For decades, unsuspecting users of spirit boards have been pestered and attacked by a malevolent entity that calls itself Zozo, the “king of kings.” Evenings of entertainment have ended in anxiety and fear, with lingering problems ranging from hauntings to dream invasion to psychological terror. Darren Evans is a paranormal survivor who learned about Zozo the hard way—and took his story to the world. People around the planet responded with similar stories, and some that were even more shocking. In this ground-breaking book, Darren Evans and paranormal expert Rosemary Ellen Guiley probe the mystery of Zozo, from ancient gods to modern aliens, demons, and more. Who is Zozo, and what does Zozo want? The answers will surprise you!
Fairly readable though there are a few typos. This is Guiley's own publishing company, so this is essentially a self-published book. What is seriously wrong with this book is that it's chock-full of stories that do not sound convincing, and are not carefully documented. We can't see that these events actually happened. We are simply asked to believe them at face value. That's not a safe bet for any paranormal claims. The book is very flimsy evidence that a demon is making people's lives miserable. There are many and various alternative explanations, some of which are plainly apparent in the book. That is, people fall into the drama and succumb to their fear of demons so that they have convinced themselves that everything bad that happens, or bad behavior they indulge in, is caused by this evil force. I found this in no way to be convincing, though it is sad that people have such terrible trouble in their life. To blame it on a demon or Ouija board activity is a mistake and makes the problem worse.
But to state that this book is "ground-breaking", "shocking", and that ZoZo is a demon that harasses people is great exaggeration. To be fair, the authors do propose some disclaimers at points to suggest that it may not be as they say. So, I didn't hate this book. But it should be read with a very critical eye.
I received my copy today and can't put it down. Darren not only shares his experiences but those of others who have encountered ZOZO. The book gives you first hand accounts, origins of ZOZO and all of the research Darren and Rosemary have collected in a condensed form. The book sticks to its subject and doesn't venture off course like many of its contemporaries. Bravo Darren and thank you for sharing your experiences.
𝐀 𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐞𝐯𝐢𝐥 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐢𝐜 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐢𝐭𝐲 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐢𝐬 𝐚𝐬𝐬𝐨𝐜𝐢𝐚𝐭𝐞𝐝 𝐰𝐢𝐭𝐡 𝐨𝐮𝐢𝐣𝐚 𝐛𝐨𝐚𝐫𝐝𝐬 This book is about a ancient demonic evil entity that is known as Zozo & it is associated with Ouija boards, spirit or witch boards. In my opinion most people are not aware of Zozo just because Darren Evans has encountered the ancient demonic entity after finding a double-sided Ouija board & using it, or creating a blog & website about the ancient demonic entity. Many people have encountered Zozo. Zozo is in the 𝐃𝐢𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐢𝐫𝐞 𝐈𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐥 which was written & published by 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐪𝐮𝐞𝐬 𝐀𝐥𝐛𝐢𝐧 𝐒𝐢𝐦𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐨𝐥𝐢𝐧 𝐃𝐞 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐲 in 1818. The most famous edition is the (1863 edition) with illustrations by 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐢𝐬 𝐋𝐞 𝐁𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐨𝐧 depicting the appearances of several demons Since the demonic entity is a infernal being it is a demonic entity. It's interesting that Zozo isn't mentioned in Grimoires, well-known lists of demons, magical handbooks or the Lemegeton. Demon is derived from the original Greek terms Daimon/Daemon. A lot of people are a believer, interested, curious about witchcraft, the paranormal, the occult, communication with spirits, interacting with the astral & spiritual realms this doesn't make someone a dabbler just because they are a believer & want proof
From the first chapter I know that Darren Evans is being influenced by the demon Zozo, which is exhibited in their behaviour, he felt drawn to the Ouija board, he was already becoming obsessed with using the double-sided Ouija board which is known as spiritual entrapment. Darren, his girlfriend Jamie or Darren's friend Randy didn't talk to the spirit known as Leonard, or the previous singer of the band AC/DC Bon Scott it as the demonic entity Zozo was pretending to be them to lure them into a false sense of security so they would trust them, whenever they used the Ouija board. The infinity symbol that manifests during a ouija board session it's a sign of communication with a demon. Demons, devils, entities or evil spirit can and will appear as someone/something that is familiar to you for the purpose of luring you into a false sense of security and make you think you can trust what it has said via a ouija board, but they lie, deceive people that are innocent, naive and too trusting, they are manipulative. It was also attempting to escape the Ouija board, then physically manifested itself, when Darren and his girlfriend heard the knocking a