Archer: Blood & Grace

Rate this book
Archer fell from Heaven for a crime he didn’t commit, but he has a chance to earn his way back. His instructions are simple: vanquish evil and turn his black wings white before darkness fills his soul, damning him to Hell forever.

His mission becomes complicated when Piper, a girl from his past, enters his life once again. He can't put her in danger, but he can't bring himself to push her away. Not when being near her keeps the darkness from consuming him.

No Fallen has ever made it back to Heaven. Can Archer earn his way back before it’s too late, or will he sacrifice everything to fulfill a plan he doesn’t even know he’s part of?

Thoughts: Interesting concept of fallen angels and vampires. Yes, God is in this story but not religion, so if you are a religious person and easily offended, don't read this. If you are able to understand that this is a completely fictitious story then I say go for it. Archer has had a pretty rough life and it seems that once he gets to heaven it doesn't get much better since he is falsely accused of something so he gets kick out, thus becoming a fallen angel. The once purely white wings become black and to earn his way back into heaven Archer has to rid the earth of so much evil to turn his wings white again. The bad new.... there's no instruction manual so like most fallen, it is assumed that killing the "evil" is what has to be done. What's amazing is the vampires and I actually figured them out before we were told (but I won't tell lol). That was the most fascinating part, where the vampires came from. I really enjoyed the story and characters and at times frustrating since I had some clue as to what needed to be done and I had just as much info as Archer had. But, I know, the story wouldn't have been the same lol. I do look forward to the next book!

Received this free book for an honest review. ~ Not your average Angels & Demons book, but it has a very unique take on it. I must say that first and foremost... OMG! Then I also must apologize for taking the Lord's name in vain. I've never read a book like this before and I felt a certain kind of way about it. Reading the other reviews, so did they. But I must implore you to take a moment and realize the context this book is written in... fiction. You read books about Angels and Demons a lot but no one has yet, that I've come across, had brought God forth, front and center. Read the book with this in mind... This book is fictional; the characters are fictional; and when you've read the book completely and realize that God does work in mysterious ways and we aren't all privy to His plans-- the author still keeps that authenticity, if nothing else. I don't usually go into details about a book because I want new readers to experience it like I did, but I felt I had to say something because I couldn't get my mind to digest what I was reading. It felt foreign... wrong. But then I took a step back and read the book without judgements and let the story unfold. I love it! It's unexpected and thoughtful, even hopeful. That being said, take a look and see what you think. Enjoy!

Without giving away any of the plot I must say what an interesting new take on the supernatural order and origin of things (if you've read it you'll know what I mean). I love it when a new aspect like that appears in a story.

Archer travels a dark and tortured path, hes conflicted and battles for every inch that he gains. He seeks redemption before he destroys himself irrevocably. He and other characters in the book have depth and are believable. Not everything is rosy which gives the story interest.

I willingly admit that I am rubbish at picking up the subtext in books, I read the surface and read for the characters and not the hidden meanings. But I liked the messages that I picked up in this one. That the right path isn't always obvious, despite the neon signs directing you a certain way, it may be instead be a path that is hidden until you are on top of it that should be the road you travel.

I'll be waiting to read book 2 to see what will happen next.

I felt this was a wee bit slow to begin with, and I was almost giving up. I'm so glad that I stuck with it. It's like seeing an old story with fresh eyes! I won't spoil anyone else's enjoyment of this book by letting something slip.

I have to say - and this is going to sound a bit weird for a story about a Fallen Angel - please clear your mind about religion. This is a made-up story from Alex Tuttle's imagination. You're not going to be struck down for reading fiction! Come to this with a mind clear of any pre-prejudice.

I found this to be well written, action packed, and very unusual. Yes, it is dark. It's supposed to be. It is very well thought out with clever twists and everything a reader needs for an entertaining paranormal story - bad guys, romance, a non-storybook God, angels, the Fallen, and good guys. Great read!

This is my first read by Alex Tuttle - very impressed. I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.

A well written story about Fallen Angels and a God that plots, twist and uses people in vicious ways. Not my favorite kind of book and definitely not a topic I like to see twisted and distorted. My views aside this is a well written story of how a good man is punished but used to show another way to return to Heaven after being kicked out. A wild and intriguing story with lots of action with romance thrown in. As for Archer when he does become one of the Fallen he at first succumbs to the hype but later finds a new understanding that actually makes a difference. But cursing Angels, Angels having sex and being in random relationships even having babies made it really a lot more than I could take. I am at odds with this book, but I guess that is apparent.

