Hawke Navarro. A criminal. A murderer. The former President of the most notorious MC around. The law thinks he's dead, and he needs to stay that way. He wanted her to steer clear from the club and live an ordinary life. But Ty lingers. She grows and she's not the little girl Hawke remembered her to be. And soon he can't look at her as that little girl anymore. Not with those curves, or that face, or those sinfully tasty lips. This had so many things I love - mc club, age gap, no holds barred violence - and I thought it was shaping up to be a 5-star read...but it just never came to fruition for me.

Still, I thought this was a really solid read that was thisclose to being awesome for me. I really liked Hawke. He was a true badass. I like Tyler too despite the constant mention of how she "wasn't like other girls." Le sigh. So sick of that shtick.

But I'll let it slide.

Something was just missing for me on the back end...I feel like the story lost steam and tension somehow. I don't know.

Regardless, I definitely liked R.J. Lewis's writing style and will be checking out the Borden books. They sound like they are right up my alley.

4 Sparking Fear Stars ⭐

Hawke Navarro isn't a good man. With plenty of bloodshed, he's now a fugitive of the state and damn scarier than he's ever been. When he went to prison, he had no choice but to give up the MC presidency role. Yet through it all, he never fully let go of the little girl he was forced to leave behind.

"She still looked at him the same, he realized. Like he was some kind of god. He never understood her fascination with him, but he liked it, and he missed it."

Tyler only knows the Warlord MC way of life. From a young girl who grew up within those walls, it's her family. Tyler was 13 when Hawke was sent away, but she’s never forgotten the kinship they shared. The years may have gone by, but their paths would cross over the years with Hawke returning like a ghost to fix the wrongs within the club.

Hawke has no intention of resuming his rightful place as president. Except when club business goes pear shaped and Tyler is threatened, he has no choice but to step in once again. And his attempt at keeping Tyler at a distance is difficult. Because the little girl is gone and has been replaced with a young woman unable to conceal her longing for him.

"I didn’t even think. I’d wanted Hawke for too long to care about his stupid fucking warning. I’d rather be burnt than stand by the fire, wondering how nice the heat would feel on my skin."

A war is brewing, and the stakes are getting higher as the club is falling apart. But through the carnage, Tyler has always remained true and loyal to Hawke. Having bade her time, she wants a real shot with Hawke. But there are no half measures and it has always been on his terms. This is not hearts and roses. Just love and destruction.

"Don’t tempt me, Ty. You don’t want to see that side of me. I am not soft, you understand? I take, and I take hard."

It’s no secret I am a huge fan of R.J Lewis. I love her edgy writing, hot AF sex scenes and questionable characters. Hawke is heavily focused around gritty MC club business, the illegal activities, and gruesome acts involved. It is not a conventional romance as who could love a killer? Yet Tyler does. Because even a hardened outlaw needs a soft place to land…

5 Stars!
I was super excited to see Hawke was getting his story told after I finished Borden. I loved it!

This one starts off with a little back story of how Hawke became Borden's right hand man. How he became the protector of Tyler the club brat.

Hawke is the president of the Warlords MC. Someone has set him up and the Feds are going to bring him down. He's not worried about anything but young Tyler. Prison was made for men like him. But he made a promise to Tyler's father to watch over her and protect her before he died. He wants her to get away from the club and live a normal life. Tyler may be young but she's very wise for her age. She's been around the club since she was 5 yrs old and she's seen and heard a lot. Always hiding under tables or in closets listening. The club is all she's ever known. Her mother cares about nothing but getting drunk. The club is her real family and nobody will keep her away. She doesn't flinch at anything she sees until one day a police officer is harassing her and Hawke steps in. He told her to cover her ears and shut her eyes but she peeked. Tyler blames herself for Hawke going to prison.

A few years later. Tyler is twenty years old. She's still around the club. But now Hector is president. Hector is Hawke's younger brother and even though Hector is tough he's not Hawke. When a deal with the mob goes a different direction Hawke is called in. The cousin of the leader wants Tyler and Hawke isn't having it. But why does this guy really want Tyler?

