a Legacy author sends me more of their work! It’s one of those embraceable stories. If you like a good (almost famous) rockstar romance this book should be next on your list. This author not only tells the story but shows it with words as well. Our Song is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I look forward to reading many more titles by this author.
I had to put this book down three times, and was annoyed each time: once to go to bed, once to go to work, and finally because it was over. I really didn't want to put it down at all. It sucked me into the story from the beginning.
Savannah Kade really pulls together a romance that works with the blended, non-traditional family aspect. There are sweet and friendly aspects, and there are hot and sexy aspects, and despite it being a bumpy road to get them together, in the end they have a very happily ever after.
I love how JD looks good. Period, it doesn't matter how he's dressed. He looks great as the slightly disheveled rocker boy, He's handsome in a business suit, no awkward transition, and he even looks good in the whole cowboy hat and cowboy boot thing.
I dont typically listen to country/rock, but by the end of the book I was ready to go get a Wilder CD!
I really liked this book! it was a sweet story, and I liked how it focused on the family aspect, and real life situations, and was very relate-able in the way, that you could seriously see this happening in real life, and most likely has happened to multiple people in some form or another.
*****Spoiler Coming**I totally thought that the guy she was referring to the whole time was her husband too, just like the characters. So it was fun to experience as the reader being tricked by the author too just like the characters in the book were. One thing I really like about this book and others like it, is that I can read it for free on my phone and tablet through google play.
So when I am having trouble going to sleep at night I can still read it and not disturb my roommate doing so. definitely going to read more books by Savannah Kade
This was one angst filled book! Well written, great character development for not only the main but also the secondary characters. Pulls you in to want to finish out the series. With that being said, these 2, Kelsey and JD, frustrated the ever-loving crap out of me! I am all for a slow burn romance but this one just went too far, took forever for these 2 to figure it out. All of which could have been avoided had they had an actual conversation. Too many assumptions and no talking had me yelling at the book. If you can deal with that, then this was a great book, you won't regret reading. Frustrated me a bit too much to love though. I will have to try another Savannah Kade book in a bit to get the bad taste out of my mouth. Haha. I am one impatient reader.
This is the first book in the Wilder Books series by Savannah Kade. Kelsey, a woman who has built a peaceful life by keeping the world at arm’s length. JD is a musician whose life is thrown into chaos when he discovers he has a five-year old daughter named Andie he never knew about. As JD struggles to balance his band’s dreams with newfound fatherhood, Kelsey finds herself drawn into his world. Their connection grows, but JD’s unpredictable life threatens the stability Kelsey has worked so hard to maintain. This emotional novel is the first book in the Wilder series, offering a mix of music, love, and personal growth. The chemistry between the characters felt genuine and tender, and their journey from companionship to love was both emotionally satisfying and beautifully paced. It’s a captivating story that will leave readers smiling long after finishing the book.
It seems like forever since I read a romance novel with a hero and heroine who were such real people! Kelsey is just about every single mom in the world, holding everything together for everyone, with little to no money and no help, no matter what it costs her personally. The fact that she shares her hard-earned knowledge with fledgling father JD is also so typical of those heroic moms, who know from their own experience how hard and lonely it is to be in that position. The whole story is so realistic, it just spoke to me like Kelsey and JD were friends of mine, and I was rooting for them from the first page on. Am going to watch for more from this author. Thanks for the best romance I've read in ages!
I was hard pressed to get into this story. I had high hopes given my love of the authors other stories but I found this hard to get into. There was way too much focus on a 3 year age difference. It sounded as if Kelsey was a cradle robber going after a man not even in his 20s yet. I also found the story of Andy confusing as it was purposely vague. There were many times that I was left scratching my head to exactly who he was. One minute the story led you to believe he was her husband, then some other person closer to her than a friend and finally perhaps family. As a reader I don't want to be confused to what is happening even if a character or two are in the dark.
Finally in the last quarter of the book I was getting interested and couldn't wait to see how it ended
Single mom Kelsey finds a disheveled little girl and her daddy JD at Walmart and offers to help the little girl try on clothes. Afterwards Kelsey & JD discover their neighbors and a friendship forms as she helps him navigate being a new dad to a child he only learned he had. JD is in a band, one that is trying to make a name for itself playing local venues.
Kelsey helps promote the band Wilder and both JD & Kelsey begin to have feelings but are sure the other doesn’t reciprocate.
This is an incredible slow burn, it wasn’t until more than half way into it that their relationship moves along and I found I was skimming through pages to find progression in the story. Once found, things moved quickly along a rocky road including misunderstandings, JD’s band’s success and finally the hea.
Kelsey made a point of being thoughtful instead of reactionary. After finding JD struggling with his little 5–year old girl, Andie, she felt she had to step in. After finding out they were neighbors, she just had to help.
JD, twenty-nine and never married, was instantly a dad. DCF practically dropped her on his doorstep after her mother died. Little Andie refused to make it easy on her new dad. He welcomed any help he could get.
Kelsey’s life has been about overcoming obstacles and taking care of her children. So she was touched even more when she learned the truth about JD and little Andie’s mother. Would there own truths draw them together or push them apart?
Lots of heartache but family time too along with some sizzling moments. Fast paced with some twists and turns. Loved the kids, single parents JD and Kelsey who are neighbors, along with the band members. Communication was key for JD and Kelsey to be on the same page at the same time and not just about kid related things. Los of music and photography as we see their band take off. A happily ever after that was better than expected the way it played out. Nice closure and I’m looking to reading the rest of the books in the series. Ms Kade is a new to me author and I look forward to reading more of her books.
First of all, the pace was so slow that it was difficult to stay invested in the story. I just found myself, not so patiently, waiting for something to happen. Next, it seemed like Kelsey didn't even know who Andy was to her, much less anyone else, and at the beginning of the book the author used Andy, Andie and Andrew interchangeably. Finally, I else's reasoning for JD to not be interested in her is ridiculous. The fact that the author sees this as a reasonable argument in today's society is laughable at best. I just found myself tired of the whole mess and skimmed a chunk of the middle and just finished the end.
Not usually a fan of stories about boys in the band, but this one really hit home. This struck me more as the tale of two strong people pushing through. And, somehow, dreams stayed in the equation when they could have so easily been abandoned. I loved the earthiness of dressing the kids, doing the dishes and paying the bills. Oddly, they learned the important stuff about each other before sex. Doesn’t often play out that way. All the support characters rang true. Pleasure to read.
Sounded like a regular contemporary romance. The synopsis sounded like it would be a younger guy , older woman, lots of steamy scenes and that's it. My first time reading this author and i would definitely try to read more. Must say the book really surprised me. Maybe because i wasnt expecting much. It was a romance with interesting characters, a lot of restraint and buildup and the characters were mostly all interesting. Would be interested in trying to see if this author has a similar style in all books.
I read the first one and I really enjoyed it so it's a five . Maybe even a 5+ . I read the second one it was the Three at most...Story not that great . I tried to read the third one , and gave up..couldn't read it. . I ended up returning them. The author started out great. i don't know what happened but she most definitely needs to start over with this series .
