Love, Marriage, and a Baby Carriage

Rate this book
Theodore Reinhart is a young man looking for love. In San Diego. At a convention. For penguin shifters. WaddleCon is the go-to event of the year when looking for your life partner, but Theodore isn’t comfortable with the game they’ve turned dating into, nor does the convention provide for the gay community. A mistake in speed dating table assignments puts Theodore in front of Wesley O’Neill, a handsome and confident model who lets it slip that he’s definitely noticed the spark of attraction between them.

A perfect date ends prematurely when Theodore finds an abandoned egg in a bathroom trash can. Unable to leave it behind, Theodore and Wesley play a mad game of cat and mouse across the resort trying to keep it safe, all while growing closer to one another. Wesley may be the forever partner Theodore came looking for, but their relationship won’t work if they don’t make room for a little addition to the family.

OMG! What a cute and charming story! And penguins?!?!?! Ah, come on, you gotta be kidding me! Who doesn’t love those adorable, waddling penguins! The story was so cute and funny! I really wish this was a full length novel or at least a 100pages novella instead of a short story. This was very VERY fun! I really loved Wes and Theo and the chemistry between them. And to top that adorable gooey sweetness, a baby penguin! Melted my heart straight away! Highly recommends this one to anyone who loves a sweet, charming, short read! 😘

Favorite excerpts from the short story: 💙

“Maybe you can go and ask which of the ladies have a hot brother.” I couldn’t help but laugh. “Even if I were at an event catering to my tastes, I don’t think I have the guts to do speed dating.”

I felt like I had “fuck me” written on my forehead, and I didn’t need Wesley to think I wanted to give it up to him just because he was the only man around interested in another guy.

“Theo!” “I’m sorry! I’ve never been kissed by a guy! I didn’t know it’d feel that good!” “My God, this is a train wreck.” Wesley straightened, holding the egg against his chest.

“Just focus on the goal.” “Not dying?” “Think about how incredible our sex is going to be as soon as we get to my room.” “We’re still having sex? Even after all this?” “Especially after this,” he corrected. “I’m a virgin,” I blurted out. “I don’t want to die one.”

I huffed and looked around, just catching security following the other three into the building. “Fuck me,” I grumbled. “Not out here.”

3.5 HEARTS--KA-YUTE!

Can't be avoided...

Don't even try.

Theodore is a 25 year old ginger MET tour guide & Magellanic penguin shifter who joins WaddleCon - a singles' penguin convention. The poor ginger sees the convention is geared to hetero couples once he arrives in San Diego. Things don't seem to be going his way until he meets a hunky fellow penguin shifter, Wesley. They strike up a conversation during a round of speed dating and Theo is adorably flustered. And for good reason, Wes is an underwear model and Theo is a virgin...

(A Magellanic penguin underwear model...you're welcome)

*gulps*

They meet up later that evening and Theo finds a trash baby! Well, more like a trash penguin egg. From there, his night gets even crazier. And through it all he finds his forever mate in Wes.

The story is short, shorter than I think it could've been. It had a strong start and decent enough finish. You can't escape the adorbz, if you tried. The dialogue was cute, the setup was cute...

It's told in Theo's 1st POV. We don't get a great sense of Wes since it's Theo's story and the short length. The main events, were entertaining but I feel like if this story was ever expanded it could be even better than what it is. Wes read more like an archetype of the unattainable (hot model), a nerd's wet dream. But he was kind of one note aka wanting in the drawers.

And no one is a bigger perv than me when I see a virgin character, but my gripe is this. If they've been saving it for however many years...don't you think it'd take a little time for the legs to open? Granted this is paranormal, penguin shifters mate for life...yadda yadda but it still read like is was more from Theo's side than Wes's

But I got the gist of the story. And there's a cute little fluffy ending that does what the title states. ;P

Check out the other unis' reviews for the inaugural #ShifterSundayFunday (We're gangbanging the hell out of this anthology!)

Ok, I admit I'm a lot disgruntled that this ended so abruptly albeit with a HEA, but still!!!!! Just when it was getting to the good part it ends, and where the F is my damn epilogue?

Regardless, this was seriously too cute with a nice dose of sexy. How can one resist a story about penguins no less, who meet at a singles convention looking for their one and only. Anyone? Throw in the fact that not only do Theodore and Wesley hit it off immediately, circumstance finds them saddled with an abandoned egg, further solidifying their bond!

