In a society where many young adults flee the church, Jon Nielson helps parents raise their children with a Christian faith that does not fade with time. Through practical advice and five biblically based principles, Nielson provides guidance for the church, parents at every stage, and especially parents of children who have left the church.
Jon Nielson has worked as director of training for the Charles Simeon Trust, an organization that provides training in biblical exposition. He is currently college pastor at College Church in Wheaton, Illinois, and is author of Bible Study: A Student's Guide.
Succinct, emphatic, and compassionate, this book carefully addresses parents, pastors, and even children themselves about the necessity of understanding personal faith, humanity's enduring sinfulness, and the critical role the church plays in the lives of individuals - and vice versa. This is an extremely useful tool that I supply to my youth staff and parents of teenagers for the foundation it lays and the misconceptions it addresses.
Great read for any parent, guardian, grandparent, or mentor in the body of Christ and is wondering what is turning generations against the local and big Church. Definitely would recommend!
Really helpful book, I highly recommend. I would have liked to see more hope offered from a Covenantal perspective as well as more interaction with current research (Christian Smith, David Kinneman, et al). But overall a fantastic resource for parents written from a pastoral (not academic) perspective.
