K. Vale delivers a hot read in Balancing Greg Dwyer and Kyrie Li are living the glorious couple life in New York City. Or are they? When struggling actor Kyrie lands a modeling job, he’s ecstatic to have extra cash to spend on his best-friend-turned-boyfriend.

Of course, Greg is suspicious Anders Berglund, the gorgeous and androgynous Swedish cover model the designers love to pair with Kyrie, is after his man. And maybe Kyrie encourages a growing closeness with the guy?

Greg is probably to blame if Kyrie is drawn to the openly gay and seriously beautiful Andy. With Andy, Kyrie can be himself, as loud and proud as he’s always been. But Greg’s sexuality stays firmly locked in the closest except when he’s with Kyrie’s supportive family or alone with the man he loves.

To make matters worse, Greg’s out-of-touch mom meets with financial ruin and moves in with the couple, forcing him into the closet in his own home.

Can Greg find a way to stand up to Mommy Dearest and win back a love he fought so hard to reach? He discovers the road to pride begins at home and with accepting oneself first. Otherwise, it’s just a dead-end street. Book 4 in the Shooting Stars series.

4.5 stars...

Great follow-up to Hard Act to Follow and it can not be read as a standalone...that being said, I didn't think it was possible, but I loved Kyrie here even more than in the previous book. His sense of humor, how fierce and vulnerable at the same time he was, how understanding of Greg's struggle and how much love he had for Greg...all of those things are some of the reasons why he is one my favorite characters ever (romance-wise).

And as for Greg...oh, boy, he really hurt Kyrie here. Dammit, he hurt me with some of the things he said. But I couldn't harbor any ill feelings towards him, because I understood him. It can't be easy for someone who has only ever been with women all of his life to suddenly be completely open about his relationship with a man. And with someone like Kyrie, at that, who is so brave, which just put more pressure on Greg.

And then, the whole Barbara (Greg's mother) situation...this is where I have to give credit to K. Vale. She could've easily gone down the route many authors are taking when it comes to evil mothers, i.e. she could've created a character that reads like Disney cartoon one. But she didn't...Yes, Barbara is really (and I mean really) something , but I don't think she's evil. Or homophobic for that matter. She's too self-centered for something like that. As long as she has the money, I don't think she cares who is sleeping with whom...even her son. She was not to blame for Greg's lack of spine when it comes to her.

Thankfully, all the hurt and struggle pays off in the end, Greg came to his senses, and I couldn't be more happier for G&K. I don't want to say anything more, because I don't want to spoil the book...but I wholeheartedly suggest you read this one.

I feel bummed because I struggled with Greg in this instalment from part way through. It started out okay with him, with them. I still adore Kyrie, he is gorgeous, but Greg wasn't the guy I loved in Hard Act to Follow. I simply wanted Kyrie to up and leave Greg for quite a bit of this follow-up book. That really upsets me because I get emotionally involved with characters I love and I take it hard.

The chemistry between the two is still off the charts, maybe even more than Hard Act, but I'm very conflicted on how to rate it. Parts are good but parts anger me.

It's been weeks since I read this and I'm trying to wrap my head around two characters I thought were so right for one another having this happen to them.

It works out, Greg promises to change, but the damage is done - for me - and I don't know I can forgive him. It's Kyrie that has to and he does, a bit too easily for me, but... you know.

“Kyrie’s full lips parted, his breath coming in small puffs while he studied Greg’s face. A furrow materialized between his eyebrows as if he were about to answer a difficult question.”

4 balanced stars! Full of heat and heart!

Greg and Kyrie are best friends and now boyfriends, living a glamour life in New York thanks to Kyrie’s modeling career. When Kyrie lands a big gig working next to out and proud Andy, Greg’s jealous gets in the way. You see, Greg is forced to stay in the closet, not quite ready to make his exit. And just when they think things can’t get any worse, Greg’s mother moves in only complicating matters. Can these two navigate through their relationship or will Greg stay forever in the closet??

I fell in love with Kyrie in the previous book, but I love him so much more now. And at times I wanted to slap Greg and his jealousy and petty behavior. He really knows how to grind gears. And seriously don’t get me started on his mother… ugh that woman infuriated me! Overall I loved their story and everything that happened, because quite frankly these two are perfect together. And trust me when I say you won’t look at gondola rides the same after reading this!!!

Review:
When I first started reading this book I was a little disappointed that it was about Greg and Kyrie again, but as I got into the book I was happily sucked back in. The addition of Andy added to the excitement. I was fortunate to be able to binge read this series. Now that I am all caught up, I wonder if it will continue. Hoping for a book 5. The plot of the book has Greg and Kyrie well into their relationship, but Greg is still hiding the fact that he is gay from everyone but Kyrie’s family and their close friends. His mother doesn’t even know, and when she shows up on their doorstep and Greg treats Kyrie as a roommate Kyrie moves in with beautiful supermodel Anders. When the rumors start that something is going on between Kyrie and Anders, Greg is not the only one that is jealous. The chemistry between Kyrie and Greg is hotter than ever even with a few rough spots. This book is shorter than the others in the series, but there is still plenty of drama and action. The dramatic ending is just what this reader ordered. These characters have come a long way. K. Vale, Anders Berglund needs his own story.

