Follow the adventures of a T-Rex as he munches his way through the alphabet! Each page contains a short statement associating the featured letter with a word or words beginning with that letter. Some of these statements are likely to require explanations during a read-aloud given the advanced vocabulary used, such as "L was luscious" and "I was irresistible," and the statement "X reminded him of his Xercycle" seems somewhat of a stretch. Each drawing, executed in cheerful shades of primarily green, dark orange, and purple, is detailed and contains a number of items that begin with the featured letter, which is always present and slightly gnawed-upon. For example, the illustration for the letter A also contains apples, artichokes, acorns, avocados, airplanes on the T-Rex's overalls, and an ant. However, at times the items are difficult to identify, such as the skewers of yellow cubes and orange globes on the T page that the list of items to search for in the back of the book identifies as "toothpicks." The result is that reading this book can be much more time-consuming than the short text would seem to indicate if children search for and name the items, but the potential for this interaction makes this an excellent book not only to learn the shapes of the letters, but also to associate each letter with pictures of common items.