Hawke can't get over how much Tyler has grown. He loves the way Tyler still looks at him like he's her world. But he's made a life with Borden and is a fugitive now so how can Tyler still be looking at him like that? How can she want him?

I loved both Hawke and Tyler. Tyler was feisty and had no filter. The tension between these two was thick. I loved that Tyler didn't care what Hawke did she still wanted him no matter what. She felt safe when Hawke was around her. She didn't see him as the monster he thought he was. Tyler wanted Hawke and she made sure to let him know. I loved that Hawke kept fighting his feelings for Tyler but didn't look at any one else. When these two finally came crashing together is was super hot!

This book was filled with action and had you wondering through the whole book who was stirring up the trouble. Who betrayed the club and set up Hawke? Was it his brother? Who knows the secret about Tyler that only a few people know about? I was shocked at the end.

I'm hoping and praying that we get Hector's story next! Who's going to tame this manwhore? Please RJ Lewis give us his book next!

If you loved Borden's books then Hawke's book will be a win for you too. You don't have to read Borden's books to read this one! I hope you love Hawke as much as I did.

Hawke was an awesome read for me, I was hooked from the beginning till the end. It was far from perfect and at times frustrating but I didn't care one bit because I loved it. Hawke was super sexy but also a ruthless killer that was extremely loyal to those he loved. Tyler was great. Had she been any other h I honestly would have wanted to shake her and smack her a couple of times because she was so desperate for Hawke and he knew it too. But honestly I didn't hate her because she had loved him since she was a young girl and because of that even when she feared his violence she couldn't help but see the man she loved and felt safe with. I loved the appearance of Borden and I look forward to more from this author.

This is a MC romance of a murderous outlaw fugitive and a club brat. After reading the Borden duet I was glad there is a separate book for Hawke and Tyler. This is a standalone and is a different change of read for a MC romance.

'My heart didn’t feel so heavy after that smile. He always made things alright, ever since my father died and he took me into the arms of the club.
He was my protector.'

Tyler Wilson (20), is 'modest and tame, but also feisty and sexy. She wasn’t catty, she didn’t backstab, she minded her own business and was loyal to a fault.' After her father's death she was the club's responsibility, mainly Hawke's, who takes care of her. She grew up among the club members and has been a brat no matter how annoying and adorable she is. Her only facination was to the man to whom she wants to be look more like a woman.

'Tyler had been thrust into his life forcefully and without question, but now he was beginning to realize just how ingrained she was in his world.

Because he didn’t want to see her out of it anytime soon.'

Hawke Navarro (30), is a fugitive. He is the 'ghost' president of the MC club that seems to be falling apart without him. You can never know what was going on inside his head. He is a killer and doesn't shy away from his cause.

Hawke lacked compassion while Tyler carried emotions on her sleeve. Tyler has been infatuated with him since she was little. Hawke knew her feelings and has avoided it believing she would grow out it. He is protective of her and he won't let others near her. He has been leading a double life - henchman to a ruthless man and the ghost president. Between working for the man who saved him and trying to pull up his club that seemed to be drowning, his loyalties are tested between two sides.

There were moments when I want to bash Hawke on the head for the push and pull situation with Tyler and feel annoyed of Tyler because of her clinginess. Overall this book was an enjoyable read. It also proclaims a guardian and ward relationship which I enjoyed.

This is a stand alone, and yet Hawke is a character that is introduced in R.J. Lewis's other books; "Borden 1" and "Borden 2," Hawke was revealed to us as Borden's second in command; but he has way more of a history to him than just one of Borden's men.

Once upon a time, Hawke was president of a Motorcycle club. Things went south for him and he landed in prison for life. Hawke is a hard man, there is nothing flowery about him, and he does what needs to be done regardless of who gets hurt....or...I should say....murdered...! Yes, you read right. Hawke has murdered many, and he really doesn't have much of a conscience; but there is one person who is able to soften him, and that would be; Tyler.

