Kenzie Bolton had it all, or so everyone thought. She was the hottest voice in country music and married to her famous manger. But behind the triumphs, Kenzie lived a nightmare that was hard to break free from. And when she finally did, the hits stopped coming, leaving her new manager searching for a way to get Nashville’s sweetheart back on the charts. Chase Radcliffe eschewed family expectations, instead pursuing his music dream, and went from playing college bars to platinum success as the front man for A New Horizon, but now one of his band mates wants to take a break, and the soulful rocker needs a new project to occupy his time. When a producer suggests they team up for a duet, these two musicians from different genres are skeptical. Can dissonance result in beautiful harmony both in and out of the recording studio?
I absolutely fell in love with Chase and Kenzi from the very beginning. Such truly wonderful characters that were so well written. The reader was able to zero in on their strengths and flaws quite easily and relate to them from the get go.
Using the lyrics of a song they cowrote was such an interesting way to tell their story as it was happening. Yet, the reader was unaware of all the lyrics until almost the very end of the novel and of how very accurate they were.
They learn so much about each other, and this the reader does of them, via the multiple means of interaction between them. As they are writing, rehearsing, touring Nashville, dancing or just being together and talking. They bring out the best in the other, even in the difficult times, until their feelings become too deep and something neither of them have felt before. Which scares Kenzi to the point she is willing to let Chase go, even as it is the last thing she wants to do. Chase, gives her plenty of chances for her to change her mind, and instead of fighting for her he heads home.
They both come to very similar conclusions while they were separated...and when they meet again a few months later for a live performance things fall into place for them both.
Michele writes with such honesty, warmth, realism, and from the heart. She pulls her readers in so quickly and leaves still engaged but also thinking long after the novel has ended. Her books are not ones you can finish and then head to another right away. There is so much passion in them that the reader needs time to digest it all.
Definitely pick this novel up and read it, along with any of her others, as soon as you can. You will not be disappointed.
(Individual novel and also found in the box set "Love Notes")
Beautiful story about second chances, not only in love, but in life as well. Kenzie made it high and fast in the world of Country Music, but apparently her success was significantly due to her husband/manager. When she decides to break free in order to regain control of her life and find happiness, everything falls apart. She needs a break, just one hit to get back in the map. In comes rock sensation Chad Radcliffe, everything not Country. Although Chad is not convinced, something in Kenzie pulls him toward the project that he decided beforehand to decline. Accepting not only the project, but composing a new song with Kenzie proves that together they can be in perfect harmony.
Absolutely beautiful. Kenzie is a smart vivacious country singer who fell from the top of country music after her horrible marriage ended. Chase is the typical bad boy rock star and black sheep of his family. Taking a break from his band chase is asked to team up with Kenzie to record a new song. Both being extremely skeptical they find more than they bargained for. A chance to find love for Chase and a second chance at love and music for Kenzie. This book was beautifully written and is now my favorite Michele Shriver book.
I read this book as a part of Love Notes: Eight Country Romances. I had never read a book written by Michele before, but will DEFINITELY place her high up on my watch list. This book had me by the second page. Emotionally charged, well developed characters and story line. The only thing this book left me wanting, was more material written by this author. I can't wait to read the other 6 stories, because so far the 2 I have read have been positively FANTASTIC!!
