Lovestruck Librarians #2

Il ragazzo del libro accanto

Rate this book

Come andrà a finire?

Olivia Dade grew up an undeniable nerd, prone to ignoring the world around her as she read any book she could find. Her favorites, though, were always, always romances. As an adult, she earned an M.A. in American history and worked in a variety of jobs that required the donning of actual pants: Colonial Williamsburg interpreter, high school teacher, academic tutor, and (of course) librarian. Now, however, she has finally achieved her lifelong goal of wearing pajamas all day as a hermit-like writer and enthusiastic hag. She currently lives outside Stockholm with her delightful family and their ever-burgeoning collection of books.

Soooooo much sex! Also it was pretty insta-love-y, which is a problem when the characters are risking their jobs to be together. I need to buy it! Also the hero came back to his hometown because

Anyway, this does mostly get libraries right, but:

1. At least twice, Angie is described as turning the libraries on in the morning. Noooooo, leave them on for updates!

2. Is Nice County not a union workplace? Now, branch managers aren't repped at my library, but I'm the union secretary and a shop steward and we are here for you! If you ARE repped and are invited to a disciplinary meeting, TELL YOUR UNION. We will come to the meeting, take notes, and help you!

Oh, and you probably SHOULD get fired

So, I’m on my third Olivia Dade in a row. This series has inadvertently turned into an impromptu binge read but I can’t help it - I love these women.

Angie self-sabotages, her impulsiveness and her random acts of smut really make no sense...until you get farther into the story. Then the woman who drove me slightly crazy suddenly makes a helluva lot of sense. Grant is a delightful blend of nerdy and hot. He believes in making weighted decision charts. He is known as safe and logical, and certainly not the man to go a bit caveman. He is sweet, a bit shy and yet he certainly has some lovely grr moments. He’s caring and protective...just the kind of hero I love.

While I love the romance, it does happen at warp speed, which gives a bit of instalove feel to the proceedings. This is a small concern in the long run, because while the romance starts immediately, time is spent developing that connection and I was able to invest in their HEA.
The shiniest of moments though are the female friendships. There aren’t enough series where the female friendships are the focal point AND where it’s about the greatness of them, instead of bonding through hating other female characters. For that, Ms. Dade has captured my attention and my admiration.

The writing has continued to impress, the characters are fun, the chemistry is hot, the setting is fresh and the banter is on point. If you’re into contemporary romances, I’d recommend this book and the whole series, for that matter.

Awww. The amusing adventures of a smut-loving librarian. Allows Excellent ending. In her more recent novels Dade has stretched out her timelines which gives more room to develop the characters, motivations, contradictions as well as the plot. There's just as much charm and humor, but the tifhr schedule lends it a madcap quality.

ARC received from Kensington Books via NetGalley for review

Another fun read. Angie is my kinda people :) She goes with her gut, loves to have fun and doesn't mind being a little reckless here and there :)
Grant is the complete opposite. AND I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF THEIR STORY lol They get each other. They connected from the beginning. And it was FUN to read. I love it when that happens. It makes an evening of reading SO much more enjoyable!
This is a HIGHLY recommend by yours truly :)

This is the second book in the Lovestruck Librarian series, each standalone with a complete story arc and a happy ending for the couple. Angie was introduced as a secondary character in Broken Resolutions as Penny’s boss. As the heroine of this story, she’s a fun, exciting and rather daring woman who loves her job as a library manager. She’s the source of the, well, rather X-rated materials at the library, with her love of erotica sometimes overtaking her common sense. In fact, it’s gotten her into more trouble lately, with the result that she’s under probation, and under the eyes of the newly hired director of branch services, Grant. Only problem? They had a one night stand as luststruck strangers that was meaningful for them both, the night before they found out that they were to have a working relationship. Now they are boss and employee and should be strictly hands off. But with Valentine’s day approaching, cupid has his sights set on them and working together could be the start of something wonderful or ruin for them both.

