Titans: Rebirth (2016) #1

Rate this book
Friends. Teammates. Titans. Donna Troy, Arsenal, Garth, Lilith and Nightwing were all that and more until a mysterious force erased their memories, forcing them to forget what they could accomplish together. Reunited with their memories returned, the Titans must destroy the interdimensional demon that broke them apart and threatens reality itself.

THEY SAID IT: "Grayson and Donna were a couple of the characters I first worked on at DC, so it feels like a homecoming for me," explains penciller Brett Booth. "I'm beyond happy!"

I got a pile of Rebirth freebies from a buddy, but this one I actually purchased on my own.
Those of you who know me are probably recovering from the heart attack that finding out my cheap ass spent money on something just caused. I apologize.
But I'm glad I bought it!
Yep. This was my favorite (so far) of all the Rebirth titles!

description

It was also the 3d one I read, and I think that was a good choice. DC Universe: Rebirth coming 1st, of course, then followed by The Flash: Rebirth. Honestly, I'm not sure what the reading order is, so I'm just sort of fucking in the dark here.
Which, at my age, is really best. Although, if you're feeling frisky, you can just dim the lights down to the flattering almost pitch black setting.
Anyway.
This issue had heart!

description

Wally has returned, and now he's come to Titans headquarters with the intent to try and make his closest friends remember him. Which, admittedly, sounds kinda gloomy, right?

description

But it wasn't!
Titans Rebirth was filled with those Dawwwww! moments that just brought on all the feels, even though I haven't read much about them in the past.
I'm going to make an effort to fix that, btw.

I was surprised that Teen Titans managed to make so many Emotions! pop up in me, so this is one title that I'm definitely going to continue reading!

I loved the Teen Titans (not Go) animated show when I was younger, and Young Justice more recently, so I was happy to finally read this!

Not much action happened, but it was cool to see the teams memories of Wally. I will say, i've never heard of Lilith before, so I'll have to do some reseach on her before the first issue comes out.

If it wasn't so short it'd be worth four stars. A very good issue though to springboard into the new Titans series! :)

3.75 stars. Titans: Rebirth isn't exactly like the other Rebirth titles so far. It focuses more on reconnecting the TT and reminiscing the past. Now, I've never read Titans Hunt or any of the other Teen Titans' comics before so it didn't really impact me that much. But I believe that those of you who've been following this group of friends for a long time will have a pang of nostalgia and will feel happy at the reunion.

Apart from that, I really liked Wally's new suit that Barry (got for/made with) him; it looks rad asf. Oh and so, I've never read the Teen Titans comics like I said, but I have seen the cartoons and I've always loved Raven. So Lilith is now my favourite character, kawaiiiiiii. Where'd Beastboy go, though, can someone fill me in on that?

My comic review usually contain spoilers.

This continues after DC Universe: Rebirth #1 and now Wally West is out to find his friends and teammates: the Titans.

Of course, when he finds them, once again, they don't remember who he is and he finds a way to shock their memories of him back into place. After realising what happened, that ten years of their lives -their lives and memories with and of each other- were stolen from them, they decide to find out who is behind all this and trust that their bond is strong enough so that the same thing doesn't happen again.

Again people, read the DC Universe: Rebirth #1 first before this. It will highlight and clear up everything for you. I myself know how confusing comics can be when you start at an odd place.

I liked how this was slightly different to the other Rebirth comics I've read so far. This time, Wally wasn't running through the Speed Force trying to get out, he was out, he was free but of course things are still not the way they're supposed to be because his best friends and teammates have no idea who he is. In this comic, it was more of a walk down memory lane. Because these were his friends, his family practically, there was more of a personal touch here and it shows as you go through the comic. I'm loving the new suit Wally has by the way.

With the team back together and on a mission to find out who actually did this to them, the action is rising. I don't know about others, but I feel like this is going to be a good one. We're in for one helluva wild ride and I sure want to be there when it happens.

A team book that has character focus!!! YES!!! I usually pass up team books because I find most of them sacrifice character depth in favour of action, and that just doesn't do it for me. I would happily read a comic where realistic characters sit around and have amazing character interactions the entire time. Conversely, I wouldn't get past the first issue of an action-packed but personality-less comic.

Thankfully, Titans looks like it's going to have a good amount of action and character. This issue gives readers a foundation based on friendship/family and loyalty. Even though the substantial interactions are mostly flashbacks, we get a taste of the kinds of relationships the Titans will have throughout the series.

I'm really looking forward to this!

A great (re)start for the group of friend superheroes, unlike the previous version of Teen Titans which had potential. As Wally reintroduced himself to his old friends, they all found the spark that truly solidified their friendships with him and also feeling like the were missing something for a while. Though after reading this, I do feel I should go back to read "Titans Hunt" to get a minor amount of backstory for this groups reformation. But without it, I still look forward to the continued story of Wally West return to this world and how he's coming back will be instrumental for things to come.

I'm really looking forward to the Titans series, primarily because of Wally West's storyline.
This issue however coulda been summarized in one page. This is one time I won't care about spoiling anything, because it's just Wally accidentally zapping each member into remembering him, your common misunderstanding fight along the way, and that's it.
The one panel flashbacks for each member are cute but regardless this issue can be very much skipped.

