A fresh and comic look into the crazy mind of a lavish Mossad agent. In the year 2006, after the end of the second Lebanon War, Israeli Mossad makes hasty decision to put out a contract on five wealthy Hezbollah-affiliated Arabs, residing in Europe. Agent "Chico" is assigned for the job. He's a 30-something Mossad agent of a new the kind that stays with the agency to maintain the lavish and expensive lifestyle he and his Italian girlfriend are perusing in the city of Florence. Naturally, Chico is elated to exploit the assassination missions in Western Europe as his personal pre-Christmas shopping spree But surprising turns of events lead to a completely different scenario, which he could not expect... The new circumstances awaken in Chico a dormant conscience he did not know he possessed. For the first time, he is drawn to a personal reflection of the life and the profession he had chosen for himself. Between his dangerous and rewarding profession, and the dull life of an average Joe, what will he chose? As the pressure grows, Chico's mind begins to play tricks on him. He drifts into a wacky dream-like state mind, involving occasional musical encounters and argumentations with talking cats. Will he survive this mission and get promoted, or end-up like one of his contracts? A hilarious action drama that dispels the myth of patriotic Israeli secret agents. The Middle East conflict never looked so nutty. A fantastic action drama with an edge that will take you to uncharted and hilarious territories! Wonderful read, very exciting and dramatic! Chico is a character I can relate to being I'm ex-military. All the traveling abroad, not being sure the missions are worth the mental agony, relationships with no truth or certainty, being sick, trying to deal with civilian life. I wish I can go back to the military, but have my own contingency plan like Chico does. I want my cat to have conversations with me. I really like how he flipped out and went off on the SSI people. That's exactly how I felt, and what I dreamed to do when I filed for SSI disability. Chico is a fighter and a great character in this book. The author kept the story lighthearted although it was centered around political tragedy and hardships.
I thought this book, recommended to me by a friend, was going to be all about cats, and was rather taken aback to discover that it was actually about an emotionally stunted assassin. That initial disappointment may have caused me to view the book through jaded eyes, and for the first few chapters I didn't think much of it. The word 'pointless' may have come to mind.
The author, however, worked his magic and almost against my will I was drawn into Chico's strange and barren world, until by the time the 'little pussycats' actually did make their belated appearance, I was quite committed to the story, and really cared about the sad little shopaholic hitman.
I think that's really all I need to say; I started off not liking the book, and the author forced me to change my mind, which to me is sufficient proof that he knows his craft. Well worth a read.
Intriguing! This book somehow draws the readers in! Fast paced! Never a dull moment! A book that will have you escaping your reality for a moment in another time! Highly recommend!
Good for a few chuckles but in need of some proof reading. Seriously unlikely and a slap at Israel politics and policies. Not much more to say about it.