Tyler basically grew up in the club. She was a part of all the men's lives from a very young age, and even when her father was murdered, they kept her in the MC. Hawke was someone that Tyler looked up to, and eventually as she aged, she began to fall in love with him. When Hawke lands himself in jail for life, what will happen to him? To Tyler? To the whole club?? Trust me, there are many things that happen...many secrets revealed...and betrayals revealed that will shock everyone.

This is another must read by R.J Lewis. I have loved her two Borden books and now I am glad to add this one to my collection. I did mark this one a little less only because at times it felt a little slow to me. Also, Tyler and Hawke always seemed to get interrupted when they were "getting it on!!" Not only were they frustrated...but so was I! LOL It started to irk me a bit. When they did get full on sex, it was hot...I just would have liked it MORE...heh heh....Nobody is allowed to judge!!!

All in all, a great read, and I am really hoping that we will get to have stories of some of the other brothers. I feel like there could be easily more stories set in this world. My fingers are crossed!!!

*4.5* It could have been the timing, but this book hit just right.
“I know love is home, and I feel it most when you’re with me.”
Hawke is messy perfection. Tyler would have completely annoyed me with her neediness, but she was so pure her character just worked. This one will definitely be re-read.

DNF @ 48%

R.J. Lewis's writings have always been a hit or miss for me. I either hate her book or love it. I decided to give this a try anyway.

What didn't work for me was the heroine. She has a weak ass backbone. I guess around everyone she comes off as a strong-willed, smart ass young woman but when it comes to Hawke.... it's a whole different story.

She's so pathetic and disappointing. She's like one of those starved animals begging for scraps and has no pride whatsoever when it comes to Hawke. Which made me so angry because she deserves better! I wanted her to be stronger!

The fact that I got until 48% and nothing major~ really happened was also a problem for me. It's just so... tedious.

Regardless of what I feel, I think this book would really appeal more to Lewis's fans.

4.25 love me some Hawke stars!!

Loved Hawke, not as much as "Borden" but pretty darn close. It definitely was everything I like in this kinda book. Fast paced, violent, raw, intense, and of course super sexy. Hawke is a mans man, big, bushy beard his violent, doesn't think twice about hurting bad guys. Especially to protect those he loves. The heroine Tyler is a beautiful, feisty, caring and loyal to Hawke and the MC.
I enjoyed the story, we got to know the whole story of Hawke how he came to work for Borden. Also how his brother came to be the MC's president.
The love between Hawke and Tyler was intense, Hawke fought hard against his love for ty. But he was no match for her, I like that about Ty, she loved Hawke and she fought for him. The sexual built up was delicious and when they finally came together it was scorching hot!
Overall this was a great read, and even though this book is not part of the Borden series, IMO it's better to read Borden first. Just because you get a better feel to the story. I'm hoping Hawke's brother hector, and Jesse another member of the MC get their own story!

Wow. So that happened.

I was 5 starring this through the first 50%. Then 4 starring it through the last 45%. Then it was just over and I felt like I needed to reread the last 30 pages just to make sure I didn't miss something. That last 5% was like a 2 star effort. WTF? And that epilogue...I just flipped the page expecting another chapter and BOOM. The fucking epilogue?!?!?

Deep breath.

Confession. I really like RJ Lewis and will be rereading the Borden series. Maybe even the Carter series. Ms. Lewis is my kind of crack. I like her voice enough I overlook things that might annoy me in other authors. Fair warning ;)

What I liked:

The fact I was almost 70% in before I noticed the POV were in different "person" - that shit takes talent. 3rd person is so much harder than 1st person. With 1st, it's visceral and therefore automatically engaging. Truly, the 3rd person here is just as fully engaging (maybe even more) as the 1st person.

The H. Yeah, he was the scary kinda dark. Violence was his middle name, Ladies. But I felt the pull ;) Hawke was willing to do whatever it took, morality be damned. He is a king in the criminal underworld, so you gotta roll with that or this is not the book for you. He didn't grow or change as a character, he thawed. And for Hawke, it was enough to redeem him.

The plot. I stayed with it all the way to the end. I believed the H's handling of Abram because of his involvement with Borden. I also thought the secret of Tyler was nicely crafted in for this genre.

The person who was given to Abram for his eye for an eye. Yeah, did not see that coming. But it was really kinda perfect.