I've enjoyed this series so far to date. I jumped on a chance to read Kyrie & Greg's second book. They are not living together after fighting their feelings to one another. Up in New York Kyrie is still Kyrie. He's working on his acting, but gets the chance to model with a well known fashion model. I loved Andy and can't wait for his book. Greg is being supportive as best as he knows how to. I wanted to smack Greg a billion of times in this book. His jealously, the disrespect to Kyrie, and his overall Bitchassness.

Yes I called him out on it. No I didn't want him to out his self when he wasn't ready, but to minimize your relationship with Kyrie and make him feel insignificant because your wacko mother in in town is a no no. You don't even like her, and yeah I know she's birth you but Kyrie is a special man to put up with all of Greg's flaws.

To the plot that was in the story was a little OTT, but I dealt with it. I did enjoy the story alot. I can read about these two forever. I did get happy with Greg in the end. I mean everything had to happen on his own terms and I'm glad Kyrie was adult enough to let them play out even if he was mad and disappointed. I feel like we should atleast get another book for them based on the events at the end. I'm happy with Andy's story being next, but atleast a novella for these two!

Greg and Kyrie are living in New York, out to Kyrie’s family but that’s it. Out and proud Kyrie is forced to be the “roommate” or the “friend” in any social situation and it’s rough. When he’s super excited to get a real modeling job, Greg is very lukewarm and that could be due to the beautiful, androgynous Anders, the model Kyrie will be working with.
I think I am in the minority regarding Greg. While it is known that Greg is in the closet, I didn’t realize how firmly he’s in there and how shameful he feels about who he is, and by extension who Kyrie is. I kept trying to put that in perspective but because it was just repeatedly shown I was really not into him. I found him to be jealous and small, even as he’s forcing this beautiful Kyrie to be a dirty secret.
Since I didn’t read the book before this, Hard Act to Follow, that may have made a difference. I didn’t get the back story, the reason Kyrie fell in love with his best friend, so it was hard for me to understand how he was okay with being treated as he was. Add in the arrival of Barbara, Greg’s homophobic, selfish, shallow mother to stay with them and Kyrie is now forced into a horrible role in his own home. When the showdown comes between Greg and Barbara, with Kyrie overhearing what is said, I was appalled that Greg would assume his mom leaving was the solution to everything. No apology for what you said and think? Greg is not my cuppa, for sure.
Anders is so sweet, reminiscent of Andrej (now Andreja) Pejic; blond ice perfection, feminine in a masculine body. I can’t wait until he gets a story because he definitely needs one. He’s a great friend and really, Greg owes him a thank you for being there for Kyrie. I loved the interaction between them and his new bodyguard, well, there’s something in that?
The catalyst for change comes from an outside source and I was a little disappointed by that. It was a little over the top for me and I wanted Greg to make the change on his own, but at least it gets Kyrie the treatment he so deserves. Fans of the series will like this one and if you are looking for a complicated character that makes you want to shake him, Greg is it! Balanced by the sweetness and joy that is Kyrie, of course.

I love these 2 characters, they got to be one of my favourite book couples. This book carries on from the last book in the series and is the continuing story of Greg and kyrie. Last book kyrie and Greg were moving in together and though in love Greg was still not comfortable showing that he was in a relationship with kyrie except for kyrie family and friends. This puts strain on there relationship especially when Greg's mum turns up. I loved this story and hope there will be another with these two characters (wedding?) as I just love them. I'm also hoping for a happy ending for Andres or Andy as kyrie calls him the supermodel.
Brilliant read:)

Chapter 1

Kyrie’s amazing day was about to get a cherry on top. He opened the apartment door to the rattle of keys on the other side.

Greg’s mouth dropped open, eyes widening comically, but he spared a nervous glance for the empty hallway behind him before stepping swiftly over the threshold.

He shut the door and locked it with a snap of the deadbolt.

“Is it my birthday already?” Easing his work computer to the floor, Greg allowed the suit jacket draped over one arm to follow unceremoniously. As he loosened his tie, yanking the knot from side to side, his mahogany gaze did a similar zigzag down Kyrie’s exposed body.

“This, my love, is just one of the outfits I was given today when I went for my Spectrum Spectacular callback.”

Greg took in the full extent of Kyrie’s ensemble, what little there was of it, and his auburn brows lowered. Kyrie spun around to give him the complete picture, peeking back over his shoulder with a salacious lick of the lips. The white micro trunks and matching fishnet tank were his favorite parts of the ample cache he’d received. He’d been beyond excited for Greg to get home and see them.

“Why would they…? You got the job?” A grin broke across Greg’s face, but the disapproval was still evident as he continued to eye Kyrie’s appearance.

“I got the job! I got the job!” He grabbed Greg’s hands and pumped them up and down. “I’m modeling with Anders Berglund! Anders. Berglund! The Swedish supermodel! We’re partners for the No Black, No White shoot!”

