Babyvamp

Rate this book
Forty-four-year-old vampire Max lives a mostly solitary existence in an attempt to avoid “vampire drama,” but when he spots abandoned babyvamp Kieran on his way home one night, his pesky conscience demands he rescue him and confront the vampire who turned him.

Problem is, Kieran’s creator is Max’s ex-lover James, an emotionally abusive, older vampire whose very presence throws Max into a heart-beating panic. James isn’t happy that Kieran tattled on him, and he’ll do whatever it takes to keep Max from divulging his offence to the vampire police, including risking Kieran’s life to make Max his rightful guardian.

But Max never wanted to be anyone’s guardian. And if Kieran gets his way, he’ll have more than Max’s care and attention. He’ll have his sexual submission, too.

The humans who liked vampires almost always longed to be submissive toys, which meant they expected me to be some Alpha type.

Short and surprisingly sweet. Although I've read tons of vampire stories, many of them with vamps that cry bloody tears, I don't think I've ever come across one where ALL the bodily fluids are replaced with blood. And when I say all I mean ALL. Yeah. That. It was a little disconcerting. However, I enjoyed the characters, and the fact that they sort of switched roles for different aspects of their lives was interesting. I'd read more from the author.

Great vampire story with interesting worldbuilding.
Some of the elements could have done with a bit more development, but nothing too catastrophic, so all's good.

Definitely will read more from this author!

I found Babyvamp while procrastinating from my own writing. I wasn't supposed to get so caught up in reading it—I only meant to peek a little, and then before I knew it I had devoured the entire thing. I lost sleep over it. I didn't care—I was too captivated by the story. Lyssa Dering writes dark and erotic romance—in Babyvamp she has done both. It's also—dare I say it—downright adorable. Truly. I think that was what had me so hooked, honestly: the story spans from deliciously hot to the most caring thing, and I just couldn't resist it. If you're looking for a shortish read with vampires and a ton of chemistry, Babyvamp may be just your thing.

A sexy and entertaining short featuring complex characters with emotional baggage. Max has to fight his desire for newbie vamp Kieran ... but young Kieran is having none of it. Loved the character chemistry--and the miscommunications, because what's a love story without miscommunication? I have a pretty big crush on Kieran honestly, and I could go for a sequel. Sequel? Please?

Interesting premise upsetting the traditional vampire dynamics, unfortunately, it felt rushed and confused in places.

Really enjoyed this emotionally driven and sexually charged vampire story. Max's introspection and struggles with the conundrum of his present, his past, and being placed into a role of responsibility that he didn't feel ready for are wonderful. Loved the world building and take on vampires and their society. The side characters were well drawn. The juxtaposition of ages and demeanors was great, too.

I appreciated that the antagonist

What's happening to me? I don't normally do vampire stories but this is the second that I've read and enjoyed this month.
Thought the world building was excellent with the vampire police and registration, etc. The bloodily fluids freaked me out a bit, especially the spunk and precum. And I hate the use of the word child in this context, it's just creepy. But the story was entertaining and the characters were fun even though I wanted to shake bratty Kieran sometimes. I'd read more in this world, especially about the human, Taylor.

I loved this little vampire story about the vampire rescued after he was left to fend for himself. The relationship between Max and Keiran was sweet. I enjoyed this story quite a bit and hope to see more of these characters in the future.

Recieved from Instafreebie. Max is a damaged vampire stumbling across an abandoned newbie, that leads him to deal with his past. Really sweet with bitterness. Kieran can be annoying at some stages. Didn’t really get a grip on James’ intentions. Contains bdsm with a dom bottom. Cute little story.

Rich, interesting world and characters, subtle and nuanced, kept drawing me in - how will they let down their guard safely with such dangerous emotions and in such a dangerous world? Relieved and satisfied at how they worked things out.

I like the world building, thought the concept of vampire police was cool. Can't wait to see what other stuff this author has.

When Max finds a newly born vampire fending on his own, his nurturing nature makes intervene and take the babyvamp under his wing. But soon he finds out that Kieran's creator is no other than James, Max' own psychotic creator, and that means trouble….
This is a really entertaining little story, which tells us about Max, a 44 years old vampire and how he meets by chance with newly created Kieran, who's been abandoned to fend on his own. Max cannot help taking the young vamp home, but soon the baby vampire becomes too much of a hassle. After all, Max is only a teenager in vamp terms, and he is not ready to raise a youngster on his own. Specially one who proves to be moody and full of drama. But when Max finds out who is Kieran's creator he realises it is going to be difficult to convince him to accept and raise Kieran. James is cruel and selfish, and it is responsible for all the issues Max developed after living with him. So when James purposely endangers Kieran's life, Max steps in and takes over. Being responsible of Kieran was not his purpose, but it is better than leaving him James or letting him die. If only Kieran would grow up already, and get a grip on his flighty personality…
As I said, it is a short story, but a really entertaining one. Both Max and Kieran are likeable, Max is sensitive and troubled, Kieran is coy and temperamental, but they are both as endearing as their relationship soon becomes. I did not expect too much from this story, but I find myself pleasantly surprised and with a goofy smile in my face. I am a happy reader now!

this was really cute. I loved the vampire world. No like we have to hide ourselves. Vampires have this bureaucracy and turning certificates. It's a nice difference to what I usually see out there. It was a short read, but still kept me up to 2am to finish.

Max is a sweet by-the-book loner and when he runs into Kieran he tires to do the right thing raising him. There's a sweet romance that ends up between the two and with a lot of fun vampire elements mixed into it. I really enjoyed their relationship.

I wish it was longer some parts I find myself a ready to see the talk but it goes over to the next chapter. Sooo it left me wanting more. Hope there's a sequel because I want to know more about this world and see more of Max and Kieran

Writing was good, I liked the vampire worldbuilding and would have liked to learn more. The issue I had was with characterization. Max was wishy-washy, the evil ex was hard to get a read on, and babyvamp Kieran turned out to be rather out of the blue near the end of the book. It did keep me hooked as far as it went, but instead of feeling that I knew the characters better as the book progressed, I just felt kind of bewildered.

Will look for more M/M from this author as she clearly can write, and I’d like to see how she presents a different set of characters.

Interesting and fun

This was an interesting role reversal story where the older, more powerful vampire is submissive to the dominant personality of a vampire who is newly turned. I would love to read more about this world, and especially to see what happens with Max and Kieran and Taylor. Will James ever get censured? Was Taylor really the price that Logan set for allowing Max and Kieran into his den?

***2016 has been a very unstable year. Not only have I lost favourite role models in droves, I have been into dark places more times than I could count. Yes, I experienced highlights as well but the darkness has had a big impact this year and the only way to keep it at bay was reading, mass reading, back to back books with no stopping and no reviewing. I do apologize to all the writers that I won’t be able to review their books yet but I will get to it. Promise!***

I liked Babyvamp a lot, but it ended abruptly and left some issues unresolved. It reminded me of Belly Up, only with vampires instead of shifters.

This author does vampires really well. Good supernatural-creature worldbuilding.

This was a pretty cute short novel. Max was adorably incompetent until he got things figured out. Kieran, on the other hand, was just like you'd expect a babyvamp to be - annoying, childish, whiny - but he does get better at the end. Humorous at times and enjoyable.
