Artwork: 5 out of 5
I loved both the cover and the inside artwork. Per usual, the styles were completely different, but I enjoyed both. Richard Elson did a superb job capturing the emotions and darkness of Morbius and his world without being too literal. Bold pops of color kept the comic visually appealing, and the movement and characters were perfect. The artwork never felt stiff or boring.
Story: 5 out of 5
For those new to Morbius... he was a Nobel Prize-winning scientist who studied blood diseases. Upon discovering he was dying of a blood disorder, he attempted to cure himself (with the help of Emil Nikos), but instead he was accidentally turned into a vampire similar to those from lore. Morbius desperately wants to be good, and seeks redemption for the horrible acts he has committed. He attempts to fight his wicked side, although that is often easier said than done. In Morbius: The Living Vampire, we meet up with the legend and learn a bit about his past. This issue was essentially an introduction to Morbius. While just a little intro of what’s to come, I loved this first issue. It was unexpectedly cocky and sarcastic at times. I was expecting nothing but doom and gloom, so it was an entertaining surprise. I can’t wait for Issue #2