He clasped his hands together while the rest of his body vibrated with pent-up energy. Anders Berglund was gargantuan, his gorgeous face on nearly every magazine cover in the grocery store checkout aisle. Kyrie’s fairy godmother had waved a magic wand over him, and Greg just stood there with his forehead puckered.

“Well?”

Greg slid his arms around Kyrie, rubbing his back as if he were cold. “So…this is what you’re gonna be wearing?”

“Maybe. Who knows? They gave us a few outfits to try on for size.”

“This is not an outfit.” Greg rubbed the holey fabric between his fingers.

Kyrie canted his head, eyebrows lifting as he delivered his best You’re kidding, right? stare. “This is only a sample. There will be all kinds of clothes at the shoot. I’m sure they’ll pick the best of the best after we’re done.”

“Won’t posing half-naked hurt your acting career?”

Kyrie scoffed, rolling his eyes. “No! Watch how many doors this opens. Just you wait.”

“And this is for what? Gay rights or…something?”

Kyrie ramped up the baleful expression. “Have you been listening to anything I’ve said for the past month? It’s not just gay. It’s everything. A campaign to call attention to all shades of the sexual identity spectrum. We gays are pretty widely accepted these days, you might be surprised to know.”

Greg’s arms stiffened around him, and Kyrie bit down on a sigh. Yes, we gays. Including you. Or maybe bi sits better, but you’ve been sticking it to a dude for almost a year and a half now. Time to officially join the not-so-straight club.

Kyrie expelled a frustrated breath after all. “It’s a phenomenal thing to be part of, never mind the sweet paycheck I’ll be pullin’ in. Never mind that I’ll be working with Anders Fucking Berglund and how much visibility I’ll get out of it.” He squeaked, elation bubbling from him despite Greg’s muted response.

“And I thought his first name was bad,” Greg groused, even as his fingers tested the thin mesh over Kyrie’s back and traveled lower.

Kyrie freely admitted he was damned stunning in the getup. All the white clothing they’d given him popped against the brown skin he’d inherited from his mother. Conversely, Anders was the fairest lad in all the land. He had pale blond hair and porcelain skin, fractured only by startlingly dark eyebrows and a couple of highly fortuitous moles rumored to have launched his career. He’d be dressed in black and guaranteed to look amazing. Together…this was going to be fucking epic.

“I thought you’d be proud of me.” Kyrie pouted, simultaneously arching his ass into Greg’s touch like a cat begging for attention.

“Of course I’m proud of you. I just worry about…well—”

“Everything?” Kyrie reached up to stroke Greg’s cheek, loving the feel of his trimmed beard and mustache combo. It could be soft, skimming over Kyrie’s nipples while Greg flicked a tongue and lit them on fire, or it could be coarse, bordering on harsh, as Greg went savage licking Kyrie’s ass and balls. Sure, that sort of thing was usually reserved for the times Greg had a few drinks on board and abandoned his inhibitions fully. But, oh God, when it happened…

Kyrie’s dick swelled thinking about Greg’s tongue swirling over his asshole. “Want me to pour you a little whiskey to help you wind down after your hard—” he squeezed Greg’s cock through his suit pants, “—day, sexy?”

Greg grunted and rocked his hips into Kyrie’s hand. “I can always use a little tension release.” His eyes, hooded, stared at Kyrie’s lips.

He parted them slowly and dragged his tongue tip across his top teeth. “I think I have one of those stress balls around here somewhere.”

Firm and fast, Greg hauled him flush against his chest and stole Kyrie’s breath. His fingers explored Kyrie’s ass crack—crude, demanding, bunching the satiny material between his cheeks before dragging lower to feather behind his nuts.

“Think I found my two favorite stress balls right here.” Greg wore a wicked grin. “Trying to hide ’em on me?”

He gathered the back of Kyrie’s tiny tight boxers, taking the wedgie to another level. He gasped and lifted on his toes. His sac was trapped, kinked up on one side of the seam almost painfully tight. Greg cupped Kyrie’s slung nuts, the touch so gentle it reminded him of ice over fire. Cool, crisp sheets after a day from hell.

Kyrie loved being the seductive bottom, igniting Greg with his teasing and flirting, backing off while he simmered. Then Kyrie would stoke him higher, feeding the inferno until Greg eventually crumbled and became the domineering top. Usually they made the game last, pushing each other’s buttons in their own drawn-out version of foreplay.

The sliver of pain slicing down Kyrie’s crack paired succulently with the throbbing wood pressed against his lower belly. All signs told him they were going straight to sudden death—no warm-up, no scrimmage, just hot, fast action. Game on.

