It is a good one time read if you're trying to climb the corporate ladder as they say. Also if you're trying to get the best out of communicating and working together as a team with all the other employees whether they're your boss or work under you. It's always interesting to read things related to your field of work and if your field is project management and running businesses then this will probably be your cup of tea.

Having said that there are also some nuggets of wisdom that can be generalized to anyone procrastinating their dreams or someone really unsatisfied with the way things are right now in any area of their life.

This book relies a lot on examples whether they're real life situations witnessed by the author himself, Sameer Dua (CEO of IGL, India), while he was coaching other people or references from other books that inspired the author or memories from being coached by Bob Dunham (CEO of IGL, USA).

Since more than 90% of the examples are related to corporate jobs you could get bored and might want to skip through some of them if you're not from that background and are completely uninterested in that world.

Again, most of the content might be just a good, light hearted read for the usual, run of the mill self help enthusiast who has not chosen a corporate career path. However, there are few very specific and helpful pieces of advice that might help you out as well (if you were looking for that sort of guidance). With this book the author wants to encourage you to declare a breakdown in your life if you need to switch up the way things have been up till now, he gets you to imagine your default future which is the future that is inevitable if you keep doing the same things you are doing at present, and if you're okay with your current default future. The author also talks a little about the way we perceive the world around us and how that might be our biggest barrier to reaching our goals. I feel those theories can be generalized well to lots of folks from all kinds of backgrounds and are worth a read at least once.

I did skip through a lot of the content because that world completely bores me but I think it's a great book because I still wanted to get as much out of it that could be applied to me. So I do value the advice and the author's experience.

This is a path-breaking book. Love Sameer's style of writing and the amount of practical examples he gives in the book. He has also filled the book with easy practices that can help implementation of the new concepts and that for me was one very important part of the book.

After a certain point of time, many of us get into a certain flow in our work-field from which we find it difficult to break out and achieve newer goals. Someway or another, we all are stuck with our default future and fear to break free from it due to fear of failure or some other reason. But this book makes you look at your goals from a completely different perspective. The concept of declaring a breakdown to change the default future really works. Sometimes we seek and need a change from our regular routine but are held back due to various reasons, Declaring Breakdowns seamlessly explains how and why taking a pause when there is a deliberate slowdown and pursuing alternate options can really change your life for good.

I got a free copy of the book from the publisher in exchange of an honest and unbiased review.
