Lara Hargreaves has recently returned to work after her mother’s death and wants nothing more than to show her boss, who also happens to be her father, that time away hasn’t changed anything and she’s as dedicated as ever to her career. However, a drunken one night stand with the new paramedic leaves her with more than just memories.
Initially devastated to find out he was adopted as a baby, Kane O’Neill is looking forward to completing his year long contract in New Zealand before travelling to England to meet his birth family. Finding out Lara is pregnant changes everything…he will not leave his baby.
From their very first meeting, the attraction is undeniable, but can Lara and Kane work through their difficulties to form a most unlikely family?
The daughter of a military father, Catherine was born in Germany and lived most of the first 14 years of her life abroad. She spent her school years devouring everything her school library had to offer!
Her favourites were romance and mysteries. Her love for the Nancy Drew books led Catherine to check out every mystery story she could find. She soon found Agatha Christie who quickly became Catherine's favourite author.
Catherine writes cosy mysteries that take place in the English countryside. Her extremely popular Tommy & Evelyn Christie mysteries are set in 1920s North Yorkshire. Her new series, the Martha Miller cosy mysteries, are set in the years following the Second World War in Berkshire.
Catherine lives in northeast England with her two spoiled dogs who have no idea they are not human!
Book 2 of the seacrest siblings and when I first started the book, I wasn't sure which one would of been Penny's sibling. We see a blossoming, if somewhat force, relationship thing between Lara and Kane. With a baby in the way, Lara being a doctor at the hospital, Kane being a paramedic and her dad being the main person at the hospital, their thing they have is all up in the air. Great characters and story and I am enjoying reading about the siblings as they become known and getting in touch with Penny.
Picture a long-haired Thor (Chris Hemsworth) as a paramedic. Nice right? That is how I picture Kane in this story. He is a bit of a go-getter, loves adventure, surfing, bungee jumping, you get it. One night of pleasure with Lara, a doctor at the hospital he works from and a bit of steamy sex turns them into parents-t0-be, yes, Lara gets pregnant.
Lara is the daughter of the head of the hospital, she's already had time off to look after her mother as she was dying, and thinks that her father was angry at her for taking the time off when they could have put her mother in a hospice. Cold, right!? So, the thought of telling her father she is pregnant which in turn at some point will make her need more time off makes her feel as sick as her morning sickness. Well, maybe not quite that sick.
Kane turns out to be a godsend when Lara has more than your average amount of morning sickness, and the time he spends looking after her proves to her that he is much more than his gorgeous looks. The problem is that the more time they spend together the more they grow to feel more than lust for each other. BUT they both know that he can't commit to being more than just the baby's dad because he desperately needs to go to the UK to find family he didn't know he had. He wants to know who he is, what his roots are before he can offer anything in a relationship or to his baby. He has a lot to think about, but he knows he will never abandon the baby even if he does need to leave for a while. But how can he leave his baby, how can he leave Lara. The poor guy has a lot to mull over!
I really enjoyed this story. Kane was so lovely, every woman's dream and I loved how protective he became of Lara. She's still grieving for her mother and with her father being cold she really appreciates his care. She may be independent and hate that she needs help but when she finally gives in to accepting Kane's she is in heaven. Their budding relationship was beautiful to read and I couldn't figure out how they could have their happy ending. But they did, and I was left smiling for them.
There were some errors in this book, typos etc, the worst being when a sentence would say him instead of her, or visa versa which made the sentence not make sense for a second. I hope they will be picked up before this book is published this time around because other than that it was perfect. I am looking forward to reading the next in the series.
This is book two of the Seacrest Siblings series and the two main characters are Doctor Lara Hargreaves and paramedic Kane O’Neill. Lara has returned to work shortly after nursing her mother as she was dying from breast cancer and wonders if she maybe returned too soon, as a similar case ends up in the Emergency Department (ED) and she doesn’t cope with it as well as she hoped. Her father is in charge of the ED at Tasmin Memorial Hospital in New Zealand and has been grooming her to take over when he retires. Only he isn’t the warm or emotional type of father and left her to cope with nursing her mother all alone, always asking when she would be back at work!
