Her past left her wounded, but he has the power to heal--
Nina Anderson is lucky to be alive. After years of abuse at the hands of her boyfriend, she’s finally free. Determined to get back on her feet, she’s left her past behind for a fresh start on her grandparents’ farm in Despair, Kansas. Even though, Jeremy, the man who’d abused her is in prison fifteen-hundred miles away, Nina is still haunted by dark memories.
Then a mysterious, unearthly man appears bringing her the respect she’s always wanted—and maybe even a chance at love. He’s been sent to serve as Nina’s protector and to help her with an event that is to occur in the near future. The catch is, Liam doesn’t know what it is or when it will take place. Will he have the power to save her and restore Nina’s faith in God?
This story has some interesting twists and turns. Paranormal fiction is not my typical genre but I started reading and found it to be entertaining. It has an unusual mix of paranormal and spiritual action. Nina is living with her grandparents to hide from an ex-boyfriend who tried to murder her when she attempted to leave him. The grandparents are people with a strong faith in God and are trying to help Nina heal. She is suddenly thrown into a situation and encounters Liam who is an immortal being sent to help her. He has his limitations just like mortal people even though he possesses certain super-powers. She learns that she still must rely on God even with Liam around. For my personal tastes, it was a nice diversion from the books I typically read. Those who are really into paranormal things will really enjoy this book as it is a good clean read. I recommend it. I received a complimentary copy of this book from the publisher in exchange for my honest review.
What I love most about this story is how it quickly lets you realize the "meat" of the story. Never a boring moment. I love being able to see the characters in my minds eye....Kelsey has a very good way of painting the characters with her words. It had humor intertwined in the heartbreak and that is an amazing ability.
I cannot wait to read Book 2! As a Twihard fan (I really miss those people!) I am anxious to see where this paranormal love story goes. LOVED this story!!!
It’s four in the morning as a type this. That should give a pretty good idea of how much I liked this book. Read it all in one sitting (or, rather, under the covers while I should have been sleeping). Lovable (and hatable) characters, suspense, action, and of course romance. My “20 minutes before bed” reading turned into four hours and I regret nothing.

I liked this book more than I thought I would. I don’t know whether to advise it as Christian or fantasy or a cross between both BUT for me it worked.
Mfc running from an abusive partner finds that she is gifted with a martyr in the form she would find most appealing. Audio was fab fitting the book well.
Ending isn’t a cliffhanger but it does lead onto book 2 (also provides a sneak peak of it to entice you to buy)
3.5 stars Gifted audio in exchange for an honest review
Excellent writing. Well edited. Highly entertaining and dramatic plot line. Definitely not a fluff read.
I am not usually drawn to this type of fantasy, so hence the rating, but if I was drawn to it, this would be a favorite. I am also not drawn to cliff-hangers. It is not a stand-alone story as there are still questions in my mind about how certain situations will, or can be, resolved.

I went into this story not knowing what to expect. I'm still not exactly sure how I would classify it. Christian paranormal romance? Paranormal romance with a slight Christian theme? Paranormal romance but slight on the paranormal? The exact genre is a little hard to identify, but it was a very entertaining story. The author easily swings the story between nowhere Kansas and New York City, painting vivid settings that are easy to imagine. The main character is kind and resilient. I loved her grandparents. Liam is mysterious but sweet and protective. The characterization of Jeremy was spooky, and I thought it was very realistic how a girl could get caught up with a guy like that. I enjoyed the book very much and will definitely look forward to seeing how everything plays out in Book 2.
I would recommend this book to anyone who enjoys romance, women's fiction, paranormal romance, Christian romance, Christian paranormal romance, Christian fantasy, or any sub-genres in-between. There is a slight Christian theme that should appeal to the religious, but it's not heavy-handed at all, so the reader who isn't religious should still enjoy the book.
The narrator has a calm, soothing voice and did an excellent job.
I received a free audiobook review code for this audiobook, and this is my honest opinion.
When I heard Unbroken Spirit was a paranormal story, I didn’t know quite what to expect and I wasn’t sure if I would like it. The “paranormal” aspect of the story is a character that isn’t quite human who interacts with the main character. Readers will enjoy getting to know Liam and Nina as they wait to discover Liam’s intended role in her life. More important than one single event, though, are Nina’s experiences in faith, trust (in people and in God) and finding comfort in having a friend alongside through the troubles of life. The story is mostly resolved – for now. I’m looking forward to reading where the author will take it from here.
Unbroken Spirit is a very well written and has well developed, relatable characters. As someone who has been in an abusive relationship, I can attest to the reality of the nightmares, flashbacks, and fear present in someone's life after escaping from that relationship. I also know the low or no self esteem, self doubt, and feeling of inferiority present. I really admired Nina's ability to work through her negative mindset.