the door, but there was nothing visibly there. Demons with knock on a door, scratch a door because you have to invite them in, otherwise they have no power, control, influence over you. They lure you & influence you to let them in. Demons have to be invited in, which can be by various methods, via Ouija board, if you have experienced a lot of pain, trauma, abuse in your life this automatically gives demons, devils, evil spirits entry into your life, due to being sensitive emotionally, it can make you sensitive spiritually or psychically. You are more likely to be vulnerable or sensitive to the energy, presence, or influence of demonic energy, if you have experienced a lot of pain, trauma, various types of abuse including self-destruction, self-mutilation demons know more than you think, they have vast knowledge, they know your secret desires, what you suppress/repress within yourself, what you hide, pain that you feel, they have psychic abilities, they can see into your soul, they know your intentions, you can't hide anything from them, you should never deceive, mock, ridicule or disrespect a demon as well. They know if you are interested, obsessed with the occult, the paranormal, witchcraft. Over time he would become more and more obsessed with using the Ouija board, the demon Zozo would influence them, affect their aura. energy and make them spiritually weaker so they would be more susceptible & vulnerable to possession. More people should be made aware of this. Most people would be naturally, creeped out, scared, curious, intrigued, or feel drawn to finding or using a double-sided Ouija board in their house, attic, basement, or crawlspace. However due to finding the double-sided Ouija board next to jars with preserved blackbirds in them, or just their eyes, which is a offering to Zozo, the intention or purpose of the offerings, or the use of the double-sided Ouija board is questionable, it maybe for a harmful purpose, witchcraft is definitely involved. The double-sided Ouija board has melted candle wax on it, so it has been used frequently for rituals, communication with spirits, entities, possibly demons or other beings. In my opinion, the mindset, perception, attitude, intentions and the mentality people have when they use a Ouija board will have a positive, negative or neutral affect on their paranormal experience during the Ouija board sessions and days, weeks, years after using the Ouija board. A lot of people that have encountered the ancient demonic entity Zozo were disrespectful to the entity, they were disrespectful about the paranormal, the spiritual/astral realms & they mocked the entity. They mocked & disrespected devils, demons, spirits, & other beings, they didn't believe in their existence & they were possibly under the influence of drugs, alcohol which makes you spiritually weak & vulnerable to a demonic attachment or possession. People can be naive, innocent when the paranormal or witchcraft is involved, but people are also disrespectful, mock the spiritual realm, underestimate how powerful they are or what they are capable of, but being disrespectful and mocking the spiritual realm is asking for trouble. I am not going to judge anyone for being naturally curious, for feeling drawn, intrigued about the paranormal, witchcraft, the occult & wanting proof, to prove to yourself that it is real, this includes myself. I don't however agree with people dabbling with the unknown, the occult, witchcraft, Ouija boards without knowing what you are doing or how to protect yourself, how to protect your energy, or banish anything that was summoned intentionally or accidently. Do some research first or ask someone experienced to help you, to avoid any unwanted side effects or unwanted outcome as a result or consequence for dabbling. I don't agree with or understand why the author asked the demonic entity to control his girlfriend's dog, it was very unnecessary and cruel to the poor innocent dog. Why didn't you care about the consequences of your actions at the time? How can you be so heartless & cruel to a innocent animal? This should be a rule for using a Ouija board to never ask whatever you communicated with to prove it's existence, power or presence, and to never ask any type of spirit, entity, devil, demon or other types of being to control, possess a person or animal. Doubting the existence of various types of spirits, entities, demons, being, not believing in their existence, mocking them, disrespecting them, or not believing in the spiritual realm and being dismissive about their presence, power, influence, control over people or animals is dangerous. Why do they need to prove their existence to you, when your a non-believer, and doubt their existence, underestimate their power, or what they are capable of but you still expect them to manifest themselves and prove they are real. They are real, they can harm you irrevocably, they can physically, sexually, mentally, emotionally and psychologically harm, hurt, damage people or possess, torment and kill people if that's their intion. You intentions, attitude, mentality, mindset, respect or lack of it will determine if you have a positive, negative or neutral experience when using a Ouija board or a similar device divination, spiritual communication device/tool. I think a lot of people can learn a lot from Darren Evans experiences with Ouija board, paranormal