One of the best mangas I’ve read so far though I’m definitely biased because it is based on one of my favorite stories, Alice in Wonderland and most specifically, the Disney Tim Burton adaptation! This is dark, strange, and twisted. The art style captured the feelings of the scenes perfectly!

There are so many memorable moments in this adaptation:

*The wrong Alice!
*Where are my fat boys?
*Warm pig for my feet!
*They have my wife and pups.
*My jabber baby wocky!

I love, love, love this! Definitely going to move on to the second part soon!

“It’s only a dream, Alice. Nothing can harm you there. But if you get too frightened, you can always wake up.”

It’s bonkers. It’s chaotic. It’s page after page of nonsensical whimsy.

This is a mostly scene for scene replication of the 2010 Alice in Wonderland movie in manga format. Although here the protagonist seems much younger than in the movie because the art style makes her look about 14, yet her character progression makes her even bolder than the big screen adaptation.

Everything in this manga is a bit more “much”, so to speak, (that is to say more intense) than it’s movie counterpart. The manga art was fantastic and very expressive. But the ending was quite abrupt. Kind of like the end of this review.

This manga is quite unexpected. I was looking for a quick read this morning and seing this manga version of Alice available on Kindle Unlimited I said why not. The Disney version turned into a manga, it got to be kinda fun and as I'm really into Alice I got thrilled !

Turns out, this version is probably one of, if not the, best spin off I've read so far. It is creepy, twisted, dark, bizarre, ... To sum up, everything I like 😄

Today's surprise !!!

Quite interesting, a whole different type of story. One is a bit darker than before, and less confusing I will say. I thought this would be a retelling of the original Disney version of the book Alice in Wonderland. How delightfully wrong I am.

I was never a fan of the original book. Also, I am not a fan of the Disney adaptation into the movie of the book for that matter. It just was too much nonsense even for me. That said this was a great turn of events. I do enjoy a good dark telling of the aftermath of the original story.

Overall, This was quite a bit better than imagined and I’m quite happy about it. I will say though that this version I’ve seen as another adaptation movie. Whether this or that came first I can not say, but I now have enjoyed both. I look forward to reading volume 2 soon.

If you read my reviews you will notice an odd difference with this one. It might seem as if I was speaking ever so posh or formal during this review. It is because I just finished this lovely manga and whenever I read something that has a classy or posh written style, I acquire that style of speaking myself, for a while…

My love for wonderland and anything slightly wonderland related is quite serious and contagious. So read this review at your own risk.

When I saw this lovely manga winking at me on the shelves of NetGalley I had to take a closer look.

My experience:

It is, as it is stated, based on the first half of Tim Burton’s movie of Alice and Wonderland.

It was a fun quick read since the illustrations are vibrant and familiar. It is based on the style of the movie but at the same time, it pays tribute to the older illustrations of the classic Alice and Wonderland novels. It was also filled with classic Manga expressions which made the characters much more comical and expressive than in the movie.

My favourite drawings were of Chessur Cat. Obviously.

The white rabbit with the waistcoat was drawn more cuddly and cute. I thought he was just lovely. I also loved this Manga’s version of Hatter. He had a more glum look that I thought suited him perfectly and almost an element of Dr. Seuss in his eyes. The white queen was beautiful and she was drawn very petite and pretty.

I am someone who is able to quote Alice and Wonderland so I could immediately spot when a new sentence was entered into the manga but it fitted nicely and I enjoyed the changes made.

What I liked:

There was this one scene where Hatter is just sitting on his head with his legs crossed. I loved it. How fun would it not be to just be able to randomly go and sit on your head and look at others as if they are the ones that are upside down.

I find the thought quite amusing.

What I did not like:

I did not like that it was only the first half. I thought it was one manga based on the whole movie.

Recommendations:

All Tim Burton fans and readers who want to move to wonderland this one is for you. An easy light read that gives you a new experience of Wonderland with all the glory of the film

Alice in Wonderland Vol 1 (manga)
By Jun Abe
⭐⭐⭐⭐
@thismonthsreadathon and book 8 of #booksforbumps

Alice goes back to Wonderland after 20 years with no recollection that she's ever been there. She assumes it's her recurring dream and just rolls with it. But she's told she's there to slay the Jabberwocky. Will she?

Ahh this just was a breeze to read, the banter and humour was hilarious. I may of laughed rather too loudly. This was very much the same story to our known Alice in Wonderland but some bits have changed. Firstly this isn't the first time she's been to Wonderland and secondly she has to kill this monster. So same and different at the same time.

I really enjoyed this manga, it was beautifully illustrated and the plot was fast and fun. It left on a cliffhanger which is very cleverly done as it makes you want to pick up the next one (which I will have to obviously do!)

Review for book 1 and 2:

So this one almost ruined my childhood🥹

First of all I was super excited when I stumble upon this Disney Manga on kindle unlimited! I genuinely thought that it’s like the anime version of the Disney’s Alice in Wonderland coz it obviously own by Japan’s Disney.

Little do I know that it wasn’t at all and I believe it’s more true to the Lewis Carrol original work. I’ve never read his book tho so I was surprised by how grim it is.

I mean this book portrayed Alice slapping animals, wicked/hideous characters, cute animals poking eyeballs and a river of decapitated heads?! My inner child was petrified 🥲

However, older me do enjoy this light read especially when I’m in the middle of writing my thesis. The story make me want to believe that the one Disney shown is like the prequel of the real deal that the Wonderland suddenly turns dark and eerie. Like adulthood, basically😃

So yeah, might try other disney mangas to see if the story line matchesss

This is not the original Alice in Wonderland written by Lewis Carroll. Its the graphic story from the Disney movie.