It has been over a year since Kyrie and Greg finally sorted themselves out and got together. Sadly all that sorting never included coming out for Greg, and that secret they now both have to live with in day to day life is really starting to wear on Kyrie. He has never been in the closet, and not being able to be himself in public with the man he loves, for fear that Greg’s fears will eat him alive, is getting harder by the day. Slowly Kyrie is trying to show that Greg has nothing to fear, and there does seem to be some (infinitesimal) progress…but then Greg’s mother shows up and all bets are off and all closets are locked up tight. Having to now pretend to be nothing to the man he loves but a friend, and having the man he loves grow increasingly desperate to pretend that nary a gay thought has ever entered his mind-–let alone his bedroom-–might just be the thing that breaks this model’s back.

This book, unlike the other three books in the series, can not really be read as a standalone. I mean, I guess you could, but I don’t know why you’d want to. The build up to all the shit that is going down here in this story is kinda directly related to all the shit that went down in the previous book.

Though I must say that I think Greg’s case of the narnia syndrome was really turned up to the highest level possible in this book. I think I got the reasoning behind it a lot more in the last book, since he was trying to deal with his growing feelings for Kyrie as a lover, at the same time as having to deal with the world seeing them as nothing more than ex-brothers-in-law. There were some points of out and out denial to other people, but not nearly as bad as it was in this book. Had there been more of a catalyst for why he seemed to get worse as time went on, and not better, I would have understood it better.

Not that I didn’t enjoy the train-wreck-in-progress that was Kyrie and Greg’s relationship in this book. I really like books that force people to work out their shit, and that show that I love you is not the gateway to a HEA if you are not willing to work on the relationship every step of the way. I also liked how at the end Kyrie kinda realized how he wasn’t exactly helping things get better by acting on his anger. Don’t get me wrong, what Greg ends up doing is massively stupid and he should definitely be sleeping on the couch until his grovelling is sufficient…but it wasn’t just Greg’s (monumental) fuckups that made the relationship go to the brink.

The other part of the ending was a bit harder for me. Most of it was ok…but the part with the police and the shooting. Yeah, I’m a bit gun-shy of gun violence these days and that made it kinda hard to really enjoy. Plus I never really understood how the resolution of the crises happened. It seemed a bit too TV cop-show-magic for my liking. The tension and the subsequent break were great…but the way it came about didn’t come off as plausible at all to me.

Overall, I did enjoy this. And since Kyrie and Greg were by far my favorite pair in this series, I was really happy to see the next chapter in their life. Despite the few things that seemed a bit forced for dramatic effect, it was a good story.

***A copy of this book was provided to Bayou Book Junkie in exchange for a fair and honest review***

Greg and Kyrie have found their happily ever after. Living together in New York with the support of Kyrie's family, they are more in love than ever. Kyrie has landed a job in modeling and it is getting him the exposure he's always wanted. He's finally making a real name for himself even if it isn't on the stage. Greg is happy at his job at his new firm and things are going great.

However, when Kyrie starts to get close to Anders Berglund, the gorgeous and androgynous Swedish cover model the designers love to pair with Kyrie, Greg starts to get concerned about how long Kyrie will want to be in a relationship with him. Greg doesn't seem to realize his aversion to stepping out of the closet with Kyrie in public is starting to put a wall up between himself and Kyrie.

Kyrie has never hidden who he was. He's loud and proud and completely open about his sexuality. Greg, however, hides his sexuality away from everyone other than Kyrie’s supportive family and friends or alone with Kyrie in their home.

When Greg’s mom unexpectedly shows up on the couple's doorstep, in financial ruin and in need of a place to stay, Greg quickly shoves himself and the relationship he's shared with Kyrie back in the closet in their own home. His continual claim that he and Kyrie are merely friends and roommates continues to push Kyrie even further away. Now he will have to decide what is more important? Maintaining his straight status or being truthful and open and admitting to himself and the world that the most important thing to him is the man he loves?

I am on the fence about whether or not I enjoy reading about couples after they've already gotten their happy ending in a previous book. Generally, if I enjoyed the first book and was taken on a rollercoaster of emotions while they struggled to get together for whatever reason, then I do not like reading a book in which their relationship faces challenges and hardship. I want them to be happy and that to be the end of it. So with that being said, I found myself getting extremely frustrated and angry with Greg.

He and Kyrie were living together, they had already had to deal with living without each other in book three. So the fact that he still hides his relationship with Kyrie outside of their close group of friends and family made me mad. Here is a successful man who is in love with his best friend, they share a home, they live in New York and yet he still introduces Kyrie to people as his friend and/or brother of his ex-wife. No way would I put up with this after a year and a half together.

All in all, I enjoyed the book, the writing was good and the story kept me entertained. I liked that there was a good amount of humor along with the angst and drama and of course quite a bit of sex. The one place Kyrie and Greg did not seem to have any problems was between the sheets. I definitely would recommend reading Hard Act to Follow before reading this one. It gives a better look into the history of Greg and Kyrie and how much they've had to go through to be together.

This review was written for Joyfully Jay Reviews and can be accessed here: http://joyfullyjay.com/2016/07/review...