Big points for the adorable and original factor! More please.

Penguin Love!!!!

 photo tumblr_niz3o75Xxu1s94lfqo4_500_zpsln8foohx.jpg

This was my first experience with this author and it will not be my last. As a matter of fact, I wouldn’t mind reading a follow up to this little nugget of shifter cuteness.

Theo and his salmon pants ensemble hooked me quickly. He’s a little bit awkward and he’s definitely disappointed to learn that his first WaddleCon is going to be a bust because it’s targeted toward the heterosexual penguins. What do you do when you find yourself across the country in an odd salmon pant/plaid ensemble where you thought you’d be meeting forever partner of your dreams only to have those dreams dashed by an overzealous hostess?

 photo drinking-pics-6-1_zpsssxerl0k.gif

Drunk speed dating turns out to be bountiful when he meets gorgeous underwear model Wesley O’Neill. They connect just like Theo’s mama said back when he was just a chick. She told him he would just know and as cute as that is it wasn’t even the best part!

They go on their first date and hilarity ensues after Theo discovers an abandoned egg in the trash. Wes is polished and suave as hell until he loses his glasses and Theo has to guide him around because he’s blind as a bat without them. All the shenanigans bring them closer together and they both become so invested in protecting this egg, so much so that they put up with crazed husbands, a band of cronies hellbent on dispatching them from WaddleCon and drugstore glasses.

The banter is cute. The bathtub scene is cute. The shenanigans are cute. The whole damn thing is adorkable. Absolutely adorkable and it put a smile on my face.

Soooooo ADORABLE!! Penguin Shifters travel to WaddleCon in San Diego to find their mate. Our boys meet and it’s instant sizzle. Throw in an egg discovered in a trash can, a jealous penguin, a cheating mate, and WaddleCon security, and you’ve got a hell of a short story!

Penguins in the bathtub! How cute is that?!!

This was such an adorable shifter story!!! My first penguin experience and definitely my favorite out of the Daily Dose. I'm a shifter girl and I can tell you the wolves, cats, and bears are generally my go to area. I didn't expect a penguin shifter, but it was fantastic! This was the perfect combination of plot and romance. The beginning didn't read like I started in the middle for such a short book, but it was just enough and left me wanting to more.

Theodore comes to San Diego for Waddle Con. A convention for all Magellanic penguins! Thinking it's a gay meeting convention he is shocked that it's for heterosexual people and on top of that the airlines have lost his luggage! He's having a horrible day and just when the margaritas can't come quicker he is pulled into speed dating. There he endures countless woman, some looking for hook -ups and one in particular is looking for husband and kids. LOL. I found Theodore reactions genuine and funny. It's hilarious until he meets Wes who is Bi, but looking for someone. They go on a date and everything is good until Theodore finds an egg and foolery ensures! It was funny plot wise, and then super hot when it came to Theodore and Wes. I loved Theodore's immediate attraction to the egg. This was a first for me by this author, and I really enjoyed it, I'm looking forward to reading her release out in August. I wish it was longer, and it's exactly how I like my shifter stories. Good job!

OMG, penguin shifters. PENGUIN. SHIFTERS. How adorable is that??? Super adorable, I tell you. Poe had me in stitches from the dialogue to the characterization...and that whole chase/escape scene is ridiculously Over-The-Top - but I DON'T CARE. ADORBZ!

Also, WaddleCon. I just can't with that it's so cute.

(I know these stories in the Daily Dose are supposed to be short, but I'd have given this 5 stars if it had been just a little bit longer...)

Want to have some weird sweet fun? Hold on to your hat, it is penguin shifters and a found egg.

Yeah. And a romp though San Diego.

It needs to be longer of course, but its a hoot or what ever noise it is that penguins make.

This may be one of the most adorable and funny things I have read this year.

I have been on one hell of a shifter kick for 2016 and I plan to work my way through as many different species of shifters as I possible can so this, this is about Magellanic Penguins and if you haven't seen what they look like... google that shit.

So, we meet Theodore (*ahem* a fellow ginger) as he is getting ready to fly from the Big Apple to San Diego to attend WaddleCon, a convention for penguins to find their forever mate when he realizes it's not a gay event but for all sexes. When he gets forced into speed dating, we get to meet the adorable, sexy AF and very near sighted Wesley... le sigh.

He wasn't just handsome. Wesley was gorgeous. I couldn't stop staring. Something about his face was comforting too. As if I'd always be able to pick it out from a sea of people.