activity he has experienced as well. Using any type of divination tools can be dangerous, potentially cause spiritual risk/harm. All divination tools such as a scrying mirror, Ouija boards should be used with caution, or at least do research about how to safely use them for divination to avoid any unwanted side effects, anything that can attach itself to you, and harm you mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually, psychically or psychologically. People in general should be aware of what 𝐍𝐎𝐓 to ask about if/when they use a Ouija board, spirit board, witc board & what spiritual entrapment is, or when a evil spirit, entity, devil, demon has manifested itself & invaded your life, your aura/energy and is attached to you, controlling, oppressing, influencing or possessing you. Darren Evans always has been obsessed with occult, witchcraft the paranormal, probably due to wanting proof that it is real which is understandable, but pushing past boundaries, going out of your way to put yourself, and people you love and care about including animals at spiritual risk, is dangerous and it's stupid. The author only has himself to blame for that, two of hs friends/loved ones have died, a animal died as well. It's not a good sign that Darren was already obsessed, felt drawn to the double-sided Ouija board before he ever used it, he still seems obsessed with the demonic entity, and now it is attached to him, so he is haunted not any houses he lived in. The entity is attached t the Ouija board that was used and to Darren, hence why he is obsessed with it and finds it hard to stop using Ouija boards, it's spiritual entrapment, which leads to possession. Demons have to be invited in, which can happen via various methods, so anyone is vulnerable to the energy, presence, influence of spirits, evil spirits, devil's, demons, entities etc.. Using a Ouija board, a mirror for spellwork, scrying/divination, automatic writing, or channeling energy while meditating and astral projection make people vulnerable to demons. They can/will pretend to be something you are familiar with, something/someone that you would trust, to lure you into a false sense of security, so the entity can entice you, deceive, lovebomb, manipulate you. Any type of spirit, entity, being can/will lie to you when you use a Ouija board and even if you have good intentions, you still don't have control over who or what you communicate with various methods of communication with spirits, with the dead. It can be spiritually dangerous, harmful in various ways so people need to be careful. It's really stupid that some people think it's cool to contact a demon when they use a Ouija board, but they mock, disrespect, doubt it's existence, presence, power and what it is capable of and learn the hard way that demons, devil's are real & they can harm you in various ways. People should treat the spiritual & astral realms with respect, even if they don't believe it is real, or they don't believe that many types of spirits, entities, devil's, demons, beings are real. They are real, but just because some people are unable to perceive their presence, or to hear, feel, sense their energy, presence it doesn't mean that they aren't real or that they aren't there. After reading several encounters people have had with Zozo, people have psychic abilities which makes them vulnerable because they are sensitive to energy and they don't know how to protect their aura/energy and banish unwanted entities such as Zozo. Tell-tale signs of a demonic entity are the feeling of being watched, a strong presence, heavy, oppressive energy, feeling something you can't see staring at you or feeling extremely warm when it is near you/touching you, the sudden and unexpected inexplicable feeling of extreme dread, fear, anxiety, depression, extreme anger/rage for no apparent reason. A lot of people are unaware of the various ways that demonic entities can/will influence people that are vulnerable, sensitive to their, aura/energy, presence and the influence of their energy, power, control. Zozo or demons/devil's in general manifest themselves, oppress people with their demonic energy, give them nightmares, influence them in various ways (in terms of making depression/anxiety or suicidal thoughts worse, influencing how they think about themselves or how other people perceive them), control them (one or more people might feel like they are in a trance and not in control of their own body) and possess people (it can be partial possession of full possession) but all of this is gradual, and gets progressively worse over time. Demons/devil's, demonic entities are interdimensional beings, so they can travel from various realms in the astral realm, they can use a mirror as a portal, possess inanimate objects, cause sleep paralysis to drain your energy or sexually assault people in their sleep (Incubus & Succubus sex demons) They have psychic abilities, they can read your mind, communicate with people telepathically and show them visions, they can see into your soul, they always know your intentions. Demons can sometimes be protective of people & they are always very sexual & lustful towards humanity, most of the time it's towards specific people. I understand that the Ideomotor scientific theory is a way for sceptical scientists to explain or "debunk" the use of a Ouija board, but it doesn't