I really enjoyed this story! I knew from the first story in the series that I liked this writer’s style, combining laugh out loud moments with sexy scenes and sweet and likable characters. That was definitely true for this one as Angie is a firecracker. She makes up for her lack of a real life relationship by being daring in her work life, setting up exhibits and contests that bring a lot of attention to her library branch – the good kind from the patrons but the not so good kind from her bosses. She sometimes lacks the filter she needs to balance what’s fun with what’s smart, and her enthusiasm for erotica is not something everyone understands. In comes Grant, a solid, dependable, nice guy. I mean, he’s a librarian! He’s not an alpha male, he’s just a decent man, doing the best he can to help support his family and this job means a lot to him as it will keep him close to his aging parents. The fact that he had the best sex of his life with a sexy stranger who turns out to be his subordinate? Well, he’s just got to put it behind him. But he can’t, and his conflict is felt equally by Angie as they struggle with their feelings and intense sexual attraction to each other. There are an abundance of sexy scenes that prove that while Grant might seem somewhat reserved, he’s got the goods in the bedroom and they are definitely compatible. Angie’s got some secrets though, and not being completely honest with Grant from the start sets them up for trouble later on. Happily, everything gets resolved nicely and I loved the compromise that works to let Angie express herself at her job in a way that makes everyone happy. Plus, we get a sweet ending for the couple. There are some nice cameo scenes from couples met in the first book in the series, and I’m excited to see who will get a story next! 4 stars for this romantic comedy.

He wrapped his arms around her shoulders and collapsed on her.
“Glad you’re so tall,” he muttered. “Don’t have to worry about crushing you.”
“No, just killing me with orgasms.”
She could feel his smile against her neck. After a minute, he stroked her hair back from her face with gentle fingers. “Angie?”
“Angie can’t come to the phone right now. She’s too busy recovering from the two best orgasms of her life. Please leave a message and she’ll get back to you as soon as possible.”
He pressed a kiss on her shoulder. “When she gets a chance, can she call me back and tell me I didn’t hurt her? That she doesn’t regret this?”
She took a deep breath before answering him the best way she knew how. “Did you mean it earlier, when you said I was yours? Or was that just lust talking?”
He continued stroking her hair without a single moment’s hesitation. “God knows, I feel lust aplenty.” Grant said. “But I meant it.”
“Then let me tell you this,” Angie said. She sank her fingers into his curls and tugged his head up from her shoulder. “You didn’t hurt me. You gave me more pleasure than anyone’s ever given me in my life. You’re mine. Not just for tonight. No regrets.”

I think that my biggest issue with this book is the characters. While I find each of them interesting in an analytical/fluid sort of way, I just couldn't connect with either Angie OR Grant. I think that the author wanted the reader to see Grant as endearing with all of his idiosyncrasies and perfection issues but I didn't. I just found him irritating and completely inauthentic. The words I was reading about his character in particular didn't mesh with the vibes that he was putting off. I don't even know if that makes sense ... his character seemed like one dude but then he would turn out to be completely different. I don't know if this type of confusion was what the author was shooting for or if it was an unfortunate byproduct of a character that wasn't fully fleshed out but it kind of ruined the book for me because I couldn't picture this guy as a real, in the flesh dude. Angie, on the other hand, was interesting. I thought that her character was perfect and I really enjoyed how she would get into trouble, take the smack on the hand and then do it again. It was cute and while I enjoyed her, I just couldn't connect with her on any level.

I thought that the idea behind this book was so interesting. To be honest, I was completely sucked into the novel when it first started and I was itching to find out what was going to happen next. But that quickly wore off when the characters started in with their weird passive-aggressive-dom-prude thing going on. I just couldn't get immersed after about 20 percent into the book. Nothing had hooked me, even my enjoyment of Angie, and in the end, I just wanted it to be done. No, that's not true ... I wanted it to get better. Up until the last page of this one, I was hoping for more but it just never arrived. I even had to put this one down for a bit and then try again but it didn't work the second time either.

It all comes down to the characters. The story can be amazing but if the characters aren't up to par for me, it just kills the entire book. Sad way to see this one end, I really liked it in the beginning.

This was my first novel by Olivia Dade, and it was a quick and very entertaining reading experience. I loved that it was set in a library most of all.

Writing style: Alternating POVs
Cover design: I really like this cover. The cover models actually match the physical descriptions of the main characters. The books in the background and the eyeglasses and subtitle Lovestruck Librarians in the foreground all tie-in together really well. Overall, this cover just makes me smile and want to dive right in.