The manga is almost exactly the same as the movie except for the opening scene, where we can see small Alice having nightmares and playing with her father. In the movie we are only told about this.
All the other scenes are exactly the same as they are in the movie.

The drawings are spectacular. I loved Alice's eyes and I just find the White Rabbit to be absolutely adorable. Alicia and the Red Queen were gorgeously drawn. However the Mad Hatter was not really what I would like of him as he was drawn a bit darker.

If you loved the movie, you will love this manga.
Its a High Quality work of art.

-ARC kindly offered by NetGalley and the publisher in exchange for an honest review-

As you can see from the plot, it is not the original Alice of Caroll but of that more adult created in Disney films of Tim Burton. Those who loved the film can not help but feel drawn to this manga as it happened to me that after three weeks of resistance, I finally succumbed to the temptation.
It's remained faithful to the film, but I thought that the designs I would have liked more, but I found several flaws. Alice first, I did not like her eyes, but maybe because I'm used to appreciate those "sweet" in kawaii style. While the Hatter makes me really impression XD to stop bleeding eyes, I had to concern me Johnny Depp in his shoes. Not to mention the Red Queen, she is really scary. For the rest I'm not complaining and I admit I found adorable especially the White Rabbit. However, this is only the first part and then come to the last pages that you can still see the people of Wonderland under the tyranny of the Red Queen. It just has to get the second. Yes, okay, the story you already know but I can't finish reading a manga. It goes against my principles :P I avoid to continue only if the designs I do not like at all, but that's not the case.

I received this book for free from the publisher via Netgalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have been utterly obsessed with the story of Alice's Adventured in Wonderland since I was a young girl. I devour everything that I can find regarding this beloved story. I enjoyed this Manga adaptation of Tim Burton's Alice in Wonderland. The illustrations and story are almost exactly what is in the Disney live action adaptation of the story that was directed by Tim Burton. There are some tiny differences, but not many. The only character that did not feel right to me was the Mad Hatter. He has always been my favorite character in the story, but I did not care for him in this manga. In both appearance and in personality, I was disappointed. All in all this was a nice read. I liked the manga style illustrations (with the exception of the Mad Hatter, as mentioned above) and the story was no different from the movie. Not bad, but not excellent. If you are an Alice in Wonderland fan or a Tim Burton fan, I would definitely read this.

Dommage.

Alice in Wonderland
Jun Abe
Comic
Juvenile

Review: This is a comic rendition of the Johnny Depp Version of Alice in Wonderland. Of course it is only half of the story since it is so long. To read the whole story, you will need to also read the rest of the comic book series.
I really enjoyed reading this half of the story. I have always loved the Alice in Wonderland story, so it was nice to see it in a comic book form. I enjoyed the black and white drawings in this book. They are very well drawn and really let you understand what is going on.
I recommend this to readers who are starting to read more than short sentences. Also, if you have a reluctant reader who enjoys Disney movies then this may be a way to get them to read.

I received a free ecopy of this book from Netgalley for my honest opinion.

Book – Alice in Wonderland – Manga Edition
Author – Jun Abe
Star rating - ★★★★★

Cover – Gorgeous!
Would I read it again – Yes

** COPY RECEIVED THROUGH NETGALLEY **

Wow. This is not only incredibly beautiful, with the illustrations in such detail, but the intro of how Alive entered Wonderland was unique and brilliant. In the day and age of the story, it's well possible that such things were expected of her – marry a man with a title and money, keep quiet unless it's appropriate, only do, say and dress as she's told to. I really loved her father and his flighty imagination, the way he was vindicated, but only after he wasn't there to see it.

I thought the mention by the Dodo and White Rabbit that she'd been to Wonderland before was genius!

There were one or two moments of confusion, when Stayne's PVO took over, but otherwise it was a great read and I look forward to Volume 2.

Received via Netgalley in exchange for a fair review.

I would've liked this so much more if it weren't based on the films, but on the original story. Though this was extremely enjoyable once I got into it.

The artwork is beyond insanely amazing. The Cheshire Cat is absolutely gorgeous. The Dormouse with his little samurai sword needle, I want a print of the panel where he says, "I can stick you if that would help." Because OMG.

I don't see myself running to get all the volumes (Manga and I do battle, because IT'S BACKWARDS), but I'm not averse to owning it. Beautiful.

A quick and easy read that has some pretty good artwork. I love how this manga version begins, with small but creative and plausible changes to the original story. It follows more closely to Tim Burton's adaptation, so some of the illustrations look very much like that version (surreal and dark). This book is only part #1 so it does end in the middle of the story. I look forward to the next installment. A good choice for readers who enjoy classic stories retold as manga adaptations, Alice in Wonderland followers, and fans of Tim Burton.

I received this book from NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

I have always wanted to read a Manga so I was excited when I saw this as a book on NetGalley. The book does read backwards so it was a little weird to make my brain work in the proper way.

The illustrations were wonderful & the book itself was good. I was hoping for a little more than just the Tim Burton movie but it followed the plot lines & everything was identical to the movie.

Ultimately, the illustrations are what made it for me. I really enjoyed how detailed it was.

Let's start with I love Alice in Wonderland. It's one of my favorite stories. I loved the Tim Burton remake as well. I, also, love Manga so this book was perfect. It's a retelling of the movie.
The style is exactly what you would expect from Tokyopop. To be honest, there's not much to talk about with this book. If you liked the Alice in Wonderland movie and you at least understand Manga, this is a fun book. The best part is that Manga feels disjointed for American readers which just added to the dizzy fun of Alice's adventure.