fully, or conclusively explain the paranormal. It doesn't fully explain the paranormal activity that people experience before, during or after using a Ouija board either alone or with other people which can have a lingering, long lasting effect on people, it can have unwanted negative consequences. It doesn't explain the planchette moving by itself, moving off the edge of a Ouija board, or in my own experience I physically felt a hand superimposed in my own hand & the glass I used as a planchette for the homemade Ouija board moved very slowly, in a circular motion. My hand felt very cold, it seemed like it took a lot of effort to move the glass and I felt cold energy around me while I used the Ouija board by myself. I sat in a circle of salt, I said the Lord's prayer for protection before and after using the Ouija board, it was a creepy experience. It also doesn't explain words that are spelt backwards, in either a dead language, or ancient language, phrases or the names of places, beings, entities, spirits from mythology, folklore that come through on the Ouija board. The paranormal activity, the energy, presence, of whoever/whatever you communicated with, change in the atmosphere, the vibe of the room, suddenly feeling inexplicable dread, fear, anxiety, anger/rage, unexplained laughter, disembodied voices, threats of violence, sexual assault, predictions of death, the strange behaviour, possession and murder of a dog or people/animals in general. Just because sceptics can debunk one aspect of the paranormal, specifically using Ouija boards, dowsing rods, automatic writing (which hasn't really ever bee studied much but it does work from my own personal experience) it doesn't debunk, or fully explain everything that is paranormal, it doesn't explain the spiritual or astral realms either. I'm not a narrow-minded, sceptical person though, I'm a believer, I know from what I've personally experienced that the spiritual, astral realms are real, Ouija boards, automatic writing does work. Various types of spirits, entities, beings, elementals, mythological, folkloric, or cryptids are real. There are various reasons why a Ouija board works, your own energy, your psychic energy, is being used your opening yourself up to the spiritual realm, inviting in all manner of spirits, beings, entities, devil's, demons when you use a Ouija board, do automatic writing, scrying via many methods. You attract whoever/whatever you communicate with with your energy, so whatever you state of mind is, your mindset, whatever you are thinking about, whatever your intentions, whatever attitude, opinion, perception you have of the paranormal, or Ouija boards are is very important. For example it is not a good idea to use a Ouija board when you are grieving, depressed, anxious, angry, suicidal or self-destructive, when you are drunk, high, or if your a disrespectful, narrow-minded, non-believer & a sceptic because you will piss off any spirit, entity, evil spirit, devil, demon that you communicate with. Treat spirits, entities, devil's, demons with respect, even if your non-believer (depending on the circumstances, because sometimes it can make it worse to show respect to demons, your then aligned with their energy, intentions which could have unwanted consequences) If you use a Ouija board alone or with your friends, with a coven your individual or collective combined energy & psychic energy is being used, whatever you communicate with knows your intentions, it will manifest itself accordingly that's related to your desires/intentions. Never use a Ouija board when you are drained of energy, in a low mood, if you feel tired while using the Ouija board or become really obsessed with using a Ouija board then 𝐒𝐓𝐎𝐏 using it, your energy is being drained, your being influenced to use the Ouija board more often which is known as spiritual entrapment. Whatever you communicated with is trying to weaken you in various ways so you will be more susceptible to the influence of it's energy, presence, power, control over time so you will become possessed. Whatever you communicated with is enticing, you, lying to you, it maybe pretending to be or disguising itself as your dead relative, as something that is familiar to you like a angel, a Deity but it is trying to deceive you so be careful, there are trickster spirits, shapeshifting entities, low-vibrational beings such as devil's, demons, evil spirits can seek to be invited in, don't give your consent, permission for that to happen. I believe that people that have a particular type of energy, psychic abilities whether they are aware of them or not/trust their intuition/trust in their psychic abilities, the subconscious part of your mind & psyche is accessed when you use a Ouija board or any other device/tool for communication with spirits. You attract whatever/whoever you communicate with your energy, intentions, desires, your energy, psychic energy/psychic abilities are used to create a connection with the spiritual realm. If you're psychic, you are a conduit, a intermediary that channels energy, you're a vessel for spirits, entities, beings for them to be able to communicate with the living in a way we can perceive, understand. Some of the chapters in the book are printed in the wrong order. Spiritual entrapment is not mentioned/explained even though it is directly associated with a Ouija Board being used.