The h. She was born and bred to be the Prez's ol' Lady. Seriously. I totally think that's why her character was portrayed the way she was. Total devotion, loyalty, and innate understanding of how club life must roll to be successful and low drama.

What I didn't like:
(Note: the second thing is a big ass plot spoiler. You've been warned.)

The h. The whole "desperate" thing. I think she could've been drawn the same way but with a bit more backbone in her pursuit of the H. She sure as fuck had attitude enough for everyone one else.

The plot. (((Spoiler Alert: I wanted it solved in a better way than Borden bringing fucking folders in every few pages.)))

So my 3.75 is because the plot tanked (kinda) right at the end and the h needed to give way more attitude to a big scary dude like the H...just sayin'

Safety-Gang: Well, there's no cheating and no OW/OM drama. There's a shit ton of violence. Only one really graphic scene, though. Murder and Mayhem, Ladies. With some steam thrown in to give it release ;)

I made a mistake when I started reading this; I broke my own rule of overindulging in a good thing. I’d enjoyed the previous MC read so much that I picked this up straight away and then found that I just couldn’t connect to the characters as my head was still in another club. I got to the half way point and put it down as I was disappointed.

However, I knew that if I’d picked this up at any other time I would have enjoyed it, so I went away and read a completely different series and came back to it. And I’m very glad I did as I really enjoyed this in the end.

I read this as a standalone. I can see from other reviews that Hawke was introduced to us in previous books, but I don’t think it matters. Hawke’s a rare find in the MC world. He was hot and brooding and a real leader, yet there wasn’t harems of other women, which I admit I found rather refreshing for this genre.

I did find Tyler mildly (ok, majorly) annoying to start with, I think this was a reason for some of the disconnect I felt at the start of the book. I felt she was too young and that the clinginess towards Hawke was rather embarrassing and was partly down to her young age.

However, Hawke saved this for me and this turned out to be a pretty solid MC read.

Obviously I found new author to me who I like very much. I will come back to read some other books written by her.
I like writing style, she writes hot and steamy erotic scenes and ending is not sugary sweet over the top HEA.
This book was solid 4 stars, I wanted to know more about Hawke after reading Borden duet and I were looking forward to read MC topic again after some time.

So many wrong things with this book...

There's so many wrong things with the book. I don't even know where to start.
First, the editing was terrible. The book is riddled with mistakes.
The writing was mediocre at best.
The story was silly. Could have been better, but it was poorly executed. The characters were not developed, there was no character growth, to depth, no real chemistry other than the overdone sexual relationship and the almost creepy obsession that the h had for the H since she was a child.
Don't get me started on the fact that the h grew up in a biker bar, exposed to all kinds of messed up things, and she somehow grows up relatively normal almost virginal.
BTW I think if real bikers read this book they would laugh so hard at the way the author portrays the lifestyle...
Then there's the violence... I don't know who thinks that a sadistic violent criminal is a Hero, just because he sometimes feels guilt or he feels "tired" of killing, and because he thinks he loves the girl that he's supposed to watch out for since she was little. Not me.
I'm going to be honest here. I read Borden and while that book is also very dark and also about another criminal there's the background to justify the characters. There's more involved than just violence, it shows the dark side of growing up in adverse circumstances. There's character development, depth, emotional connection between the characters to go with the sexual relationship. The violence was not so graphic, and more justified. The book (or books) were better written. So I was really looking forward to Hawke's story. But I am so disappointed after reading this.
The author really ruined Hawke's character. And also Tyler. Didn't really seemed the same characters we met in "Borden". She really went overboard with the swearing, the violence, relying only on that to make a story.

4 stats for Hawke!

I loved the Borden series :) And I'm so happy we got Hawke's story!! I was always wondering who Tyler was to Hawke when I read Borden and I'm glad I found out.

Tyler has always loved Hawke, even when she was a teenager and he was 10 years older than her. OF course, Hawke saw her as a kid then, but even then, he was extremely protective over her and would harm anyone who would hurt her.