Kane is a typical, carefree surfer type and some ten years younger than Lara. He is only working as a paramedic for the hospital on a six month contract, as he wants to travel to England to find his siblings. He found out as he was looking for his documentation to apply for university that he was adopted and his adopted parents had never told him. He has found out he has a number of other siblings and he feels he will never be complete until he finds out where he came from. He plans to save his money and then go to the UK at the end of his contract, whether he has heard anything from his real family by then or not, figuring it will be easier from the same country, instead of from so far away.
His carefree manner rubs Lara up the wrong way when she first sees him, but she can’t get him out of her mind after that, and he fancies her, but presumes she is out of his league. A drunken night out for them both after a really bad shift, ends up with them in bed together and making more than just memories. She kicks him out after realising she has succumbed to her desires, but finds out later that she is pregnant. Delaying telling Kane just causes more problems between them and decisions have to be made. He wants to be the baby’s father and will do everything he can to look after her and the baby as she continues to be sick, but neither of them are very good at telling each other how they really feel and what they want for the future of any sort of relationship between them and also with the baby!
Great advice from those closest to them, but never the ones they would expect to have such insightful advice, help them to communicate a bit better, before old problems can raise their heads and throw a spanner in the works. Kane has to weigh up his desire to find his family, with the new addition to his own family that he has created with Lara and decide where his priorities lie. Lara needs to realise she cannot be the son her father seemed to want to take over from him, and to start to decide what she wants from her own life and to start following that path. Whether this will lead to Lara and Kane being a family when the baby comes along, is for you to discover.
A lovely telling of two people in high pressure jobs and seemingly complete opposites in lifestyle and attitude, working through their differences and having to work out what is the most important part of their lives after they make a baby together! Nicely told and the added twist of Kane’s adoption and search for his siblings made for a great follow up story to follow and find out more. I presume his adoption is part of the Seacrest siblings from the title, having not managed to pick up book one as yet, but I look forward to reading that and the next one as well. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.
Emergency: Two Blue Lines! is the second book in the Seacrest Siblings series of Catherine Coles and it's such a delightful read. This book focusses on family and being vulnerable, along with dealing with unexpected events. Lara Hargreaves is a doctor at the Tasman Memorial Hospital. She commands respect and is a thorough professional. She guards her heart, and most of her actions are guided by making her father proud who's the head of the emergency department. Cut to Kane, who is a young and care-free paramedic working at the hospital on a contract. A hit with the ladies with those killer dimples, he somehow manages to get under Lara's skin. Right from the first page, their chemistry is undeniable, and sparks fly. A tough night at the ER coupled with drinks results in a one-night stand and Lara is pregnant.
I appreciated this dynamic of having an older female character who is well-established in her career. This life-changing event results in the characters confronting their past that's woven with grief, identity and pain. The characters are well-developed, and their growth is remarkable. Lara and Kane's dedication and love for each other is so endearing, and they bring out the best in each other. The ending made me smile, and it was uplifting. A 4.5 star read for me! I can't wait to read more of this series.
A thank you to Catherine Coles for giving me an ARC of this book. This honest review is left voluntarily.
Unexpected pregnancy romances are my favorite genre of romance novels, if they’re a genre, I suppose. I loved the fact that this story explores the dynamics between an older woman who is more established in a more prestigious career with that of a man ten years younger who was planning on passing through town to reconnect with his birth family. Set in New Zealand, this doctor and paramedic have to figure out if they can raise a child together. Can Kane be a father when he doesn’t know anything about his birth family—and feels incomplete? I love the premise of the novel, however, I didn’t find their chemistry as compelling as I would have thought it would be for a story like this, but that doesn’t mean other readers won’t read it differently. I would have picked up this novel automatically, regardless of the chance to review an advanced copy because I love a good unexpected pregnancy with a HEA, so you should too, if you like these stories!

