Suzuki is a programmer in the midst of a death march-crunch time, when coders live on caffeine and pull twenty-hour days. He just needs a little nap...but then he has a dream. A dream where he's in another world, with RPG powers right out of his game. A dream where he calls down a great disaster. A dream that, suspiciously, just won't end...
3.5, rounding to 4. A lot of fun. Good artwork, good world building, fun characters. A bit cliche, but not in a bad way. I foresee the "30 year old in a 15 year old video game avatar" going bad at some point, though. Full review here: https://constantcollectible.com/2017/...
Dnf at 30% Hes 29 and becomes 15 and I think he might have romance w the 17 year old girl idk if that’s even true but probably.. Also Manga w boobs is annoying as hell (I mean when a male character ogles over them or they talk abt how hot and soft and squishy (ew) big boobs are). This is the third manga I’ve read in a row that has them as some kind of “hehe funny” joke 😵💫 im not into it at all maybe that’s just me, it’s just gross
While I liked this I am also a little disappointed, the reason being as I have read both the web novel and the light novel as well as seen the anime. This first volume covers the first 3 episodes of the anime and about half the first volume of the light novel. It starts out good but much like the light novel and anime much of the flair and combat is missing from this version in fact it ends before any actual combat can happen so it feels like nothing but a slice of life and if this is a readers first experience with the franchise I can see them not continuing it. The "extra chapter" included was in all other formats as a normal part of the story again with more detail than included here. I will read the second one as I have already bought it but I feel that I will be disappointed again. Before reading this I suggest you read the light novel or web novel first, I personally feel the web novel is the definitive version but the light novel is different enough (especially after the first volume) to read and enjoy them both. Although the artwork is nice the best choice they made with this was to include the first few pages of the light novel at the end.
This was an interesting take on "isekai". Yes, I can agree with some other readers that Satou seems more powered up than Kirito from SAO, and it can be irksome to hear Satou keep questioning or relying on his assumptions of him dreaming everything. However, I am curious as to see what exactly his being in the other world would entail. Because it doesn't seem as though we've been thrown into the idea that "he's the main hero and has to save the world in order to get home", at least from my first impression. I want to keep reading a little more before giving a better review/a continuation of this review. So far I would recommend to those who like the isekai genre. (Oh, and for those who are curious about the "harem" trope, I don't necessarily see a formation being brought about for the MC. Though there are a number of girls he encounters, I didn't see anything blatant like a flash of underwear or whatnot-just a bonus chapter that seemed a little over-the-top. Whether this concern becomes more apparent in later volumes will have to be left up to the future)
Too much text and exposition. It's worse than playing the first chunk of one of these games where it's all linear back story and training. I want to like this. I have the next three volumes, so I hope it gets better. I'd also like the character to be less happy go lucky about everything. It makes everything feel flat and mundane. Like, oh, slaves - cool, wyvern meat - cool, stroll around town - cool, shopping with cute girl - cool, shopping again with other cute girl - cool. What about the dragon or the "sky fall" or the demon lord? Come on.
This book is about a programmer named Suzuki that gets sucked into an alternate world. It gets up to chapter 6 of the series. Most of the series is world building for this alternate land that is based on an RPG. Suzuki dubs himself Satou and passes himself off as a peddler. At the beginning he is weak, but pretty much immediately he uses a spell to conquer an entire area and attempts to live comfortably with his overpowered skills.
I like the beast folk and so far I like the magic system. The foreshadowing for the "big bad" and future of the character feels heavy handed, unless the point is to set you up to be surprised if something different happens.
#PopsugarReadingChallenge2019 Prompt - a LitRPG book
I've definitely read this manga before. And in reading it in novel format, I remembered why I didn't particularly care for it: a 30 year old in a 15 year old appearing avatar grosses me out on a spectacular level.
All the links leading to this suggest it's the light novel. This is in fact the manga version and at no stage prior to purchase is that made at all clear.
I loved this, from page 1 until the end. I am not going to say it's 100% unique but I just loved the whole plot and Art and everything else... I can't wait till I get my hands on Volume 2.
I like how the cover is one of the big moments in the volume itself.
Firstly this is a series that I've read quite a bit online so I don't think I'll get to anything new anytime soon. The art is really pleasing and the door of the series is great, this is probably one of the most word filled series I've ever read. A very good start to a series I really like.