How one feels about this book will most likely be determined by their personal belief system and inherent biases. The authors contend that an entity (or collective of entities) going by the name of "Zozo" (in addition to other "Z" names, plus Mama and Lily, to name just two others) are coming through to taunt users of Ouija Boards around the world with ever-increasing frequency.
The authors make a case for Zozo et al having been around for far longer than most paranormal researchers believe. Although personal experiences with the Z-entities were documented by author Darren Evans on his website, it wasn't until he appeared on an episode of "Ghost Adventures" gained the same level of popularity as, say, Slenderman.
With Zozo now firmly entrenched in the public consciousness, reports of him/her/it breaking through to take over Ouija Board sessions became more common, as did the negative side-effects; Evans and Guiley claim that encounters with the Z-entities are often accompanied by terrible nightmares, runs of ill-health and very bad luck, physical violence, and even sexual assault. By all accounts, this is not a being that one would wish to come into contact with.
The first half of the book detail Evans' personal experiences with Zozo, beginning with his discovery of a mysterious old Ouija Board beneath his house. The second discusses the nature of Zozo and co in greater detail, offering a number of theories regarding the nature of its existence, and picking out some potential Zozo sightings throughout history. Some are convincing and bear further investigations, whereas others (e.g. The UFO connection) seem a little far-fetched.
If you aren't a believer in discarnate entities, then this book won't convert you, though it might be read and enjoyed as a series of creepy stories. If you are, on the other hand, then it may just make you operate with more caution around Ouija Boards and spirit boxes...because if the authors are right, then playing with Zozo means that you could quite easily be playing with fire...
I got about half way through before finally giving up. I got to the second part of the book, that was supposed to be the research part, and it was still chock full of personal stories. I will be honest, I am not someone who likes reading a lot of personal stories. I more look for the research and facts. Some people will definitely like this if they like all the personal stories, me? Not so much. I wish the description of the book had mentioned the enormous amounts of personal stories, because then I wouldn't have bothered. The description sounded like it would go into Darren's personal story, and then they would get to the research. I got to over 53%, which is definitely into Part 2 of the book, or the research part, and there's still more personal stories than any sort of facts or information.
I will admit, I am not a fan of Rosemary Ellen Guiley. I have found that not all of her books are deeply researched. I never got to the fact portion of the book so I have no clue if it was the same in this book, but I distinctly remember being very disappointed with her book on vampires. I was going to give her another try, but I just can't continue slogging through this book.
This is a typical paranormal book. It would have been a stronger if the first part of the book, in which Evans discusses his experiences with Zozo, had been told chronologically. I thought the jumping around from time period to time period, discussing events involving one wife, and then leaping ahead to discuss the actions of another wife, and then going back to stories involving the first wife, to be confusing. I did find the second part of the book, which covered the historical "appearances" of Zozo, and the etymology of the name to be much stronger.
Learning interesting new facts about spirit boards and details about proper usage and how to handle negative entities as well as positive ones was fascinating to read. So much is not yet understood about the paranormal.
