Wanted... Man who uses his mind instead of his hands - someone who can "wow" me in conversation. Someone who knows that a dinner date consists of more than a six-pack of beer and a bag of chips.
Pepper Bartlett has always been a woman who knows exactly what she wants - except when it comes to men. With classic girl-next-door good looks, she's never had any trouble finding a man, but finding the right one is another story. Somehow, she always ends up with the guy who either cheats or runs in the other direction at the thought of commitment. Determined to change that pattern and find a man who will turn her inside out and make her crazy with desire - but not drive her crazy, she places a personal ad with just one No Blue Collar Guys need apply.
Jake Hunter is the answer to Pepper's dreams. He's smart, sensitive, hotter than a man has a right to be...and he's an architect. Perfect for Pepper. But when she decides it's time they get "close," Jake is the one who wants to wait. What is he hiding? she wonders. And when she finds out what it is, will she swear off all men forever?
Alexa grew up in the beautiful Pacific Northwest, where she spent considerable time crushing on the cute boy next door. But in time, Alexa’s interests became more practical, and she eventually discovered another passion—writing contemporary romance.
When not in writing mode, Alexa spends much of her leisure time either hiking in the Alpine Wilderness or playing doorman to a couple of unruly Labrador retrievers. She believes every romance writer should keep an emergency care kit that contains an abundance of dark chocolate, plenty of red wine, and a large selection of Barry White music.
Though not typically a funny person, Alexa occasionally finds herself to be amusing.
This story had great potential. The secondary character seemed useless especially Lucy. The subplot with Brad could have been so much more but was just weird. The fight in a pet cemetery seemed very Stephen King and didn't fit with the rest of the story. And the part with Brad's roommate fell short. I also would have liked to understand more why Jake quit medicine. It was only inferred.
This was a fun story about looking for love and following your heart, it could have been more developed, but flowed nicely, kept you reading from start to finish and overall very enjoyable.