Balancing Act is the fourth book in the Shooting Star series, and should be read following Hard Act to Follow, where the MCs from this story fall in love. To sum up: Greg Dwyer was married to Jasmine Li, sister of out gay actor/model Kyrie Li. They divorced years ago, but Kyrie harbored a serious crush on his brother-in-law, and Greg’s continued contact with Jas’ family allowed a friendship—and eventual love affair—to develop.

It’s been more than a year since Greg and Kyrie started dating, and they now live together in NYC. This all happens without Greg coming out as bisexual, if not gay. Kyrie hates being in Greg’s closet, but he’s accommodated because he truly loves Greg. Greg feels guilty that he’s not doing right by Kyrie, and he’s becoming increasingly nervous that Kyrie will find a more glamorous boyfriend who will love him openly. A spontaneous trip gives Greg the courage to come out at home.

Well, until Greg’s estranged mother shows up at his doorstep, literally penniless, and outspokenly bigoted. She’s not happy that Greg still keeps in contact with his ex’s brother—and was never happy with that match because both Jas and Kyrie are half-black, half-Asian. She’s a repugnant human, in truth, and all Kyrie’s hopes for domestic bliss seem to be shattered under Mama’s pedicured heel. So, Kyrie looks for consolation with his model friend, Anders—a beautiful androgynous gay man. And Greg’s a wreck.

Okay, so I kinda wanted to knock Greg in the teeth. He was a colossal jackass, in his treatment of Kyrie before his mother came to town, but especially afterward. Egads, man! Grow a pair! I wanted to say, but he’s just a non-confrontational guy in this book. Which was out of character from his previously more assertive incarnation in Hard Act to Follow. The hard part of writing those middle years books is that the bright spark of initial attraction often settles into the banked heat of a smoldering briquette. Kyrie and Greg still have the heat, but Greg’s unwillingness to lay any public claim undermines their intimacy and blunts the romance. His paranoia over accidentally outing himself is a painful and stressful experience for both himself and Kyrie. Kyrie is a sweet, loving man whose patience has been tested beyond mortal limits, but his love for Greg is rock solid. He sure has plenty of opportunity to seek out affection elsewhere, but won’t stray—even when it seems they’re truly over.

Their relationship is really on the brink, and there are some domestic issues that are incidentally problematic—but which lead to a thrilling reunion. Expect Greg to make the right steps at just the right time to save his lover and their relationship. Also, expect some smoking-hot sexytimes, and some ice-cold shoulders. I liked how they both resolved to be better partners, and their future seems even brighter for their renewed commitment.

I received a free advanced copy of this book from the author, in exchange for an honest review.

I love this series! Sweet, fun, easily read and thoroughly enjoyable. All of the first three books works as stand alones, all though the couple 'visit' in other books, so we get to see snippets of their HEA, which is lovely for those of us that have read them all, but not confusing for those who haven't. That being said I will not recommend anyone read this one as a stand alone. This is the continued story of Kyrie and Greg from book 3, about what happens after the 'I love you'.

Kyrie and Greg are living together now and have been for more than a year since we last saw them. Kyrie has been offered some modelling jobs and takes them for the exposure. This leaves the couple rattled. Kyrie is suddenly surrounded by out and proud beautiful gay men, where as Greg is still struggling with getting more than a toe out of the closet. Jealousy and secrets are not conducive to a healthy relationship, no matter how hot the sex is and how affectionate and happy you are behind closed doors and when Greg's mother come for an extended stay, and even the privacy of their own home is no longer safe, feelings and emotions reach a boiling point.

Ms. Vale is a very evil person, there I've said it. I loved Greg in 'A Hard Act to Follow'. Truly. I did. But I have never wanted to smack someone upside the head as much as I wanted to smack Greg in this book.
The story was great, as always. The writig flowed nicely and the reader is kept engaged all the way through. I read it in one sitting, all during Sunday, completely ignoring all of the things I should have done instead.

No matter how much I wanted to smack Greg though, and how frustrated and quite frankly anxious I was whilst reading it, I can happily report that everything turns out well in the end and I will warmly recommended this book and the whole of the series.

The book comes out on June 27th this year. But whilst you wait, why not go to your local book seller and pick up the other three in the 'Shooting Stars' series. Forever Is Now, Double Takes, Hard Act to Follow. You won't be sorry.

Four stars!
This was a fabulous sequel to Hard Act to Follow. It brought everything together and showed how these two worked hard to be exactly what the other needed. Greg and Kyrie are so in love but they also still have things to overcome and I loved getting to see them worked out in this book.
Kyrie continues to be a character I enjoy. He isn’t afraid to be himself and he works hard to be someone Greg can respect and love. Kyrie doesn’t want to be a kept man and his drive to help brought them both down a path I enjoyed reading. I struggled with his push for Greg to come out. On one hand I get how hurt he was by Greg’s actions and how wrong Greg treated him. But he should have also known that coming out is a tough decision for anyone. I do like how he finally figured that out at the end and made the decision to let Greg take care of it in his own time. It some pretty extreme circumstances though.
Greg broke my heart a little bit in this book. He wanted to do what was right by Kyrie but he was so scared. Then when his mom showed up I knew things were going to get worse before they got bette.r And boy did they get worse! Greg’s mom was the perfect character to hate but she wasn’t really that bad. Well. Ok, she was. But it was more Greg’s expectations of himself that made his mom as bad as she was. But the way Greg fixed things after all that happened, it was so sweet and wonderful to watch Kyrie react.
I want more Anders. He’s definitely got a story and I want to read it. There’s more going on with him and I so want to know what happens. I hope he gets a happy ending because he completely deserves it. He’s sweet and a great friend to Kyrie.
My one issue with the story is that I would have preferred the storyline with the fan to be fleshed out a little more. If there were more hints leading up to it, or the fan was mentioned at least once more. That would have made the ending not feel so rushed.