She still looked at him the same, he realized. Like he was some kind of god. He never understood her fascination with him, but he liked it, and he missed it, and he hoped to fucking god she didn't look at anybody else in the club the same way. Tyler. Again, there was always ... always something about her. Hawke couldn't place it. Couldn't put it into words either.

If you've read Borden, you know that Hawke used to be a part of an MC but now works with Borden. In doing so, he leaves Tyler (who lives at the MC), but again, at this point Tyler is extremely young and Hawke doesn't see her as anything. But when he's forced to come back to deal with some of the MC's issues, (And Tyler is 20), he can't deny the pull Tyler has. He's EXTREMELY alpha, and protective over her.

"Your face is a temple, and he marred it. My fault for not reacting sooner.

He doesn't let anyone hurt Tyler, even when he's with Borden, the MC members tell him news about her.

Hawke tries to push away Tyler in the beginning, cause he knows he's leaving, cause she's too young, cause he thinks he'll hurt her. But of course, that doesn't last so long. He's too possessive to let her go.

It goes into an MC storyline, with some action and drama which was so much fun!!

I really did enjoy this story :) If you enjoyed Borden, you'll like this one as well!!

For safety gang people, it's completely safe!

3.75 stars. I love this author and I'm a huge fan of her work. After reading the Borden series, I knew I would fall for Hawke. He's definitely a favorite of mine, however I think I love him more than his book. Does that even make sense? He was an intriguing character... a dark, stone cold killer when he needed to be but also a sexy as hell sweetheart with Tyler. Tyler.... I didn't hate her nor did I love her. She fell for Hawke when she was just fifteen and he was twenty-four.

There was sexual tension galore for the first half of the book and then once Hawke and Ty hooked up... things were smoking! There was some MC drama violence at the center of the book and the story overall was pretty good. The same goes for the writing... I am glued to the pages of this author's books.

Okay, how about a round of applause for a biker bad boy hero who is not a whore 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 Hawke hands down has to be a rare commodity in the biker world. And need I mention that even with his overgrown beard and long unkempt hair, there was something alluring about him👄

Tyler's relationship with Hawke was somewhat of a slow burn. Also maybe cause Hawke became a ghost of some sort, and couldn't be available to develop what started as a childhood crush for Tyler. But when they FINALLY got together, talk about sparks💥 however, I wish Hawke had been made a bit older. He was too damn mature to be like (I don't remember how old but it was too damn young!).

Does Hawke's brother have a book with Holly???😮 cause I searched high and low for that and couldn't find one😫

Anyhow, recommended!

I don't read many MC books, but my first foray into the MC world was through R.J. Lewis, so it's only fitting that I'd read another MC book written by her, and actually enjoy it! I haven't read the BORDEN series, but from the glimpses that I did see of him in this book, he seemed like an intriguing, promising character.

The thing I love about Lewis' writings (at least from what I've read, i.e., the IGNITE series & Carter), is that there's so much background story. I haven't quite found any other author who can draw out a "romance" plot from early childhood like Lewis does. I love the whole young love angle - or at least, the H or the h pining for each other at different times throughout their early years, with flashback scenes, etc. It really hits that sweet spot for me, and the characters in HAWKE were no different.

I thought I'd be put off by the age difference, as I normally am with huge age gaps, but somehow the characters' connections transcended all of my usual predilections; their interactions were so intense and satisfying that I couldn't help but turn a blind eye to the age difference. (It wasn't THAT much, btw.)

There was quite a lot of drama and MC politics that served as the backdrop for the H and h's romance, but it wasn't as riveting or engaging as the actual scenes the H/h shared together. I kind of hoped the intensity of the MC rivalries, business, and politics within that realm would match the romance plot, but it fell short.

Of course, as usual, the MC life isn't glamorous, and it does have a certain... misogynist undertone to it. All of the girls' roles are reduced to 'sexual' ones, as they serve only one main purpose to the MC. And somehow, the h, Tyler, was "special" - because she didn't engage in some of the questionable yet expected behavior all of the other women engaged in.... I found that hard to believe, unrealistic, and very polarizing.