Okay. I have a thing for penguins and I cannot even see a glimpse of a certain movie narrated by Morgan Freeman without getting emotional. Yes, I know those are Emperor Penguins but the fact that Penguins mate for life and that they can go away and when they come back, instantly find THEIR penguin in mere moments just kicks me in the gut so when Theodore has the above thought, I melted in a puddle of major goo and goo, is always good.

But anyway. Theodore meets Wesley via speed dating and they go out to dinner where Theodore finds the abandoned egg in the bathroom. Ugh. This starts off the chain of events that had me laughing out loud, getting teary and wanting to hug the hell out of my Nook. THIS WAS SO DAMN CUTE! I can't take it.

Man, I have so many highlights from this. The dialogue was witty and sweet and sexy. Wesley does have a dirty mouth on him and I could have read at least three times the number of pages we were given of these two.

Have I mentioned how much I liked this? NO? Hmm...

This is my first read from the author but I have already stalked her backlist. It takes some serious talent to pull of a short story and make me fall in love with the characters. I loved Wesley, I adored Theodore and when we get glimpses of them as penguins, I was lost in all the glory and beauty and yeah, totes cuteness that comes with their shifting.

Sigh.

Yup. This. Was. Good.

Too adorable for words is what came to mind when I tried to decide the best way to describe this story. I knew it was going to be good from the moment I saw “WaddleCon” appear in the blurb. That was all I needed to know to have cute penguins marching across my brain. And that is what this story is about - penguin shifters meeting at “the go-to event of the year when looking for your life partner”. On one hand you have Theodore who realizes, too late, that this is a con strictly for straight penguins, who hates all the speed dating, and who wants nothing more than the perfect date with his future husband. On the other hand you have a mysteriously abandoned egg and a livid husband out to do real damage to Theodore and Wesley, the cute bisexual man he has run into. Mix all of that together, and you have a romantic comedy of the best kind.

Theodore is looking for love, his future husband, and wants to start a family as soon as he has found his elusive forever mate. He thinks Wesley, whom he met thanks to a mistake, might be the one. But then events get out of control when the egg he found abandoned in the family bathroom turns out to belong to a cheater and Theodore is determined to keep it safe. He can’t imagine anyone wanting to harm an unhatched baby, and even though he is not a fighter, he will do anything to protect the little one – secretly beginning to bond with it already. What follows is both hilarious and heartwarming – and excellent practice for starting a family of their own.

If you like penguin shifters, if romantic comedy around two men with heart sounds interesting, and if you’re looking for a tale that will make you laugh, shake your head, and want to read more, then you will probably like this short story as much as I do. It’s one I will definitely read again – just for the fun of it!

This story is part of the Walk on the Wild Side Daily Dose books from Dreamspinner and boy is it cute! I fell in love with sweet awkward Theodore and his Salmon Pants!

Theodore is attending Waddle Con, a singles convention for penguin shifters, and he isn't starting out the way he wants, with lost luggage and a questionable outfit a sales clerk insisted he 'had to' have! Theodore thinks things might be looking up when he is accidentally paired with beautiful model Wesley on a speed date.

Wesley is attracted to Theodore and thinks his spark and fashion sense are cute, but can he keep up with the whirlwind that is Theodore, especially when Theodore finds an abandoned egg? Is Wesley ready for that? What about what it takes to keep the egg?

This is a wonderful little story that you will be just as delighted with as I was! Thank you C.S., for a daily dose I really enjoyed!

*** Copy provided to the reviewer in exchange for a fair and honest review. ***

Theodore attends a convention for single penguin shifters in search of their life partners. He doesn't have much hope, seeing as the Waddle Con doesn't cater to gay members, however, when fate (and speed dating) put handsome Wesley in his path and his interest seems to be reciprocated, of course, he embraces it with both hands.

This was such a cute read! Short and sweet with a touch of hotness. Theodore was absolutely adorable and Wesley was just perfect for him. I would've liked the book to be longer, but I was left satisfied at the end, which is not an easy feat considering the length of the story!

Definitely recommendable!!!

Never in a million years would I have thought I'd read a penguin shifter story. It sounds absurd to me. I'm so glad though that some FB friends encouraged me to read this. It was so darned cute. I loved every minute of this fated mate/penguin story. You guys......they meet at Waddlecon. And one swims around in the bathtub. And there's an abandoned egg.......