I received this book from the author through the GoodReads M/M Romance group's, Don't Buy Me Love program, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

First I must admit that while I've read Double Takes (Shooting Stars #2) & Hard Act to Follow (Shooting Stars #3) I do not remember them.

Even though in my review of book #3 I wrote "I love Kyrie, absolutely adore his flamboyant little spastic heart! That young man is just the sweetest, funniest guy." I still have no memory of him. That is not a reflection on the books it's just that I have a notoriously bad memory.

Therefore, I can say that although I'd recommend reading at least 'Hard Act To Follow' before this book it's not absolutely necessary. Whether or not someone has read the earlier books in this series they will not be lost.

After reading Greg think... "Yes, he had a tiny niggle of guilt this was a sleight of hand to keep Kyrie from noticing...." and ...."because a happy Kyrie meant a happy Greg." and finally, "He shook Kyrie's shoulders to pile on the bullshit thicker..." SMH... I really wanted to smack Greg upside the head. I progressed from wanting to smack him to wanting Kyrie to dump him. I wish that I could say that by the end I'd totally forgiven Greg and wanted their HEA but I honestly can't. It was wrapped up too quickly and easily. Had we seen Greg repenting for his stupid, selfishness....if the book had been a little longer.... then maybe I'd have forgiven him but as it stands I still want to smack him and I still want Kyrie to have a man that unashamedly adores him.

However, all that being said I am still a K. Vale fan and look forward to future books in this series. Dare I hope that Anders story is next? (hint, hint)

REVIEWED FOR PRISM BOOK ALLIANCE

Balancing Act will work best for you if you have already read Hard Act to Follow as it is a continuation of Kyrie and Greg’s story.

Eighteen months after meeting and Greg is still uncomfortable when it comes to his sexuality and still very much in the closet when it comes to most people in his life. When the door is closed and it’s just him and Kyrie he is a man passionately in love but is almost constantly worried that he isn’t enough and that Kyrie will find better. When Kyrie finds success with his modelling career and meets the beautiful Anders Greg’s jealousy takes on new meaning and it feels like his life is slowly unravelling.

When Greg’s homophobic and extremely dislikeable mother arrives on their doorstep with no money and Greg and Kyrie revert back to being flatmates it’s quickly obvious that something has to give. Barbara is perhaps one of the vilest characters I have come across in a while and I don’t think I’m ready to forgive her for her poor behaviour just yet.

There is a lot of soul searching and high drama before the author gives us a pretty sweet ending and introduces new characters that I look forward to seeing further down the line.

To be honest, I’ve only read 1 other book in this series — Hard Act to Follow — which is the start of Greg and Kyrie’s story. When I realized that this book was a continuation of them, I couldn’t grab it quick enough.

I do love that we get to follow along and catch up with the duo, because I was completely wrapped up in them before. I really enjoyed how each of the characters didn’t change drastically in between the books. Usually with a second book, something changes in the characters. Not the case with these two.

Kyrie is still a loveable guy, and Greg was still super serious and likeable in his own way. The sexual tension between these two is off the charts, and the sex scenes are great as well.

The tension and drama that was happening throughout the book was very predictable, yet it was still done very well. Vale did a great job at keeping it going through because there wasn’t a time when I was bored with it or burned out.

I do hope that Vale continues on with Kyrie and Greg’s story because even though it did wrap up very nicely in this book, I just can’t get enough of them!

I received a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review

It was sooooo nice to revisit with Kyrie and Greg. I loved their last book when Greg mostly got his head out of his hiney and reached for his happiness, but there were still road blocks for them. Greg still struggled with being publically acknowledged as gay, and Kyrie struggled with Greg remaining mostly in the closet a year and a half later. When his mother comes to stay with them unexpectedly, and Greg reverts to pretending he and Kyrie are just friends, things get really strained between the guys. Thank god they finally get their acts together, and Greg realizes what is most important to him. I enjoyed reading about their relationship a while after they finally got together. Although there were struggles, I was glad to witness Greg finally coming out of his self-imposed shell. I also liked Andy, and would love to read more about him :-)
Excellent continuation to the series.

I was given a copy of this book free by the author in exchange for an unbiased review.

