So, I am a big scifi & paranormal book lover. I truly did love this book and Raynor, I absolutely adored....he is totally going in my BBC (book boyfriend collection) and I am calling dibs right now. His mate Lark (I say wish disdain and loathing), I absolutely loathed. I felt to sorry that he was stuck with such a self centered bit$& of a mate. Very rarely does a character piss me off....but she wow unbelievable....and that is not a compliment. Worst mate ever...literally.
So, Lark and her sisters run a "harem" aka a brothel on their planet. Prisoners from other planets can either go to prison or do their time at the brothel, where they will be enhanced for customer satisfaction.
Lark's 1st offense: Raynor goes there to get his mate, so why he is in a cell he can smell that his mate is with someone else, how is that for a slap in the face. She is with her lover Ana, now there is never any "penetration" with the lovers and since Lark did not know he was her mate......so I was able to mostly forgive this.
Lark's 2nd offense: But then her empire so to speak is under attack, when Raynor is trying to save her once again, she ends up picking Ana over him and shoots him, not once but 3 freaking times....wtaf. So, she does that and Ana turns out to be very untrustworthy. So, he forgives her dumb a$$ again....because she is his mate and they only have 1 true mate....so he is stuck with her....my poor Raynor.
Lark's 3rd offense: So after my sweet warrior Raynor saves her worthless selfish a$$ again and all of her people, she proceeds to tell her friend that she doesn't want him to claim her because he is a monster, he hears her and is heartbroken. She continually throughout the book puts him down, when he literally a great person and way, way to good for her, it's like kicking a puppy, it should not be done and I like puppies. After this time, he agrees to stay with her for her people, but nothing between them....good for him taking up for himself, because nobody should ever have to put up with that type of mental abuse.
She ends up really regretting being a bit$% and finally, finally comes to her senses towards the last maybe 12% of the book. Both of these 2 are virgins, so I also loved that. Raynor is a vampire and on his planet they save themselves for their true love.....seriously dibs. Seriously, if I didn't adore Raynor so much and absolutely love the book itself I may have given this less stars because of how awful Lark was. But this really was a great book and Siren Allen really is an author I enjoy, my first book by this author but already read another one....so I am an official fan and who else besides a really good author could write characters that make you that mad. I look forward to reading her 2 sisters books, surely they can't all be mean.