A very intense book about fallen angels. Everyone has to follow the rules, even God. But he has a plan that will take an innocent angel from heaven and turn him into murderer. Along the way the fallen, Archer, will have to make choices that may save him and allow him back into heaven or send him to hell. It seems no matter what he does his choices are taking him closer to hell. But he has the love of a wonderful woman and some little help from God. But will it be enough?

Loved this !

Fantastic storyline which really appealed to me - fallen, fallible Angels, a capricious God and really well-written main characters, it had some really clever elements that drew me in and I couldn't put it down.

Just how I like my reading. Drama, angst and an enduring love story, with a nice little twist at the end - not all is always as it seems. Did feel a little rushed in the last quarter of the book but still one of my favourites this year. Can't wait to read more.

** I received an ARC in exchange for a honest review **

Having read Spark of Light I have to say I was a bit disappointed with Archer. I felt the story was a little rushed and it just didn't pull me in. Saying that though, I feel in this case it is more that this story isn't my cup of tea than there is anything wrong with it. Still love this author.

I alpha’d/beta’d this book cause I’m cool like that. LOL Us beta hellions did our due diligence on this one and gave feedback. ;) This review might be a bit long cause I have so much to say.

Archer is an innocent that gets dragged into God’s plan to change something he put into place a long time ago. I loved Archer, he was methodical, determined and still was able to maintain his compassion when his actions conflicted with his morals. Seeing this story unfold from many POV’s is what really made this book so excellent for me.

And Piper was a great addition to this story. She had this sass to her, she didn’t allow you to wallow. Even when she’s mad, she was still there to help. She was a ride or die chic, as my husband would say. And that spoke to me, cause I’m the same way. Don’t fuck with my tribe, I will cut you. ::Ahem:: Sorry ’bout that, got a little carried away there.

The intense internal emotions that are going back and forth in this book are very heightened, it’s, uhm, I don’t even know how to explain it. His determination to get back to heaven is a bit single minded. I don’t recall the last time I wanted something as bad as Archer does in this book. But I remember what it feels like and it was hard to read from the outside looking in, because I felt I understood where he was coming from.

The action on top of that, I mean, there is a lot of violence in this book. A lot. I’ll just leave it at that. Except to say that I do not have a weak stomach and at times I was like, “Eww, gross!” Touche’ Alex. I bow to your descriptive writing, sir.

And for me it was really hard to get around the whole god is not infallable aspect. It was a highly original spin on free will and the christian religion in general. And this is gonna sound so terrible, but it just made me pissed off at god in the book. The character god in the book was a douche canoe of the highest order. (Ever heard that song, What if God was one of us?) Even though I know its fiction, but yeah, god was a terrible character in this book. Its almost as if he is portrayed as the antagonist in this book. There’s not really like a tangible bad guy, its just god. But he’s not at the same time. Its hard to come to grips with that for me. That part still kinda rubbed me the wrong way cause I’m a casual observer, I go to church a few times a month. He was just such an asshole. But in a way its like, wow, what a spin to put on it, its just really, really cool. I mean the idea for the story is fucking brilliant. I’ve never read a story that combined religion with mythical aspects so well. It made for a great plot twist at the end.

I would not suggest this to people who are religious to read it, but if you don’t have any qualms about that, get this book.

*** This is a copy of my Amazon review. ***

I received an ARC eBook from the author without any strings attached unless i wanted to post an honest review, and here it is.

Are a fan of angels of many kinds? This is your book. If not, try it anyways. The writing is surprisingly crisp with some imaginative new twists on the battle of fallen angels and also dealing with a God who manipulates It's own rules but at least has a conscience.

I must warn you, this story starts a bit slow but once the author sets up some of the characters and back stories, it captured this reader and I thoroughly enjoyed the story. There are few nuances the reader needs to pick on or you will be left wondering at a few points of the story. Very sneaky of the author. And there is love!

What you may learn is that wrong does feel very right and right feels very wrong.

I give this story 4.3 stars and a very positive recommendation.

A very interesting take on Fallen Angels and Vampires. Overall, not a bad story. For the most part the main character was well developed and the story stayed focused. the supporting characters were well placed and moved the plot along accordingly. I could see some readers having issues with as God is a character and is not always shown in a favorable light though.