Greg and Kyrie are still together but Greg doesn't have more than 1 foot out of the closet.
Kyrie has landed a modelling job and meets top model Anders of whom Greg is jealous.
Loved when Greg's mom came to visit, it bought some light relief even if it didn't do alot for Greg and Kyrie's relationship as Greg got pushed back into the closet.
The kidnapping was a novel way for Greg to get his act together. I am wondering whether we will see more of these guys or if the next book ( if there is one) will be Anders and his bodyguard's story.

Awww !! Greg and Kyrie's (Kyrie pronounced dearie) story is absolutely amazing !!
We already knew form book 3 that they had something going on, but in this, Greg's insecurities about admitting that he's gay come to the forefront. There's a few things that cause him to be jealous but also to try and tamp down showing his true rainbow colours.
I've loved every single book in this series and, just like the others this hit all my emotions; Happy, laughing out loud, angry, worried and crying !!
Absolutely amazing and i HOPE that Anders and the bodygaurd are going to get a story as i think that would be quite an interesting read.

Loved it

I just love these characters, kyrie and Greg and that it followed on from the previous book. These characters are some of my favourite couple's and I would love another book with these two, maybe the wedding? I would also love anders or as kyrie calls him Andy to find his ever after. Brilliant writing as always

I received Balancing Act through the Don’t Buy My Love group in exchange for an honest and unbiased review. This is the fourth book in the ‘Shooting Stars’ series, but the second book dealing with the relationship between Greg Dwyer, a lawyer, and Kyrie Li, an aspiring actor. It’s told in third person from both Greg’s and Kyrie’s povs.

Reviewed for Rainbow Gold Reviews

Balancing Act follows the life of Greg & Kyrie one and a half year later after the third books ends. So if you have not read at least the previous book you should start with that first, before reading this one. That beeing said let´s start with this story.

Greg and Kyrie are still happily together or so it seems. There are clouds rising and intruding in the happy bubble Greg and Kyrie are living in. What happens when two lives, which are opposites, collides? Expectations grows and you just know you want more, if just a little, as you have had until now. Then welcome in the turmoil that has become Greg and Kyries life.

Kyrie is an out and proud man who loves his man dearly but wishes that, just for once, Greg wouldn´t flinch away from Kyrie´s affectionate side when outside of their comfortable home. Greg also loves Kyrie. You can feel and see it, but first of all, he isn´t a person who openly shows feelings and secondly he is still in the closet, kind of. Add to that a new character, a gorgeous man named Anders as well as Greg´s mother and you can watch their happy bubble bursting.

There is a lot of learning going on, on both sides. I liked Anders, his insights and would love to see his story next. Also loved the drama going on with Anders, Kyrie and a mysterious man. Mommy dearest is a bitch, not going to say more. Greg, hmm, I wanted to throttle him, was mad at him but seriously?? he was trying, tiny steps and all that and his jealousy was just fun to watch. I could understand from where he was coming, that it isn´t easy if you still want your mother to be proud and can´t achieve it. Was he behaving like an idiot at times? Absolutely, but that made this book also a wonderful read..wachting as somebody grows into this person he was meant to be. Kyrie is Kyrie. You have to like this guy. What he expects of Greg is also comprehensible for me but sometimes he is just too fast in what he wants for others to follow. I loved that both of them came to their conclusions in their own time…it made the ending more real for me.

I like this authors writing style. She manages to draw me in and keep me interested in the story. I hope this series will have a next book with *cough* Anders as main character

4 to 4 ½ stars!!!

I really enjoyed this story! I have not yet read the other stories in this series, and after reading this one, I cannot wait to read the other books! While I haven’t read the other books in the series (specifically Book #3, Hard Act to Follow, where Kyrie & Greg’s story begins), I didn’t feel lost, so I don’t think it is necessary to read the others first (although it is likely a good idea to do so, and I will definitely be re-reading this after reading Hard Act to Follow).

Greg and Kyrie have been going out for over a year, sharing an apartment and enjoying life. Well, with one problem – Kyrie is an out and proud gay man, while Greg is firmly in the closet. Introduce Anders, an extremely attractive supermodel who becomes close with Kyrie and Greg’s jealous and insecurities come to the forefront. Especially when Barbara, Greg’s hateful and selfish mother comes to stay.

I really enjoyed the development of the story. Too often, especially in stories with similar plots/plot points (i.e. evil mothers, couples where one is not out of the closet, jealousy over friends, etc), you can almost predict what is going to happen and the plot can seem a bit static. But, this was not the case here. You could see the character development, and there was never an “aha” moment where a character magically changes, more like a realization of the need to change and attempts (and failures) to make those changes. I also enjoyed how the characters weren’t cookie cutter. Anders wasn’t the stereotypical model/close friend the boyfriend is jealous off – his character is developed and you can see he is a sweet guy and a good friend to Kyrie. And perhaps more importantly, while I really wanted to slap Greg up the head fairly often for how his insecurities impacted Kyrie, it is also clear that Kyrie is not perfect (although I would like to say that Kyrie was nowhere near as bad as Greg).

I really enjoyed this story, and will definitely be reading the other stories in this series soon! Also, I really hope that Anders gets his own story soon (possibly one featuring the attractive bodyguard?)!