This was fun and a cute read.

Wally West is all but forgotten when Barry Allen manages to save him. Now Wally's back, he has to get his old Teen Titan buddies to help him figure out who pushed him out of time. But, *how* can he make them remember him?

There is very little in the way of plot in this issue but most of the Rebirth issues are like that. They're very much about establishing this new universe.

What I loved most about this issue and this team is the camaraderie between them. It comes through in every panel. I have no clue how the writers and artists make their chemistry apparent on a page but they do. That's talent for you, mate.

What I didn't like was the simplicity with which Wally reminded the Titans of his connection to them. Comes back to the lack of plot - if they'd made it harder for them to remember him it would have required more plot and there just isn't enough space in one issue for that.

Also, there is no diversity in this team! What happened to Mal and Karen from Titans Hunt? Bring then back!

Aside from those flaws, it's a great introduction to this new universe and the Titans look like they're shaping up to be a great team. Just need more diversity.

I stopped reading Dc when the new 52 started. All the twists and turns gave me headache back then, I didn't like at all so I chose to stop. Now we have a ton of rebirth and now they now the truth. A lot of things happened but now I can see that my beloved heroes are still there under all the drama and dumb changes.
I'm gonna started with Titans and then gonna keep up with nightwing.
Maybe I'll end up with a bunch of comics all over the place but that's normal.
Really like it!!

Titans Rebirth #1
Writer: Dan Abnett
Penciller: Brett Booth
Inker: Norm Rapmund
Colorist: Andrew Dalhouse
Letterer: Carlos M. Mangual

Review by Josh Canales

More than just heroes, the Titans were a lifelong friends. Yet, as with many relationships in the DC Universe, this was lost in time. Wally West is back, in an all-new costume that ties together his classic Kid Flash suit with the iconic Flash suit, searching for what caused the loss of time. When Wally disappeared from everyone’s lives, including us readers, time wasn’t the only thing lost; memories, bonds, and so much more were nowhere to be found.

Running straight out of the pages of Flash Rebirth #1 (not to be confused with the 2011 Flash: Rebirth) we meet Wally searching for his old teammates, his best friends. They find him first, but of course without their memories they don’t recognize him and just see him as a masked man breaking into one of their apartments. So they attack. On the defensive, Wally soon realizes one touch will bring back his friends memories, so he allows them to land punches on him. Soon enough, memories return and that’s when the emotions hit.

With strong emotions and call backs to classic moments, Dan Abnett hits the ground running. Setting up what’s to come, we get a great sense of the relationships we will get to see grow. From stealing the Batmobile with Dick to playing pranks with Donna Troy, readers get a taste of what to expect. Each relationship between the team members is different, but they’re all full of love. That much is apparent, the Titans are and have always been more than just another team. Seeing the team back together is an emotional sight, and Wally describes the feeling best; “I’m finally home.”

Brett Booth and Andrew Dalhouse do not fail to impress with their costume designs of most of the team, other than Nightwing’s. Each costume ties back to their classic, Pre-52 looks, but with a fresh takes. Booth, Rapmund, and Dalhouse work together to create a seamless comic that is not only easy to follow, but uses panels in creative ways. These artists cooperates flawlessly to allow emotion to pour through each characters’ face and actions in a way that can only be described as stunning. The palette Dalhouse brings to the table is what truly ties the entire book together.

The Verdict.
Buy it. Titans Rebirth #1 is a great story that does well to educate new and old reader alike to the current situations the Titans have found themselves in. This creative team does not miss a beat, hitting the readers with emotions, action, and hilarity. If the New 52 Teen Titans left a bad taste in your mouth or you’re new to the Titans in general, this book is for you. Abnett and team does not disappoint with this one-shot; expect great things to come from this new series. Filled to the brim with emotion, Titans Rebirth #1 is a must read for everyone.

Much like the Flash Rebirth oneshot we learn much more about the missing years. I expect we will find out more with the justice league that is coming up. The titans is much more interesting than the teen titans, I never could get into those. Nightwing is a great character and will have his own Rebirth shortly. I like the fact these Rebirths exist as the new 52 was very hit and miss, certain characters were doing okay but others struggled and disappeared quickly. This was another story episode but it gave clues to what caused the time lapse.

This is the first ever Titans book I've read, and it's largely because of the setup from Rebirth #1, and the hook from Justice League #51

The book reads like a purified extract of nostalgia, even for someone who has nothing to be nostalgic about. You can feel the love and friendship in each page, and while the story is a bit weak, the book serves its purpose. I'm looking forward to the adventures of this resurrected team.

3.5/5.

So far it seems Abnett is my least favorite writer for DC Rebirth, though this was definitely better than Aquaman.

I think I would have liked this a lot more if I was a bigger fan of the Titans, as much of the issue seemed to be playing on nostalgia that just didn't hit with me. That said, I did enjoy Wally talking to each member and helping them remember.

Not a comic I need to read every month, but I will definitely be picking up the first trade.

This, while making me happy that former storylines and relationships were restored, made me go... Okay.... So am I supposed to pretend that everyone was under an evil spell that spawned the reality of the New 52 isn't a corny copout? Ah well, beggars can't be choosers. Happy for a reboot or rather a restore with some modern kicks.