*
The Library Gang
Angie Burrowes –
the Battlefield Library Manager in the city of Nice; heroine
Grant Peterson –the new director of branch services; hero
Tina – district library head
Penny Callahan –the youth librarian and Angie’s bestie
Mary Higgs–works at the front desk; reports to Angie
Helen – reference desk librarian at the downtown Niceville library branch
Constance – manages the Bookmobile department

**

A favorite Angie quote:
‘Maybe what tempted her most was the aura of innocence surrounding him. With those dark curls, clear blue eyes, and pale skin, he looked like a grown-up choirboy. Like a man who’d chosen the right path–the reasonable, honorable one–his entire life.

She couldn’t help it. She wanted to debauch him.’

***

The reason why Grant ends up in Niceville was so touching. I wanted him to win at everything because of it. And I loved how he’d sort of blink at Angie’s impulsiveness and then take it in stride.

A favorite Grant quote:
“I’m used to risks. But you…”
“I know.” He smiled wryly. “I’m a cautious man. Usually. But you’re too important for me to lose. I don’t want to work my whole life in anticipation of joy that never comes. I want the job now. I want you.”

****

Olivia blends steam and humor in a manner that I quite like and look forward to enjoying again. I look forward to reading about Angie’s friends in the other standalone novels that make up the Lovestruck Librarians series.

Geez! I really wanted to love this book as much as Broken Resolutions-book one of the Lovestuck Librarian series by Olivia Dade. Unfortunately it fell a bit flat for me. Maybe it was too long?? I am not sure but it seemed to drag for me. I liked Angie-even from book one! She loves her erotica and wants to share that love with the world. Being the manager of the local library, maybe is not the best choice to highlight her addiction. I loved her devil may care attitude that even when she was called out on the carpet, she wouldn't hesitate to do it again!

Grant on the other hand, just seemed off to me and I had a hard time getting a handle on him. It's almost like he was two different people-kind of like flipping a switch. I get that he is nerdy at times, but then totally act like a player the next. I felt he had no flow between the sides of his personality.

Angie and Grant have a passionate night together after they are involved in an accident. Soon they discover he is actually Angie's new boss. They definitely are like oil and water in relation to running a library!

After the initial meeting, there was little that made me want to continue reading the story. Yes I wanted to find some things out, but the drive to get to the finish wasn't there. It started out very promising, but fizzled just as quick. I liked that Grant was a nice guy-wanting to live close to his aging parents, but there was no draw to him for me. The extra star in the rating is because of Angie. I loved her free-spirit and even when she was being scolded or tamped-down for her exuberance, she bounds right back! I also enjoyed the catch-up with characters from book one! I like Olivia Dade's writing style and hope she finds what she had in book one with her next books in the series.

3 stars/2.5 flames

This book was gifted to me for the express purpose of an honest review. The rating and review are solely my opinion and in no way was I compensated.

I read this very quickly, which means I enjoyed the writing. So why do I only give the three stars?

The book was recommended on a podcast by a male librarian. Being a librarian myself, that recommendation made me curious enough to go buy the ebook.

What I really enjoyed:

The main characters, their colleagues and their families were described so vividly that I really „got“ them from the start.
Angela‘s erotica displays and some of her other controversial ideas at the library were super funny.
There was also a lot of emphasis on why libraries are such wonderful places, which does warm my heart.
The hero is a sweet and kind person and he accepts or tries his best to accept Angela as the vibrant women she is.
The friends!
The difficult issues between the couple and between the main characters and their families were dealt with in a thoughtful and realistic way. Some of the conversations and internal dialogues felt important and inspiring to me.

What I did not like:
The sex at the workplace and the whole job situation - I understood the conflict, but just couldn’t get on board with it. Maybe it is a cultural thing that I did not entirely get.
In part it was such a fast read because I skipped all the sex scenes. I did not like them.
The lack of communication that lead to several of the conflicts was realistic, but I still hated it.
As others have already stated: sex in the story time room of a library is not sexy, but pretty disgusting. I work in a children’s section and I just .... gah.
Also I wanted some diversity in that book. Maybe I missed something?