I received a free copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

The first thing i have to say, is that my rating is heavily influenced by the fact that this book is a part of a series of which I've only read one other book previously, and that was not this couple. I didnät realize it when requesting for the book.

However, I was very pleasantly surprised and I believe that if I'll buy Hard Act to Follow and sread this one again after that, my rating will go up.

I love in-the-closet MCs and their struggle, especially when it's affecting a relationship. In Balancing Act there were plenty of issues caused by not only Greg being closeted, but also his jealousy (another theme I love). There was also the fact that he was a complete doormat in regards to his mother, and his inability to stand up to her really got to me.

Still the author managed to make the story involve both the MCs, both of them made mistakes and acted thoughtlesly, even if it's hard to not feel more sympathy towards Kyrie.

Near the end there was a situation, which I could have lived without. I was hoping more that Greg would have found the courage to be who he is, proudly, without any one event helping him take that step.

The biggest plus in Balacing Act was that I felt the author had evolved and that this book was simply better written than Double Takes, which I've read previously.

Solid three stars and my thanks to the author as well as the program for providing me with a copy.

A Joyfully Jay review.

4 stars

The follow up to Hard Act to Follow, Kyrie and Greg's story. Everything seems to be going well for the couple. The two are still going hot and heavy. Career wise Kyrie is becoming more well known, walking the runway and doing promotional work. He's gotten close to very popular model, Anders Berglund and have become great friends. The media sure loves them anyway. Greg is a bit jealous but he trusts Kyrie. The only real hiccup is that Kyrie is pushing for Greg to come out and Greg is still uncomfortable expressing his newfound sexuality. Kyrie doesn't want to be Greg's dirty little secret and doesn't want to hide their relationship. Greg wants that too and tries to make a valiant effort. Then an unexpected visit from Greg's destitute mother has staunches all of Greg's efforts. Greg seems to regress to old habits causing a rift in his and Kyrie's relationship.

I enjoyed reading the follow up. Seeing how Greg and Kyrie's relationship have developed since readers last saw them. Anders was an interesting character and I felt very curious about him. I'm hoping readers will get to see more of him in the future.

Greg's mother, well there's just no words I can use to describe. She was just really something to experience and as far as mothers go I could really identify with Greg's feelings concerning her.

I loved the ending, it was sweet. I do hope that the author has more planned for them.

I got this book for free in exchange for an honest review from the author through the DBML program of the M/M Romance group at goodreads.

I liked seeing into the relationship of Kyrie and Greg, that like some romance do, the author didn't hide the rocky parts of the relationship. It took a to bring them both to their senses before then they focused mostly on their view and forgot what view the other had and why they had that view. Anders was a good friend to both men really even if he was originally in the plot as someone for Greg to be jealous of.

What turned me off is that it took the event mentioned in the spoiler to shock them into realizing what was Important and not focus on themselves. The bad mother/mother-in-law that was Greg's mother moving in just as Greg was ready to step out of the closet, throwing him deeper into the closet seemed to set the relationship back and Greg knew it would hurt the relationship but heaven forbid he upset his mother. I also wished the story was longer and we got to see them put the work in to rebuild the relationship.

All in all a likeable read of an established couple, best friends becoming lovers, getting through the rough patches. and ending up being an OFY.

This is book four in this series and it is a run on from book three. Or maybe I should say continuous of book three.

Kyrie and Greg are back together again but only a year and a half after they got together. You would think they had surpassed all of the rough areas in their relationship when they finally admitted their feelings and came out and told Kyrie's family and ex wife but that is not the case.

Greg cannot get over his fear of coming out to others so he hides his relationship with Kyrie behind closed doors and does not let the outside world in, including his own mother. This is the cause of all the drama that follows these two men.

In this book Kyrie and Greg both have to learn that their is give and take in relationships. Greg needs to learn to that is ok to be himself and love who he loves regardless of what anyone else thinks and Kyrie needs to learn that people come out when they are ready and not on his time table. They both need to learn patience and trust. The question is will they learn it time or will they wait till it is too late, in more ways then one.

I cannot wait for book five too come out and find out what happens with Ander's. It should be another exciting read. Great job on another amazing book K Vale.

I came into Balancing Act by K Vale having read the rest of the series. Hard Act to Follow, also about Kyrie Li and Greg Dwyer was great. I keep coming back because I love Kyrie as a character and his evolution is great to watch. Seeing him finally have some career success in Balancing Act was great. However, reading Greg's very real struggles was hard. Especially when set against Kyrie's accepting family and the contrast to Greg's mother. Her appearance was necessary, but she definitely overstayed her welcome.

The rumors about Kyrie and a fellow model, Andy, plus the major shows they got to walk in was great for the Project Runway fan in me. The detailed attention to the photo shoot was well done. There were a few well-placed surprises, even if it seemed like the positive attention to Greg was lacking at times. I cannot wait to see what's next for Kyrie and Greg, as well as whether Andy gets a book next.