I'm not afraid of reading books about not-so-perfect heroines. Honestly. I actually like 'em better if they're somehow damaged, or deemed unlovable. It just makes the story that much more rewarding when she does find a connection with someone who can look beyond that. Accept it. Understand it. It just makes it less easier for the characters to "get together" and it creates that angst that I love. Here, Tyler was kind of on the meek side (but most of Lewis' heroines are usually like that), and I can't say I loved that.

Lewis writes the PERFECT, most dreamy, very bad-ass male characters or love interests.... but when it comes to the girl, I feel like it's always toned down, so the guy can get a little more love from the readers or fans or even the heroine.... I don't know. But, it doesn't always have to be that way! Why can't the h also be strong willed, and maybe even a little messed up? It always seems like a pattern with Lewis to have the girl be kinda strong-ish in the beginning (witty dialogue, strong morals, faithful, etc.), only to have her always come 2nd to the alpha dude she ends up with.

There's also a lot of sexual content here. That's in no way a bad thing, and I liked the cat and mouse game Tyler & Hawke played. It was mostly bittersweet, but ALWAYS HOT with those scenes. Still, sometimes I felt like there was too much of it. It took away from other important situations happening in the book. I wanted more drama between Hector and Hawke, and basically more MC drama.

All in all, it's definitely a book I'd recommend to readers who may occasionally enjoy MC books (with the major focus being the romance. I can't say for sure how other MC books are like.... because I don't usually read them, but if you're a fan of R.J. Lewis -- and really enjoyed the IGNITE series, this one will definitely NOT disappoint either!

Hawke is a dead man. He was once the prez of his MC before he was sent to prison to be busted out by Borden. Hawke is caught between taking back is rightful seat in the club and staying out of the light being Bordens second hand man. And with staying away from the club comes staying away from Tyler, the club brat who has always loved him..until he can no longer stay away.

Tyler has loved Hawke for as long as she can remember. Since Hawke left, he moved herself into his clubhouse room with the only family she knows.

I love a good sllllooooowww burn..that builds up the characters. And when it got hot..it got HOT!

Take care
Take care of her
I took it

Don't trust
Don't trust
Don't.......

these were the last words of a dying man to Hawke Navarro - President of a notorious MC club. Protect my daughter, steer her away from the club and let her have a normal life.

For Tyler Wilson normal life for her was the club. She embraced it and grew up with it and she was protected by it. From 15 years old she also loved Hawke Navarro.....but he couldnt touch her. She also blamed herself Hawke's "disappearance" but Hawke was true to his word. He protected her no matter what and no matter who - disrespect her and he will cut the throats clean off their heads.

When a new threat arrives to unravel this promise we soon find out the implication of those words made by her dying father. Hawke is forced to "return from the dead" only to find that Tyler is no longer a little girl and one of their brothers has betrayed them.

This was a good story from R J Lewis and it was good to connect again with Borden. Standalone story with violence, strong language and sex.

After reading the Borden duet I was very intrigued by Hawke and couldn’t wait to read his book. Add the fact that I simply adore the ‘innocent young woman pines for and is in love with much older jaded man who pushes her away’ trope and I was chomping at the bit to tear into this sucker. Alas, it fell flat for me.

I never really felt convinced that Hawke was truly and deeply in love. All together I found their relationship to be somewhat tepid. I wanted him to be more passionate, more demonstrative, and just...more...with her. I expected more angst and intense emotions from this. And I got so tired of Hawke’s massive beard. I get why he grew it but after a while i just wanted it gone. It wasn’t attractive. The love scenes also left something to be desired. This was sadly a rather disappointing read for me.

This is one of those books that had everything I would have expected to love and enjoy in an mc romance but just, unexplainably, fell a little flat. I liked the writing, plot, characters, and whole mc element but I never found myself totally invested in it. It took me a while to get into and even when I did "get into it", I found myself still semi-bored and finding excuses to put it down often. Again, I didn't not like this and there isn't one thing I can point out to "blame" for my feelings ... I guess it was one that just didn't really work for me! I would definitely be down to read another by this author tho so regardless, I'm happy to have picked it up and had an overall enjoyable-enough time of reading it :)