Tre stelle e ½.
Piacevole l'ambientazione in biblioteca.

RECENSIONE IN ANTEPRIMA

Romance and Fantasy for Cosmopolitan Girls

4.5 stars

This book is exceptional! I enjoyed every moment. The only reason I rated it a 4.5 instead of 5 stars is because I reserve that ultra top rating for books that stay with me for weeks on end. You know the kind of story I'm talking about.

My Reckless Valentine is Angie and Grant's story. If you read the previous book in the series, you already know that Angie is a trip and a little erotica crazed. Here, we get to see her other sides too. She's sweet, loyal, a bit insecure, and like the rest of us, excited to find someone who seems to really get her. Grant is exactly what you want a smart hero to be: hot, caring, drawn to the heroine and a lover of spreadsheets.

If you like fun, smart contemporary romances with lots of spice, I highly recommend this one.

I received an ARC of this book, via Net Galley, in exchange for a fair and honest review.

I am torn.

On one hand it is a marked improvement from the first in the series. She has taken a minute to set up future installments and her use of vocabulary is lovely. It fits the books and doesn't feel like she flipped through a word-a-day calendar like so many sub par authors do.

On the other hand it is so damn predictable that I had a really hard time finishing it. (Five days to finish a romance novel when an evening is usually enough.) And her use of foreshadowing is blatantly obvious making an already frustrating read a bit obnoxious.

I really like the premise of the series but I sincerely doubt I will have any interest in revisiting it when the next book is released.

The book sounded fun from the blurb but as I read it I just could never get into the characters. Every thing seemed rushed but yet the story lagged. Overall a cute read but just didn't knock my socks off. Might just be a difference in the author's writting style & my reading style.

Very few things constitute a 'must read' for me. In order for a book to find itself on that list it has to include either Jeff Goldblum, Tom Hiddleston or books about librarians. This falls into the latter.

Angie Burrowes is the library manager in a self-described small town who is constantly coming to blows with administration. She's a standout librarian and hard worker, but her love of pushing the envelope gets her in hot water with her questionable romance and erotic fiction contests and displays. After a terrible day at work where she's told to revamp or she's fired, she ends up meeting Grant Peterson. They have a really odd meet cute that somehow works, and end up spending an insanely passionate night together complete with lots of sex and great dialogue.

Everything seems peachy keen until Angie arrives at a library manager meeting the next morning, only to discover that Grant is her new boss.

The first third of the book is what sells this whole story. Grant and Angie have great chemistry together and their meet cute is very fun. After that, the last two thirds of the book are a little basic and go exactly where you expect them to, but I enjoyed it nonetheless. The sex is pretty well written and I enjoyed that Angie smart and confident, tall and curvy. Grant is portrayed as tall and handsome, albeit a bit reserved and unsure of himself. I weirdly imagined him as a slightly buffer Tom Hiddleston. Maybe that's why I enjoyed this book.

It's a rom com. There's family drama, questions of if they can fall in love this fast, and Grant becoming an idiot and going alpha male for a hot second. The biggest problem I had with this book is I'm a librarian, and I don't know a small town library in America that would be allowed to have it's own Erotic Fiction Reading Room but whatever. Also there's a pretty hot sex scene that takes place IN THE WORKROOM of the library. Like, I get it. When my boyfriend comes to visit there's nothing I want to do but take a quick ride to the bone zone but not in the damn room where all my co-workers work. Also what small town library has a super popular branch (as Angie's is described as) that doesn't have any security cameras? Y'all are lucky you didn't get caught banging on candid camera but y'know. It's a romance novel. You forgive this stuff.

Overall this was fun, even setting aside a slightly slow third act. I probably liked it more because I'm a librarian and this is one of the few librarian romances I've read where the author actually accurately describes the job we do, but it's a sweet book. If you like sex and solid dialogue, check it out.

Received an ARC from NetGalley for an honest review.

Probably more like 3.5...but I rounded up because she's a librarian into the sexy books. Overall, this was a fun read, but I have to wonder if Grant and Angie aren't too different to make it work. Angie is coming from a life of feeling out of step with her by-the-numbers parents and Grant feels this pressure to support his parents for all they did for him as a child.