I highly recommend this book. It helps the readers understand what goes through a woman's mind when she is in an abusive relationship. That's really important because many people ask the question, "Why doesn't she just leave?" They don't understand that trying to leave can be one of the most dangerous things an abused woman can do. I also appreciated the honesty in which Nina's insomnia, fear of attracting attention, and desire to remain hidden were handled.
With that being said, there were a few things in the book that seemed strange to me. The first, which happened over and over was that Nina's grandfather kept tugging on her earlobe when he was talking to her. I understand that was meant as a sign of affection, but it just wasn't something I could picture in my head because it sounded awkward. The second thing that bothered me was Nina's relationship with the horses. I could understand that she had a favorite horse and spent a lot of time with him, but because the other horse was more spirited or skittish, she didn't spend time with it. It seemed to me that she would make extra time with the more spirited horse to build trust, especially after Liam told her that the horse wasn't stand offish, she was jealous. Maybe I'm basing my opinion on what I would do in that situation.
This book is a good, honest book that really caught my attention and was really hard to put down. I encourage readers to give it a chance.
Okay... this book gave me tingles! Lots of tingles! This was the first book I've read by this author, but I doubt it will be my last. Kelsey Norman did a fantastic job with character development. Even the minor characters were pulled into my heart. I wanted to give Grams and Papa a great big hug!
From the first page, I was hooked! Nina's nightmare, remembering the abuse she endured at the hands of her former boyfriend who slit her throat, was a nightly occurrence. After what she had endured, she found safety and comfort in the home of her grandparents, but the nightmares persisted until she met Liam, a man who mysteriously appeared and eventually allowed Nina to trust again. Liam was to be Nina's protector, but he didn't know what he was to protect her from... until one frightful night. I'm not going to give away spoilers here. Not knowing what was to happen or when added to the excitement and anticipation as I read.
This is a Christian book.... but not in the sense that a lot of Christian books are written. Instead, the story grasped the concept of returning to God and finding peace within. This was more of a Paranormal/Fantasy book with a touch of faith instilled in it.... and I loved it!
I need to comment on a couple of other things. First of all, I love the cover. I had to go back to see who did the cover art because I thought it was phenomenal. Lynnette Bonner did a beautiful job with that. Also, the editing was good. Everything about this book fell right into place. The story flowed, left me intrigued, warmed my heart, made me shed a few tears, made me smile, and gave me tingles! I will be looking for the next book in this series and any future books by this author.

I loved Unbroken Spirit. Nina survived her past, but can she survive her future even with her protector Liam by her side? Liam is sent to keep her safe, but he doesn’t know from what or when.
Nina left behind a domestic abuser in New York, but the nightmares have followed her to her grandparents’ farm where she’s staying. Until Liam shows up. What power does he have to keep her nightmares away? Where is God in her life? Why didn’t He keep her safe?
From the moment Liam shows up I couldn’t put the book down. Who is he? He says he’s there to protect her. But from what? Can she trust him?
Nina had to fight once for her life. Will she have to again? Can she rediscover God’s love for her? If you love inspirational romance, you’ll love Unbroken Spirit-an inspirational paranormal romance. Can’t wait to read the next book in this series.
I received a free copy in the hope that I would mention/review it on my blog. I was not required to give a positive review, only my honest opinion - which I've done. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own and I only recommend products or services I use personally and believe will be good for my readers.
1. It is refreshing to read a story about struggling with your religious beliefs without the storyline mentioning it. As I was reading it, it slowly became clear to me the struggle was between good and evil in a different way of telling it.
2. The main character, Nina, does not dismiss Liam at the first encounter, she listens to what he is saying and keeps a open mind and discovers within herself the capacity to love again after all the hurt and pain she has endured with her now ex-boyfriend, who is prison for his crimes against her.
Liam and Nina belong to together, and they are both aware of the risks for each of them if Liam decides to become mortal. They both face challenges in different ways, but they are there for each other not matter what.
I recommend this book to people who want a "little" something added to the storyline, readers will not be bored. They will be impatient for the next installment.
I can't recommend this enough. Beautiful story of love, redemption, and healing with a little suspense and paranormal elements thrown in there. I'm excited to read the sequel, Love's Sacrifice.
The cover is beautiful! It's the story of a girl who has gotten out of a bad relationship, but her ex catches up to her and really wants to hurt her. The writing was well done, and the narrator's voice was well matched with the main character. Will her martyr be able to save her from her murderous ex? Of course, but the twists and turns are well placed.
I made a terrible decision about a man, who at first seemed to love me. To come know that he was controlling, I was his never to be with anyone but him and I now I can’t seem to get away from the nightmares. I am sure Grams and Papa would surely help me but I don’t want to talk about it.