REVIEW @Scattered Thoughts and Rogue Words

Theodore is having a bad day. With no suitcase (lost somewhere between New York, where he lives, and San Diego, where he has just landed for the Waddle Con), a messy hair and an awful suit (brown jacket and salmon pants. Can you imagine him?) But his bad luck has no end. He had just discovered the Waddle Con is a convention for single people who wants to find their forever penguin partner. Yes, he is a Magellanic penguin shifter but there’re a little problem. He is really not so straight. Then forced to join a speed dating, after woman #6, he sits at a table where an unbelievable beautiful man with dimples, aka Wesley is. The attraction and something more deep soon sparkle between them. And just when their dinner date is finally going to turn the heat on, in the trash bin of the restaurant’s restroom, Theodore finds an abandoned egg.

Love, Marriage, And a Baby Carriage made my day. It is very short, nonetheless the author did an amazing work. In just 32 pages I got a complete story, sweet, funny and with no pauses. A crescendo of great scenes that wrap up with a super cute ending. It was just adorable, my first book by C.S. Poe and I can’t wait to read more by her. Plus it was the first time I read about penguin shifters, the little scene where Wes swims in the bathtub was too quick. I want more of this world, I want more of Wes, Theodore and their baby.

The cover art by Catt Ford was not made for this particular story, but for the whole “A Walk on the Wild Side” anthology. It’s intriguing and fully reflects the theme of the package. I love the use of the colors.

WaddleCon. Honestly, the story gets my love just for that. Add in the adorable Theodore, and I’m a fan. This is told from the first person point of view of Theodore, a Magell penguin shifter who is searching for his forever guy. Magells mate for life, have a family, stay together. Theodore wants that. So he gathers up his courage, gets a new wardrobe “power clashing” no less, and heads off to sunny San Diego to meet his man at WaddleCon, the singles convention. Except it turns out “My name’s Theodore Reinhard, I look like a rainbow puked on me, and I’m a gay penguin – Magell – attending a meet and greet for straight folks.” Yep, that’s where he’s at. A meet and greet for straights. Now what?
Being adorable Theodore, he has a couple drinks and decides to make the best of his trip. Until he is pulled into the speed dating. He has some icky encounters with the females and accidentally ends up with five minutes with the beautiful underwear model, Wesley. Bam! Wesley and Theodore hit it off and Wesley ends up saying Theodore from a female Magell who is already naming their hypothetical chicks. They end up going on their first date and who knows where this could lead?
Where it ends up leading is to a discarded egg, left by a cheating wife who’s husband not only catches her there but believes Wesley and Theodore are the ones who got her egged up. What?? So now the two are on the run to save the egg (granted, Theodore was on it right away, Wesley had to catch up. But give Wes a break, they broke his glasses and now he’s walking into things). They have that “…little trash baby” but what are they going to do with it?
This story is short , 56 pages on my tablet, and it is just the cutest thing ever. It’s a smile in book form and I loved the whole thing. Definitely going to seek out more by this author (and I’d love to have more of Wes and Theo…)

This story was absolutely adorable in pretty much every way imaginable. The author managed to make penguins totally work with the cuteness and the sexy. The setup was awkwardly adorkable and the meet-cute was funny and I got all caught up in reading about these two. What started out as a potential fling moved forward once the boys found the abandoned egg and the whole penguin family thing made the jump from temporary to permanent a thing I could get behind for these guys.

I snickered, I laughed, I snorted. A fun penguin shifter story with some super-serious insta-love that was just plain enjoyable.

My only complaint is I would have liked to have read a better resolution with the cuckolded husband.

Other than that niggling bit...it was cute, quick, and funny.

WaddleCon!!!!!!!

That word, plus penguin shifters, and I knew this was going to be super cute. I got all excited, and started as soon as it hit my kindle. It is short, so I think most people could finish this on a lunch break, or maybe while dinner is cooking. A very satisfying piece.

Wes and Theo are just adorable together. They have immediate chemistry, and Theo feels that pull in his gut that tells him he has found his mate.

It’s fast (only 37 pages) and, if ready for pure cray-cray and cuteness, then, it’s a fun read about two “Penguins” shifters meeting at a speed-dating, falling for each other and dealing with an abandoned Penguin egg found in a bathroom.
It’s so crazy and adorkable that it made me laugh : not bad for a shifter story I only picked up for a reading challenge.