I struggled with the library's issue with Angie's running of things. Granted, she took things a little too far sometimes, especially considering that there are kids walking around, but as we kept hearing, her numbers were up and people liked her. It felt like the library was all about reprimanding instead of working together....

While their meet-cute was just that, I was a little surprised at the almost immediate sexual innuendos that went flying. Not for nothing Ang, but you just met this guy on the side of the road...that's not exactly prime hunting material in terms of safety...but I guess it all worked out.

Another enjoyable Lovestruck Librarians read.

Scrolling through my Kindle, I clicked on this title - not knowing what it was about. I am glad I did as I fell in love with this book straight away. This was one of those books that screamed "Paula" as the main characters work in a Library. I also loved the fact that Alexis was one of those fun librarians who always came up with fun quirky displays for her customers. If I owned a bookstore, I definitely would be like her. However, of course, not everyone appreciates her humor and fun-loving style, especially the library administration board - the upper stiffs. After a terrible day at work, Alexis ends up in a car crash with Grant - the two of them hit it off instantly and have a romantic fun-filled evening of witty banter and sex. The next day though, they are both in for a surprise as Grant has been hired for the library and one of his tasks is to keep Alexis in line - otherwise, both of them will be fired. Can the pair find a way to work together or will Alexis's upcoming Valentine's Day competition find them in boiling water and ruin their chances of their #meetsexycute and HEA? Find out in this quick sexy librarian erotica romance romp by Olivia Dade.

I wasn't expecting much when I went into this story, basically because of my reactions to the first book. Thankfully, this book was a lot longer than that first one, but it wasn't necessarily better.

I had a really hard time connecting with both of the main characters. Grant was too logical to be approachable and Angie was too flighty, in my opinion. However, I could see how they worked well as a couple. I just didn't like most of their relationship, especially the deception they employed to keep it, despite their professions of preferring honesty.

I liked how this continued on from the previous book, making it important to read that one first for full effect, even though this story focused on a different couple. All things considered, it's a good way to get into the mood for Valentine's Day.

Trigger or content warnings? Nope.

Details?
Angie is the FMC. Grant is the MMC. Neither of their ages are mentioned outright but I assumed the both of them to be early to mid thirties.
Condoms used. No other women or other men. A moment of jealousy for Grant, but it leads to him actually doing what he wants so I did not mind.

Bits-and-bobs?
Grant having a hard time to find his size in condoms made me look at cucumbers a different way. Damn Grant, packing a baseball bat.

My thoughts?
I really enjoyed this. I did not mind the fact that the start of their relationship was so stop-and-go because it made sense for them. Grant immediately not wanting to continue his relationship with Angie because she is his subordinate made *me* salivate. The bar is literally on the floor for Grant, I am a sucker for a nerdy MMC.

I'm really enjoying this series from Olivia Dade. She's a new to me author, but when I stumbled across this series, being a librarian myself, I just knew I had to read it. First off I just want to say that I want to be Angie when I grow up (except maybe dialed back a hundred lol). I loved her sense of humor and again, as a librarian, I loved her views on her job and her patrons. There are so many of her ideas that I wish I could do at my own library, but alas. I also really enjoyed Grants character. I liked his devotion to both Angie and his family. Overall it was a cute, fun, and entertaining read. Lots of humor and lots of sexy times (honestly I could have done with a little less but that's just me). I'm looking forward to continuing the series.

3.5 stars

There are a couple of complex things about disability and illness in this story and I am still working out how I feel about them.

I can say now that this is a funny, sexy fun romp of a story that stretches credulity and is tropetastic with a bit of instalove at the center of it, and I enjoyed it.

Review to come.

I'm such a huge fan of Olivia Dade, I was super delighted to see my library had acquired a couple more titles in the Lovestruck Librarians series.

I did enjoy this book, but it didn't quite match my expectations. No doubt my expectations were a little unrealistic because this was one of her first published books.

I normally hate boss-employee romances because of the power dynamic, but this one worked for me because they didn't know they were boss and employee when they first got together. I liked the two main characters, but I'm finding in these early books some of the plot devices are a bit... transparent? Overly orchestrated? I don't know. It was ok.