So good. This author is so thorough with each persons character. There is happily ever for many. There is evil and eternity for them to pay vi like the side of good, protecting, and love this story depicts. It’s a great metaphor
I hate this took so long to come back to because it was an excellent read. The pacing was perfection and the storyline was intriguing! I really liked the characters and their relationship. Well-written and entertaining.
Unbroken Spirit #1 Mystical Hope Series by Kelsey Norman
Unbroken Spirit is a story of healing after abuse. Nina Anderson has suffered abuse for years from her ex-boyfriend, who is now in jail hundreds of miles away. She is safe now—although haunted by memories—on her grandparents farm in Despair, Kansas where she is showered with love and reminded of God's love for her. Can she learn to open her heart to God again allowing Him to heal her? As she struggles with her faith and putting her life back together she meets a mysterious man—an other-worldly man—who she finds herself drawn to. Apparently Liam has been sent to protect and help her, but he is only here for a short time. Liam is able to help her in some areas but Nina holds some things very close as they are too painful. I found it hard to read those parts of her dreams or when she does finally open up reliving the abuse to Liam regarding the abuse—it was more detail than I want to read about. I don't normally read paranormal books or stories about abuse but for the most part this story is well written. My favorite characters are the grandparents. I love their strong faith and their unconditional love for Nina.
~I received an e-book from the author, (no monetary gain were exchanged), this is my honest review~
I am usually hesitant to read paranormal stories. I’m very glad that I chose to read this one though. The non-human character, Liam, is very gentle and caring and only around to help Nina through a terrible ordeal. I thoroughly enjoyed the description of him and how Nina was drawn to him because of his appearance. The way the mystery about his background and where he came from was excellent.
I found Nina to be very well-developed. I found that I was extremely invested in her and wanted to see her healed from all of the emotional wounds caused by the abuse she had suffered in the past. Some of the sections where she was reliving the abuse either in dreams or in sharing it with Liam were very hard for me to read. That was only because of the great amount of detail that the author provided. They were very eye opening for me.
I received a free eBook copy of this novel from the publisher. I chose to write this review to express my personal opinion.

Nina is living with her Grandparents after surviving horrific abuse from her ex-boyfriend. Flashbacks and nightmares plague her until a supernatural stranger shows up who is assigned to help her through a difficult time to come in her future. I haven't had any experience with abuse that Nina had to deal with, but it seems to be realistic in the way that she deals with it. I kept waiting for the "other shoe to drop" wondering what big event Liam was there to help Nina with.
"Unbroken Spirit" is the first book in the "Mystic Hope" series and is listed as "an inspirational paranormal/fantasy romance" genre. I have not read any books in this genre before, so it was completely new for me. I liked how, with the support of Grams, Papa, and Liam, Nina learned her spirit wasn't broken and that she had strength and worth. I really liked Liam's gently ways and how he looked at everything with wide eyed wonder.
I got a free copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own and voluntarily given. No compensation was received.
I just re-read this book and it is still so good! Wow! Now I'm going to read the next book. I can't wait to s what will happen!
This story was so full of intriguing events and happenings. I was truly mystified! I started this book and finished it in one day! It held my attention and I couldn't put it down! Kelsey Norman is a wonderful author who has brought a view to light. The view of a world beyond our understanding. Is it really possible for there to be others out there who are like angles or guardians, walking around in our world? Wow! This was a fascinating book to read and now I want to read the next one in the series. What will happen to Nina and Liam? Pick this book up if you love fantasy, adventure, suspense, and love that cherishes and protects at all cost! I was given this book by the publisher and in no way did it influences my review, all opinions are my own.
The Bible tells us to be careful because we may be entertaining angels unaware. I would love to see this book as a movie. Imagine being abused, then being free yet haunted by your abuser that's locked up. Nina can exhale now, I mean what else can happen? Her tormentor jeremy is locked up. Imagine a knight in shining armour coming to cover and bring protection...but there's something about him that's just otherworldly...fast paced, believeable, heart racing GOOD!
Generally, I’m not one to read romance books but I’m glad I made an exception in this case. This is definitely a romance story but it’s oh so much more. It has mystery, suspense, a touch of paranormal and even a tiny bit of gun play. In short it has everything I usually like in a story except explosions. But that’s not what caught my eye as much as the characters. The author crafted interesting, realistic and touching characters that stay with you long after the book is finished.
A story that draws you in from the first chapter. I was connected and invested in the characters, at times to the point my heart was consumed by their story, wanting to know more, but knowing each page brought me closer to the end. The story also created several thoughtful discussions about God and His presence in the story. I can't wait to read more from this talented author!
I love the author's ability to convey the feelings of her leading characters. She brings you inside their heads and shows you the hope, fear, anxiety, and insecurity in a very relatable way. Fabulous story with twists and turns - can't wait for book 2.
I was so in need of this book, exactly at this time!! The characters were perfect . The story line is line helps us find we are not weak when in hard times, we become stronger.. Please read and enjoy!!!!
