I was expecting a sweet romance, especially since the cover shows a church. It was a steamier read than expected but does have some intrigue in addition to the romance. Lots of pre-wedding talk, I really thought we'd get a chapter on all the details the couple chose for their big day. But the wedding seemed almost glossed over in order to keep this a short novella. This is the only one in the series that I have read and I think I would have enjoyed it more if all three in the series were combined into an actual novel.

A Wedding in Maine

This is certainly not a book that I normally read but I liked the first book in this series so I decided to read this one also. It was a good quick read and of course there is going to be a third book. I'm sure I'll read that one also.

A Wedding in Maine was a great follow up to The McCullagh Inn in Maine with more emphasis on the romance than the first book.

Chelsea O'Kane is settling into the life she's built with her boyfriend Jeremy Holland running the inn the two renovated together. After Jeremy proposes and the two begin to plan their wedding at the inn, life couldn't be more perfect. But in Chelsea's experience the bad always follows the good in her life and soon the past she thought was behind her comes back and threatens everything she holds dear.

Chelsea and Jeremy's relationship is even more solid in this book and I liked that the two were able to settle into a relatively normal life together after the events of the first book. I enjoyed the scenes of them working at the inn together and the little routines they'd developed. Their physical relationship continues to be fantastic with the perfect amount of sexy scenes throughout the book. My one complaint about their relationship was a few instances where they both kept relatively minor things from each other that I felt they would have been better able to work through together.

The plot in this book was a little less developed than the first book in the series, but it was still enjoyable. Chelsea's father is released from prison and is pushing to be back in her life and her brother Paul is also quite adamant that Chelsea agree. I didn't love how pushy they both were or how they disregarded her wishes. Thankfully Jeremy was very much on her side and I loved him for that. There is a plot related to a crime family in the area that's tied to Chelsea's father which I thought added an interesting element to the story. Plus I'm very curious to know what that last scene was about which has me very interested in the final book in the trilogy.

While I did have a few issues with Chelsea's family in this book, I did ultimately enjoy A Wedding in Maine and I can't wait to read the final book of the series.

I loved that we're getting more of Chelsea and Jeremy fricking Holland! This book picks up about a year after the first one ended- Chelsea and Jeremy have settled into running the inn and are in the midst of planning their wedding when strange things start to occur, setting them both on edge.

Once again there is a lot of story packed into this quick read, and has left me still wanting more! I really enjoyed the mystery to this one, and just adore how protective Jeremy is of Chelsea- and she of him. I liked that things weren't quite what they seemed, and just when you think all is well...well, we're left with that epilogue! When does the next book come out???

As I said when I read "The McCullagh Inn in Maine" I said that romance was not my normal genre of reading but that with the suspense and thriller elements I thoroughly enjoyed it. The same is true with this novella which builds on the events of the first. It is ultimately a story about love between Chelsea and Jeremy as she accepts his proposal and they prepare for their wedding to be held at the Inn. It is also a story about second chances, about reconciliation between Chelsea and her father although this is a process which takes time. It also about the events of the part haunting the present.
The epilogue opens up the possibility of many more stories in this setting and there is a short excerpt from the next novella included which is published in June in the UK.
As with many of the Bookshots I am reminded of the days of the pulp and digest magazines when a series of stories on the same characters would appear in future issues. In a sense I believe the bookshot initiative is an attempt to do in the 21st century what the pulps and digests did between the 1920's and the 1980, and which a few magazines still do today. Many of the Bookshots lend themselves not only to future novelettes but also to novels - which in pulp and digest days were published as serials.

Again I just got angry because this reads like a book chopped up into parts to make more money. You're left hanging for the next part.

Quick read. I enjoyed the first book and this was available on my overdrive. I really liked the suspense in this one and I'm intrigued by the epilogue so I definitely want to read the next one.

I couldn't wait to read it, the beginning was promising, but it dragged on and on and that's sad for a book only 120 pages! It fizzled and went no where! Not reading the 3rd!

Meh, didn't hold my interest. Was this supposed to be a mystery or romance. Didn't do either well.

A Wedding in Maine was a cute follow up to book one of the series. This go-round? Chelsea and Jeremy are settling in to their new life running an Inn and the idea of...getting married. Things are good but then strange things start happening. Mishaps at the inn, things just slightly out of place, her dad getting out of jail. It's enough to make a soon-to-be-bride's eye twitch!

I had a good time with this one. It's a quick novella that's a bit steamy, has a little mystery/suspense, and deals with difficult family dynamics and the future. I really liked Chelsea and Jeremy's relationship and that even when things are going sideways they look to each other for support. The little bit of suspense was nice though a wee bit anticlimactic in the end. It was still a fun way to spend a couple hours and, oh, the lead up to book 3 was an interesting teaser, too! Definitely looking forward to more time with Jeremy and Chelsea and their quaint little Inn.

I really need to learn to how to just walk away from a story if it isn't working for me. It's not that this was an awful story, but I really didn't think it was good.

I've read one of Jen McLaughlin's other series, and it was good, which is why I was excited to find this series in James Patterson's BookShots series (which are novella-length books that are supposed to be quick reads that are entertaining but don't require much time investment - perfect for people who love to read but are busy). But for whatever reason, A Wedding in Maine didn't hold my interest. Even though it was only a little over 100 pages, and was a continuation of the story that began in The McCullough Inn in Maine, it took me a couple of nights to get through this story. The dialogue was stilted, the situations contrived, and I felt no connection whatsoever to either of the main characters. Which is why I need to learn to walk away from a book that I'm not liking. I have too many other books to read!