Overall: Good and recommended short read Type: younger M/ older F, surprise baby Series: standalone Story: Read the blurb – no spoilers here. Humor: not much Drama: a little but nothing major Angst: not really Heroine/Hero: Paramedic meets Doctor Personal notes: This is the first book I’ve read from this author. Characters are decently developed but I felt there could have been a little more tension, anxiety, angst, something between them. Frankly, if you’re having a kid from a one night stand, I can’t imagine either party wouldn’t be completely freaked out at first…my second child was a surprise to me and my husband and I spent the first trimester in denial so I have a little difficulty with the ‘okay, it’s fine’ aspect of the story here. I also would have liked an epilogue with baby and the life status of the couple and the events in the book to wrap everything up nicely.
This book was a short read, but it was well written. This is the first book I have read by Catherine Coles, and it will not be the last.
Lara returns to work for the first time, and she tries to prove to her boss who happens to be her father that she is dedicated to her job. However, not too long after, she discovers that she didn't just have memories of her one night stand. She has two blue lines. Kane found out he was adopted and wants to travel to see his birth family. When he finds out that Lara is pregnant, he doesn't want to leave his baby behind. Can they turn their one night stand into something more real and meaningful, or is better to leave it as a one night stand?

I liked this story. Lara was having a very bad day in the Emergency Department. A new Paramedic was attracted to her and kept asking her out. She kept turning him down until one night she just needed the contact. He had just found out he was adopted and wanted to meet his birth family.. When she turned up pregnant, his plans had to change and he wanted them to. Both of them learned more about each other and found what was important to them. Lara found out her dad really did love her - he just didn't know how to show her. Lots of emotional issues here and well worth the read.

This is book 2 in this series about siblings that got separated when their parents could no longer care for them. Some were put in foster care and others were adopted out. But they all have this undeniable pull to reconnect with each other again. Their journey is not an easy one, they each have their hurdles to overcome but along the way they find a partner/soul mate that helps them to heal and to face the future with optimism.
Really enjoyed reading the struggle these two had but how their budding relationship grew into a love that they could not live without.
A must read series of siblings in search of their family.
This book is all about the need to communicate and the need to express one's feelings. I think it is safe to say those two blue lines opened up so many doors that had been closed. It also opened up the hearts of Lara and Kane, and even Lara's father who was in charge of the emergency department at Tasman Memorial Hospital. This book also showed how hard it is for anyone to lose a parent, especially to breast cancer. Amazing that that little bundle of joy will also help to heal some hearts. I am so glad Lara and Kane's one night became so much more than her becoming pregnant. I received an advance copy of this book and I willingly chose to write an honest review.
Lara slept with Kane when she was drunk and sad about her mom and then kicked him out. She didn’t even want to tell him that she became pregnant. Yes, he is younger and has a wayward fun spirit, but would she have wanted to be treated that way by a man? There were a lot of communication issues between them in this book. Despite Kane’s age he steps it up, taking extra care of Lara while she’s battling all day morning sickness. I thought it was cute that he Googled what to feed her to help with and cooked it. Her selfish cheating ex-fiance wouldn’t have done that. Kane battles with wanting to know more about his birth siblings and being their for Lara and their child.
I have some mitigated feelings about this book. the story is sweet and entertaining, I have never read a story where the dynamics are this different age-wise and with the characters. I was annoyed by the authoritarian personality of Lara's father but her father loved and just did not know how to show it. Kane is definitely persistent and I love the fact that he did not want to be pushed out of his child's life as he himself recently discovered that he was adopted and was searching for his family. Two different worlds come together and make one that is appropriate for them.

I enjoyed this book it was an easy read to sit back and relax with. Lara is a doctor and Kane a paramedic, thiers is a romance which neither were really looking for, but both felt drawn into. Pure lust and getting drunk drives Lara to seek Kane out one night after a hard day in the ER. There is good chemistry between Lara and Kane, but both have a past which colours thier thoughts on what they saw themselves going to and you could feel the conflict they were having with thier feelings for each other and what they had thought was thier future.
This book was so fun to read, and I loved the main characters! Lara tried so hard to keep up a cool and professional manner, and Kane was determined to break through her defenses. I loved how they both handled the unexpected pregnancy, and how Kane was so sweet and protective with her. The side story of Kane searching for his siblings really pulled on the heartstrings too, as well as Lara and her Dad’s relationship transformation. The conclusion was satisfying and left me with a smile on my face. I will be looking for more books from Ms. Coles in the future.
A fun and enjoyable story line that holds your attention from start to finish. An easy read where you can just sit back and enjoy and not think. Wonderful characters that are well developed, relatable and easy to like. The story flows smoothly from page to page and holds the reader's attention throughout the entire book.

Lara and Kane’s story was such a sweet romance to read. There were hints of pasts for each of them that were tragic, but the way the story developed had them facing their pasts to come together for their future. Beautiful story!

Both main characters are on a journey to find themselves in one way or another after having a devastating experience. They meet and spend a night together. This leads to an unexpected pregnancy where they have to figure out what they choose to do next. A good read that I worth a try.

The second book in the serie was as good as the first. Kane as a person and his involvement with Lara was enjoyable. I loved their bickering and their care for each other. I would have wanted a little more interaction with the siblings. I voluntarily reviewed an ARCof this book.
Story of Lara Hargreaves and Kane O’Neill. Amazing book. Really liked it. This is my first book by this author. Strong characters and chemistry between them. I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
good book with interesting characters. Just a little drawn out. I liked that she was doctor and he a paramedic. I even liked that he was adopted and looking for his family. I would have liked it if he would have actually met his family in the book. And would have liked it if the baby had been born, and that we knew what it was.

Catherine Coles was nice enough to provide me with the first chapter as part of her ARC program, and I can't help but wonder, "Where is the rest?!" I understand that you want the first chapter to end in a cliff hanger, but why?! I don't want to spoil anything, but I want more! Excellent start, Catherine!