I'm not sure if the novella length is keeping the author from fully developing the characters, or if suspense is a new genre for her, but these stories just didn't work for me. Even though they were supposed to be BookShots, they seemed much much longer, and that's not a good thing!

There is way too much explicit sex in this book for me, and it comes on strong very early on. I was not expecting that at all based on the very innocuous cover! This is also the second of a series, which I didn't realize when I chose it at random from the library. I felt a bit like I came in on the middle of the movie, even though all the backstory is explained as needed. I like the idea of Bookshots very much, and I think this does everything it sets out to do. It hooks the reader quickly with an exciting plot and a small cast of believable characters, and most readers can finish the book in a couple of hours or less. I'm not invested enough to want to read the rest of the McCullagh Inn series, but I'm still interested enough in the Bookshots concept to try some of the others.

Just okay

It was a sweet little story complete with a bit of mystery.

Yet the characters and the story are just lacking - not sure why. It was a short book so I HAD to finish it yet I couldn't wait for it to be done.

Was looking forward to the next installment of the Chelsey and Jeremy story. It wasn't what I had hoped. A bit of a non-ending and the sex was a bit gratuitous. 2.5 stars

It is more a short story than a novel. Not much suspense and fairly predictable.

It really was a very boring book. I was waiting and waiting for drama to unfold but nothing happened.

Chelsey and Jeremy are doing up the inn and want to hold their wedding there so they can advertise the Inn as a wedding venue. Everything is good until Chelseas dad arrives back on the scene. He is after something for the Sullivans who start doing things to the Inns. Chel is drugged, her engagement ring is stolen etc. It is only when her dad tells her he needs a littke black book hidden in a wall in the inn to give back to the sullivans. Chels says yes but then tells her dad to leave her aline and never see her again. He gets the book from the wall and gives it back to sullivans and leaves. He is true to his words until Jeremy gets him to come to the Inn. Jeremy locks Chel and her dad in a room. They start talking and next thing are hugging and she tells him to come to the wedding to walk her down the isle. Happy familts after all. Really boring and not how i saw the book playing out. Have to read book 3 only to find out who the sullivans gave the little black book to at the end.

Wow! This book went by a lot faster than the first one for me, I felt like it wasn't as action-packed either. I wasn't bored with it but as I neared the end, I thought to myself, there is no way I am going to get answers to the questions I have and, then BAM epilogue and what can I say? I am immediately finding a copy of the next book because shiiiiiit I got goosebumps reading that last line! I. Need. To. Know. What. Happens. Next!

What I really enjoy about Jen McLaughlin's bookshots is that she is just so talented that she gets so much useful information into such a short amount of words! I was thinking the last few chapters that the first book was better but I think they are pretty equal now that I have finished it! I can't wait to read the next one!!

Jeremy Holland asks Chelsea O’Kane to marry him and gives her the engagement ring that used to be her mother’s. They are trying to make a go of the inn which they have renovated and Chelsea has an idea of using it for weddings. She and Jeremy would have their wedding there and would showcase all of the inn’s possibilities. Shortly before the wedding, the engagement ring disappears with no one knowing what happened to it.

The epilogue indicates a wealthy man has the ring along with a journal that Chelsea’s father retrieved for a local crime family. This man is supposedly Chelsea’s unknown brother. So, the story continues.

Wow, don't judge a book by its cover! I picked this up unenthusiastically when I was looking for some light audiobook accompaniment to my chores. I was expecting a slog of schmaltzy fluff based on the cover, but I'd had some success with other bookshots offerings. *Surprise* This is a sequel to a crime thriller with, I'm assuming, sexytimes romance. This book starts with wedding planning but quickly morphs into a suspense novella. Having not read the first book I wasn't emotionally invested in the family drama, but it was a satisfying way to get through a lot of cooking and cleaning. The author relies heavily on cliché turns of phrase, especially in the romantic scenes.

A Wedding in Maine, by Jen McLaughlin, a bookshot by James Patterson. This book I would not normally read, but wife got the first book of the series, The McCullagh Inn, I read it and got hooked, so now I will have to read the series.
These books are quick reads. I recommend you read the series in order. This book takes place approximately one year after the ending of first book. This book is action packed, and has you turning the pages as fast as you can read. After reading this book, now I will have to read books three and four. These books are short reads, you can read in a hour or two. If you like love stories with action packed, you might find this to be a really fun read

Partly my fault for not realizing this was a second in a series when I picked up a "Bookshots". This starts with Jeremy and Chelsea getting engaged. But mysterious things are happening at their Inn. A fire, broken water pipes etc. Who is behind it? Steamier then I was expecting. I really didn't care about the characters. The plot seemed contrived. And even when it is explained it really isn't an ending. Left me feeling like they split up one novel into three books so they could make more money. I doubt I will go out of my way to find the third book and see what happens.

This is the sequel to The McCullagh Inn in Maine and I loved it nearly as much as the first one but not quite!!
I still love Chelsea and Jeremy, they are a wonderful couple, so loving and caring. Chelsea is still quite mysterious and throughout the story details of her past start to come to light.
In this book Chelsea and Jeremy are planning a wedding which will take place at McCullagh Inn but quite a few things happen along the way to try and stop it from happening.
A lovely story with the happy ending that we all long for.
I can’t wait to read the next one in the series!

The cliffhanger of an ending made up for a rather uneventful novel. I look forward to Book 3 because of it. There was something that bothered me a bit: The writer referred to Chelsea's ex Richard as her ex-husband and her ex-boyfriend at alternate points. It's never made clear if she married him or not, or if that was some kind of continuity error. Either way, looking forward to the next book. Jeremy (the hero) is a great guy and has the patience of Job I think!
